This is a little oasis in the suburbs of the inner west. The paths are well laid out, it's easy trails and so many many birds and wildlife. Repurposed from a quarry and later even from a landfill, this is exactly what can be done if you have dedicated people with a plan. When in the western Melbourne suburbs, I cannot recommend a short visit here enough.

Still one of my favourite nature places in the inner west of Melbourne! It's great for walking, for kids to interact and see local birds, fish and animals. Apart from the planes overhead, you get a very distinct separation from city life! You can really lose yourself here... Great in every season!

Beautiful to visit & get into nature. Makes you feel like you’ve escaped the city without actually having done so. Car park onsite. To the left of the car park are restrooms & if you take a walk further up there’s a playground & you can walk your dogs on lead. To the right of the car park - the actual Newport Lake reserve, you cannot bring your dogs in for a walk. It is prohibited. There’s a great stepping stone path that crosses over the water. It is safe. My octogenarian mother with a walking stick was able to do it. There’s flat grass areas where groups have picnics.

A fun day out with the family. I had a pram so had to walk around the stepping stones which was fun. With my 3 year old child we were able to cross the stones a few times before collecting our pram. There are a few kids playgrounds near the start. Also has a covered bbq area near car park.

When I grew up in this neighbourhood this was an old abandoned basalt quarry, we kids would get through the fence and have fun exploring the quarry. What an excellent transformation that has happened. The people who enjoy this beautiful space have no idea how much work and cleaning up was involved. I thank all responsible for this beautiful space.

Beautiful Park. Big but not too big, easy to go around in 1 to 1,5hrs. Little Lake in the middle with a cool stone way to cross it. Lots of birds and a few Tiger snakes sometimes. Very nice place to spend a day or couple hours

Who will believe that there is this kind of place in the middle of busy suburb of Newport? Well it’s true, this serene reserve park is one not to be missed. Decent amount of walk around the lake and through to that boulders across the lake. Yes those rocks in the photos are walkable. Shady walk and enjoyed the descending, ascending and winding gravelled trails. Some stops for sight seeing are also available. Many through paths to the other side of the park where off leash dogs are allowed. There is also playground on that side with clean bbq and toilets good for family to hang around on a very wide healthy lawn. Ample car parking otherwise can also park outside On the street and it’s just a short walk in. We’ll be back there again.

Amazing recreational park just over the West gate. There's something for all ages here: dog walkers, kids' playground, plant aboretum, and picnic areas with water views. Paths are wheel chair accessible...mainly gravel but maintained. There's even a friendly Park Run that loops the lake on Saturdays. Toilets are centrally located but could have done with a clean. Good options for public transport or easy car parking make this a perfect half day outing for anyone in Melbourne.

Love this place. Former quarry that has been rewilded. Lovely for a walk or bird watching. Quite kid friendly. There's playgrounds and another park nearby as well as a botanical garden. Walking across the stones in the lakes is always fun. There's a couple of little lawns for picnics too, right in the middle of Newport.

What a find! Newport Lakes is a beautiful and quite large natural bushland park with two scenic lakes. There are toilets and picnic amenities, and if it's quiet enough you might get the platform looking out over the lake to yourself. Tracks around the lakes are very easy, with an optional set of stepping-stones providing a bit of extra excitement for the kids.

I hadn't been here in many years but the Beauty of it hasn't stopped. Teaming with wildlife and in the middle of the western suburbs. It surprises you how much you feel like you are in the country when you take the walking tracks. I felt so at peace I didn't want to leave. There are gazebos, barbeques, children's play equipment, a nursery and plenty of parking both regular and disabled. The barbeques are free and the public toilets were clean and tidy. I am going to go here again soon to make use of the amazing walking tracks.

Amazing pocket of nature. Literally in the heart of a popular suburb, you wouldn't even know it once you're walking around the lake. Very nice, makes me want to move to this suburb.

Unreservedly five stars. There is a public toilet, BBQ area, playground, a reasonable amount of parking, an off leash area in Pavey Park next door (no dogs on the trails around the water I'm afraid) and some lovely walking trails around the lake. If you are walking around, take care if crossing the lake on the rock-bridge but I saw people (including me) crossing it just fine. If walking, do both the circuit closer to the lake and the one higher up. Some nice views. And watch out for the rock-art.

Short and long walks available, easy walks, good for jogging too, many varied spaces, nursery next to exit is great for how to set up local indigenous gardens. Toilets are wheelchair accessible, playgrounds opposite for children and families, under over bbq areas opposite the lakes carpark. Seats are spotted throughout walk tracks for a rest and a great bird lookout.

This is one of the absolute hidden gems of Melbourne. This park, which is an old quarry, has been done up back into a bushland setting, built around the lake that is inside the old quarry. Newport Lakes Parkrun is based here and I did a lot of Saturday morning Parkruns here. There is no way you will find this unless you know its there. It is tucked inside houses and because it is sunken you wont see any of it until you are in it. Once you have found it though take a walk around the outside track and then head down into the crater to find the lake. The paths meander around the lake and you will spend hours exploring. If your looking for a challenging run check it out as well, the hills will challenge you. Well done to Council for the initial upgrade and the ongoing maintenance of the park.

Great park for an escape to nature. Absolutely stunning and beautiful, you'd never know that you're in the middle of suburbia. The lakes themselves former quarries are now a precious nature reserve housing many water birds and the occasional growling grass frog! Parrots frequent the park in the warmer months and sparrow hawks have even been spotted here. The dog park area is a must for local dog owners. The huge off lead area around the top oval is a great walk with pup, and nice big open areas for play and serious games of fetch. Many from the local community walk and play together in packs, great for social doggies and puppies learning about the world.

Well maintained, lovely quiet space for a walk either on your own or with your dogs trotting along off lead beside you. Tracks around the lakes themselves are even better, but that area is off limits to your canine friends.

Beautiful place to be. Wonderful atmosphere and wildlife. Would recommend for a serene and calm environment for walks. Bikes not allowed so would not recommend riding here. Stone bridge is incredibly calming and enjoyable. Beautiful mosaics found all over the shop which as an art enjoyer were incredible to see.

The Newport Lakes Reserve is an amazing escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The serene atmosphere, surrounded by the beauty of sparkling lake and nature, provides a perfect setting for relaxation and refreshment. The park is well-maintained and clean with a variety of walking trails, picnic & BBQ areas and toilet. It is great for family outings with lots of play space and play equipment for children to play safely and explore. This is definitely a must-visit spot for nature lovers and those looking for a peaceful retreat.

What a magnificent reserve. There is a beautiful lake in the middle with lots and lots of wildlife. Definately no dogs allowed in that section but there is another massive off-lead section which all the dogs love to bits. They can run, jump, play and socialise with other dog breeds of which there are many.

Just amazing bushland experience in suburbia. Easy parking, lovely grassed areas to picnic but the highlight was the meander along the bush track to a lookout over the lake. Not sure if all the tracks are easy walking but the path to the lookout was well kept and accessible.

Beautiful reserve with parking facilities (need to check at the timings for the gate closing). The reserve is not that big but it makes up for a good days trip. Nice trail for trekking and the lake with a stone bridge (be careful crossing it) is a great picturesque location. Entrance is via mason street and it as ample parking space where you dont have to worry about your car while you're enjoying. Its great for a family adventure for a place with your mates.
