Love St Kilda Pier With romantic views of the bay and city, the historical and iconic St Kilda Pier is a beautiful and relaxing place. It's a great location for walking, with or without the pooch, taking the baby for a stroll, jogging, bicycle riding, dining, fishing and sailing, and even watching Little Blue fairy penguins in their natural habitat. You'll also see all kinds of water activities here and it's a perfect location for taking photographs. Highly recommended.

Fantastic place to catch the sunset, get views of the city, and spot some penguins! Note that the actual penguin viewing area further down is closed as of the time of this review.

My favourite place to watch the sunrise in Melbourne, at present they are doing major maintenance and repairs so you can't get past the old ice-cream parlour so you don't get the full effect, If you can wait until the construction is finished to experience this time of day down here then I would advise you to wait.

While I was here it was under construction but overall it’s a good place to be. Smells stinky, that can be improved.

St Kilda Pier is undeniably one of the most beautiful places to visit in Melbourne. The beauty of the sea and the distant city view create a captivating atmosphere. There's a myriad of activities happening around the area, making it a must-visit spot in Melbourne that you shouldn't miss.

I have been coming to this Pier in St Kilda since I was 12. It's very safe to walk along the pier, just make sure you have a jacket as it can get very windy and cool at times. It's also the best place to go fishing in Melbourne. I usually come here with my dad to catch silver breams. 😁

Excellent views of windsurfers, lots of fishermen with fresh catch, lots of yachties and a brand new pier nearing completion. Penguins can be viewed at night and parachutists are regular nearby drop zone.

If you enjoy beaches then you will enjoy St. Kilda Pier. This pier reminded me a little bit of Huntington Beach Pier, but instead of surfers there are cute little blue penguins hiding beneath rocks - if you are lucky to spot any. We also saw a large jellyfish and a water rat. The pier is a nice walk and provides a great landscape of Melbourne. You may catch people kite surfing or school groups learning to kayak near the marina. There is a restaurant on the pier for hungry or thirsty visitors.

Saw some penguins in between the rocks, as a tourist I did not know this is what the pier or surrounding area was known for. Parking was reasonable and the scenery was nice. Water was calm with not many waves, cafe looked busy and the pier was a long walk, only the cafe and penguins there to look at. Would recommend as outside a zoo or aquarium you don't see penguins often.

An amazingly local place to see the penguins with views of the CBD in the background. Plenty of boats in the harbour for some stunning photos with the skyline in the background. Great for sunsets, although can get very busy when the penguins arrive. Difficult to get a good viewpoint, but you can see the penguins almost everywhere and there's a few guides providing interesting information on the penguins. Parking is challenging and you typically have to pay.

OLD WORLD CHARM OFFERING SPECTACULAR VIEWS BACK TO THE BEACH AND CITY SKYLINE St Kilda Pier is one of those things you have to "do" when visiting the suburb. A decent walk directly out to sea along an old pier. On the walk out you'll pass people fishing from the pier edge, the boarding point for sea ferries, numerous little platforms that jut out to give you great photo opportunities and finally the old kiosk at the end of pier where you can stop for a bite and / or drink before heading back to the beach. Its a flat, level walk so people with mobility issues will be OK (although its a good ten minute walk from the beach to the end of the pier). Wheelchairs will be a bit bumpy but OK. A new pier in in planning that promises a better experience and a more disability-friendly design.

One of the more interesting things to do in St.Kilda. It’s a nice long walk and you can come here to take the ferry to Williamstown or Port Melbourne. Offers excellent views from the city skyline, Luna Park and the coastline to Port Melbourne. Close by to Fitzroy St which is handy if you want a bite to eat. Also Stenhouse Reserve is there to explore.

Great place to visit for a leisurely walk on a early morning, sunny day or even to enjoy the sun setting. There is a place to get food, drinks or an ice cream at the end of the peir. You may get to see fisherman along your walk aswell as penguins at the end of the peir, around sunset, at the viewing area behind the kiosk. Great spot for photos and enjoying the sea breeze.

It was first built in 1853 as a small private timber jetty by the St Kilda Pier and Jetty company, but destroyed the same year, and rebuilt by 1855 as a public pier. It was extended many times, until it became a 1944 ft pier with stone groins. A shelter at the beach end, a breakwater and an L shaped extension sheltering the St Kilda Yacht Club by the 1880s.

Construction is underway for wild animal penguins, so it was hard to see them and I could hear them. Even if it's not a penguin, it's a place where you can heal just by being exposed to the sea breeze. Above all, a place with beautiful sunset.

Flown down from WA and currently Half of the pier is completely closed, you can’t really even walk it because only one side is visible and the other is complete construction. Can’t go down to see the penguins and the coffee shop isn’t open either blocked off by big walls due to the construction. Looks like it’s going to be amazing when it’s done! But virtually nothing to see/do on their at the moment, what a shame

St Kilda Pier: Where Adventure Meets Serenity! ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5) Prepare to embark on a thrilling journey as you step foot onto the iconic St Kilda Pier in Melbourne. The moment you set your eyes on the shimmering waters of Port Phillip Bay, a rush of excitement courses through your veins, promising an unforgettable experience ahead. As you stroll along the wooden planks of the pier, the rhythmic sound of waves crashing against the pylons fills the air, creating a symphony that harmonizes with the beat of your heart. The salty breeze brushes against your cheeks, carrying with it the scents of the sea—a tantalizing blend of ocean mist and freshly caught fish. Gazing out into the vast expanse of blue, you're captivated by the sight of sailboats gracefully gliding across the water, their colorful sails billowing in the wind. The lively chatter of seagulls overhead adds to the symphony of sounds, as if they're welcoming you to their seaside sanctuary. Your eyes are drawn to the distant horizon, where the sky meets the water in a breathtaking display of colors—brilliant hues of orange, pink, and purple that paint the canvas of the heavens. The golden sun begins its descent, casting a warm glow that illuminates the surroundings and creates an ethereal ambiance. As you continue your journey towards the end of the pier, a sense of anticipation builds within you. You catch a glimpse of the famous St Kilda Breakwater, its rugged rocks teeming with life. Curious penguins waddle along the shore, adding a touch of whimsy to the coastal landscape. It's a magical sight that reminds you of the wonders that lie beneath the surface of the sea. Reaching the end of the pier, you find yourself surrounded by a panoramic view that stretches as far as the eye can see. The city skyline of Melbourne stands tall in the distance, a testament to the harmonious coexistence of urban and natural beauty. The vibrant colors of Luna Park's iconic Ferris wheel catch your attention, hinting at the thrills and laughter that await just a stone's throw away. As you take a moment to soak in the atmosphere, a sense of tranquility washes over you. The peacefulness of the surroundings creates a sanctuary away from the bustling city, allowing you to connect with nature and find solace in its embrace. St Kilda Pier is not just a destination—it's an invitation to embrace adventure, indulge in serenity, and experience the true essence of Melbourne's coastal charm. So, fellow adventurers, I implore you to set foot on this mesmerizing pier, where excitement meets tranquility, and unforgettable memories are waiting to be made. It's a place where dreams come alive, and the wonders of the sea and sky are yours to explore.

I only gave 3 stars to let you know that the full pier, including the Little Penguin colony , is closed for renovations. The new structure will protect the penguins from people and their dogs, thanks to people being ignorant. With the pier being closed, this year’s chicks are growing faster than what has occurred!

There’s a cute little restaurant/cafe at the end of the pier but it was closed for the holidays when we went. You can read about the history of the building and the pier. And there’s cute little penguins (that’s what they’re called “little penguins”) that live in the rocks. Please make sure to be courteous of the little guys and clean up your trash! It’s a beautiful place for a walk or a romantic date!

Went for a nice walk along the foreshore and the pier. Was pleasantly surprised to discover that at the end of the pier is a penguin colony!!! There was even a penguin visible during the day, that was stuck on the rocks and it was undergoing its yearly moult. Information about the penguins was well signed.

A visit to St Kilda Beach and the Pier is a nice getaway from the crowded city centre. You can spot some penguins here during sunset. Even during summer it gets chilly at night so bring a wind breaker with you. If you have time then you can also play beach volleyball. There are some small places to eat and some pubs in the area.

A cool place to visit anytime of the year to relax or walk, ride or jog along the many trails running along the Bay Trail. some great places to stop to eat and fish and chips also close by at the shop at the end of the pier, it was welcoming and a different spot to sit and eat from the norm out on the water. The penguin walk is closed currently but still the food is awesome. I spent about 30mins out on the pier with take away from the restaurant with cafe pricing.

The pier is seriously neglected. Huge pits in the concrete where its just eroding away. Picked up 3 discarded fishermans line and hooks! Poor form. Id love to find the culprits, stab the dirty rusty hooks through their cheeks and into their foot then order them to serve community service hours patching the delapidated pier ?????????

Compare this to the penguin seeing on Philips island, this is more accessible. The sunset about 5.15 ish, u will be seeing the little guys from that time onwards to 7plus to 8. Be quiet. Don’t scare them. I was once there around 7plus. It’s dark, but I can still see them. One good thing about this late timing is that, it was less crowded.

If you play ingress, this is a great portal. Until the construction is done, it's a pier.

Had a great time walking about St Kilda Pier during the golden hour period. If not for the clouds, it would've been a killer view! Wife took me here on her friend's recommendation & definitely worth a walkabout! 10/10 would recommend 👍 👍

It is a popular place for fishing. The wind blows cool and comfortable. Take a walk, but now some parts are closed for renovation.

Lovely place to watch sun rises and sun sets. Quite hard to see penguins, bcz they are small and it is dark, but it worths it, better than see them in a zoo

Stand Up Paddle Boarding HQ operate there right on Pier Road, in front of the Royal Melbourne Yacht Club, so you can hire a board and all...

😠 It's closed. No access. It's a construction site, with no way to walk to the pier & the penguins.
