One of the best dog beaches in the area! The water is typically great, and the depending on the time of the year, the off leash dog beach extends all the way towards Mordialloc! Sometimes the water can get a bit fully of seaweed and other debris (particularly after a storm), but is generally okay. Beach is quite large and great for dog socialisation.

πŸ”†When there’s not many options for dog friendly beaches. πŸ”…This has to be the most busiest and nicest beach on the southeasterly side of Melbourne. πŸ”†Highly recommend to take your doggo

Good dog beach. Lots of well behaved puppers running around and having fun, all the people I have encountered so far were friendly too :-) Only downside is the big amount of seaweed washed up on the shore being smelly but oh well.

Quiet and shallow water, clean beach, plenty of space and sand for dogs to freely play around, and oh... So many dogs. If you have a dog, this one is a must. There are also toilets, drinking water, benches at the top, and a terrific terrace overlooking the sea.

All year 24 hour off leash dog beach from the western part of Mentone beach which runs for 500m between Charman Road and Plummer Road. The eastern part of the beach has more complicated access rules which will make your head spin, but there is plenty of room at the western end. It's a popular place with lots of dogs and owners enjoying the beach. There are facilities such as bins, water tap and toilets at the Mentone Life Saving Club where there is a car park. There is short wall running along the back of the beach which is handy to keep dogs within the beach area. Copied from Melbourne Playgrounds website.

Fantastic spot for families with dogs, the beach isn't as nice as a bit further down towards Chelsea beach, but for what it is, a 24/7 pet friendly paradise, it's pretty good. Shallow water and sand banks allowed my smaller breed of dog to enjoy the water and sand, he enjoyed being isolated from the bigger dogs who play amongst the waves. More parking world be good though, on a warm day this place is crawling with people and dogs.

Perfectly place to spend and some outdoors activities. Nicely organized park area which can be use for a BBQ friendly meal or dinner!!! In fact, the artists Tom Roberts and Frederick McCubbin first met Arthur Streeton at the summer of 1886s there.

Such a perfect spot for dogs to run around and swim. Water is super shallow, clean and most importantly safe to swim in. Large size of the beach that is off-lead all year so no need to worry about which part of the year is okay to bring your dogs. Overall myself and my dog really enjoy this spot. If there was anything negative I'd only say lack of shade on the sand and no shower to rise off when leaving, Also a drinking fountain would be much suited close by the beach not by the carpark.

Nice beach but an old lady with no dogs told me off because someone elses smaller dog barked at my German Shepherd (she was sniffing the pee) and the fossilised dogless witch found issue with it because apparently I wasn't controlling her... from sniffing some pee. Otherwise a cool beach, but don't be afraid to tell her to go away

Great beach for dog walking. Long sandy beach, quite shallow for dog swimming, heaps of dogs around for playing. Public toilets at the car park and surf club. Our dog loves coming here!

Nice and quiet stretch of beach, most likely because I was here at 5pm, as most people may be still at work. Nevertheless, a nice quiet place with nice views from the look out by the road.

Good beach for dogs and shallow water swimming. Would be excellent if it is bit less dirty and with shower facilities.

There is a water tap and bowl for dogs to drink, bins, toilets and the water is nice calm and shallow perfect for doggy swimming. There isn't enough parking so be ready to walk and the entrance from sand to water is gross. The gross cross into the water, little parking and lack of tap/shower to rinse off yourself or your dog are the main downsides.

A beautiful part of the bay with views of wind sculpted red sandstone? Cliffs from this dog beach. Great if your dog enjoys a swim other wise it's not much of a walk as the dog section is quite short so be sure to check the signs to ensure you remain within the off leash section.

Lovely long stretch of beach where my dog and I enjoy very decent walks up and down the sand. I usually park in a side street and cross the road. Water facilities are up the stairs in the car park area. I feel that it's a safe and secure beach with lots of space for everyone.

Amazing views. Lovely beach with plenty of open spaces to walk. A beach hut is located near the peer where you can camp inside. There's a rocky mountain that you can climb. Also a park is located near the car park. Free council wifi is also reachable. There was a couple of bbq ovens and a play area for kids as well. Overall nice beach with all the amenities you need for a picnic.

Plenty of beach for the dog to run to her heart's content (particularly when the tide is out) , meet other dogs and generally have a good time. Nice to meet other friendly dog owners too while the dogs meet and greet.

The dog friendly area isn't that large, and there's often a lot of seaweed, it can get a bit dirtier than some other dog friendly beaches nearby like Brighton or Chelsea.

  • 4/5 Emma van W. 3 years ago on Google
Very nice place to take your dogs! The dogs are very friendly and it is a great place for your dogs to get their paws wet. The only downside is that there is a lot of litter on the beach. There can also be dead pufferfish lying around. Overall this place is recommended to go to.

A great day here.. Friendly dogs and owners. Plenty of parking in side streets. Toilets are ok. Tap water for humans and dogs near the car park. A short but steep walk to get to the beach. Well worth the 50 minute drive especially on a beautiful 22 degrees day in Melbourne.

Nice place, paid parking right on the top. Near the car park, you can find the dog water fountain. Although it’s a dog beach, it is very close to β€˜human’ beach, kids can be running up and down.

This was our first trip to a dog beach with our two dogs. There was a lot of seaweed and rubbish washed up on the beach. Looks rather dirty. After looking at all the beautiful photos on Google maps I was disappointed to arrive to the mess. Our dogs still loved going in for a play in the water and meeting lots of other well behaved dogs!

Friendly beach for the dogs as well as others. Be mindful of the nature of the beach and try not to set-up yourself near the water as puppies will be your visit.

When it's a nice day, parking can be really hard to find in this area, even paid parking can be a miss. I spent, no joke, at least 20 minutes trying to find a park. I didn't want somewhere super far away because when it's hot, I don't want my dogs walking on hot pavement for too long. It has a tap/water fountain for the dogs at the entrance of the dog friendly portion before you go down to the beach. There can be a ton of dogs but it's a really nice area to bring your dogs for a frolic in the water.

Small amount of parking. There are public toilets but they are a bit dodgy. Access to beach via a fairly steep but smooth paved ramp. Beach is quite good. Usually lots of happy dogs and friendly people.

Omg stinks so bad, the water is seriously polluted after a storm, seaweed is everywhere and definitely does not feel or look safe to be swimming in with your dog. However the beach is not always like this but the seaweed rarely disappears back into the ocean anymore and is always there especially in the very corner of the beach
