Paid $6 for a cappuccino that was was burnt and sour, with bubbly foam. Really disappointing! Giving it two stars just because I have had good coffees here in the past. But definitely not in rush to come back.

Wish they had soy milk and indoor seating but I can’t deny the coffee is delicious. One of the best coffee options in the area.

Market Lane coffee is a small hole in the wall, takeaway coffee shop. They only have one size cup, only have full cream milk and one size cup. Coffee is good but it's very limited. Staff are a little got and miss here too and wait times aren't the best. Considering the plethora of good coffee options around, it's not too of my list

Cute coffee shop. I had walked by it a few times and made a note to check it out because it was so charming; however, when I finally popped in for a drink the male barista was super rude and short with us. He/they were annoyed when we asked to see a menu (we just moved to Melbourne and are still adjusting to the coffee scene) and then talked poorly about us to their coworker when he/they thought we were out of earshot. Perhaps they shouldn’t be in a customer service role or maybe they were just having an off day. The coffee was fine but I probably won’t go back due to the service. Lots of other places to go to on Lygon. **unable to reply to owner in comment but this occurred a week ago.

The few times I’ve been here the coffee has been slightly sour. I assume the coffee blend is more of a medium to light roast and thus brighter, but the execution is not quite right, especially when paired with oat milk. Good service.

Absolutely nailing it for a ‘hole in the wall’ type of cafe. Super kind and friendly staff, incredible coffee and a great community vibe. Market Lane has been my all time favourite coffee for years and they’ve never once dropped the ball with their consistency!

I am unsure how a small cappuccino with full cream milk is $6 here, in addition to it not being full. Most of the places in that area are around the $4 min or $5 max for a small. However it looks like a nice place on the outside.

I order a skinny cap. And for $5 I get back a full-fat flat white. Apparently these special people call the shots for consumers; ordinarily this only happens in a commie state or a cult e.g. the menanites. Perhaps people like me — and the myriad of others who for health reasons need to drink milks other than full-fat dairy, and order out-of-fashion coffees like a cap — should wear arm bands with some sort of insignia to identify us so you don't serve us in the first place?

Dissapointing that there is no dairy free option for vegan customers, those with lactose intolerance, or just prefer the taste of a plant based milk. I asked for a soy latte and felt a bit talked down to with an elitist vibe when told full cream cow milk is the only option.

Awful coffee was unbelievably bitter. Didnt even have skim or almond milk. Grow up its 2022.

Carlton store has been there for years now and the coffee is still good today as it was the day the store opened. Also, having @bakerdchirico located right next door is handy if you're wanting a pastry to go with the coffee. Market lane sell stainless steel Espro press. Thats a gift that keeps on giving for me. Its in a vacuum seal so it keeps coffee hot unlike the glass presses. If you combine that with a quality bean and grinder and it'll pay for itself eventually.

Had a job nearby today so I felt like a coffee. One of the best I've had in a while and this is probably the best market lane shop I've been to. Double espresso done perfectly. Thank you!

Nailing oat milk, I usually avoid ordering it at most places because it’s generally awful even when the barista can smash out other fantastic plant based coffee but when somewhere only has oat as the dairy free option you know it’s gotta be good. Excellent and fast service too by the barista who was taking orders, making coffee, and making polite conversation.

Besides nice coffee they sell a good range of beans.

  • 5/5 Elizabeth M. 2 years ago on Google
Always the perfect cup of coffee! Consistency across all their locations is second to none. For serious coffee appreciators this is a go to or if nearby one of their locations, worth the wait! Just don't ask for skim milk or any other milk/mylk (they only do Schultz full cream) but if you know, you know!

Always such an excellent coffee. I've been coming here near daily for several years. I extra love they use organic, non-homogenised milk (Shultz). Love you Market Lane! xx

I love the team at Market Lane Carlton and Market Lane in general! I've been drinking Market Lane Coffee for years now at both their flagships and other cafés I've worked for, and I've never once been disappointed. I love how quaint the shop face is and love how 'hands on' the staff get when assisting with bean and retail purchasing. Passion oozes out of this project and into my own soul. Go Market Lane!

Pretentious drivel. 'We only have organic... blah blah blah'. Get your feet back on the ground, it's only coffee.

Best espresso coffee in carlton and always a great selection of beans to get your fix at home. 5 stars!

  • 3/5 Shawn L. 5 years ago on Google
Good coffee and popular local cafe (coffee only, no food). But a 15 min wait for a long black without an apology or acknowledgement is just not good enough (noticed they messed it up and mistakenly made an espresso before doing it again). Sure it was busy-ish but not crazy busy, with other customers coming in after getting their coffees ahead of me.

  • 3/5 Evad 2 years ago on Google
Works in great synergy with the bakery next door (Baker D Chirico) - from which I purchased a fresh, tasty croissant to complement by long black from Market Lane - each being more profitable next to one another than they would with no other shop nearby. The seating is somewhat problematic, however. In the winter it is either rain blasted or blocked from the warming sun by the building of which the cafe is a part or both. In the summer, meanwhile, it is unsheltered from the high, strong sun. It is a lose, lose scenario,

Not even a greeting or a smile when I walked in — short asian lady just looked at me blankly while I bought coffee. Sorry won’t be coming back to this place. Save yourself some trouble and go to Patricia’s or The dukes.

Possibly having a bad day, but by far the worst of 5 coffees we had on a recent Melbourne stay. Shot probably ok but the milk was poorly textured and a little burnt. Really disappointed

  • 1/5 Laura W. 1 year ago on Google
PLEASE diversify more. Market lane won’t cater for you if you deviate from a full cream coffee, the staff can be quite blunt about it too. No almond milk, no chai. Spend your money elsewhere.

No dairy free option. Basic business/marketing fix. Soy milk is hardly an out there, unusual choice for coffee nowadays. It’s likely to send a reasonable portion of your market away from your joint. The staff also have serious “holier than thou” attitude. Coffee snobbery at its best. My money won’t be spent there.

I started coming here since my daughter was born for our morning pram walk. Definitely the cosiest Market Lane in Melbourne. Right next to a popular bread shop and even though they only serve full cream milk they're always helpful with recommendation for people looking for skinny or soy or decaf. Weekends can get super busy.

A good ol' cup of latté from here with canelé from Baker D. Chirico next door - just one of the true joys of living in Carlton. You can really taste the love they put in to making coffee for the city that loves to drink it.

Only full day milk (no non dairy options) and no iced options. These are easy fixes guys!

  • 1/5 Julio Del C. 4 years ago on Google
Coffee is mediocre (there are many better places) BUT the service is appalling and THEY CHARGED ME TWICE! WARNING IF PAYING BY CARD HERE: They use square payments terminal, which is a little white square terminal. You can't check the amount they have charged your card (like double charges) as there is no screen to check. Make sure you check your invoices, as double charging happened to me! No apologies offered. Other feedback: - For the shameful service, you would think the arrogance would be made up for exceptional coffee. NOPE! Go else where, there are many great coffee shops nearby with good service.

The Coffee here is my favourite in Melbourne. It’s part of my weekend ritual to go here and get a cappuccino. I find the staff to be mainly friendly (although some are warmer than others). I think they should be more flexible with milk options though... It’s ok for me, but the lack of alternative milk options prevents me bringing my friends and family to this place. This is an easy fix, I’m not sure why they havn’t implemented it yet, I suspect some snobbery is involved...
