Good to see lots of happy dogs socialising and running on the beach and wading through the shallow water. Most of the owners do pick up after their pets. However, do watch where you step as there are some owners who leave their doggy poo for others to pick or step on.

Off lead area is a spit across from boat dock. Some saltbush, some clean sand, some mudflat and seaweed. Dogs love it. Spacious. Good, safe spots for dogs to get wet. Securely fenced. Has bins. Parking is very limited. Don't come on busy days.

Stunning beach and a great location to let your dogs off-leash! Our Aussie loves playing with the other dogs (goes crazy!) which suitable wears her out for the rest of the day! There's shallow water in places for our dog to swim without being too worried, but most of the time she's running after other dogs or being chased (which she loves!). A great place for dog socialisation.

I don't know how this place is so highly reviewed, a good little spot but its just a fence around an area, no facilities, no drinking troughs, no wash area. The right hand side stinks of rotting seaweed and its not well maintained. There are much better appointed dog beaches around the bay

Excellent area. Very popular. Shallow water for dog romping. Fenced off from other areas makes it safe for all. Water available. Missing were dog poo bags and dog showers. Parking is at a premium.

Was a nice experience to take my pup but it’s not totally fenced for young dogs and the are lots of broken shells etc on the sand and in the water. Next time I’ll take shoes to wear in water. Plenty of bins to dispose of pet waste so it’s very clean. Don’t go if you don’t have a dog that plays well with other dogs or don’t want to have dogs coming up to you and your pooch. It’s a DOG BEACH. I will say the view of the city skyline as well as the marina is lovely. I’d go back with my pup.

It's great! Parking is a little interesting as there is no car park as such, you park in small side streets, then make your way to shore. Fenced off area where you can let your pup off lead. We went in low tide around lunchtime, massive area where you and your pup can run along the dunes and swim together

This is a great place to bring your dog's, just be mindful of the people, and their own dogs, around you. It's a pity that there seems to be a lot of garbage that washes ashore in this area, and I feel the local council should do more with it's clean-up. In conclusion, just keep an eye on your pets and make sure they don't eat something they shouldn't. And don't forget to clean up after both your pet and yourself.

Very large sand shore at low tide... dogs have 1000s of meters to run around with owners anf other dogs. Its known as the dog section. As long as your dog isnt a danger. All are welcome

Ya'll are in denial if you think this dog beach is good, I recently took my dog there, and I came back with several lacerations on my foot due to the copious amount of sharp, jagged sea shells there were on the sand. There are no facilities, not even a tap to wash off sand, just don't go, Altona dog beach is better

This large triangular sandy area jutting into the bay is fenced with a gate and dogs can run off leash all year round. The beach is very popular with dog owners and you'll always find some doggy friends there. There are some cafes nearby but prices are high and be prepared to take out an extra mortgage for a meal. Brighton Dog Beach is also known as Sandown Street Dog Beach and some free parking can be found in Sandown Street. Copied and pasted from Melbourne Playgrounds website.

It’s a great space for your dog to run around - but not completely fenced in. Our dog isn’t used to suburbia (is from acreage) so needs a fenced in space whilst interstate. After running around for a while, him and another dog quickly got up the rocks. More just be cautious if you’re after fenced in.

Such a beautiful spot to hang out with your furry loved one! The area is huge, lots of different spots - on the sand, in the water & through the grass! Doggy bags are available on entry & the area is fenced off. Was windy the day I visited but still enjoyed the space (& every dog in sight seemed to be loving it; 0)

A great fenced in dog beach with sand dunes for them to run up and down. Pooh bags are provided which is fantastic. Lots of people come here from all over with their dogs so it's a great place for yr dog to socialize

A fully fenced in dog beach. Our dogs love it and we love the piece of mind knowing you're dog can't run too far. If you plan to go best time is low tide as kite surfers come in high tide, however they always are respectful and avoid any dogs who venture into the water

This is a great place to take your dog for a swim in the beach. Everyone is always friendly and the dogs seem to absolutely love the water and playing with other dogs. It’s an enclosed area so it means that you won’t lose your dog... normally!

Fully fenced dog beach. The gates have a large gap at the bottom so small dogs can escape. Otherwise this place is pretty fab.

Best dog beach in Melbourne. Really sheltered from big waves, fully gated so your dog can't run away, and the water is nice and shallow thanks to the sand banks!

Great place to reel in a few undersized Pinky's. Catch, kiss and release. The pups love a few laps down by the water and there's plenty of other pooches to play with.

For dog lovers who are happy to be surrounded by off leash members of man's best friend, many wet and shaking dry, this is a wonderful way to spend quality time with your dog. The dogs are friendly and eager to sniff and then make you and your dog into a their new besties. Located near dog friendly coffee and eating areas like outside the Middle Beach Baths where your dog can sit on your lap. The Brighton Yacht Club provides water and allows you to tie your dog outside.

Lovely day out for both of us. Met nice people and well behaved dogs. Later had fish and chips at Cafe to finish off the day. Paid $14 for just over 4 hours in the car park as not sure where else to park. Not bad I suppose for area and convenience.

Dog friendly beach off leash. The fence is old wiring that's been up for a while so it's not completely enclosed. Still huge in space with sand mounds and the water for dogs

Nice place for your fairy friend to have a really good time. I was expecting a fenced place so puppies can also have a run without the owner of the dog worrying they are going to run away...

My favourite dog beach! Nice flat water for dogs to tread in and lots of space for running around

  • 3/5 Karen K. 3 years ago on Google
It's beautiful here and so much space. Great for locals. I'll definitely go again but...the park can get very busy... difficult to find parking (I'm not a local) and not close by so you have to be prepared to walk and carry light belongings. There doesn't seem to be a source of fresh water nearby so dog will be smelly unless you carry water/bucket in the car for clean up. Some park users don't pick up rubbish or dog poo. It is a huge space so if you have a very young or untrained dog it is too risky to take their lead off. Multiple entry sites all have bins and poop bags. Great if you arrive really early before the crowds. On my next visit I did find a great water fountain for people and pets...follow the path towards the Yacht Club for toilets and food/coffee :)

  • 2/5 KAREN S. 1 year ago on Google
Yes, it's an off-leash dog beach, but beware that although it is listed as fully fenced - that is simply not true. The fences average at just above adult knee-height, are mostly broken down and some places only about 30 cm high due to sand build-up. The fences go along the footpath but not across the beach, so there is nothing to stop your dog going all the way to St. Kilda. At the southern end there is a gently sloping rick /boulder wall that starts at the sand and slopes gently up to the footpath, so definitely NOT fenced. If you have a highly energetic bird dog, new rescue or young dog with limited recall - use this beach with care. It is just a normal off-leash beach for old dogs, overweight dogs or Velcro dogs.

Great off leash area for dogs who like the beach. Gorgeous view of the city skyline too. Needs a public toilet next to it.

  • 4/5 Joe K. 8 months ago on Google
Great experience here but not completely fenced in hence the 4 stars. Good place to socialise dogs and they all run around having the time of their lives. Extra poop bags too at the gates which is very handy as we ran out. Just be weary if your dogs head over to the rocks it’s not fenced in so maybe call them back

  • 5/5 Fiona D. 1 month ago on Google • 6 reviews New
Wigsy favourite beach. Lots of sniffing then a quick dip and a roll in the seaweed. Bliss.🐕
