Buzzling little coffee shop catering to the lovely people in the community. The coffee was amazing. Perfect takeaway for a morning walk or sit in the small park.

They are the best cafe in town. New owners are just as lovely and just as good :) 5stars. (To the person who gave it 1 star there are literally signs saying to order at the counter. The menu is displayed on a huge board out the front).

After crate has been sold in 2023, the new service and food have gone exponentially down hill. It takes exceptionally long for take away coffees to be made, there is often missed orders and the expectation to come and collect your take away coffee from inside, while you have toddlers sitting down is not a great experience (ie it’s a lot of effort to get the kids and take them inside to get the coffees, but you can’t leave them outside as the seating is next to a busy road). Food offerings have gone completely down hill. The other day the offering of sweet muffins included chocolate and pea (yes in the same muffin) and other weird flavour combinations have been concocted over the past few weeks. It’s as if they are just throwing in plate scraps from previous customers to the muffin mixture. Cost has risen dramatically. For a home made cinnamon donut, the cost used to be 3.50. Now they are circa $6.5 (EACH) and it’s clear the size has shrunk also. I understand inflation, but this is ludicrous! As a local resident, I am so disappointed that my local cafe has been completely changed for the worse. I miss Bea! And the old staff!

Can’t fault this place. It’s like going to your friends house for breakfast. Food is great. The chef got the kids helping in the kitchen. It was a life line when I had a new born. Dog friendly as well.

Dropped by Crate last weekend after a bit of a break, the coffee here has always been top-notch. I was amazed by the new dishes that recently added to the menu. We had the big brekkie and salmon bowl, which were really delicious, the flavors were on point, and we got to savor them with some lovely weather. One thing I've dug about Crate is the variety in their menu. If you're into trying new stuff, this is your spot. They've got the classics and some inventive dishes. The staff was super friendly and on the ball, always ready to help out with a smile. The only tiny hiccup about this place was the limited indoor seating. Not so great for families or big groups. But, they've got outdoor tables so families can chow down comfortably. I am pleased that Crate has managed to keep up the quality of their coffee, and their menu fresh. It's a great spot to enjoy a sunny brunch, and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone.

By far the best coffee in the Ivanhoe, Heidelberg Heights, Heidelberg area. They also do very good muffins both sweet and savoury and also cater for vegans and vegetarians.

This tiny cafe's kitchen works wonders. We had brunch there on Saturday. The beef quesadillas and salmon bowl were top notch and that chili oil? A must-try. Hats off to this little gem for their outstanding food.

This was my favorite coffee place in Victoria by far!! Great quality coffee beans, very good food options and super nice staff. The avocado toast was my favorite but the burger is amazing too!!

Only giving 3 because the food was good and the chef seems like she really cares. But the waiter wearing smile faced trackies and a puffer jacket.. He is an absolute lost case. And eating a cookie while working the leaving it half eaten on the bench where food is served - gross dude. Pick up your act, you are far from professional.

Good vibes have left the building with new ownership, drastic staff changes and all the community intentions. I don't like the 2-day old muffins and dry banana bread for the same price, feels like a rip off and dishonesty to the community.

This cafe has terrible customer service. I went inside and was not even looked at twice after having read the reviews and driven 20 minutes to come to this cafe. I asked about the menu and was told to have a seat outside and they will bring out the menu. I sat outside for 15 minutes with my 2 year old and no one even passed to give me a menu. The waiter at the cash register was also just looking around. Shocking service and below 1 star.

If I can give this Cafe less than 1 star I would. People working there are rude and make you feel like you should not be there. I said hello and was given a rude stare, no greeting, I would choose good customer service any day over a good coffee. However, coffee was average and lukewarm. Clearly, the latest reviews are from the owners as the service is appalling.

Under new management but thankfully they haven't made drastic changes to this popular tiny local cafe. 🙏😊 The service is outstanding. Long may Crate continue!

Food and staff are nice however disappointing to be charged $3 for gluten free bread. I understand cafes need to make a profit, but this seems excessive and unfair on people with food intolerances. Even if GF bread is costly, how can it be an additional $3 just for two slices of bread? If an average loaf is say $10, this would mean the GF loaf is $30. Hard to believe...

Rude service where they don’t listen to the customer. Asked for a 6 ounce flat white, got a 10 ounce flat white which was too hot and too bitter.the place looks cute, but doesn’t quite taste so..

We stopped in for what we thought could be a quick takeaway breakkie this morning. We ordered a breakfast wrap and reuben toasie. The food was tasty and service was ok considering it was busy. I have to make mention of the time waiting for our food was over 25 minutes. The coffees came out relatively quickly however, we had finished our coffee and continued to wait for our breakfast without follow up. We will go back again but make sure to allocate time to wait.

This is a very cute small cafe. I like the idea that a lot of cakes seem to be made in house. I had a halloumi sandwich, coffee with a cake. Total was around $29. It will be nice to have a sign of the price for the cake. Since I found it a little bit overprice for what I get. Service is okay. They’re super friendly to their regular customers ( fair enough) Food is okay as well, will definitely come and try different thing next time.

My partner and I were really excited to try this cafe as we have just moved to the area. We ordered 2 ham cheese and tomato toasties and a large cappuccino and a filter coffee to takeaway. I was absolutely shocked when he said it would be $47. After quite a long wait, I received a small coffee and we got two cheese and tomato sandwiches, despite me telling the server HAM cheese and tomato at least 3 times. We were hungry and over the wait by then but I should have gone back and said something. Very poor and I won’t return. I wouldn’t recommend it here either.

Just dropped by on a sunny morning! The coffee was seriously top-notch—couldn't ask for better. Staff were really friendly too, nice vibes and atmosphere. They have a bunch of food options on the menu so, perfect if you’re a foodie like me! Definitely coming back again.

Friendly service, well made coffee and yummy food at this little popular cafe. Outdoor tables and chairs out front make this a handy local place to enjoy coffee or breakfast outdoors. Will def return.

My not so local favourite. Living in Montmorency I struggle to get a decent long black anywhere local. I make the drive to Crate because it's the best in the area for me.

Coffee is amazing. Always consistent and never disappoints. Tried some muffins, doughnuts and croissants and they all tasted eggy. Maybe it comes from the same 'third party' place and not really the coffee shop's fault.

This is a special place. I stop by on my way to work every morning to be woken up by a fantastic group of people. Everyone here is kind and friendly and I have never seen an ounce of frustration or anger at Crate. This is due to the wonderful culture Tory and Bea have created along with the wonderful people who work here. Check out their website to see how much support Crate provides to its employees and their own businesses/interests. Usually lots of doggos in the morning for pats if that's your thing as well :)

An essential part of my morning routine, my day doesn't go smooth unless it starts with a Crate coffee. Amazing cakes and pastries and a killer bacon and egg roll too!

This is a great little hole in the wall place in a quiet back street. Perfect for those of us who work from home or are home with kids. The food is great quality as is the coffee. There's a nice community feel with the patrons. Sadly, I find some of the staff can have quite a bit of attitude. I have been spoken to in a really sarcastic way several times and I think it is uncalled for. I would love to feel a really friendly vibe from the staff when I stop in, that would make the place total perfection.

This cafe was recommended to me by a local and it was a great one. They serve a fabulous coffee and I thoroughly enjoyed the Halloumi Toastie. The only thing missing was the smile on the faces of the staff, they all seemed like they had a big night last night and didn't want to be at work today.

A favourite cafe, staff are lovely and advocate for great organisations to donate to with their tip jar. Always have a good rotation of baked goods late morning to brunch time. Locals always there supporting too. Glad to get my coffee from there!
