I came here to try their flat white and it was amazing! The coffee had a smooth, creamy texture and strong, rich flavor, thanks to the seven seeds. The atmosphere was also really pleasant and relaxing. Highly recommended!

Lovely experience here. Great customer service from the waiting staff. Nice environment and I always want to try sitting upstairs. Maybe next time. They have nice batch brew coffee comes with a little cue card description to let you know what you are drinking. Nice selection of food. Although the “green eggs” breakfast was a little disappointing because it wasn’t warm enough with the “green” sauce and eggs. Otherwise I still recommend coming here for a nice breakie or brunch.

Cool looking cafe, concrete floors, warehouse feel and staff all in black. Nice at first glance. I went for breakfast. Coffee and Kale, mushrooms, rosti dish. I like coffee strong, deep and rich. Coffee here is a little mellower than I prefer. Also I prefer warm/hot coffee. Code Black follows more of the luke warm/warm stretched milk trend. While not the style for me, if you like it that way you will enjoy the coffee here. The Kale, mushroom, rosti dish looks beautiful. Kale is tasty and not over cooked, oyster mushrooms are nicely seasoned (and great to get oyster mushrooms rather than just regular mushrooms). The cauliflower puree is tasty as is the burnt onion sauce. All very flavoursome. However... individually tasty but when combined as a whole dish it didn't quite work. Also the rosti was quite stodgy ( I prefer the grated potato style rather than the mashed style here) Seating looks cool but not very comfortable. Smaller round tables are attached to the wall, so you can't sit in the middle but a weird angle that is not that comfortable when eating. Staff are relatively professional but would benefit from being more engaging

Coffee as expected is good here. Can’t go wrong with the sandwiches as the serving sizes are reasonable. They’re well made and nothing really to fault. The interior is really pleasing and nice to have a slow coffee and just watch dog walkers go by.

Great food with multicultural elements, like Korean kimchi and Philly cheesesteaks. However, just a friendly reminder, seasoning bottles don’t have labels, and in the meanwhile, I’m having salted flat white now. Lol :)

This place does coffee really well. Picked up a utterly divine single origin - some really unique flavours. Also given a small side of hot water to make your long black how you like it which is a lovely touch. The scramble was tasty. Will be back.

Had really good experience here! Even they were about to close within an hour yet refilled and made new batch brew for us, really lovely coffees! I got the Colombia Finca Juan Martin, Star, Cauca, Natural batch brew Coffee. With profile red berry, cherry, cocoa and rose flavours. Intense sweetness but not overwhelming! Tasty!

Fantastic spot that was open early on a Sunday! We had a delicious breakfast of eggs and bacon. The hotcakes were also delicious. Their coffee was delicious! Highly recommend! The staff were very friendly also and they had lots of coffee beans for sale and merchandise Will be back!

Not sure of the food as we went for coffee takeout and it was Okish. For $19 the coffee and mocha was very average. Pretty much couldn’t tell the difference between two and the aftertaste was not very pleasant. Place looked cozy. Maybe food might better I guess but coffee wise not our favourite place.

I liked the upstairs dining area. Code black had a fairly limited menu- I struggled to find a dish for lunch. Food was a bit overpriced for what we got, eggplant was very oily. Strange downstairs orientation - some parts are quite open warehouse style and others are super squashed....there is a narrow pathway to squeeze thru if you are heading for the toilets ( Judy and Jacks) Apparently ( printed on the bottom of current drinks menu) this place has a ghost👻- didn't see anything spooky, but that was the most interesting thing about Code Black

Coffee is good although its price is 6 dollars. The stuff is not friendly at all.

This morning we had breakfast at code black north Melbourne on Howard street. Place was a little busy around 9am. Coffee at code black is always good. I ordered the middle eastern fried eggs, the dish was well presented and really tasty. Portion was big enough to fill me up. My partner had the ricotta hot cakes, feedback was really good. Not too sweet and really good hot cakes. The price for the coffees and the two dishes was $63 which is fair this days. Only downside for me was the tables are quite small. I like the Brunswick cafe place better because of the setting and tables but this is my personal preference.

I came to know this place through some food blogger. So, we added this place to our list during the trip to Australia. The breakfast here is so good. We ordered their famous Harissa scrambled eggs and toast. It’s was absolutely delicious 🤤👌🏻 A spicy but the sour crème helped to neutralize the hotness of the sauce. The chai latte was crème and well presented. The staff here are good. They check on you to make sure they make you feel comfortable eating there. Must give a try if you’re visiting Melbourne CBD.

Great coffee place! I really enjoyed cappuccino, it was creamy. Mug is fashionable, therefore I bought for my friend’s birthday present. Decor is also nice, I wanna enjoy dining in next time!

Always great coffee and good food. Love the pastries here too. Had the lamb sandwich which was a bit too meaty but delicious. Had a social catch up and was never rushed out too so thank you for that!

I’ve been coming here since this branch opened. Food, coffee and service is consistently excellent. The succulent lamb shoulder sandwich was outstanding.

Great Food, great coffee! One of our go to places when we are in the area. Won't be disappointed. Do expect a short wait on weekends. Best on sunny warm days! They open all the big sliding windows and it's lovely. On cold days, it's not the most comfortable place as it a bit on the colder side (especially if you have kids).

Coffee was average, but the slow cooked beef toastie was literally amazing and properly priced. It was pretty busy when I visited there (Saturday lunch time),however, the staff members were generally nice, well presented not as those of other brunch cafes in Melbourne. I am willing to try other food and coffee next time! Satisfying choice!

Been coming back here for years. Always incredible. My favourite meal is the hotcakes because they are gluten free and the flavour changes each season. Delicious! Excellent decaf too.

Gooood good and coffeeee. Coffee was smoooooth. Highly recommend. Food was good too! Had the pork belly - it was super tender. What made it all the better was the mash, the vegetables and the sauce with it. The roasted vege to me was the standout of the dish. Nicely caramelized and well cooked. I suppose overall it could do with a touch more salt, or some balsamic vinegar to give a touch more tartness. But otherwise - a good dish. My mates completely enjoyed it. I could be just picky. 😜 The chai latte though - was an absolute disappointment. Stick to the coffee. You won’t go wrong with this roaster. Also had the cold brew to go - that was the bombs! 😋😋😋

Amazing Coffee! One of the best in town in my opinion. Delicious food offerings as well. We gave all the coffee a try. A spro, flat white, long black and filter and i am blown away by each one of them. Give them a try!

My friend and I arrived at 11.30am. We were seated at a dirty table. Nobody came to wipe it down. We ordered straight away but watched as 2 other tables, that were seated and ordered food AFTER us, were served their food BEFORE us. One table even finished eating and left before we were served. When we finally received our food at 12.15pm, my friend tried to make a light joke about the wait and asked “Busy day in the kitchen?” The waiter shrugged and said “Nope not really” We then explained how long the wait had been and the waiter didn’t even offer an apology. He just said “Okay I’ll check” Check on what, we never found out, because he never came back to the table. After many attempted waves we managed to get another waiter to take our order for a second coffee with our meal. One coffee was delivered, the other wasn’t. Ordered the second coffee again and which was plonked down on our table by a third waiter who didn’t say a word. We finally finished up around 12.40pm. We were charged a 10% weekend surcharge, an extra 80c per oat milk coffee and an extra $1 per almond milk coffee. Excessive considering most Melbourne cafes don’t bother with weekend surcharges and only charge around 50c for alt milks. At the checkout, the eftpos machine was slammed down in-front of us, we were not asked how our experience was, but my friend wanted to provide feedback since the whole thing had been kind of laughable. The waiter couldn’t care less, he was completely dismissive and every issue we brought up was shrugged off with a monotone “yup sorry guys” 😒 I guess this is just what you get and is to be expected at this place. Food was great though.

Classically good brunch food. Could've done with a little more salt. Was a little disappointed my orange juice came out of a bag.

Coffee was gorgeous as usual ! However, the visit this time was absolute unpleasant. Attitude by one of the lady looking after our table with 6 people attempted to provide Salt and Pepper by just standing there and stare at you without asking (whilst asking all other customers), constant critiques of where our belongings should be without offering the best solution...... Was very racist overall compare to the way she treat to other customers and it was something really sad to see recent days.

Finally got to visit the Code Black North Melbourne HQ and although the menu is a bit different (c.f. Brunswick), it was equally as tasty. The coffee, you already know its good. In terms of food I had the avocado toast featuring some sort of nori butter (which was actually so so good). The service was by far a standout. Staff were so friendly and accommodating to our group who had young children with us, ensuring we had a safe environment to enjoy the food with them. Oh and they're animal friendly (outdoor seating too!

Coffee: Excellent. Food: Had the scrambled eggs with chilli butter with extra bacon and potato tots - Good serving and super tasty, not too spicy. Staff: Got us seated, smiling, attentive. All good.
