The circuit walk around the reservoir is very pleasant. Interesting views, and plenty of kangaroos to see. The track is well-marked as easy to follow. Don't believe the signs saying that the circuit is 18km. It's a lot more like 16km. Started at the Saddle Dam picnic area and walled anti-clockwise. One small hill about 265m high (steepish climb of about 65m), but the rest of the track is gently undulating except for the dam walls which are flat a sealed surface.

The Sugarloaf Reservoir Circuit Walk wasn't as pleasant as I thought. The 15km walk provides you with two different environments between the Saddle Dam Picnic Area in the South and the Sugarloaf Sailing Club in the North: A beautiful, 5 star forest walk in the East and a boring, mainly gravel road walk in the West. Either try to avoid the latter or do it first, so you are not exposed to the hot sun in summer and have a pleasant ending to your hike. Having said that, the reservoir is beautiful and worth the effort. If you like to take some photos and have some short rests here and there, then set aside 4 hours for the walk. The gates are open in summer at 8am and you can access the park via Simpson and Ridge Rd.

Lovely place to picnic and hike! One would never be lost on the 18 km 5 hours hike around the reservoir! I find the clockwise a bit easier. The runners come here too.

Beautiful, peaceful and quiet. You got to navigate via the correct path otherwise you can be off-road for about 1.5 km and it can damage your tyres. Have a walk if the weather is good and you will enjoy the tranquility of the palace.

Beautiful spot for a walk, long or short! Water, wildlife and greenery are all very nice. Be careful of snakes when it's warm though!

Loved the circuit walk - mostly shaded. The new solar farm means there is a permanent detour around it so watch out for signs. Elsewhere there are path markers every 50-100m Can be a bit slippery in parts after it rains, so best to hike with someone. Plenty of wildlife and you can find yourself turning a corner and in the middle of a kangaroo mob - surprising everyone. There is a runaway sheep that I saw east of solar farm that is in need of a shear and hanging out with the roos. If you can catch it, you might be saving its life!

Sugarloaf Reservoir has a nice big dam wall you can drive around, it also has a large walking track that goes around the whole area. At the moment the water is low and you can walk down to the beach area around the water. Some parts are a bit rocky but there’s soft sandy like areas to walk as well. The water is really low at the time of this review so entering the park at the entrance you will be able to walk right down the bank to go for a walk around the outskirts.

Reservoir itself is stunning, with its calm waters reflecting the surrounding trees and mountains. The walking trails are well-maintained and offer beautiful views of the reservoir and the surrounding bushland. The birdlife in the area is also quite impressive, with plenty of opportunities for birdwatching. However, one issue I encountered during my visit was the lack of proper barbecue facilities. There are only a few designated barbecue areas, and they tend to get quite crowded during peak times. Furthermore, the barbecue areas were not very well-maintained, and there was a shortage of seating and tables. I feel that the reservoir management could improve the overall experience by providing more barbecue facilities and ensuring that they are properly maintained. This would allow visitors to enjoy a picnic or barbecue while taking in the beautiful surroundings.

Took just under three hours to walk around it. The gate was semi locked getting in so thought it was shut but just have to open it yourself. Follow the orange to find your way around. Didn't see many animals mainly kangaroos.

A beautiful spot with a lot kangaroos hopping around. Golden hour cruising on the bay and watching sunrise near the reservoir track. Very clean facilities too.

Had a fantastic day at Sugarloaf Reservoir in Christmas Hills, Victoria. This picturesque water body not only offers a tranquil escape surrounded by lush greenery but also plays a crucial role as a vital water supply source for the region. We had a lovely time, and it's no wonder why both locals and tourists flock to this serene destination. πŸŒΏπŸ’§

I did the 15 km.walk around with my girlfriends Really beautiful walk. Stick close to the lake to not get off track. Will do again. High recommended. Leave earlier in the A.M as UT can get hot in summer. Unfortunately tour not allowed to swim here.

Great for a picnic and scenic lookouts! Highly recommend the 15km trail around the reservoir. Is ideal to visit in autumn as it can get quite muddy at certain times of the year. Very peaceful and quite place to spend your days off.

Great hike around the reservoir. Trail signs give a length of 18km, but it’s actually about 15km.

Absolutely mad place. Wildlife is exceptional, with a range of natives such as Kangaroo and Wombats among others. Very scenic, always has great views, especially if you stay until sunset. Plenty of parking and facilities, as well as a nice walking track. If you are keen for a fish there are always redfin biting.

Excellent facilities, so close to Melbourne and yet a great bushland feeling. The walk around the reservoir requires water and some snacks but has great signage and directions, and is fairly shaded for most of the route. Will be back again
