Absolutely disgusting experience at this emergency department. I presented to the emergency desk late last night experiencing a severe anaphylactic reaction. My lips were swollen, my tongue was swollen and my throat was so tight it was difficult to swallow. I made the decision to drive myself there as I was closeby, and knew it would be faster than waiting on an ambulance. As I walked up, no one was present at the emergency check in desk so I had to ring a bell and wait for someone to come out. It was at that point I should have turned around and left. Anyway, I told staff about my condition immediately on arrival and staff seemed unsure of what to do and scrambled around the office talking to eachother. I was then told to sit down and fill out paperwork. I reiterated that I was having a severe reaction and needed immediate help but was instead told I need to sit down and fill out the new patient paperwork. I was then made to do a covid test, given the same medication I told staff I had already taken that didnโ€™t work, and someone took my temperature. I was then told to go sit in the empty waiting room. ALL WHILE EXPERIENCING A SEVERE ALLERGIC REACTION!!! After roughly 5 to 10 minutes, I was called back to the desk by an administrator who told me to sit down and provide the information I knew I had just completed on the form. During this conversation, the administrator proceeded to grill me about whether the highway was closed because that's how she needed to get home?? She then continued to ask me new patient information questions and I advised her that I already provided all of this information on a form and that I was finding it difficult to talk. She rudely stated that she wasn't given a form and I needed to continue. I pointed out that I definitely filled it out so it had to be there and she finally looked to the stack of papers sitting right in front of her at the desk and she realized she did have the form. She did not acknowledge her mistake and apologise, but instead proceeded to ignore me as she slowly typed the information into her computer. At this point, I'm really struggling to talk and starting to panic because I knew I needed adrenaline soon or my airway could close completely. I asked the administrator if it was normal procedure to leave someone waiting who was experiencing anaphylaxis and was abruptly told something along the lines of "You were triaged by someone with medical training, weren't you?" I advised I also have medical training (16 years in general practice to be exact) and have never EVER seen myself or colleagues treat a patient this way while experiencing anaphylaxis. The administrator casually walked over to the nurse and I could hear her audibly mocking me saying "Sheee has medical traininggg". A male staff member in the office then laughed at me and stated, "If you're talking, you're fine". I replied that the longer they leave me, the harder it is getting to talk AND BREATHE and that he should know that is not how anaphylaxis works. I was then abruptly told I would be seen when they were free. I was terrified, humiliated, and feeling less than human. I demanded they return my Medicare and Health Insurance cards to me so I could seek help elsewhere and as I was halfway out the door they advised me that they will see me now. At this point I was crying and having a panic attack and did not trust that they would help me so I felt I had no other option but to leave. From the parking lot, I called an ambulance and drove to meet them elsewhere. I was immediately administered two doses of adrenaline and was then taken to the public hospital where I was given an alternative oral antihistamine, and given an IV with fluids to give my body a boost. I cannot believe that these so called 'medical professionals' were so incompetent that they did not know the appropriate emergency triage protocol for anaphylaxis. If you or your loved ones like living, do not come here for treatment. They have nothing but uneducated, unempathetic, and ignorant staff. I will be escalating this matter further.

Have had brilliant experiences with this hospital in the past and the nursing staff in the emergency department have always been exceptional and in my opinion are worth 5 stars. However my recent trip to ED was a very unpleasant experience with Dr Barry Chan whom seemed less than interested in trying to diagnose the cause of my pain and more interested in discharging me. I ended up being discharged while still in considerable pain and needing to seek medical treatment elsewhere to get the current pain under control as well as the appropriate referrals to get to the bottom of what is causing the pain. Not a great experience but I think thatโ€™s entirely due to Dr Barry Chanโ€™s lack of interest or competence with complex cases.

One of the best private hospital we have been to In June my dad wasnโ€™t feeling well while holidaying in Melbourne, we came to the ED for an assessment by a doctor. No wait time, immediately admitted, bloods were taken I think it took around a hour or so but my dad was diagnosed with AML. The nurses and doctors were amazing compassionate and caring as we were numb and in shock. . Dr Paul Turner was my dads Haemtolgist & Prof Barnes both a god sent. Definitely contributed to bringing my dad in remission . I recall feeling like a resident as we were in hospital for a long period of time, in this time my dad entered ICU even had to have surgery, with all this happening my dad and I and all my family were more then happy with the treatment and the communication by the team in John Fawkner. I pray that no one has to go through this but I can honestly say that god forbid if you do need to go hospital than I recommend this is the one. Iโ€™d like to thank the team on Level 4 angels ! And the team in ICU I will never forget all of you.

Great service. Very efficient on Pathology testing. Only waited for three people before me. Pathologist was super friendly and patient. Bus stops right out side which is very convenient. Can be difficult to get a parking spot. Best to park in side streets opposite if driving. Make sure you observe council parking signs. Disability access ramp and lift to second floor. Bulk billing. Beautiful view from the small waiting room of the city skyline. Older style building #LetsGuide

Zero stars if there was an option. The lady was extremely rude in the MRI section on the phone and dismissive of me when i advised that i had tingling and numbness and pain on all my right side and said go somewhere else or go emergency we can give you a date 3 weeks from today. When questioned does she not think this is urgent and please book me in as advised and sent by my GP she said go somewhere else. She had no compassion and no urgency or to help just wanted to get me off the phone. T Should not have such a unemotional and uncaring rude person at reception but a person who will listen before dismissing you and insist on what she has told you is your only option. This person does not deserve to be in such a position if you wish to get your star rating up change her asap!!!!

I attended the ED with my wife who had suffered a bad chainsaw cut to her hand, after first seeking help in a public hospital where the ED and its triage seemed to be in a dysfunctional state. Access, reception and triage were excellent both from a time and competence standpoint and the ensuing evaluation and 3 hr operation were, in my opinion, of the highest standard. This is definitely a well-run hospital staffed by the very best.

This place deserve less than 0 stars. The costumer service in this place is terrible. The attendants in the ED have no respect at all . There is no compassion and if you die might be a favor to them. To the ED attendants working Friday 10th June please do not treat a person as a garbage bag. One of your duties should be provide an equal customer service even for immigrants full of doubts while they are in a pain . Close the doors or change your ED attendants .

I presented to ED in July last year. All I can say is if youโ€™re headed to ED, go somewhere else. I was not given any information that the scans and blood tests I had would be an out of pocket cost. Months later, I received countless bills in the mail worth hundreds of dollars and then regularly harassed by debt collectors while getting this sorted. Thankfully, I sorted it after speaking to the head of ED, imed accounts and clinical labs department back and forth regularly. This was a huge source of stress to deal with while unwell, bedridden for months on end and unable to work with no income (a year later I am still unwell might I add). or so I thought. A year has gone by and the messages from debt collectors have started up again - apparently I owe the pathology money, although my payment was sorted ages ago? Way to take advantage of the vulnerable. I have a DSP card, private health and have never been in this situation before with any ED, health service or hospital (both public and private) so I am confused as to why the process differs at this hospital. Donโ€™t even get me started on rude behaviour by the doctor either.

Not all hospitals are the same. But if you want a hospital that provides the best results for your particular medical problem, has an excellent patient safety record, up-to-date facilities and technology, and whose staff shows respect to patients and families - then I highly recommend the John Fawkner private hospital. Ask your doctor or surgeon who is responsible for your hospital treatment about being a patient at the John Fawkner private hospital.

Wouldn't send my dog there. Worst Private hospital in Melbourne. If you like 1950's style rooms and medical care this is the place for you. Almost reminiscent of a trip to a Balinese hospital in the 80's. Only thing missing were the cats and dogs

Visited John Faulkner Emergency Department on 20/08/23 with persistent tonsillitis symptoms. Despite being promptly seen and placed in a bed bay from 3pm to 8pm, the examination by Dr. Martin Bicket lasted only 5 minutes. After waiting for blood test results, I was diagnosed with a viral illness and discharged with no medication given. I endured 2 more days of agony until my GP diagnosed strep throat bacterial tonsillitis with pus and prescribed antibiotics. Dr. Bicket's misdiagnosis prolonged my suffering. Disappointed with the negligent care received

Well.....I had a large lipoma removed from my back, on July 3rd at their Day Hospital. It was the size of a tennis ball, next to my spine. Thankfully it has been removed: a little itchy, with the dressing and plastic cover...but expected ...no more burning, stretching feeling there. The doctor Mr Cheah, and the other staff, including the nurses were all professional and considerate towards me, with the exception of one particular nurse in charge of the recovery room. The latter unfortunately put a black mark what otherwise would have been a pleasant stay. The waiting time was a lot longer too: I was given 2 different times to arrive at the hospital: 7.30AM by the doctor and 8.30AM by the hospital. I arrived at the earlier time, just to be sure. I was told it usually takes about 1 1/2 hours before the actual operation; but the schedule could understandably change...which it did: it took to 12.00PM..Fasting since the night before and with no drinking since 7.00AM, I was hungry and thirsty. In the recovery room, I was asked what I wanted for lunch...they had toasted sandwiches available so I asked for one: ham, cheese and tomato was the standard staple. And a cup of tea. When the nurse serving asked if I wanted anything more, I replied to the affirmative...and since I was hungry, with no breakfast, I politely asked for another sandwich...which was given to me. The nurse in change at the desk then came over and growled at me for daring to eat another sandwich!...She then took my blood pressure, pushing my arm over the sandwich, so I couldn't eat it..and said that I shouldn't eat 2 sandwiches because I would make me sick. Her manner was rude and arrogant... It cap it all off, my cousin Marion who is handicapped insisted that she pick me up from the hospital and drive me home after. She is a proficient driver but finds it difficult to walk far. We are close and frequently visit each other and help each other. I tried to tell the nurse in charge, who refused to listen to me, that I wanted to save my handicapped cousin the considerable walk around to the recovery room to get me; as she is on a walker. The nurse refused and replied that every carer is required to walk into the recovery room and collect the patient. She let out a shocked " Oh!...she's handicapped!", when my cousin entered, wobbling on her walker...Marion must have heard the comment, but she was just glad to see me. All I can say is that I would have given the hospital more stars if I hadn't experienced that nurse in change at the desk. Maybe it was a bad day for her.... Patient Barbara 70 years old

Mum went in very unwell. They misdiagnosed her and discharged her with still a fever, diarrhoea, nausea. During her stay they were feeding her foods she not have been eating and making her situation worse. Two days later she was in another hospital where they found her life threatening illness and is being treated currently. Pathetic effort by John Fawkner Hospital where the doctor just categorised her as another common virus and kicked her out.

Feels "B grade" compared to hospitals like Cabrini and Epworth. The main entrance, which is pokey and underwhelming sets the scene well. Overall, the hospital lacks the finesse and pleasantess of the nicer hospitals. Some of the staff were great but overall I would avoid this hospital in future.

Great hospital and team of Nurses and Doctors. Was admitted early Oct 22 and from the time of entry into ED to my Private room, I was always greeted with a smile, answered any concerns I had and made you feel comfortable away from family. Very caring & knowledgeable team. Clearly shows they love their work. Special thanks to, Wen, Sean, Claire, Glenn & all the rest of the team that I've forgotten their names. Even the hospitality ladies. Thank you. Btw. Hospital food here is very satisfying and delicious, even though mine was a Diabetic menu. Good variety to choose from and portion size is generous.

This hospital literally traumatised me. Incompetent rude Doctors, shortage of nurses, outdated rooms, outdated facilities, food was disgusting. On two occasions I was left & forgotten about in the hallway lying on my bed after an xray. Fortunately a cleaner realised that I had been there for an an hour & was kind enough to return me back to my room. Asked for a transfer to another private hospital & basically my request was ignored. Not sure how this hospital can be classified as private as I've had a better experience in a public hospital.

The 2nd floor is the most disgusting! They treat patients like animals, never check in on them, they serve you a breakfast that not even a dog would eat and not even a hot coffee as a beverage!! Food is worse than a public hospital. This hospital is all about money and the nurses on this floor are incompetent and have no idea whatโ€™s going on. My relative was locked in a room that was like a prison cell. No room to stretch your legs. If you are in the isolation area well good luck, you get food thatโ€™s two days old, no tea/coffee or a small treat for those poor sick patients. Shame on you John Fawkner Management!!! You want the money but you donโ€™t deliver the goods!!!!!!!!

This hospital has failed in their duty of care. The ED staff were wonderful however the abhorrent behaviour and lack of care began from the moment we entered the ward. When a patient discharges themselves at 3am in the morning, that in itself leaves one wondering what is going on. This matter will be escalated.

Recently admitted for laparoscopic cholecystectomy, worsts experience I have ever had in private hospital. Waited 6 hours for my surgery. Which I did a 12 hours fasting instead of 6. Ask for a private room but got a shared room. Asked 3 rotating nurses for an earplug finally got one at 2am! The worst is! that the shower only have cold water. I mention it the nurse he then told me the hot water will kick in one hour time, this is at 7:30am. Thank god for my doctor, happy my gallbladder is removed But I will never select this public (lol) hospital again nor will I refer it.

Hospital needs to move into the 21st century. Looks old and cluttered and messy. Special mention to general surgeon Dr Jacob who performed operation on my sister. Excellent aftercare given. The home nursing staff were also excellent. Thank you all who came to do wound care on my sister at her home.

My Father was admitted to the emergency department yesterday 9th December. My mother told me later that the quality of care from some of the staff in particular the Nurse in charge was appalling she was very rude impersonal and unhelpful and left my mother alone to toilet my father. Not only that my mother was told by ambulance personnel that she couldn't go to the hospital with my father who is 86 and has Alzheimer's, he spent 3 hours alone before my daughter in law pushed he subject with someone from the emergency department so she could be with him. When mum got there he was quite confused and upset, he had not even been ask if he needed to to to the toilet or even offered a glass of water. This is not the first time this hospital has given my father appalling care, also happened during a stay after a hip replacement last year, should have made a complaint then but held it back. Do want to thank Dr David and the young male nurse who took the time to make sure dad and mum were ok.

My mum came from overseas with an overseas health insurance HCF. in her second day in Melbourne she got sick and we visited a GP that suggested take her to emergency as blood clot in her left leg possibly. HCF gave us a list of hospital and I decided to take her to a Jonh Farwner Private hospital 18/11/2022 at 3:30. The service was terrible from the beginning as we tried to explain about mum was referred from the GP but they never listen and only asked to sit and wait. After two in half hours waiting triage nurse call us. She was really rude and was complaining all the time that they were so busy. When she asked about mums insurance she said that I would need needs to speak to the doctor in charge of emergency. When this person showed up only say that hospital was full that they don have any bed available and my mum was from overseas and the hospital can not help her as they need to give priority to Australians and then asked me to take my mum to a public hospital. I insisted him to help my mum but this person did not listen. Pleas staff from hospitals we understand that everyone is busy in our jobs and you people related to the health industry need to care more about patients as every life is precious and absolutely important independently of ethnicity or believes.

Had chest pain and trouble breathing. Went to Emergency Department around 16:30 this afternoon (2/6/23). I believe it was Liz who checked me in and she was calm and caring. The nurses/staff in the emergency department were efficient and communicated well. The staff were great listeners as I explained my symptoms. Doctors West and Moussa were quick to get ECG done and oxygen and painkillers. A precautionary CT scan of chest was done clearing me of heart issues or clotting and revealing a broken rib as the cause of pain. Friendly, professional, efficient and well organised during visit. Thank you so much

As a family we have been attending as a family member has chemotherapy treatment over the last 5 years. The deteoration in nursing staff has significantly increased, and can no longer be blamed on COVID. It is increasingly evident, that this is a profit driven Hospitai, with no regard for patient and family care. So disappointed not with our Doctor, but now the hospital who tends to blame the Agencies with nursing staff. Itโ€™s incompetence over a long period of time that, causes anxiety within the family. It is clearly not my job to prompt staff on what should be happening in their domain. I appreciate everyone has a job to do. However, when that includes family picking up the mistakes of the Hospital, that is not on! Where have all your regular nursing staff gone on the 4th Floor, who I might add were very competent? Due to Mangement Iโ€™m guessing.

I have been to John Fawkner twice in the last 3 weeks for excruciating pain. Each time they did all of the tests they possibly could to rule out any infections and treated me with the appropriate pain relief. When I returned a week later no questions were asked and they knew exactly who I was and what I needed to stay on top of my disease. I appreciate the care I have had here so much.

Terrible service staff is very rude and have no people skills what's so ever! Starting from reception Karen is an extremely bitter and rude person, no phone manners and unnecessarily rude. People go there because they are sick and need help and are treated like cattle. I was badly treated there more than once, and also billed for half a test that was not completed. Unfortunately it is my local hospital and have no choice sometimes, but it really needs a change of staff including some of the doctors!!

The staff have been amazing in caring for my mother, particularly Miray on the 3rd floor. Miray goes above and beyond to make certain my mother's extended stay is comfortable and not lonely. Because of a language barrier, my mum finds it hard to communicate with the staff, although the team try to understand what she needs. Having Miray there, who speaks the same language, and who checks in on her every day, has been a Godsend. Thank you, Miray and the team at John Fawkner, for taking care of my mum and always ensuring she is ok.

Firstly, there is no doubt about the Surgeons & Doctors in this place. The attention to detail of getting my Heart rhythm back into place was a real priority for them. After several hours in emergency, I was taken up to Critical Care for 14 days where the nurses are just amazing. Each & everyone of them are incredible. This was during lockdown where no visitors are allowed, & yet, not once did I ever feel lonely or neglected. The nurses were always popping in to say hello & see how I was coping. It is the nurses who really take care of you & get you back to health under the direction of course by the doctors & surgeons. I can't thank them enough & really do believe that we should all get vaccinated not only to save ourselves, but to save the precious lives of our medical people. Without them a lot of us wouldn't be here. Thank you XXX

I just spent 2 days in JFH after having a spinal fusion. From my surgeon Dr Michael Wong to the staff of the hospital they were all absolutely amazing. The professionalism and care was second to none. Particularly a male nurse I had in ICU named Angelo. He was such a beautiful person. The care he provided to me was phenomenal. Thank you to the staff of the Emergency Department and the ICU. I felt confident that they knew exactly what they were doing and made quick decisions during a situation which was serious given the fact that I ended up in ICU. Although during COVID and no visitors allowed I felt safe, comfortable and not alone. The hard working staff were attentive and made me feel that the situation was something I shouldn't panic about. Thank you again to an amazing team!!

The Coordinator that works at night is so rude that she needs upskilling. She was more concerned about payment rather than the patient. I pity the public when this is happening to the doctors and their families. Shame on this coordinator for being so low. Should chose another occupation where she doesn't have to interact or deal with serving humanity. I wish I could give a -5 star rating.

The nurses and doctors are some of the most remarkable and kind people we have ever dealt with. Made my whole family feel safe and explained the whole surgery process to me. Although it was a very stressful time we had all the information we needed and everyone explained everything to us from start to finish. Thank you!!!

Itโ€™s taken me a month to write this review since my mother passed away at this hospital. If I could give them 0 stars I would have but google wouldnโ€™t let me! I have never met so many incompetent staff, nurses and doctors. Bad communication, especially in Covid times especially when you couldnโ€™t visit loved ones. Nurses who donโ€™t even know how to transfer calls, not passing on messages and phones that didnโ€™t work. I called everyday to get a doctor to call me for updates. When I did get a call I got 3 conflicting answers. Also when my mother was distraught I asked to get an exemption to see her and to this day Iโ€™m still waiting for the co-ordinator to get back to me. Our complaint is still being investigated and this hospital denied me to see my mother one last time before she passed. Total bunch of incompetent people. **** Avoid this hospital!!! **** Used to be good many many years ago but unfortunately has declined.

Had day surgery yesterday and cannot fault this hospital at all, all staff, nurses specialists ect where all well mannered and excellent at what they do. Which made the usual hospital visit less daunting. Facilities and setup also top notch. Keep up the good work and thanks again.

The nursing staff here are absolute gems. I had day surgery and was a little anxious about it, the nurses at John Fawkner went above and beyond to make me feel confortable and at ease. Really appreciated it!

Thank you to the nurses and doctor that treated me here when I rushed into ER needing assistance. The triage nurse was very empathetic and kind when hearing my issues and the nurses looking after me in the ward section were very friendly/helpful. My mind was at ease the whole time and felt even more confidant when the nurses would double check everything with each other then with me to make sure I knew what drugs I was being given during my time there. The doctor came to check on me a few times to see how I was going and let me know what was going on. Would come back here again if I ever needed to!

They didn't take me seriously in the ED because I am young and I had heart palpitations, chest pain and kept collapsing. I noticed they only took extra care of the older patients and barely checked up on me. They did minimal tests like an ecg and blood test but refused to admit me for further testing because those tests were normal. My blood pressure was fluctuating dramatically and making me feel so sick but they didn't care and played it off as nothing. Mind you I went to the ED because my GP heard my heart arrythmia and saw my high blood pressure and was scared I was about to have a heart attack so she sent me to the ED immediately. The hospital then sent me home the same way I came in I've been collapsing at home every day and have to wait for my echocardiogram results as an outpatient which is taking forever. Just imagine having to look after a 3 year old alone all week with an undiagnosed heart condition...I'm petrified. Not to mention I have heart palpitations, bad chest, neck and shoulder pain and a burning sensation across my chest with fatigue, dizziness and sometimes I feel confused because I feel so exhausted...but the hospital was happy to just take my money and send me home with no proper care. I am not a fan of this hospital.

Pain. I went to emergency with a broken arm. Stayed 5 days in agony. The nurses kept saying that 2 Endone was excessive analgesia. On discharge I went straight to Epworth Private and received adequate pain meds and care. John Falkner was negligent. Thank god for the Epworth

Has specialists clinics, we go to the Cardiologist there and they are fantastic. Accepts pension cards and Medicare rebates. Parking is a hassle most of the time. The car park isn't that big and normally have to park on the street and side streets,so can be a bit of a walk.

The two blonde receptionist woman in the MRI front desk are extremely rude and self titled. They need to realise they are receptionists and first point of contact and welcome into the facility, I have never been so embarrassed at how not only one person on entry but the second person on leaving my appointment could be so rude and loud and disorganised in their speech and manners. Very unprofessional and unpleasant experience, thank you for making me feel even more stressed about my body and my health. There needs to be a better approach to training the reception, or a check in on who they have working there as first point of contact, it really reflects badly on health care and patients experience and dignity.

On Wed 02 Aug I attended John Fawkner for Carpal Tunnel surgery. I arrived at 7:00 and all set to leave by 10:45. I'm compelled to say the entire experience was so good, I didn't want it to end. Every part of the process was thorough, professional and with genuine warmth, care and effort. The facilities and housekeeping are first class and the induction team and nursing staff carry an inner glow, very easy to talk to, and I kid you not, there are members of the team with persona's that caused my heart to skip a beat. There is a lot to be said for choosing a local hospital and being able to converse with other patients from around the general area. Hospital Management....what ever you are doing, please keep on doing it. You have wonderful people. You must be so proud.
