The lake itself was not too clean. There was a warning sign against fishing. Saw a number af dead fish washed up on shore. The boardwalk through the marshes was overgrown and there was no view. The surroundings were otherwise well kept and the facilities were well used by families having picnics. It was too warm for us to walk around the lake. Another day perhaps.

The path around the lake is a great walking and cycling trail, also perfect for dog walking. It’s nice to see that some areas are fenced off to protect native flora and fauna. Cherry lake is a great place to come for a picnic without having to drive far from the suburbs. There are also nice and modern playground, exercise equipment and bbq facilities nearby.

Absolutely beautiful! We live in the area but had never been, was so suprised that despite being situated in a mainly industrial area it feels like you're out of the city, great playground and has toilets.

Perfect place for an early morning run. The lake is a convenient venue for remote controlled boat enthusiasts to race or simply to practice.

Who doesn't like cherries and don't even get me started on lakes... They've recently added gym equipment on the park side and its added value to an already great walk when the beach is too windy. Quack Quack don't put the carp back.

Nice clean park with a very large lake in the middle. Dog friendly of dog is on a leash. A few well set up exercise areas around the lake. Nice place on a warm day to walk around with the dog.

I love this place, especially in the early evenings as the sun is setting. Very pretty. Though the reeds area currently a little overgrown, particularly at the little boardwalk near the car park, which could also do with some fresh slats, and near the bird viewing hut which is completely inaccessible. It would be great to be able to use those facilities.

If you like long walks by the lake and the dystopian nightmare of heavy industry, this place is for you. The flames from the oil refinery look so beautiful on a starlit night.

Nice place. It's a park area on a lake. What do you need to know? It's safe. No junkies. Swans only kill every few years. Bike tracks, play equipment, gym equipment, places to drop a log, BBQ, bring dogs, bring kids, push grandma's wheel chair in the water, whatever floats your boat in an outdoor setting. 1 star off for having no quarter mile race track or pigeon shooting range. But it made up for it when Mr Whippy arrived!

Nice park for an easy, flat 3.5km walk, however no shade so I was very hot today. Sadly all the fish were dead from a recent pollution incident which made it less enjoyable. But I liked seeing the Pelicans, Black Swans, Ducks and Wrens.

The path is concrete all the way around on a level ground so an easy walk. Very well maintained with views of the lake. Needs seating and a water fountain half way around to stop enjoy the view and rest the legs for those that are older or have difficulty walking.

Cherry Lake is great to go for a walk. Stretch legs and muscles that don't get used enough working in the office or from home. The area is well kept and has plenty to see and do. I like to come here and wander around to wind down after a days work or simply to get outside.

Since I moved to this area, I have been in Cherry Lake 3 times. My first time I was very impressed. I saw many birds, Swans, ducks and Pelicans. I love how Pelicans they were ballet dancing in the lake (see video). My third time I went there it is still beautiful but I am a bit sad about the water in the lake. The water is smelly and polluted from the recent chemical spill. And I can’t see the Pelicans, not many birds as well. I hope it will get better soon.

There are three entrances for cars. Millers Rd is main entrance the other two located via back streets off Civic Parade. A good place to have a bbq/picnic for a small gathering. Public toilets are clean - locations at two different parts of Cherry Lake. One near playground the other towards the back of the AFL/Hockey/Athletic Clubs. Playground is good for young children and the new fitness set up is great for workouts. The path is great for cycling/running/walking about 4km. A few people chill out with their fishing rods with a picnic basket and a book. If you’re visiting during summer on Sundays the farmers market is great quality food.

Unsure about water quality still, no proper update, people casted rods in but there is sign not to use the water. This is going too long not to fish, not happy!!!

Great park. Went there for a fish on a full moon night, what a view i had, absolutely stunning. The city lighting up infront of me, full moon on top, no wind and clear sky, loved it. Has bbq and play ground for kids. Has toilets but get locked at night. Good parking space. Great for a family picnic.

What a fabulous oasis in Altona and nice and close to the beach. Habitat to many birds and other wildlife, I found the walking circuit around the lake to be just the right distance. Located on Miller’s Road not far from Seaholme Station, there is a large carpark, plenty of tables, shelters, bbq’s, a couple of playgrounds, a lot of fitness equipment, toilet blocks, water fountains and a track for bikes or walking. This lake was made in the early 1960’s designed for a flood retention basin for residential expansion in Altona and Brooklyn. However, it did have another life prior to this as a motor racing circuit, constructed in 1954. Certainly a valuable addition to the area. Wheelchair accessible. Plenty of open spaces for activities and kids play. Dogs welcome but please pick up their waste and keep on lead. Fishing allowed - but read the signs.

We are privileged to live across the road from Cherry lake. We observe it's moods from sparkling to angry. It's a functioning air port with domestic and international bird visitors. They mainly come for the fine dining. We humans also dine there. But at the BBQ area (mostly). As locals, we visit mostly, to walk Cherry lake's lengthy circumference.

πŸ‘ Two paths to the lake .. much of muchness : both at least 500m walk, easy walk down hill - but if hike back up.. (some stairs one the right hand path (looking toward lake) tho. The river flowing on either side does not run through it, but the still cool water seems pretty good to me.
