Except for the terrible bartenders, everything was exquisite. Recommended by one of my friends, visited this club last Sunday night on 30 Oct 2022 and did enjoy the band’s performance. The vibe and music were exactly how I wished. The thing is the two bartenders were surprisingly novice and they ended up making us stand and wait for our cocktails for 20 minutes since the show started. This wasn’t just because they were not skilled enough, but because the one with glasses on and ponytail was training the other beginner bartender, which I strongly believe is not appropriate and acceptable at all. Shouldn’t you have found some other time for the training? After the 20 minutes of waiting, as I complained that we had waited for that much time for three cocktails, then she did not apologize for anything but said she couldn’t help with it. I wouldn’t normally leave a complaining review but I sensed unnecessary hostility from the bartender with the least service-minded attitude. She gave us the unwelcoming look and vibe which is pretty unforgettable. Would like to recommend future visitors to order beers instead of cocktails to prevent any waste of time or ruining the night out.

Amazing amazing amazing. The ambiance, the music, the talent, the wine, the lighting, the feeling, the everything was absolutely 100% pure magic. I can't believe I've lived here my entire life and never been here before. This incredible gem will become a regular occurrence for us now. The NSBB were outstanding. Just...there aren't enough words. Wow.

What a joy... we found this place and would have wanted to visit many more times... Two small scenes, very cozy, high quality and an amazing joy by everyone. Thank you. Keep the music alive.

Jazz just for itself should always get 5 stars. This is a 2x1 club. With one stage on lower floor and another one on upper floor. Quality music nights, diversity is the tone of the house. 3 bars, simple food, perfect portuons to share. A place to enjoy a very nice evening.

We booked the table and visited Paris Cat Jazz Club on a Thursday night. The ticket didn’t include charge of beverages and foods so we made the order after entering the place. The performance was really good. All the musicians were very professional than I expected for a casual night out. It was a lovely encounter to discover Paris Cat.

Have been here a few times and have absolutely loved every single time! It’s a true hidden gem and one I pray and hope will be here for many more years to come. The atmosphere, the layout, the drinks, the ambience and most of all the talent they host here is just amazing! If you like jazz or similar music please go here!! It’s an experience that is unforgettable

Fantastic little place to visit. Great aesthetic, really really nice staff. Multiple stages with a wonderful rotation of talented musicians. My only complaint would be the seating arrangement if you're looking for something a little more intimate. Seating at tables is shared and can get a little bit cramped depending on where you are placed and what level you are on. Would be good to add this information into the F.A.Q on their site as I had no idea before hand.

This place is wonderful, music is so good, and of course the atmosphere is fantastic. I went straight with whisky all night, cocktails looks good and pizzas as well. But I didn't try anything of that. Don't forget to buy tickets before you go there, shows most of the time are sold out.

I like Paris Cat because it is an intimate live Jazz venue with some really interesting shows. It’s not big or fancy but it’s atmospheric, intimate and moody. Their pizza is very yummy too.

Very comfy place. The drinks are fine. The performance on the night was delightful. The barman might have had an off night as he seemed very standoffish and looked down his nose at our orders. I like a little water with my whisky. So what?

The performance was perfect however the we had to share our table with two other strangers, and you can not pick your own table during the booking time. And also the food is not ideal.

Awesome music, however the clubs cramped seating kills any enjoyment. Especially when you share a table with inconsiderate manspreaders. If you actually used tables designed for four, probably OK. I would rather pay more for a seat than share a two seater table with four people. Currently, wouldn’t recommend.

Jazz in our masked up era is a good thing. Especially Tamara Kuldin swinging with Mildred at the Paris Cat. Some great Ella and Louie tunes. And the Pinot Grigio is a jazz-worthy additive.

Paris cat is a very quaint and elegant. Loved the interior. However it's quite small, wish it could have been larger to fit in more people. Besides that, I loved the spot.

Stumbled upon this hidden secret while walking the streets . Fantastic live music and intimate atmosphere. The share plate for two was a perfect compliment to the cocktail and drink menu. We were swept away and taken through a journey of jazz and blues.

My first jazz club, heard a lot of the locals say it was one of the best but they've not had the need to try anywhere else! Defo worth it - I recommend booking before as I was lucky enough to get a spot - all other gigs were fully booked!!

Small, suitably bijou joint where the only thing missing was the cigarette smoke from jazz clubs of old. Quaint. Booking essential as it is so compact. Each 1.5/2 hour band/group has a different audience so don't presume you can park up for the night! Different jazz styles for different tastes so do your research before randomly booking.

This place was my favourite in Melbourne. Great acts if you are a fan of Jazz, perfect size/ nice sounding rooms- I did enjoy the barstools more than the seated tables though!. Cheerful/ helpful/talented bar-staff, particularly Talia- would recommend 100 percent if you are a (Jazz fan) local or travelling through Melbourne!

What a little gem. Found this place via a Google search for jazz venues in Melbourne and wasn't disappointed. Saw a fabulous little tribute act to Simon and Garfunkel and loved the small and intimate environment.

Wow what a gem of a venue. From the moment you enter just a perfect eclectic pure jazz experience. All you would expect dim lights, old school cocktails 🍸 , club feel acoustics and great tunes up on stage. We saw an Eva Cassidy tribute act which was very entertaining. Food was take it or leave it quality but that isn’t why you go there.

Very cool intimate jazz club in the heart of CBD Melbourne. Seven piece jazz band with three horns, piano, base, drummer and leader, Chris Johnstone on guitar. I booked a comfortable seat on the side and had a great view of the musicians. Sound was fantastic and small pizza was delicious. Will definitely go back on my next trip to Melbourne.

A well presented venue. We were on the top floor for the event we saw. There is a well stocked bar and a food menu that is adequate for purpose. Sits about 70 people at compact tables. The performers are right there with you.

Never been to a Jazz club before but would highly recommend this one! Relaxing bar if you get there early. Upstairs is quite squishy but it adds to the atmosphere. The band were fantastic and I would definitely go again and attend other Jazz clubs around the country because of this experience. Thank you Paris Cat.

Great little spot for intimate quality music. A selection of reasonable drinks and food make this little venue very classy. This has become one of my favorite spots for a great night out, well worth a visit.

  • 5/5 Graham R. 4 years ago on Google
Great venue with fantastic music and atmosphere. Bookings recommended to avoid disappointment. There are two performance spaces, one upstairs and one in the basement, both offering table seating and drinks from a bar. In between is a cozy cafe offering food and more drinks. Staff are friendly and helpful.

  • 3/5 Minh H. 4 years ago on Google
The music was good, but didn't expect that we would have to sit with complete strangers in the same table. The strangers were also shock and rude because no one informed them that all tables were for sharing (And no staffs were available on the upper floor to assist us with that situation). The cocktails were average. The room was crowded and the view was limited. If you just want to listen to some Jazz, this place would be ideal. If you were looking for a place for a romantic date, I would suggest somewhere else.

As someone new to the jazz scene, I can't describe how amazing it was to see a big band play live and in such an intimate, cozy setting. The Paris Cat band played brilliantly, with a few young players being highlighted as well, which was awesome to see. Loved the vibe, loved the bar service and overall I couldn't recommend seeing the Paris Cat band enough.

Gr8 vibe. Intimate armosphere. Best management with Liz Carnovale at the helm. Super-friendly staff. BUT tonight was topped off seeing Jess Young jazz singer at this gr8 venue, backed by David Gooey with his benson-esque super-guitar skills. Awesome little club I stumbled upon this randomly. Listen to a jazz band that played Charles Mingus and it was a lot of fun. Good selection of wines I had a pizza also, which was not bad but the entertainment was first class. If you're looking for something to do on a lazy Wednesday, I highly recommend the experience. Entry was $25 this night and I would love to experience this again.

Dropped in and spent the evening with Nora. We had a lovely night listening to french jazz and the classic. The atmosphere was upbeat and the candlit tables was a nice romantic touch. The room is a modest size and for a jazz club it is not something to put your nose up about, it adds to the intimacy of the overall experience. If you ever find yourself in need of smooth tunes and a glass of red, this venue is a must!

I hired this place out for my music video. The service by the young guy was horrific, he was so disrespectful and yelled at me thinking I was going behind the bar when I already had permission prior on the phone to the owner. He needs to learn manners ad respect because I PAID to hire that and expect the service and help. He was too much in a rush to do his homework at home, that is not my problem. DO YOUR JOB PROPERLY, educate yourself on respect maybe first LOL.

This was the first jazz bar I’ve been to since moving to Melbourne and it’s by far my favourite. The warmth and the heart that this place keeps you coming back time after time. Very unassuming from the outside, exactly what you want from a jazz bar. The staff are always so lovely and I just love being in a place where they clearly love to work. It really makes the experience for me- you can tell they enjoy jazz themselves.

Ruth and her interpretation of Niña was beautiful . My favourite songs she performed were See-Line Woman , Plain Gold Ring , Little Girl Blue and Baltimore all powerful and intense . Her tribute she wrote for her mother was gorgeous. Each band member was super brilliant true professionals , and each solo improvisation was exceptional from classical to smouldering blues . A soulful evening and it felt like we were transported a Jazz Bar in New York again . When she sang ‘Baltimore’ I felt I was on the set of The Wire . The place is unpretentious . It’s raw and intimate , and honest . Really good sound too . No mixing . Dulcet tones . Just a perfect evening ♥️ and amazing hideaway place to experience .

Intimate jazz bar, conveniently located in the CBD (near Hardware Lane). Paris Cat serves food (e.g., pizza), nibbles and drinks so you can plan to have dinner there while enjoying the music. It’s a multi-level venue so two shows can play simultaneously. Because the space is quite cosy, you may find yourself sharing a table with fellow music fans and space can be quite tight. Other than that, it’s quite a nice spot to sit back and enjoy the music.

One of the highlights of our recent visit to Melbourne, caught a show in the basement. In between a steady flow of old fashioned cocktails was taken back by the quality of the jazz and the intimate surroundings. This is a must see place. Only criticism is the shared toilet in the basement was below standard.

As a lover of jazz and jazz bars I was hesitant to write this however I was extremely disappointed in my latest experience. We had booked a special birthday celebration for myself and my partner to enjoy, expecting a comfortable, intimate jazz experience with good food and drinks. After being seated, we were then joined by others at our table due to needing to share tables which was not mentioned on the website. We wouldn't mind, however getting anywhere from our table was very difficult and we had nowhere at all to put my partners handbag and umbrella, which we needed to store on our lap the entire time. We then went to order some Tapas for our table as it is mentioned on your site and on the menu in front of us, to be told the only thing available is pizza. Out of hunger, we ordered the pizza which was average at best as it was mainly just dough. If we wanted drinks, as mentioned it was very difficult to navigate through the tables and chairs to reach the bar to see a 10% surcharge for no table service and no choice of food. I then proceeded to order some wine to be told it's a different wine then on the menu, so I took it anyway. For the entire first set, music from upstairs was leaking through and could be heard both when the musicians were playing, and not. For the price paid for the tickets alone I really would have expected more from the venue. Add that to an uncomfortable experience and being misled, I must say it was a disappointing experience for an occasion we were hoping to really enjoy.
