DO NOT COME HERE. My partner and I wanted to move into a space in 2017 that was consistently quiet and "stress-free" so we could study on the most important and difficult degrees in our life (we both are writing a thesis). So, we decided to give LaTrobe Accommodation Services a try because we heard they had a postgraduate building where mature students could reside in and study in peace and quiet, without any external stress variables. So, when we heard the words ā€˜quiet buildingā€™ and ā€˜mature studentsā€™, we decided to give it a go. It sounded like the perfect environment. Overall, our stay was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING. Was it quiet? No. Did the building sound like it had ā€˜mature-ageā€™ students who were working on postgraduate studies? No. The people in the building were great, do not get me wrong - I had absolutely no problem with them. They were respectful and kind. However, LaTrobeā€™s accommodation services UTTERLY mislead us and they should be ashamed of themselves. The contract specified a quiet building and we did not get one. We were often kept up at night from other residents socialising in the lounge room, and despite LaTrob Accommodation Services consistently holding meetings to inform residents about the ā€˜quiet conditionsā€™, nothing changed. In fact, one night the noise was so loud in the lounge room we decided to call the night manager. Instead of the night manager telling the residents off and asking them to quiet down at 1.00am in the morning, he spent thirty minutes in there chatting with them, resolving absolutely nothing in the process. We tried many times for LaTrobe to do something about this and they failed because they only fundamentally care about your money and not your wellbeing. We were kept up at night all too often and this is unacceptable when you are expected to work on a thesis in addition to working near-full time hours. If you are wanting a quiet, stress-free and secure space to work on your studies, DO NOT come here. They do not care about your studies nor your wellbeing. They just want your money. There was NOTHING in the contract that said that people would be getting drunk at 1.00am in the morning on a weekdayā€¦ I am extremely disappointed with LaTrobeā€™s services.
