It was our first time here visiting the famous 82 Brighton Bathing Boxes. This place is a favorite destination for those visiting Melbourne. Entry to this place is free, except for vehicle parking. These cute colorful wooden boxes are unique and artistic. It's really cool if you can take pictures or take selfies with these beach houses as the background. All bathing boxes are made with classic Victorian architectural features, have the same size and are more than a century old. There are no electrical facilities connected in it, nor water. Also, walking along the beach is fun and enjoyable.

Nothing much to do here. But it is a great photo opportunity. Beautiful beach. The colours of the bathing boxes are so lovely. There’s a lot of these bathing boxes here so take your time walk along the beach. So many unique designs, makes me want to have one myself :)

Wonderful beach with colourful bathing box. Relaxing. Worth to take some photos if on the way to somewhere else. Sand here was not as smooth as gold coast surfers paradise. Wave were relatively small and water not so clean. Ideal place for sunbathing. 3 stars No entrance tickets needed. There is a public toilet near one end of the bathing boxes.

No toilets, no showers, no changing rooms, no trash bins, no pedestrian crossing to pass across the road to the beach, insufficient parking space, loads of traffic congestion. The bathing boxes are mere decorations and have no useful purpose. But the beach itself is clean except for some rocks and seaweeds here and there inside the water. You might also stumble upon starfishes. I'd suggest you be careful inside the water, you might injure your feet and ankles. If you just want to take a photo of the bathing boxes and go on your way, it's a low probability that you can take good shots because of the crowds.

Free toilet ! Parking lot 6$/ hour. 18$/ all day until 8PM. Just around 30 slot for parking. There is the car selling ice cream and hot dog at the parking lot. This beach is worth for your time. I really enjoyed me time in here. The best for you.

A wonderful beach to enjoy the summer. The sea there isn’t rough. As per the name, the beach has a bunch of colorful bathing boxes which actually makes this a point of attraction. Worth a visit.

These beautiful boathouses fascinate me.Don't forget to wear a hat, sunscreen and drinking water in summer because too much light is very strong.

This is one of those iconic postcard Australia places. It gets quite busy with tourists but is still a very nice spot to do some photography. There are some good vantage points from up near beach road that gives you views of the beach, huts and the city in the background. Or you can get some cool shots from the beach with any of the different colourfully coloured beach boxes. It's also a good spot to do some drone photography with plenty of different perspectives.

There are many photo opportunities with colourful beach boxes on this beautiful beach. The beach is also an excellent spot to view the sunset and twilight. It is easy to park around here. Middle Brighton is the closest station if you are taking public transportation. Walking to the bathing boxes takes about 15 minutes from the station. I love the colours of the bathing boxes. As you look out at the city in the distance and the colorful boxes along the beach, it is easy to see why people have many photo opportunities.

Great tourist spot. Went super early in the morning to get some shots of the sunrise, and it did not disappoint. You have to sit on the beach and face the bathing boxes to see the sunrise behind them. I know this beach is good for a sunset but I wanted to see if it’s worth the hype for a sunrise. Very glad I managed to wake up early and go. Edit: second time coming and watched the sunset was great

Beautiful clean beach. The bathing boxes are a delightful sight but would be worth mentioning that they are not for the public. Good for a swim on a warm summer day. A bit crowded on holidays.

This is a great place to spend a few hours. The swimming is quite good, and there are some patches of reef if you enjoy snorkeling. The bathing boxes themselves are nice and generally well maintained. Overall, the place just had a nice atmosphere. There are lots of people taking photos, but everyone is happy.

Quite the sight to see, you gotta visit these bathing boxes on your trip to Melbourne! On a bright sunny day, the pictures are incredible. Even on a cloudy hazy day like mine, I still had a wonderful time walking through the beach and enjoying the sights. I’d love to come back during sunset or sunrise and take it all in.

Awesome view and little bathing houses. Very colourful🎨 Great to go early morning so you avoid the traffic if you’re staying in the city like we did and to avoid a lot of ppl at the place, specially if you’re there for the photos. Overall it’s great for the sunrise and the beach It’s pretty clean.

A Melbourne icon. If you go during the week in the middle of the day you can enjoy a casual stroll along the beach without battling the crowds of people popping by for a photo opportunity. Sunset over the bay is a good time to visit too. With the city visible in the distance and the brightly painted boxes stretching along the beach you can understand the enthusiasm for picture taking. It really is a beautiful part of Melbourne to take a stroll, pack a picnic lunch or just sit and enjoy.

Colourful and brightly decorated row of bath boxes or boat sheds lined up along the beach. Very instagrammable and nice to admire the individuality of each bath box. Free street parking a short walk from the beach. Fresh water taps to wash your feet located at the entry of the beach. Doesn’t look like a good beach for surfing as the surf was quite gentle but playing in the water is possible. No flags so I won’t recommend swimming and there are some sharp rocks in the water.

It's a normal ⛱️ beach except with very colourful bathing boxes for photo takings. Those who loves to take Instagram photos, this is a great place. You probably need 15 mins to enjoy the breeze and take pictures. Otherwise, there's nothing really exciting about.

Brighton Bathing Boxes are a unique and iconic feature along the sandy shores of Brighton Beach in Melbourne, Australia. These colorful wooden huts line the beachfront and have become a symbol of the area. The bathing boxes are a popular tourist attraction and are frequently photographed for their vibrant and eye-catching designs. Originally built in the 19th century as changing facilities for beachgoers, the bathing boxes have since evolved into small, individually owned beachside properties. They are primarily used by local residents as private storage spaces for beach equipment and a place to relax while enjoying the beach. Each bathing box is distinct, showcasing a variety of different colors, patterns, and decorations. Some owners have adorned their boxes with intricate artworks, murals, or personalized designs, making each one a unique and creative expression of the owner's taste. While the bathing boxes themselves cannot be rented or used for accommodation, they add charm and character to Brighton Beach, creating a picturesque scene against the backdrop of the blue ocean and golden sand. Visitors often take leisurely walks along the beach to admire and photograph these iconic structures, capturing the essence of the Brighton coastline.

Beautiful bathing boxes. Entry is free. However, i will not recommend to visit just this place if u are staying in the city centre. you can plan to go to places nearby like Lunar Park. I was on a day tour, this is a place given 20mins for sight seeing plus toilet break. toilet is at the far end of the left side.

Unique local bathing boxes on the beach. So colourful. Many tourist come to visit. It's free of charge. But please remember to respect local boxes. Honestly, a trip to Melbourne isn't complete without a visit to this place. Very touristy area indeed. But there are lots of designs of the bathing houses and you'll definitely find one you wanna take a picture with. Parking charges apply and make sure your ticket is displayed properly.

Beautiful sunset at Brighton Bathing Boxes. Watching the sunset is outstanding & other than those boxes nothing else there. Bathing Boxes stretched along Dendy Street Beach and they are all painted in different coolers and designs & definitely an attraction to see, mixing the beach, culture with art

  • 4/5 Tobias S. 4 years ago on Google
The bathing boxes look nice. The beach area is all right. The sand is slightly coarse, and the seabed has some larger stones. There is shallow water quite far out, and the water is very clear. Naturally a lot of people there because of the boxes. I would recommend seeing them because they are nice looking, but might recommend going to a beach further away for a nicer and less crowded beach. Worth a visit.

  • 5/5 Lindsey. M. 4 years ago on Google
The vibe is amazing!!! It wasn’t too busy during the week, but I think it’s a bad idea to go on the weekends. The water here is very clear and clean, as are the beaches! The boxes make for good photos, plus I’m pretty sure you can rent/buy them.

It’s a nice beach and the beach huts are colourful. Easy to get to from Melbourne on the train, and it’s a nice walk down to the beach although there is a really busy 4 lane road to cross. We arrived fairly early in the day and tour buses were already disgorging their clients, so I guess you have to time your visit if you want to avoid the masses.

The Bathing Boxes make a colourful scene as the sun sets. They are privately owned, with overly entitled owners who sometimes harass visitors. You can safely ignore them and go about your business, as Dendy Beach is a public beach, and one is entitled to enjoy at all times, swim, picnic and take photos.

Nice beach. Car park near the bathing boxes was closed / fenced off today, looks like some works being done. It is extremely windy when we went though, hence a good place for the kite / wind surfers. The beach bathing boxes are unique and makes a nice scenery and for photography.

What a wonderfull ,wide blue, clean , low crowded and calm & quite beach. The furbished rainbow cabin make this beach more attractive and give a traveler unique eye catching secnery compare to all other beaches in Victoria.I really enjoyed my family time on this beach.

Nice and beautiful! But Was hoping for the sands to be really clear and clean. I dont think it’s completely safe to walk barefoot. Weather was cold… coming from Sydney and were aiming to swim when we first arrive…. couldn’t have the chance this time!!

Clear water and fabulous view! Love the colourful bathing boxes. Highly recommend you to bring some thongs along as the sand has many shells and hard objects. A must-visit place here at Melbourne.

heard so much about them before seeing with my own eyes.. all very colourfully done up, some cuter than others.. take a slow leisurely walk together with the seagulls & discover which one's your favourite!! ^^

Such a beautiful place ! Must go place if you love beautiful beach photographers with colourful boxes on side. Lovely beach with long walk and kids friendly too.

Charming lovely and untouched unfortunately they’re going to start developing the beach but it’s beautiful at the moment and quiet and sweet

Cute design and bright colours | Don’t need to spend a lot of time here if you’re just visiting but there are quite a few to look at and take photos of. | There generally will always be a lot of tourists around | Obviously by the beach so you can also go for a dip if you desire.

Bright colours and beautiful designs. Went during fall and the weather was amazing. The beach it’s located on isn’t the biggest but there’s enough room for a short walk and swim. Carpark seems closed for reno at the moment so you might have to park along the surrounding streets and walk over. Highly recommend👌🏻

Super pretty background for photos ! Street parking is real expensive at $6 an hour though. Not sure how the cost of parking across the residential areas though. It’s not crowded at all on a weekday around noontime during winter. There isn’t really a queue, but occasionally you get people in the background of your shots.

Parking is under construction. Had to park further south. Pretty bathing boxes along the beach. Worth to visit earlier in the morning to avoid the crowd

Nice spot to see the sunset! Plenty of parking around. Even though this place is crowded, it has a nice vibe and there’s enough room for everyone to take photos of the sunset and of the bathing. As everywhere along the coast and beaches, it can get quite windy here, so consider that when you’re visiting! Sunset 💥💥💥💥💥

I went there by bike from Mel inner city. Yet alone the ride to get there is worth it - stunning scenery and a viewing point, where you can see Mel's skyline from afar. Topped off with these colourful sweet little bathing boxes at the end, before I returned.

Great sunny day at Brighton bathing boxes , gorgeous weather. These brightly coloured bath boxes make for great pictures , each numbered from 1-50+ . Some of my favourites are #2 (Auzzie colours), #8 and also #28 Very nice to just walk along the beach and enjoy the wind and take a few photos with friends and family Recommended !!

If you're in Melbourne, these bright bathing boxes of different colors are a true spectacle, its a photo opportunity which you simply cannot miss. We were there in Jan 2023 (peak of the summer), the parking spots were under renovation, so we had to park by the road side, went in for a good 20 mins and out before that as we were worried about the parking fines. The bathing boxes are so colorful, catch some good weather and blue skies to go along with your photos.

Beautiful place and it’s a tourist-must-go. Entire row of colourful bathing boxes, great for photos and good beach vibes. Even saw someone painting them during my trip.

Finally got to visit the iconic bathing boxes that I've been seeing on my social media feed over the years! Really neat place, super colorful and vibrant little shacks. We came during the winter time so there were no people around. Temps were around 9°C that day, so pretty bearable. Usual parking spots were closed so we had to park about 1km away and walk to the boxes. Nice little town to visit and you really must get some pictures with the bathing boxes!

    Great place for travelers and tourists to take photos and memories of their trip to Melbourne city. Who knows one or two of the photos could be your new profile picture for your social media accounts? (;

A quirky attraction with sooo much colour it makes you smile wide. The city skyline stands out here. We loved walking the beach and seeing the colour and murals that make this unique in Oz.

Nice photo opportunity, instagrammable. Come during sunset and it’s absolutely beautiful. There is some construction work on the path leading down to the boxes. We rode a Lime Bike from St Kilda but it leaves the bike zone and the power cuts out.

We took a train from Flinders Station heading to Sandringham. Then we got down at the Brighton Beach Station. Proceed to walk around 10 mins until you encounter this Shrine of Remembrance, then you’ll arrive 😀 worth visiting and the weather was really amazing that day. And the walk back to the train, you will pass by this amazing neighbourhood 😍

Awesome beach, love the bright coloured public shower boxes. It's getting an upgrade. Hopefully I'll visit next year again.

Another Melbourne’s must visit site. For better photo shot, I’d recommend to plan your visit either in the morning or an hour or two before sunset

Cute spot, recommend going in the morning if it is summertime as the boxes create a nice shadow to help beat the heat. Further up the beach there are lovely views of the Melbourne skyline.

This is a cute place to come and see the Bathing Boxes. Originally built in the 19th century, these iconic structures serve as beach huts and are strictly for storage and changing, rather than for accommodation.

Instagram-worthy place for photography only. Trekked 7km from ST Kilda esplanade during summer. The beach view is fantastic all the way down to Brighton bathing boxes and weather is not too hot, only downside is a lot of flies hitching ride from our back. 🤣
