This used to be my favourite cafe. However, coffee quality seems to have degraded since my last couple of visits - not sure if their barista has changed or it's because of the Sunday rush. There is no fixed menu of pastries. The list of pastries seems to change completely every time. Moreover, they are very reluctant to let us know about the available pastries - overall, quite disappointed at the service.

It's one of the top rated cafes for a reason. They know how to do good... Great coffee. My lattes on both occasions were great. The best time I found was in the morning. You can get a seat and sit and enjoy the ambience of the place. Loved that melancholic music (Suki Waterhouse). You can be happy and content and listen to music like that. Good stuff. Chairs in the sky? You must be at Brother Baba Budan. They use Seven Seeds coffee here (which is the bees knees). Staff on both occasions were friendly too. They also have some light food as well (just so you don't have your coffee on an empty stomach in the morning). Be quick as when you come here later in the day, it is full inside and out (which speaks to the popularity of this place). One of my first cafes I visited on this trip and it was my last cafe out. Getting here is easy as there is a tram nearby on Elizabeth Street / Little Bourke Street. And again, you know a cafe is confident in their abilities and success when they can recommend other places too. You have been wonderful and keep doing you. Wishing you all the best. Until next time - au revoir.

Such an interesting coffee place. Even more interesting if you can Google the history of baba Budan :-) Loved the decor with floating furniture on the ceiling of this quaint and cosy coffee shop! The coffee was delicious and I would highly recommend this cafe for an post- meal coffee ☕️ on little Bourke ( which is what we did). Service is quick and staff are friendly. Definitely one of the nicer coffee places in Melbourne!

Since 2007 (according to the paper cup), this coffee shop has already served the people 😎 for the caffeine fix. The queue might seem a bit long but the service is quick and they will call out your name. The coffee is so good and quite unique as it is roasted professionally using the seven seeds bean.

Heard a lot about this place and the amazing coffee and so I had to try n damn was it good! Had the cappuccino and the long black n the coffee was really good.. cute little ambiance with a very different decor where there are more chairs on the ceiling than on the ground n I've now found myself a constant coffee shop!

On my coffee tour through the Melbourne CBD, we made our second stop at Brother Baba Budan. I was surprised by the queue in front of the little coffee shop. We generally do not see that where I am coming from (Switzerland). I especially liked the interior design and the music, totally my style. On the wall you could watch a video from a coffee farm. On the opposite wall you could also ready about the sustainability program their roaster put in place. It is great to see how specialty coffee is pushing this factor of the coffee value chain. We then, of course, also tasted an espresso. I was curious how the baristas could keep up with a straight black espresso during such a busy time: they did a fantastic job. The washed coffee from Ethiopia 🇪🇹 was very clean, sweet, with a lingering finish. Thank you very much for this experience.

Had an appointment down this end of town so got reacquainted with this old haunt today. I had forgotten how much I love the coffee here and their sweet treats didn’t disappoint... shame it’s so far from where I currently work otherwise would make this my regular. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Previous Review This cafe is mostly a take away coffee place for me and it used to be a regular spot when it was in walking distance from work. Now it’s just an occasional venue and I still like the nutty smooth style of coffee that they extract. Staff seem to love working here and are chatty amongst themselves and friendly. Today I had a little more time spare so was able to in on the communal table while the rest of Melbourne appeared to queue and wait. They do basic eats which are mostly sweet and if you are after beans for the home machine this is the right place for you.

It was so awesome that on World Coffee Day, Brother Baba Budan Cafe in partnership with Visit Melbourne gave away free coffees to the first 100 customers! We weren’t lucky enough to be one of them but it didn’t matter as we wanted to support local businesses who are giving back especially during a pandemic. Their coffee is delicious with friendly staff who smile through their masks! Love the chairs on the roof.

It's very small with few seats cafe at little bourke street. It's always busy so very hard to get seats. Lots of people get coffee for take away too. They roasted and sell their own coffee too as "seven seeds" brand. The latte and cappucino taste good, the cakes also very delicious. Will be keep.coming back

Four stars for the coffee and cool creation of hanging chairs from the ceiling however it’s super busy- we had to wait outside for awhile as the place is small and queue was long. In my opinion it wasn’t worth the wait as there wasn’t anywhere to sit. I’d much rather go to a cafe where I can sit down and enjoy my coffee. I found the coffee reviews to be a bit overrated too as it wasn’t the best coffee I’ve had. Yes it was good but I wouldn’t say “amazing”. Maybe perfect for someone who is wanting to purchase a good coffee on the go.

Always a queue, some of the best coffee in Melbourne. Not much to go with the coffee unfortunately but it’s so good I’m happy to get over it. Only minor niggle is it doesn’t have lactose free milk but otherwise highly recommended. Limited seating inside and a few small tables outside.

Because the space of inside is very small, it is difficult to drink a cup of coffe inside the restaurant, but you can drink a cup of coffee comfortably and leisurely outside table. The coffee tastes very good and wonderful.

One of the founding cafes that makes Melbourne coffee world famous. Coffee beans are from seven seeds, and the interior is designed by Breathe Architects. The store has been in its current location for a long time now, but the rustic interior with hanging chairs in the ceiling is still very much instagrammable. Drop by if you want a sip of true Melbourne coffee and they sell merchants too.

I love everything in this cafe! Maybe they don’t have enough seats and space, but their coffee and desserts are absolutely amazing. The peanut butter cookies is a must try! It’s so chewy and delicious, especially with coffee. And the service was really nice, I found the dessert to be appealing and sweet but one of the staff recommended the peanut butter cookie to me and it was really good.

BBB has long been my favourite coffee spot in Melbourne CBD. I normally get a strong cappuccino but because it’s getting warmer, I’ve moved across to an iced coffee. They use top notch vanilla ice cream and add the coffee and milk to it. Flavours are perfect. I tend to avoid it during peak times as I don’t like takeaway coffee.

At the bustling coffee shop, the ambiance is delightful. Despite the bustling pace, the staff remains incredibly warm and welcoming. The coffee carries a subtle acidity without any bitterness, and the cranberry cake is simply delightful, an absolute treat.

Service was friendly, but coffee wasn’t great. Mocha didn’t have a sufficient chocolate flavour and the milk wasn’t very well frothed and integrated unfortunately. Seems to be dependant on the staff working. Chairs were quite uncomfortable - seems to discourage sitting.

This tiny cafe has a warm and welcoming ambience. Love the background music from Soulchef. Amazing coffee and good small bites. Staffs are really efficient. Sandwiches are pricey 🥪 so I can see the coffee is the reason makes people keep coming. I highly recommend this cafe for coffee lovers. ☕❤️

One of the most delicious cups of chai latte I’ve had in a long while. Ordered a soy chai with a hint of honey thanks to a previous reviewer and I was in awe. It didn’t make it too sweet, but rlly complemented the spices from the chai. Everything just worked well, not too much spice, could do less sweetness but the creaminess was surreal. Normally the camera eats first but I sneakily had a sip and it was gone in moments. I’ve had plenty of chai around Melbourne and this deserves all the hype. They use the Fly High chai brew. Stumbled across this place 8 years ago and quality is still the absolute best. Hidden in the outskirts of the busy city, is this small shopfront that attracts you with just the aroma of their beans. Their coffee is amazing, but their chai is just as good.

If you love seven seeds coffee beans then you will love it🥰 my coffee is long black with 3 shots. If coffee beans is wrong then I wouldn't never like this coffee. I understand that coffee beans has completely different taste than others. Atmosphere is different and very busy. Cafe it's self very small and tiny place, to have sit down to chill is very hard because very small place but I do love it here when I visit Melbourne, this is the place to try one of my favourite coffee shops😊

I decided to try this place out because I heard so many praises. I have been twice and I cant say I'm impressed at all. First of all they charged me two different prices for the exact same thing on two different days. Second, the coffee was not smooth at all. It was grainy. Staff are quite slow and had to wait over 15 minutes eventhough they weren't that busy.

  • 5/5 S A. 10 months ago on Google
Very nice cute little cafe it was located right in front of where we were saying. And it did seem busy so we decided to give it a try and we try the coffee. They do you serve seven seeds coffee which was amazing, so creamy and the blend of coffee was fresh. We really enjoyed the coffee was smooth.

Old but gold, Brother Baba Budan is a Melbourne Classic. Kudos to them for lasting so long. Here, you'll find Seven Seeds Coffee, nice milkies, and chairs stuck to the ceiling. The guys do good work here. Their coffee is ethically sourced through seeds. They stock interesting singles and have some nice coffee for at home. It's a popular takeaway spot, but I like to dine in, relax, and enjoy my coffee as Little Bourke Street moves by. It's a pretty good area for coffee now. Little Bourke, the laneways and Hardware Lane all seem to be busy. They have a couple of other shops too. You can find Traveller Coffee and the flagship for Seven Seeds in Carlton.

Overall, this little coffee shop was cute with great coffee. The star is definitely the coffee here. Well made with passion for sure. I also ordered a toastie, which as far as toasties go I would say was average. My order was a Salami and Chipotle toastie and I gotta say it did not look like this.... in fact it had cheese and I tasted no Chipotle.... but when I asked twice and the staff insisted it was indeed what I ordered I assumed maybe the cheese had a hint of Chipotle?? The place has very little seating both inside and outside so is best really for takeaway... and be aware, there's no toilet facilities here.

Took a stroll around the city on a hunt for some good coffee and stumbled upon this by accident. We ordered the long black and an oatmilk latte. Loved loved loved it! We know that coffee culture is big here but certainly, this is one of the best we have had in the CBD. While sipping away, saw a cute little frog 🐸 walked by! Interesting place for people watching on a lazy sunny Sunday afternoon. It is tucked away on a side street, away from the busy shopping crowd. Small and cozy and a lovely spot to meet up with friends.

I went there because this place was mentioned as one of the best coffee spots in Melbourne. I did enjoy a good cup of coffee, and a nice atmosphere. Altough, the place is packed and a bit small. I wouldn't say the best cup of coffee out there. Worth trying if you are nearby and looking for coffee, not worth getting out of your way to drink a cup here.

Why Melbourne is the Cafe Capital of the World. Not cheap but all quality and ambiance. Such a "super mini" space in the middle of the CBD, you can easily missed it. Location wise is not even a prominent foodie street (before these cafes turned up) and they managed to turn this "super mini" space into a non-stop coffee-hole, nearly; producing so much goodness on a daily basis, a quick escape and a cheap joy from the hustle and bustle of the City. Always a pleasant service, indy looking team member; lots of tattoos and beards here, it doesn't make a better Barista, just trendy. Always a challenge to find a seat and it's not because they are all hanging in the Ceiling either; expect to share table or go solo. This place is just like a beehive; Busy, Electric, Buzzing, Vibrant and just full of life, not too many small spaces in Melbourne can produced so much excitement, well done!
