A bustling and lively brunch spot! I loved the spacious interior and decor. The food itself was fantastic (especially the chilli scramble). The coffee was good but was somewhat bland. The staff were friendly and service was quick. Overall, a very enjoyable experience!

I live next door to the Code Black Coffee Roaster’s HQ, which situated in the upcoming and trendy area of Brunswick. The building is black with several white and one golden circle. On top of the entrance it says in capital letters “YOU HAVE ARRIVED”. That was the reason why I went there to drink my first coffee after my arrival in Melbourne. I enjoyed this first coffee in Australia, a washed Kenya from the Komothai Kirura washing station. The design of the building is minimalistic and raw; a great combination of black painted bricks, metal, natural polished stones. This time I went for a full brunch, and ordered a filter coffee, to start with. When the coffee arrived, its aroma stroke me immediately. ETHIOPIA URAGA WINE PROCESS ANAEROBIC FILTER. Normally, I am not a big fan of experimental processing methods, but this coffee was clean, with an intense sweetness, a complex, well-integrated acidity, an oily, coated texture, bold body, and a lingering aftertaste, and intense flavors. That was an amazing start. To eat I asked for the breakfast roll – bacon, fried egg, aged cheddar, house ketchup and aioli, tomato, lettuce on ciabatta. The presentation was beautiful, and it tasted great. All ingredients were well balanced, and the sauce gave it a magical touch. In Europe, it is very rare to see blends in specialty cafés. Here in Melbourne, it seems to be more common to serve blends as a house espresso. Therefore, I went for a flat white with their house espresso blend: 3056 ESPRESSO BLEND. 3056 is the postcode for the Code Black Roastery. It is a medium roast. The flat white was super sweet and smooth. Again, the milk texturing skills of the barista were amazing. And the espresso cut well through the milk. To round up my excellent experience, I ordered a Lemon, ginger, and mint fizz. I saw another client enjoying it and could not resist the tempting presentation. It was refreshing and mouthwatering, just perfect for a hot summer afternoon in Melbourne. All baristas and team members were friendly and served me with a great smile (under their masks). Thanks a lot. I am happy to come back and taste some more single origins.

Coffee obviously good. Food is ok. Breakfast roll not bad value. The salmon was a bit skimpy on portion size but at least not over cooked.

We were very pleased with our experience here, with both coffee and food. Very large warehouse including coffee roastery. Staff were friendly. Coffee selection was impressive. Even Managed to get shown around the place. When around, I would suggest you pop in ❤️💥🤲🏼

Intreating concept!… it’s a cafe shop with industrial inspiration. Minimalist and comfortable. They grind and pack their own coffee brand. Staff members are absolutely gorgeous, accommodating, friendly, sweet… I felt really welcomed and well treated. There’s a parking area a few meters away, belongs to Coles.

Excellent coffee beans for home and excellent coffee to enjoy away from home! I enjoy ex-wife coffee beans at home with almond milk. If you stay here for a coffee I suggest to sit outside or in the front section during warm days as the rear section is quite warm to sit within…overall this place is an excellent option to enjoy by coffee lovers.

Code Black is a typical industrial-style cafe in Melbourne, renowned for roasting coffee beans. The cafe's distinguishing feature is its departure from the conventional Melbourne brunch style in terms of their meals. Their dishes are characterized by strong and bold flavors, heavy on spices. This makes it an intriguing choice for those who are seeking a unique culinary experience. In general, the taste of the food is acceptable, especially for those who enjoy bold and robust flavors. It's worth noting that the prices have increased compared to the pre-pandemic period, and the portion sizes of their dishes have also decreased somewhat.

Amazing coffee, good food and friendly staff! The coffee is the real selling point here, but the food was great too. I had scrambled eggs on toast with their smoked salmon remoulade? (Called something like that) which was very nice and a decent serving size. Eggs cooked nicely, not overdone which is common for brunch places. My friend had the pork banh mi which she also really liked. A large venue with lots of seating both indoors and outdoors.

Went to Code Black for the first time this week and was pleasantly surprised at not only how amazing the coffee and hot chocolate was, but also the delicious breaky burger. The service was on point, the seating was spread out so we didn’t feel like anyone was sitting on top of us. Would definitely recommend for a relaxing vibe and full belly!

Just had their Koji batch brew coffee. Intensely aromatic with the smell of fresh chocolate and a very smooth, light and delicate taste. I urge any coffee lovers to try.

We’ve been using Code Black coffee beans consistently since we started living in Melbourne and we realised we probably should head over to their cafe and try some of the food they have because they’re always pretty busy when we walk past! I think we’ve been back a few times for food and it’s always been great! This was the Harissa Eggs and they were so delicious.

First stop post lockdown and did not regret it at all. Loved the roasted cauliflower, and their coffee. Even though they were fully booked, service was on point, friendly staff and very sleak interior setup in a warehouse setting. Loved the sign "You've arrived " welcoming you to your destination.

Have been here before. Always busy and have never been disappointed. Enough seating so you never have to feel rushed. Friendly and efficient service. Ordered Burrata Toast and Chilli Crab Scramble plus coffees. Both were well balanced, well seasoned and very tasty. Great coffee.

A great place to hang out with friends. Loved the atmosphere. Ample seating available. But better to reserve before hand on a weekend if you are a big group. They have a wide range of food and drinks especially different types of interesting coffee mixers. The food is delicious. Friendly staff and good service.

Good coffee, and helpful staff. Very attentive. Single origin lots of flavour. We took our dog and there were other dogs! What more could you want?! Great time.

The food was bad. The pork belly sandwich was oily and bland. The sausage on the Benny had a horrible smoke flavour and smell that ruined the whole dish. The smell was so unpleasant it made me feel nauseated. The base had a strange rubbery yet soggy texture. It was $70 for a coffee, a hot chocolate, and the food, which felt way too expensive for a deeply disappointing meal. The atmosphere was cool and the staff were friendly, but the food was so bad I would not go back. The coffee was fine.

Went there to catch up with an old friend this morning for some brunch, and we had a lovely time. The waitress was so lovely, she introduced the single origin options very articulately and we were so thankful we tried her suggested award winning beans that tasted so sweet and fruity! The food was ok, very generous portion but flavour wise could have been more punchy. The hotcakes was bomb though. Pricing wise, worth every cents for the coffee, a bit overpriced for the food but hey overall it was all great and definitely will come back again for more 😀

Came here for Sunday breakfast. Lots of table seating with a very slick and cool interior with a fine dining feel. Ordered the 'Benedict' which was delicious, it had a nice combination of the runny poached egg and pork sausage pattie which was balanced with the cabbage. The 'Potato Chive Rosti with Mushrooms' and sweetness of the roasted onions went well with the saltiness of the bacon. It's a good dish when shared. Coffee for me was average, it lacked the strong punchy flavour I was hoping for and the milk was lukewarm. Will definitely come back to try more items (+ pastries) and perhaps a cheeky cocktail.

Coffee and food here is consistently great. Atmosphere is also very unique, and staff are very kind and attentive. Prices are a bit punchy but still much more affordable than other specialty roasters in the area, and you get what you pay for. Would definitely recommend - especially for coffee connoisseurs.

Easy to book before we went for brunch. Loved that. Obviously, being a Sunday it was very busy. But we did not feel ignored. Our orders was taken quickly and a food came in time as well. Overall excellent service. The food was great. I got the Hickory smoked trout with kedgeree which I would highly recommend. It was spiced well without being pungent. The mint yogurt was just *chef's kiss*

Came in just for drinks - well we would’ve snacked on a bowl of chips, but they don’t do fries. The ex-wife is a cold brew & is suppose to have a hint of coconut, but that could not be tasted. It is not to my likening. Very strong/bitter tasting. The Brunswick fog was delicious. And then there’s the standard flat white.

Came here for Linner around 3 found seating straight away and was able to still order breakfast items. Great service, good is good. Couldn’t decide from many options went for the old faithful with sides. Been coming here for years, always solid coffee, food and service - consistently good

Friendly staff who kindly took my photo outside the cafe! Sad the sparkling water isn’t complimentary but everything was so nice! Had the cold brew which was on the single origin Ethiopian and it even came with a dried mandarin slice which was an added perk! The merchandise is very cute too, especially the red tote bag and the sweatshirt that says “wide awake” .

Love Code Black coffee and this is their mothership. Loads of seating available inside in the large warehouse space, and seating outside too. Wonderful service, amazing food & coffee, and fantastic atmosphere - not many cafes can offer the perfect Trifecta! They also accept bookings online, perfect for busy times.

First time trying Code Black coffee and we've pretty impressed so far. They have put a great deal of thought and care into their packaging which is awesome. With so many great coffee Roasters in Melbourne, these guys certainly hold their own. They also provided great customer service via email. Looking forward to trying more of their beans.

Was here during afternoon tea time and only ordered a hot chocolate, but I must say the hot chocolate was superb - Rich but not too sweet, and cool presentation as well (served in a ceramic pourer). The place has a cool dark interior and also an outdoor area that is great for bringing the dogs along.

Very stylish modern Melbourne cafe. Coffee is excellent as expected, well brewed and strong bean taste. Staff are friendly and lots of parking outside. Definitely want to come back and try their food.

Great coffee selection! The brews were delicious. Options that worked well for my stronger taste and for my partners smoother preference. The Mushroom meal was delicious, and the chickpea dish balanced it perfectly. We were served by an absolutely brilliant waitstaff, who gave great suggestions on helping us decide.

What a great coffee! Highly recommended to visit. But try to make a reservation before coming. I had to wait around 20 minutes to get a table. The food is good but thought it is quite pricy.

Some of the best specialty coffee beans in Melbourne. Bought beans here several times and everything I've tried has been a hit. Staff are always friendly and helpful too.

Last time when I arrived here around 4pm, I couldn’t had the food. Because the kitchen was closed at that time. So I visited here before working. It was my first House crumpet! It’s tasty! I love their atmosphere:)
