Two of us came to Chesterfield Farm on a Saturday. We arrived at around midday. We had pre-purchased the tickets as advised on their website, so the check-in process was very efficient. First, we went to pet the small farm animals including lambs, rabbits, Guinea pigs, calf and dogs. Unfortunately you are not allowed to feed or pick up these animals, but you can still look at them and pat them. After that, we watched the sheepdog demonstration at 1pm where they showed the dog rounding up sheep. That was really interesting, as I’d only ever seen this on TV. Then we toured the rest of Chesterfield Farm, and got to see various farm animals including ostriches, camels, kangaroos, fellow deer, red deer, ducks, pigs, peacocks, goats and more. As we walked through this section of the farm, we hand-fed the animals with the animal feed purchased at the front entrance. We had a very fun time, and I would highly recommend visiting this farm. It is suitable for all ages. I am a young adult and I loved it. But I think kids will love it just as much!

We had a wonderful time at the farm. The animals were very gentle and they seemed accustomed to people feeding them. It would be great if the feed bag was in a bigger portion or cheaper, as one small bag will not be enough to feed them. The tractor ride was quite fun for children too. There was a nice sand pit for kids to play in and it had some toy vehicles inside for kids too. It would be really helpful if there are clearer signage to tell us where are the various animals and the animals’ names too.

I recently visited Chesterfield Farm with my family and had a wonderful time. The farm was well-maintained and had a wide variety of animals that we were able to see up close. The staff was friendly and informative, providing us with interesting facts about the animals and answering all of our questions. The farm also had a playground and a picnic area, which was great for the kids. They also had a small shop where we were able to buy fresh eggs and other products from the farm. The highlight of our visit was the animal feeding time. We got to feed the sheep, cows, alpacas and other animals which was really fun. Overall, we had a great experience at Chesterfield Farm. It's a perfect place for families with young children to visit and learn about farm life. I highly recommend this farm to anyone looking for a fun, educational day out.

Absolute disgusting place and someone need to teach the management how to communicate with people. Don't waste your time here. Response to the message from Owner. Hi there, Thanks for replying back You are correct in saying that the farm is closed. However Jells park walking tracks run parallel to the farm entrance and us locals usually stop here to look at the grazing animals and relax after exercising At around 11.45am I parked my car near to the entrance( Parked on the grass to the side of the entrance path) to take a breather and enjoy the scenery. However, one of the farm trucks stopped next to me and asked what i was doing and why i've parked the car on the grass. (Note- there were few other vehicles parked few meters away from me on the same patch of grass on the side path. ) I told the truck driver that i was looking at the animals and will leave in few min. However this driver who claim to be the owner (Hope not!)of the farm said i am going to leave tire tracks on the grass ( Outside the entrace ) and said this is his property and get the F**k out! I'm a regular visitor here and to have someone speak this way is frankly appalling! I will be sharing this experience with my family and friends. Regards, Marlon

Not impressed with this place. It needs a good clean. The animals conditions are not good at all. The one cockatoos cage was disgusting. It did not have enough room to spread its wings. The poor dogs in the nursery had been up all night guarding the sheep, they need rest. Not being in a busy place being disturbed. Near double the price of collingwood farm yet no where near as good. Such a shame as the area needs a place like this, but not at the detriment of the animals welfare.

Excellent morning spent. Perfect for toddlers, plenty of animals to see, areas close together & more shade than I expect. Amenities are fine, shop & takeaway food as expect, minimal but ok. I suggest parking in shade, buy 2 packs of feed & pack a lunch if kids won't eat nuggets & chips! Covid-19 friendly & plenty of room to move around without bumping into people.

I would give a higher rating if they weren’t keeping a cockatoo in a tiny cage. What’s the point? There’s cockatoos flying around anyway for anyone to see, this is pure cruelty. There were also other birds kept in a cage in a dark nursery. Nobody was watching them anyway cause everyone was focused on baby animals. Please do something about it, it’s XXI century.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Chesterfield Farm, and I must say it exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I stepped onto the property, I was captivated by the charm and warmth that this farm exudes. The first thing that struck me was the picturesque setting. Chesterfield Farm boasts sprawling green fields, charming barns, and a peaceful atmosphere that transports you away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It's the perfect escape for anyone looking to reconnect with nature and enjoy a tranquil day in the countryside. The variety of activities available at Chesterfield Farm is impressive. Whether you're interested in petting adorable farm animals, taking a scenic hayride, or trying your hand at traditional farm chores, there's something for everyone. The staff is not only knowledgeable but also genuinely passionate about their work, creating an engaging and educational experience for visitors of all ages. One highlight of my visit was the interactive demonstrations. From milking cows to shearing sheep, the hands-on activities allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of farm life. It's clear that Chesterfield Farm is committed to preserving agricultural traditions and sharing them with the community. The on-site cafe is another gem at Chesterfield Farm. The farm-to-table concept ensures that the food is not only delicious but also sourced locally, adding an extra layer of authenticity to the overall experience. I highly recommend trying the fresh produce and homemade treats—they're a true delight for the taste buds. The attention to detail and commitment to providing a top-notch visitor experience make Chesterfield Farm stand out. Whether you're visiting with family, friends, or even on your own, this charming farm offers a welcoming and memorable day out. I left Chesterfield Farm with a renewed appreciation for agriculture and a heart full of wonderful memories. I can't wait to return and explore more of what this fantastic farm has to offer. Highly recommended!

Visited here on Easter Monday with our almost 15 month old daughter. She had a great time seeing and watching me feed the animals. Also did the tractor ride too which was a good way of seeing the animal locations. Highlight of the visit was the escaped sheep running around that tried to run off with my mum’s hat. We are planning to visit again once our daughter is a bit older and can take more in.

Move over Bundoora farm and Collingwood Children’s farm, this place takes the cake! I seriously have no idea how I haven’t heard of this place before but mark my words i’m going to tell everyone under the sun about this place. A beautiful property with a large range of animals that you can hand feed. They even some reptiles. The animals were so friendly with little kids and look very well looked after. We spent 3 hours and didnt even get to spend time in all of the areas. I could definitely have spent more hours here and plan on coming back again soon! Unlike all the other farms in Melbourne which are packed out with kids and you have to take turns feeding and are constantly rubbing shoulders with others, there were only a handful of people here so it felt like we had the entire farm to ourselves! The tractor ride was really fun. Shout out to Emily - fantastic hard worker, funny, informative, great with kids.

Definitely one to do on a family day out. Here you get to pat and feed the farm animals, go on tractor rides and watch the shep dog round up the sheep 🐑. Side note; you can only get tickets online

Went with my 2.5 year old and had a really good day. She loved the animals and being up close to them outside feeding them and could’ve stayed there all day. We went to the sheepdog show and that was pretty good, except for the fact that it was pretty hard to hear what was being said. The nursery part was ok - there wasn’t much to it. We found the selection of foods at the cafe fine, nice area to sit, just a really small area that probably could’ve had another staff member. Overall i would recommend for a family day out

Probably a good place to visit, probably a great owner but not so nice staff at front, either not well trained or simply under paid teenagers? Asked the staff at counter b4 purchasing a ticket" how are you doing today? just dead silence, then awkwardly proceeded with purchasing then been told you will need purchase tickets online first. fair enough with COVID situation but seriously why don't you simply put a big sign outside the gate before people queuing up? What a waste of time!

Visited with my bub, and had a good time! Bub enjoyed the tractor ride and patting some of the animals (mostly bunnies, calves, etc) in the nursery area. If you are visiting during the X'mas break, take lunch - in addition to the snacks - as the visit would most likely take more than a few hours and you wouldn't have many lunch options except for some pies.

Visited Chesterfield farm recently and our lil one enjoyed his farm experience with the animals. He loved seeing and feeding the animals at the farm. The shows are on hold due to COVID restrictions but still a good spot to spend 2-3 hours especially for kids and adults as well if like farm animals.

Nice little farm. Actually, this is the farm that has the most show/feeding activities that I had visited. Many other farms have just a tractor ride, that’s it. The staff are always smiling. Very welcoming and friendly. There’s a Camel, seldom see it at other farms.

Chesterfield Farm is always a great day out with the kids. The petting area is good fun, although it does need to be monitored more often from staff. It would be great if there were more shaded areas available, especially down the bottom area. It's a long way for little ones, and completely exposed to the sun.

Whilst the kids appreciated the animals I would have liked to of seen the community garden growing veggies instead of weeds and discarded aviaries and feeding trophs disposed of properly. I feel like the place needs a working bee. The loose gravel is hard to push prams through also.

The good things are that they have lots of different animals all pretty close together and cool shows. The cons are that you pay a lot of money and rides are extra on top of that, so be prepared to spend. Only come in mornings when there are shows so that you can get your money’s worth. Found the staff to be not so kind and abrupt when I called to inquire about the place.

  • 5/5 Maggiemay “MMPh” P. 1 year ago on Google
Take a picnic or enjoy food from the cafe. Feed for the amazing collection of animals is available from the cafe and is a must as you walk with your little ones. Most animals are penned except for a few hen-pecked hens :-) A delightful time to be had by all.

This was a fantastic place to take the kids (mine are 4 and 2) on the weekend. So many different animals to feed/touch and a fun tractor ride around the paddocks. The shows are short and sweet which is great when you have toddlers that don’t like to sit for very long. We saw a cow milking show and a dog show which my 4 year old son is still talking about. The staff were also very friendly and approachable. The only down side is there is not much shade once your out in the paddocks. However if you Slip slop slap and avoid the hot days you’ll be fine. I will definitely be returning with my children.

Enjoyable experience. Up close and personal with goats, sheep, camels, kangaroos, one horse, calf’s, pigs, a cockatoo or two, native birds, emus, bunnies, llamas, lizard, dogs, deer, ginger (the jersey cow) had just given birth so we got to meet her baby “Dora” and see Ginger and another cow be milked. Tractor rides. A beautiful peacock. Self directed learning with the exception of milking and if you’re able to find someone around the enclosure/s. Plenty of space to eat, drink and socialise outdoors. Cafe, ample parking. This is a realistic view on farming culture. Its not an “all day” experience and something I don’t think would be as enjoyable if the weather was bad, the steam museum across the road and 1000 steps down the road are other places you could check out to fill in the rest of the day.

  • 3/5 Katherine E. 7 months ago on Google
Nice family day out, however a bit limited in things to do. Also some enclosures are a bit questionable. I felt a bit sorry for the horse that didn’t move and was all alone behind an electric fence. Not sure if that’s just the norm or not.

Yes to all other reviews how great it is when not in lockdown. However even during lockdown(if in km zone) is well worth visiting the shop - their own milk and cheeses are healthier than supermarket and the real natural taste of the milk is well worth buying. The free range eggs come from another farm and you can view(online) the hens running around. Very entertaining. Have often received double yolks!

Animals poorly looked after. Sheep still not shorn in late summer, very little/ no shade for any of the animals in the paddocks. Extremely small bird enclosures, no room to fly , very, very poor conditions. To be honest I was amazed that this place is allowed to open. The cups from the cafe are recyclable but there are no recycling facilities. I could say more re cost and value (or lack of) for money, but my main concern is the lack of proper care for the animals. I come from the UK and was expecting the standards I’m used to seeing, but what I saw was more reminiscent of an Asian culture. Very, very poor
