Sunday morning and driving through North Balwyn, where I lived when a teenager, and looking for coffee, here we found The Village Cafe. Looked nice inside and also some outdoor seating, so we took a punt, and glad we did. The place was humming with just a few tables vacant inside where we wanted to be. Staff were great from the start with a friendly welcome, and we had a nice table. Seemed like we had just sat down when our coffee and cake arrived via another friendly waiter! Coffee and cake were both excellent. These guys have got it; nice facility, good coffee and food and great service.

This is a fabulous cafe!!! The food is great and my personal favourite is the eggs your way (I like the toast with scrambled eggs)… Anyway, if you haven’t tried this cafe, well, you better! The owner (Sam) is also extremely friendly. Just eat at the cafe 2-3 times and then he’ll be able to recognise you super easily!

One of our favourite places to visit! Sam and his team provide a wonderful atmosphere with great food and coffee! The Village Cafe has been our ‘go to’ for almost 10 year and we look forward to getting down there every weekend. Awesome job team!

Worst cafe experience in Melbourne. No idea why this place has such good reviews!!? We ordered 3 meals and they were all terrible. The bagel came with a smear of cream cheese on one side and a tiny bit of salmon in the centre and 3 capers. Terrible! We sent it back. The bruschetta was similarly bad. The person who ordered it absolutely loves raw onion, but there was so much onion on it she had to pick it all out, which ended up in a pile on her plate. The smoked salmon open sandwich I ordered was served as one piece of bread that someone had thrown a lettuce mix at, then some salmon and a glob of cream cheese on the top, so I had to decontruct the whole thing to remake it, and also request more cream cheese. The wait staff were lovely however when I tried to bring the issues up with the manager and the owner, both had the attitude of 'that's how I like to eat it so you're wrong'. They looked at me with contempt. The owner actually said 'some people might not want cream cheese on one side of their bagel', and was completely unapologetic about everything. The owner is a complete tosser!!!! Avoid this place if you like good food and fair customer service.

Service was very ordinary. Drinks took 15 mins to arrive simple meals to ages to arrive and then came to the table one at a time with large pause between each person's meal. Would not eat there again.

Very friendly and good customer service at this small but comfortable cafe. The drinks as well as the almond croissant were yummy. Would certainly be a returning customer.

Coffee & a muffin for 2. Coffee & Ham & cheese croissant for 1. Muffins were excellent, freshly baked in house, croissant was very nice. Coffee was great, as was the service. What's not to love. 5 stars.

It's been a while since I had paid this cafe a visit due to the pandemic. They still have a dizzying array of fresh made brekkie & lunch options, as well as small, ready-made meals such as wraps and sandwiches on display. Unfortunately, my favourite dish, the "big salad" had since been taken off the menu. However, the staff were kind enough to make one for me regardless, and it still tastes marvellous.

The Village Cafe's coffee is a rich, aromatic symphony, a perfect balance of boldness and smoothness. From the first sip to the last, it delivers a delightful caffeine kick accompanied by nuanced flavors. What truly sets this cafe apart is its lovely staff—attentive, welcoming, and passionate about their craft. Their warm service enhances the entire coffee-drinking experience, making a visit to The Village Cafe not just about the beverage but also about the genuine hospitality that accompanies it.

Maybe good for locals but wouldn’t go out of my way. Old fashioned food that is just ehhh, setting is a scene from your standard 90s cafe, service was quite slow and cakes where factory made. Wouldn’t recommend.

I am a regular customer of the Village Cafe. Sam and the staff are great and the food is at the higher end of Cafe food quality. Prices are reasonable and ambiance inviting. Be advised that this venue is very popular and seating is limited at peak times.

SAVE YOUR MONEY, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE absolute appalling. creepy old men seemingly appearing to be waay to close to their younger female staff. - over priced for a not so good coffee - very basic menu made to look not-so-basic - 2/10 for the coffee - 3/10 for the general ambiance of a fish and chips shop (they had no potato cakes and fish bites though so very sad) ordered a very basic scrambled eggs on toast but to no surprise they managed to over complicate and mess up that too all in all.. would never go there again not if it was the last cafe standing in this city

My go to place for a hot chocolate made with Lindt chocolate! We also love breakfast here on the weekend. It is always busy with a great buzz, but getting aseat is not usually a problem

Friends, this is a 5 star café, except this morning I was was left dissatisfied. I was asked "would you like butter on your banana bread", to which I answered "yes". I then receive banana bread slathered in "Miracle Spread" margarine. I appreciate that Miracle Spread is a more cost effective product, but it is not butter. Had I known that was what I was being offered, I would not have said yes. Happy to change review upon acknowledgement of my dissatisfaction.

Came late in the afternoon so the kitchen was closed but there were still sufficient options to satisfy and the dessert offerings looked moorish

We had breakfast and you could taste old oil in everything. Also small portions. Very disappointing. Staff friendly though. Can’t suggest for breaky at all.

Service was efficient, and it was late in the morning of Cup Day... I just didn't quite feel welcome. That's personal: the food and coffee were fine and I've enjoyed that efficiency of service on other visits. But I'm not truly a local.

My brother in law booked breakfast for my wife and me for her Birthday. In real honesty, it’s not a place I would typically go-to for breakfast as it is very unassuming. On arrival, the owner is so welcoming and enjoys pleasing his guests, and it is easy to tell that he takes the time to get to know his regulars. My wife had the Grilled Asparagus with poached eggs, bacon, Hollandaise, and topped with pomegranate. It was amazing. The saltiness of the bacon with the bursts of sweetness from the pomegranate was genuinely remarkable. I had the shakshuka, and if you've ever had a shakshuka you know it's easy to make it too acidic with so much tomato in one dish but The Village Cafe, has managed to tame it well preserving a real depth of flavour. The shakshuka is topped with dukkah that adds a bit of nuttiness that helps to enlighten your taste buds and make every morsel a fresh and enticing experience—all in all, an incredible place to eat that I would recommend to anyone.
