I like the theme of this cute café and the food is great! This shop features a traveling theme, where you can see a lot of icons of traveling, like clocks of different capital cities and world map. The food is tasty and well prepared. We ordered English breakfast and the burger, and ended up with a Japanese soufflé. Dishes came very quickly and we started to dig it in and forgot to take photo. I called it a “photo forgetting” meal.

The product was really average, the chicken breast was fried black, and the result could not be changed if I asked for it. I changed the smoked salmon for extra money. Omelette fried eggs were very old and tasted bad.

Travelling bandit This area of North Balwyn, it’s Greythorn really, strikes me as needing a bit of a lift, foodwise at least. Travelling Bandit looked like comfortably the best cafe option on a scan of both sides of this shopping strip (although I later spotted the Jolly Miller which is in a more secluded area off the road). The cafe has street appeal then and its moderately attractive inside too and almost cute. It also has very nice front and back open areas. Most importantly, the coffee is very good here. They serve a perfectly respectable brew that would be easily at home in any of the more fancied areas. The menu is said to be good too, I understand. The cafe was doing an acceptably good trade among all age groups while I was there. The staff dealt with the custom politely and efficiently. There was a hits mix on that was mainly 80s. It was inoffensive and quite pleasant after a while. Nice place overall. A terrific option if you’re in this area. I’d happily return another time.

I love these guys! The coffee is great, service is great and the food too. They have recently got a new chef (after change over of owners) and my fav meal which is the calamari salad has been changed a bit but it’s just as good if not better than the way it used to be! So happy these guys are still doing well with the change over.. well done guys, keep it going 👏👏👏

The chef special and regular menu items were delicious and tasted fresh. We had the Japanese soufflé pancake which came with mildly sweet coconut ice cream, maple syrup, pineapple and had a nice balance to it. The chef special slow cooked pork was tender and quite flavoursome. Food was good, seems a little pricey, but in line with brunch prices.

What a little gem of a Cafe! We enjoyed a Sunday lunch here. The service from all of the staff was very friendly and efficient. The food was really great, all of our meals were delicious. Mine was exceptionally good - a Persian chicken dish - the meat was so tender, it fell off the bones. I forgot to say when I ordered my meal that I don't eat onion and my side salad was promptly replaced with a fresh salad, onion free. No fuss. I complimented the chef on her dish and was able to have a short chat with her. I discovered from that chat that the Persian dishes are changed every few days. I can't wait to go back and try another dish! The coffee was good, the prices were very reasonable. I think I've found a new favourite venue.

Awesome local cafe very busy for its size and location (extra parking available out back). Definitely a gem! The Sri Lankan Egg Hopper packs a good punch and has an excellent mix of spice, textures and flavors. The Aussie Smash was well balanced with hearty vegies and the San pedro was simple but tasty. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. Coffees are strong and made well to order. Will be back again A++!! Loved it!

My 2nd visit, because of the first. Good chai, and yummy simple toasted cheese & ham sandwich that was just that little bit more delicious 🙂. Staff welcoming, attentive, everyone friendly, and polite. It's clean, well presented, and going by the flow of customers - sit down and takeaway - it is understandably popular. Be back again .. 😌🌻🤌🍂👏💙💛🌈

Really enjoy the coffee made by the barista Andrew. I order a skinny Capp and every time it is made with a good amount of smooth froth, the taste is not weak or bitter, and the presentation is consistently good (see photo below). Andrew and other staff are always friendly and welcoming also.

Amazing place! Service is consistently friendly, fast and efficient. Regular special items on the menu and the regulars are really good (as is, very importantly, the coffee!). There's limited seating out front, a nice indoor area and a recently refurbished and comfortable outdoor area under a shadesail at the back. It gets busy on the weekends mid morning, kinda to be expected.

The *Rueben* is by far, my favourite sandwich and has been for many a year. You could say I’ve potentially had, hundreds of variations in my life and I can comfortably and confidently say that *this* rueben is the best. The best I have ever had!.

Great service, great menu. The staff are always very responsive and the food always comes out great. The menu is not very large which i think helps the kitchen execute each dish to perfection.

Just had coffee and a couple of small food items in the cabinet; definitely coming back. Coffee is nice, staff are lovely and upbeat fun tunes. So far better than other cafes in the area although I don't live close by, it's between my house and the pool at Boroondara centre.

We went here for my grandmother’s birthday on the grand final day holiday and had a great time. Poor guys were SEVERELY understaffed but worked so hard to keep everything moving smoothly, and did so well. Everyone’s meal was delicious! Also like to mention - perfectly steamed almond milk. I find a lot of cafe’s in the area will keep going until the milk separates, but the barista made beautiful smooth almond milk.

I went here arter reading pretty good reviews especially about the coffee and although the people are nice and food ok, the coffee is nowhere near what other reviewers have said, in fact, Im sorry to say, I would not have coffee here again at all. Dragged down to Two stars based on the coffee.

A delightful unexpected lunch stop on the way through Doncaster. Beautiful and relaxing atmosphere, great menu options and the staff were warm, attentive and welcoming. Accommodated my requests happily - would visit here again happily. The grilled chicken salad (swapping calamari for chicken) had great flavour combinations - sweet currants, zesty rocket, tangy feta, great texture with thinly sliced roasted killer potatoes and a fresh green bean crunch - all tied together with a great house-made dressing! Highly recommend 🥰

Other experience, for the hiring staff procedures, they will ask the applicants to work 2 hours for them. This is indicated as a trial, however, they didn’t mention this 2-hour is for a free trial during the interview. After that never heard from them never and ever again. I would like to know what kind of method they are using. Probably the people are working for them most likely a free trial turn over.this is how they run a business. Such a good ideas.

Really lovely little spot in Balwyn, had fantastic first experience a few months back. Then had bad experience when staff just ignored me, and more interested in serving two blokes who obviously regulars who walked in after me. next was just simple coffee and cake - non-issue Today was just bad - ordered at the counter - explained I'll be sitting out front - sitting out front coffee came as takeaway, then food came packed for takeaway, while then realising it was meant to be dine in - apologised straight away. But we clarify that it was dine when I paid for it. Its a nice spot and I'm sure the local community love it. One more chance -

Tables inside jammed together like sardines - could barely walk around them. Place was 3/4 full but with only one waitress there was no way she could cope despite working her little heart out. Waited 10 minutes and left.

Travelling Bandit offers a surprisingly diverse menu of breakfast & lunch choices, always freshly prepared & very well presented. Whilst egg dishes are available it is worth trying other options as well, including Japanese & other influences for both sweet & savoury dishes. The coffee is very good too & the staff are always efficient & helpful, making regulars & newcomers equally welcome. We always enjoy our visits & trying something new.

Came here a few days ago with my misses and two kids. Honestly walking by you’d think just another generic suburban cafe that Melbourne has produced. Tossing up between the Malaysian place two doors up and here, we rolled the dice with Bandit cafe. From the moment we walked in the door, kids in hand and starving to death. We were greeted with warm smiles and polite staff (something that is sometimes rare in Melbourne in my opinion.) The menu is perfectly designed for the size of the place, small but has everything you need, brekkie and lunch options also. We went for the cheese burger and fried calamari. (Was going to go for the chicken salad also, but as my misses knows me to well my eyes are bigger then my stomach.) Each dish that came out honestly was perfect.. we couldn’t fault a thing. Presentation was spot on, And best calamari I’ve had in years (the fennel in the dish was awesome by the way chef well done) I noted to my parter that the cheese burger had lettuce and tomato on it which we both love! Even down to the cheese toasty that my three year old had looked and tasted lovely! Few things of note, if you’d sell booze you would have made another $100 off me, and get bigger mineral waters!! Thank you Bandit cafe for such a lovely and enjoyable meal. Our new favourite local 👍

The staff are so friendly, welcoming and always here when you need help. They have a beautiful outdoor and indoor area and it is always looking fresh and clean. This is always the cafe i will look up to. Thanks.
