Dog Friendly Beach Sandringham Harbour

Beach

๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ Best dog beach in the area. Much cleaner than Brighton and I feel more comfortable getting in (to my calves) with my dog because of this. So many friends and lots of parking! Itโ€™s always a great day when we go to the doggy beach. People often mention beach, dogs, Great, water, walk, area, Melbourne, good, nice, great,

Amazing experience, great place for a play and with a dog friendly cafe, the water isn't deep at all... But not to take away from the place there was one Karen with a poodle that kept on going off about our 'dangerous' our dog was and how she felt 'unsafe' about our puppy, but must of forgot where she was. It was a laugh and just remember to tell them to go away xx

Stunning dog beach, even better when you have good weather! Our dogs loved a good swim, stick throwing and generally going crazy with other dogs in the area. Plenty of space on the beach for a good run around. Would definitely recommend. Parking can be expensive however!

Me and my family love to bring our dogs here as it's super dog friendly and generally pretty clean and quiet which is nice. We brought our family dog here for his last beach trip as he's quite sick and won't be able to do it anymore and was really lovely. It was a pretty overcast day when I went there last but was still such a nice place to hang out

Calm, neat, not crowded, serene and beautiful! All the characteristics one would like in a peaceful sun sunset viewing beach .. very close to the Hampton station as well .. one of the best sunsets I have seen so far and a slightly elevated top creates a good viewing spot too. . Must visit on a good day ๐Ÿ˜Š

Nice place to take your dog friend for a walk. People there feels quite relaxed, you can walk your dog unleashed. Recommend to go after 8 in a summer day, as the parking there is quite expensive. Plus you can enjoy the sunset around that time.

Underrated, under reported. Get down here, one of the flattest, quietest, nicest inner city beaches in the area.

This beach is off leash all year round. There is a 750m long section of sand and shallow water which is great for dogs whether they like running along the beach, having a swim or a wade through the shallows. There are bins in the area and a track from the pier leads to toilets, water tap with dog bowl and the Sandy Beach kiosk. There are a number of paths down to the beach. Jetty Road leads to several car parks at the Hampton Pier end which have paid parking (8am - 8pm). There is also a carpark on the north side of Trevor Barker oval. A few tracks lead down from Beach Road. Parking next to the beach is expensive but it is possible to find some free parking if you are willing to walk a bit. Copied from Melbourne Playgrounds website.

Sandridge Beach is the last beach before you hit the Port of Melbourne, situated in Hobson's Bay [Port Phillip Bay]. New Beach is next door and after that Port Melbourne Beach, plus Princes and Station Piers respectively. Port Melbourne Beach was formerly labelled Sandridge Beach but changed its name. The name 'Sandridge' goes back to 1839 because this area used to be full of dunes/ridges. The beach is in the form of a crescent, with a promenade along the length of it. There are plenty of places to sit, and trees protect the foreshore, so the wind factor is lessened. The water is relatively shallow, but there is much seaweed, and with the shipping channels nearby it would be a personal choice in regards to swimming here. The beaches here get cleaned regularly and surfaces trowled to clear any dangerous objects in the sand. There is a kiosk connected to the newish Life-Saving Club, where you can buy snacks, get changed and there is a car park. There is parking along the road free or pay station - be sure to check the signs. It is a safe and popular place for kayaking, bike riding and other exercises. Quite a few people go fishing off the stone piers/lookouts. These lookouts are a stand out of this beach and give excellent panoramic views of the areaโ€”worth a visit.

This beach is extremely nice!! Especially in winter before the dog restrictions, itโ€™s literally a whole stretch of off leash fun with all sorts of different terrain to explore. Love it so much ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ•

Fantastic dog beach with walking tracks close by and a conveniently located cafe on site. Drive right down the access road until it ends. The beach is located a short 50 meter walk. Parking is payable before 8pm, so be prepared as parking officers do patrol area.

Wonderful dog beach sectioned off in its own area. Has public toilets, dog water taps and bowls, picnic benches, parking and grass area. There is also a kiosk to purchase snacks from - it has it all. Plus it is picturesque right next to Sandringham Yacht Club.

Great for all dog lovers. It is really shallow at low tide, so all the canine friends, and two legged ones, can have a blast splashing about. The best part though, is to watch the sunset in winter. The absolute best view around this part of the bay, for sure!

Really great beach, water is always spotlessly clean and quite calm as itโ€™s well protected by a number of rock walls and the pier/breakwater. Great spot to bring the dog to run around as the water is nice n shallow, or have a swim yourself in the clear water. We especially like the northern end! Good facilities close by a the Hampton life saving club and plenty of free parking around if you look.

  • 2/5 Pam R. 3 years ago on Google
Not the best beach but it's quiet, it's on an industrial area so there's restrictions for water activities

  • 4/5 Stef H. 5 years ago on Google
Nice spacious beach. Lots of shallow water to wade through. Bins for dog poo. No dog poo bags available though. There's a little shower and dog bowl for water at the showers next to a little cafe. One section of the beach next to the pier has a very stinky seaweed muck dark brown sand otherwise the rest of the beach is lovely. Most dogs are off lead. Most owners are in control of their dogs. Haven't seen any real dog fights or issues there which I think is partly due to how much space there is for dogs to get away from each other if needed.

  • 4/5 As Y. 3 years ago on Google
It is somewhat of a quieter beach in the area. Not bad but it does not have many amenities compared to Port Melbourne, South Melbourne or St Kilda. However, there is a nice playground next to it in the Reserve. The location next to the Docks may not be to everyone's taste. Parking is not too hard to find. Public Transport connections are somewhat poor however. Quickest way from the CBD would be to take a 109 Tram to Port Melbourne and switch to a 236 Bus.

If I am in Bayside city council, I prefer this dog beach because it's very accessible. The car park is a short walk to the foreshore, toilets, water, dog bags, kiosk, making it a very convenient time out with the dogs. The beach in itself is a long stretch of shallow water, perfect for zoomies and kids to paddle in. However, in some areas the water quickly dips in and is deep quickly, so can be dangerous for humans, but perfect for swimming dogs. The area can be a bit smelly. Nice locals and respectful dog owners. There's a small pier, ok access for wheelchair or 4 wheel walker. We walked an elderly 4 wheel walker on the pier then down onto the hard wet sand, then pushed the walker near the water, it was ok. Once a month there's the Bayside Famers Market on, it gets very busy very quickly making it difficult to find carpark, and can be quite noisy for a nervous pup. Parking per hour is $5.70, unless you park in near by streets and walk down, but it's a fair walk. The Sandy kiosk sells meat pies, breakfast, teas coffee's, unfortunately no fish and chips. The kiosk is attached to a surf hire/schoool, which usually park their canoes on the sand at the foreshore, but still plenty of space for doggies to run around. Plenty of access to water, and outside shower to wash dog, humans or feet afterwards. Toilets/bathroom are new and quite clean condition.

  • 3/5 Stephen C. 5 years ago on Google
Great for dogs, but pretty average for people. The issue is that a large number of dog owners that frequent the area fail to clean up after their pups. There is a miasma of canine feces in the air at times... If you chance upon a day when there hasn't been a lot of fresh "activity", it's a beautiful beach with millpond smooth conditions perfect for kayaking and SUPing.
