Take a tour of a coffee shop with a local roaster at the top level of Melbourne, Dukes has amazing coffee. It is one of the coffee shops that are always crowded with customers. But the service is quite fast. Highly recommend

Excellent service, cozy spot, and really strong mature coffee. I ordered a decaf latte with oat milk and while it was organic and single origin and good things like this, it was quite a bitter, slightly burnt cup. Not sure if it was the oat milk or coffee but it was not my favorite. I feel I must go back and try it with no milk or av different one. They sell a range of pastries here as well and the environment is like a mini modern cave.

Dukes at Ross House has been providing Melbourne with the finest coffee since 2013. Their focus is the craft of carefully roasting the best organic coffees in the world. I had the pleasure to taste two different, organic coffees: a magic made of their house blend with a sweeeeeeet pistachio cake, followed by a refreshing cold brew on ice. Luckily, they had El Salvador Santa Elena – Natural (Organic) on today fort my cold brew. Finca Santa Elena is located in Palo de Campana, Santa Ana and is regarded as one of best organic farms in the country. In fact, Fernando Lima’s coffees have placed in each of the last 18 COE awards, dating back to the origin of the competition in El Salvador. The staff was very friendly, and I liked the minimalistic, yet high quality interior design. There were many different textures to touch and the leather on top of the bench was super comfortable to sit on. I especially liked the handwritten logo on the front façade and the wooden menu board in the back of the café.

Found this place by accident on a recent trip to Melbourne. Had several good coffees at the time , but not one I really connected with , until Dukes . This place is tiny but packed , so it’s obviously well known amongst the people around here . It’s not on any of the “ best coffee places to go to “ so wasn’t on my radar and I have no idea why . Staff efficient and friendly. Coffee amazing- and they are 100% organic . Quite a few little morsels to go with your coffee - pastries, biscuits and little cakes and slices . I know when I return to Melbourne I’m coming back to Dukes .

Going out for lunch but early so time to grab a coffee and saw this place, fantastic! Ordered small soy latte which was really good and like the way this takeaway coffee shop only has 2 sizes available instead of 4 like some places. They also have a range of sweet treats to takeaway. Interestingly I asked staff member if I could take photos and she said fine but please no staff or customers in photos. I said of course I never put people in my photos and if you've seen any of my reviews you'll have seen that. I like photos of the place, the 'vibe', anyway it's rude to take strangers photographs let alone an invasion of their privacy. Then after I'd taken couple of photos and got coffee saw sign on counter this venue has a no photograph policy. Boy some certain people might have taken some they shouldn't. But anyway go to Duke's to get your coffe, they were quite busy and I can understand why.

Loved it. They do great coffee. Staff were friendly and inviting. Rated on broadsheet as one of the best cafes in Melbourne - and for good reason. Also - you know a place is good when another cafe top tier cafe also recommends them. One thing you'll find in Melbourne is that if a cafe is great at what it does at a base level (ie coffee) - they know they'll get their repeat and new business. If in the Melbourne CBD, this place should definitely be within your Top 10 cafes to visit.

Easily one of the best coffees in the city. Great pastries as well. Used to get really crowded, particularly with tourists but not so much in the current environment. Also very friendly and efficient staff.

Can’t believe I’ve been walking past this place for years and never tried it. It was busy with the pre-9am office crowd but with lots of workers and a couple of machines the wait wasn’t too long. The taste of my soy magic (Bonsoy) was exactly what I wanted. The extraction was perfect and milk texture and temperature great. I’ve been looking for this taste since Cup of Truth around the corner closed down. It might be my new regular on the walk from the train station to the office.

I tried the flat white from Dukes Coffee Roasters and, although I wouldn't rank it as one of the best coffees I've had in Melbourne, I still enjoyed it. The coffee had a smooth texture and a nutty. The barista was friendly and the service was quick. I found the coffee to be a bit on the weaker side, but that didn't detract from the overall experience.

Famous for their coffee... I came here on Saturday at 3:30 pm, but they didn't want to serve me coffee as they were closing down at 4 pm. I didn't want to come back again but wishing to give them another chance, I came earlier this time and ordered the flat white. They do live up to their reputation, as the coffee was very strong and aromatic. Just wish my first experience with them wasn't so bitter.

Had a Flat white and a Cappuccino but found both of them to be underwhelming. Initially there was a queue and thought that it should be good. Not sure if we went at the wrong time as it seems that it was quite busy and all. Was expecting more from this cafe which was highly rated but alas it didn't quite cut out for us.

It was my first time visiting DUKESCOFFEE. The service staff and baristas at the coffee shop were all dressed in dark-colored uniforms. The coffee machine and grinder were stainless steel and black in color, while the interior of the shop had a wooden theme with warm yellow lighting. The overall atmosphere was delightful, giving a sense of a well-organized and professional cafe. I had noticed some negative reviews about the service attitude, but during my visit, I didn't encounter any such issues. The service experience was quite good, and the staff were all friendly. However, I found the coffee quality a bit disappointing. I ordered a takeout flat white, but it had a slightly burnt taste and some over-extracted flavors, which didn't meet my expectations.

The coffee here is really hyped but I think it's just okay. That said, the raisin scroll is well worth a visit. It's soft, buttery and not too sweet. I also love the fitout of this cafe although it's small, so don't expect to stay for long.

If you are new in Melbourne, you have to know couple of facts about this city. One of the best things in Melbourne is drinking coffee. You don't need to be a gourmet to appreciate the taste of the coffee and enjoy with the coffee culture. Dukes is one of those nice cafes which is always crowded but they serve quite fast, faster than many other places and they always serve good quality coffee. You can buy their own blend. The staff: one of the best things about Melbourne is people are always very friendly and Dukes is not an exception.

Unfortunately I got an excessively hot filter with little flavour. My partner got a double espresso that was quite bitter. We will try them again & do another review as we have heard great things. The beans they sell are great, we have used them at home. When we went the store was very very busy but the service was excellent and fast. The menu is on the back wall of the store so we couldn't read it while we lined up, it would be more helpful at the front end of the store.

Disappointing coffee given most other reviews. Flat white to have in was a bit weak. Service and food were nice but the space is really noisy and no attempts to soften it, people dragging stools around akin to nails on a chalkboard. Won’t be going back in a hurry.

A decent spot but a little overrated and a tad overpriced in my opinion. Two coffees and two macaron-esque sweets came out to $17.50. The iced latte somehow got better as I sipped with more, varied, coffee notes coming to the forefront

Overall: 5/5 Ordered a soy latte and it had a hint of sweetness despite no sugar. Perfect amount of milk to coffee ratio. Good amount of foam and coffee was strong yet smooth. Taste: 5 - sweet nutty note and very creamy! Value: 4 - a bit pricey but worth the quality Ambience: 4 - calming, wooden interior Service: 4

The store maintained a tidy environment, with generally friendly staff providing fast service. The take-away cappuccino I ordered was delicious, yet I tasted a separation between the milk and froth from the latte. This left me disappointed, as the taste resembled supermarket coffee milk rather than the quality one would expect from a barista.

Excellent coffee, nice cake/snack selection and very friendly staff. We took refuge here on a rainy Sunday - whilst the coffee shop itself is small, it’s nice and cozy and the staff look after you - quick to bring water and take empty plates from our small table. Had a flat white - smooth and creamy, very delicious. Accompanied the coffee with a slice of carrot cake - yum - and a peanut and chocolate chip cookie. Excellent combo. Toilets are out the back through the neighbouring office cubicles, but are clean and handy. Will be back as favourite coffee from my weekend visit to Melbourne.

My unexpected second time here, Came here first time as a traveler, ice coffee was over extracted very bitter and was burnt - the cashier insisted that the customer behind me came before me even the one behind me said they came after the cashier kept insisted 3 times that they came before 😅 second time unexpectedly here! I literally didn’t remember the coffee shop name so i searched for a good one and then get into long line when I got in then I realized ‘oh this is the same coffee’ as I went last time 6 months ago, like the same cashier attitude with different person, No good morning No hi - just the word “Yeah” and wait for me to order without saying anything without even smile 😅is this really normal for this coffee shop, or it’s me that international students? Not so sure cuz she say ‘hi how are you for the person before me????? Anyway coffee today is ok but they wont heat any pastries for you and they dont have medium size of up when you having-in, so if you just wanna grap and go, this coffee shop is ok… anyway for me I may not come back!😅 I was traumatized by the way their service treated me 👌

After reading that dukes coffee provided the best coffee in Melbourne, I decided to jump on a plane and head south. Some food and beverages are just worth it. Entering the coffee shop in Flinders lane, I was excited to try what was supposedly Melbourne's best. Having my first, second and third sips, I honestly couldn't stop but cringe each time. I would honestly put it on par with a watered down coles express coffee (I only drink long blacks). Whilst I cannot comment on their other coffee variants, the long black I had was simply disappointing. Live and learn they say.

  • 4/5 RL 7 months ago on Google
Had almond croissant and oat latte (they have full cream, oat, and soy). Pro: quick and standard service, nothing over the top that will make come back there regularly. Coffee is just what you expect from a Melbourne cafe. For improvement: I wish I was offered to heat my croissant. Space is a bit cramped, quaint but charming. Better for to-go coffee more than catch ups.

Duke's Roasters is a dark, almost subterranean, lair/cafe. They roast their own beans and ensure it's all organic. As such, they ensure quality from bean to cup. Really nice, but they didn't have any croissants.

(Translated by Google) Perhaps the best coffee in Melbourne can be found only here. The locals always have a stir and a queue for a portion of caffeine, the benefit of the staff is a lot and they work very quickly. Most likely you will not be able to sit because of the small room and people, so only with yourself. Alternative types of milk available. Good Coffee, Busy, Quick service. Only issue is seating, if its raining outside and you cant get a seat(limited),there is nowhere to relax while eating one of their delicious brownies or croissants with your coffee (all public benches near by get wet) I Cant help but feel the space could be utilized much more effectively to accommodate more tables.

The coffee is fantastic and the cakes look wonderful and interesting but sadly for me, the take on traditional items just doesn’t quite translate. Croissants are tough to compete with in a city like Melbourne, when you have the likes of Lune down the road. And the Florentine base is more cookie than Florentine. Still, Dukes is a full give stars in my opinion for the coffee alone!

  • 5/5 Ahmed A. 2 years ago on Google
I got a latte with 2 sugars and full cream milk. It was pretty good, and the price was fair. The milk and the froth was just right. However, the cup size is quite small so so be aware of that if you’re intending to get a large cup with a big kick of caffeine

It’s a different style cafe, in a busy street of Melbourne full of cafes, but you’ll usually see this place full and busy and many times with a line of people as the quality is really good, the coffee is nice, different options and professional people working there. The concept of the place is quite minimalistic and different that the other cafes in the area and that helps to make it more unique.
