Half Moon bay is a great spot for photography, especially aerial photography. The old HMAS Cerberus is a great subject to shoot from the air. It's good for sunset too. You also have the old cliffs which look great from above. There are some good fish and chips at the kiosk near the pier and boat ramp. The beach itself is really nice and gets pretty busy during summer. You can climb over the cliff rocks and find a more secluded beach around that area too.

This was one of my favourite beaches when I was in Melbourne. The long stretch of beach is suitable for those who like to sunbathe, swim, and watch the sunrise or sunset. An interesting highlight of this place is the craggy cliffs. This place gathers quite a lot of young people and families, especially on weekends and holidays. If you're afraid of sunlight, you may need to bring an umbrella or wear a hat because there is almost no shade here. It's only about 20km from the CBD, so it's very convenient to get here. Parking is also quite comfortable. However, there's a lot of sand from the parking lot down to the beach on windy days, so you may need to bring sunglasses to protect your eyes if needed.

We visited this nice beach based on a recommendation of a friend and we spent an enjoyable time. A clean beach with soft sands and interesting red cliffs, which attracts many visitors especially on a sunny day. Care must be taken while crossing over the cliffs to access the other part of the beach and enjoy the great view.

It's good beach to spend time with family. There is cool red bluff lookout and nice fish and chip at the kiosk.

Breath taking bay with red ochre cliffs. Beautiful pathways to different view points. Family place with ample parking. But rocky area underwater. Need to be careful while walking barefoot. Good view points. Pier is a nice walkway.

Did not see the snake warning before going here! But there are many! It was a great place for a photoshoot though. Photos by Cadence and Grace (look her up on Instagram, she's awesome)

Half Moon Bay beach has a very active and accessible southern corner, with a more natural and quieter northern section. Access and parking are good at both ends. Care should be taken if near the remains of the Cerberus

A large sandy beach with clear shallow water and some spots with small interesting rocks and shells and occasionally some pretty seaglass. The lovely cliffs frame the beach with views of the shipwreck and a pier. Access down a very long ramp path or from a carpark at the vary end where there is a cafe and a lifesaving club which has unisex toilets and outdoor cold rinse shower. Recommend.

I recently visited Half Moon Beach in Melbourne and I must say, it is a truly beautiful and relaxing place. The beach itself is stunning, with soft sand and crystal-clear waters. It's the perfect spot to unwind and soak up the sun. From the cliff, you can enjoy panoramic vistas of the ocean and the surrounding coastline. It's a sight that is truly breathtaking and one that shouldn't be missed. The atmosphere at Half Moon Beach is also very serene and peaceful. It's not overly crowded, which adds to the overall tranquility of the place. Whether you're looking to take a leisurely stroll along the shoreline or simply sit back and enjoy the scenery, this beach offers the perfect environment to unwind and recharge. It's a hidden gem.

Nice beach with pleasant area to sit. You should bring your own shade because there isn't any on the actual beach. To get down to the beach there is also a big ramp. The sand is pleasant and the water is nice, no rocks or seaweed.

(Translated by Google) The car can be driven directly to the beach, including sampans, sailing boats, and fishing. The beach may be crowded during the day and there are almost no people at 5:30 in the evening. The location of the fish and chip shop next to it is excellent, and I am going to book a seafood meal with invincible sea view next time by the second floor window.

This is a life changing destination, as soon as i pulled my car into the carpark i knew this was the spot. As me and my gf who sprained her ankle a few days prior on a small ledge at on a different beach in east gippsland hopped out of the car, we breathed in the gail force winds and gazed upon the glistening choppy seas. As i walked down to the beach i couldn't help but be enthralled by the sheer majesty of the waves breaking upon its matte rocks while my gf stumbled down the stairs somewhere behind me. As i walked along the shoreline it served as a reminder that you can still be knee deep in natures beauty, even in the big city. As i walked back to my car with my gf presumably following me i sat and reflected on natures supple beauty, a worthwhile visit for any serious enthusiast.

Childhood classic. A pier to jump off, an old shipwreck to swim by (but never climb right?), A cliff face to explore. A fish and chips to the side and a lovely beach. I love this place.

One of the better bay beaches. Great location for a swim, explore around the cliffs (carefully of course), or just to sit and watch the sunset. Parking options aren't too bad, and although it can get busy here (comparable to beaches closer to the CBD), it's never too hard to find some space to set up for whatever you want to do.

It is a wonderful small beach. No rocks under water, just a soft sand. Good place to spend time with your family. Not much free land for sunbathing, as there are always a lot of people. There is also a car park, restaurant and public toilets in the area. People come here to ride Jet Ski and small yachts. If you are not interested in sunbathing and swimming, you can take a path to the nearest rocks and enjoy beautiful ocean views or watch a sunset or a sunrise. There is also a picnic/bbq area with large tables and benches.

Half Moon Bay beach is a scenic delight, with its iconic cliffs and calm waters offering a picturesque setting. It's perfect for a relaxed day out, especially with its historic shipwreck adding a touch of intrigue. The beach is well-suited for swimming and picnicking. However, while the bay provides a serene ambiance, during peak times it can get a bit crowded, which may detract from its otherwise peaceful vibe. The nearby amenities are functional but could benefit from some upgrades. Overall, Half Moon Bay is a lovely beach destination with just a few areas for improvement.

Cute little beach protected by the cliffs which makes you forget just how close you are to the CBD! The cafe has a great selection of food and drinks and good facilities on site too. Only slight downside is that as a result of all this is does get pretty busy.

great beach with a pier, sunken ship and a nice but overpriced fish n chips shop. gets very busy during peak times, can be hard to find parking so better ride a bike or catch a train and walk

This is a picturesque beach and wreck protected from most wind directions except south. Cliffs are spectacular but dangerous to climb. Should be admired not abused , sunsets are magical. We are blessed to be able to have such magnificent beaches in Melbourne.

Super, clean water, good for surfing, but to be honest the PARKING fees should be lower than this more than 6 $ per hour. It goes quickly. By the way, it is perfect.

  • 5/5 Akmal A. 1 year ago on Google
Loved this family friendly beach. Soft sand, very few dogs, water was clear and shallow. However it could use a bit more wave to add fun to it but overall perfect summer beach for families with small kids. Parking is plenty, charged at $6.80 an hour

  • 2/5 Karen Q. 1 year ago on Google
The shipwreck view isn't worth the lack of parking and dirty water.. Overcrowded and basic white britches in their 20s who think they're tough steal your parking spots. Those "easy" park machines are PATHETIC! It would only allow me to get a 2 hour park.. Even though I wanted 4 hours.

Half moon beach is quite good if you are disappointed with beaches in Melbourne (such as St.Kilda). We also prefer this beach to Brighton beach. Although there are the beautiful bathing boxes in Brighton, there is very unclear water. That’s why we rather choose the Half moon beach, which has cleaner water and far less people.

I visit this beach first time. Today was hot weather +30 and there was a lot of people its very difficult find parking place even so its not free , price 18$. I very dont like thats beach its many people, very problem to put blanket because all occupeted by people up to ocean. Many people go in front of me and i cant see ocean, only legs of people. I dont recommend this place visit for summer. Its terrible!
