Attended a Christmas get together here. Good looking well maintained traditional pub. Great pub food. Excellent location 1 minute walk from Auburn station.

Always thought of this place more as a bar than a restaurant. Used to have big Sunday sessions. Nice food, entrees and dessert was the stand out. Dad will enjoy the atmosphere, I certainly did. Could have a discussion without going deaf. The website had a gallery section for all the meals on the menu, excellent work.

Apon reading some mixed reviews I really didn’t know what to expect, well all I can say is GO and check it out, because our food and drinks were spectacular! The Parma was amazing!!! Honestly one of the best in Melbourne for sure. Staff are very well equipped even on busy days. Thanks for making our night special

This place has a nice atmosphere. We went in winter & it has that lovely dark pub appeal without smelling like the carpet is soaked in beer. Staff really helpful & friendly. They got some emergency pencils & paper for the kids. The prices were ok from memory & the food good quality.

Have not been to this venue in many years, very impressed with the new fit out and renovations, as well as the new name. The venue was very busy for Easter Sunday lunch, children everywhere enjoying themselves in the beer garden with a little animal farm set up as well as the Easter Bunny was visiting. Inside was warm and comfy, sitting in front of the open fire. Bar and wait staff friendly and professional. Good choices of beverages and the menu offerings were outstanding. Lunch was enjoyable, visually appealing, good portion sizes, and delicious. Steaks cooked to perfection, calamari melted in your mouth, and the crackling with the pork belly was a work of art as well as super crunchy. Had a great time here, well worth the visit.

Staff are fantastic, atmosphere lots of laughs good music, review based purely on food quality considering prices. I was not a fan of the side salad, very dry and mostly made up of just cos lettuce. Fish was decent, oysters mediocre would have enjoyed kilpatrick option. Caesar salad, no anchovies Kids meal for my 8yr old I switched out the salad for broccoli and mash, was decent. However I found out they allow outside food for children as long as it’s disposable. Espresso martini was mostly foam… Photos with captions and prices below.

Had dinner here with my daughter and grandkids last Sunday . This is one of those beautiful old pubs that it’s a pleasure to be in. Had a little glitch with the cooking of the steak that was well and truly overdone . To their great credit there was no hesitation replacing it. As far as food is concerned unfortunately it’s just a pub meal at a restaurant price . Not sure that I need to go back, but I’m not saying don’t go. Try it for yourself .

Booked a igloo and got surprised with the quality of food. When I booked it, igloo seating is a set menu option so I thought I probably just paying for the igloo as gimmick didn't have any expectation on food. Turns out it's totally delicious and worth the price! For $69 you get a 3 courses meal + special cocktail. On a rainy winter night, the igloo is surprisingly cozy. It has a heater and Bluetooth speaker inside. It feels very private too as no one else can hear you vice versa. Good experience!

Good local hotel with wide selection of beer and other drinks. Good counter meals. Nice old style building. Function rooms are available upstairs. There is an outdoor terrace area and a section with an open roof too. Kids play zone recently added. Can book a table online. Recommended.

I love big old pubs like the Auburn. You can feel the history oozing out of the place. I’d love to hear some of the stories. We are in the front bar and we were totally alone. No guests, no staff. The staff popped in a couple of times to take out drink order (not the greatest selection of beers) and food order (pork belly please!) The food came out promptly and the staff were friendly. My pork belly was full of flavour but it was fairly dry. The cabbage was devine and made an excellent pairing with the pork. I gobbled it all up.

A new favourite! Fantastic pub food - tasty and very generous portions. Everything was fresh and delicious and all of the meals coming out looked equally fab. Kitchen staff deserve a big pat on the back!! We came on a Sunday when the petting zoo was here - awesome idea and the kids just loved it. Will be back!!

We had a fantastic night dining at Auburn Hotel’s winter igloo experience as a group of 4. We were thoroughly impressed with the quality and volume of food on the 3-course shared menu and the staff went above and beyond to accomodate dietary requirements within our group. The service was very quick and attentive which made the igloo dining feel even more like an occasion. Thank you for such an enjoyable service, we can’t wait to return!

Absolutely amazing, what a delight. Why 4 stars? The app didn't work so we couldn't order more drinks. Aside from that, food was delicious, meticulously presented and despite thinking "I wonder if I'll be full?" It was VERY filling, I normally lick my plates clean (not literally) but couldnt wrap this one up. Service was great and friendly, checking if we can nice n warm. Price was incredible for what we got and the experience. The dome experience is something else, inside outside privacy! They have a Chromecast speaker so you can put your own music which was awesome! And on a Monday, no one was there so we had the whole place to ourself!

Nestled in the heart of Auburn, the Auburn Hotel stands as a beacon of charm, offering patrons a delightful blend of traditional pub ambiance and contemporary touches. With its warm atmosphere, friendly service, and quality food and drinks, this establishment provides a memorable experience for locals and visitors alike. Upon entering the Auburn Hotel, you'll be greeted by a cozy and inviting interior. The pub's classic architecture and rich wooden furnishings create an atmosphere that exudes character and comfort. The attentive staff members are quick to offer a warm welcome and are always on hand to assist with any queries or requests. One of the standout features of the Auburn Hotel is its impressive menu, which showcases a range of culinary delights crafted with a modern twist. From hearty pub favorites like burgers, fish and chips, and steaks, to more refined dishes featuring seasonal ingredients, there's something to satisfy every palate. The food is prepared with care and attention to detail, resulting in dishes that are not only delicious but also aesthetically pleasing. However, it's worth noting that the prices at the Auburn Hotel are slightly higher compared to some other pub establishments. While the quality of the food justifies the higher prices to some extent, it may be a consideration for those looking for more budget-friendly options. The pub also boasts an extensive selection of beverages, including a diverse range of local and international beers, wines, and spirits. Whether you're seeking a refreshing craft beer, a carefully curated wine, or a classic cocktail, the Auburn Hotel's bar has you covered. The knowledgeable bartenders are more than happy to recommend pairings and offer insights into the beverage selection. The Auburn Hotel further enhances the dining experience with its welcoming outdoor area. With its charming courtyard, complete with ample seating and leafy greenery, it provides a relaxed and inviting setting to enjoy your meal or drinks al fresco. It's an ideal spot to gather with friends or unwind after a long day. One minor aspect that could be improved is the occasionally busy and noisy environment, especially during peak hours. However, the attentive staff members do their best to maintain a comfortable atmosphere and ensure a pleasant experience for all guests. In terms of value, while the Auburn Hotel's prices for food may be slightly higher, considering the quality of the offerings, the overall experience and attention to detail make it a worthwhile investment for a special outing or when seeking a more elevated pub experience. In conclusion, the Auburn Hotel is a charming pub that seamlessly combines classic pub traditions with contemporary flair. With its inviting ambiance, delectable menu, and well-stocked bar, it provides a memorable dining experience. While the prices for the food may be slightly higher, the friendly staff, quality of the offerings, and overall value make the Auburn Hotel a top choice for those seeking a classic pub experience with a modern twist.

The new upgraded version of the classic Auburn hotel has clearly got off to a flying start, and looks great but unfortunately the owners have decided that technology is the way to go with diner’s having to do their own order! That’s all fine in a medium size place but a disaster in a big restaurant!!! Huge wait times and when the main course arrived it was dry and average! Pizzas were great and staff tried their best but the issue is that no one is in control as orders flood the kitchen all at one go!!

Great venue for a beer garden dinner and drinks in the sun. Drinks are trusty and all good is delicious! A quality Parma which is essential at a venue like this. Awesome that they embrace Melbourne culture with specialties like the igloo gardens in winter and the ‘happiest hour’ this January. We went on a hot day during the happiest hour and they were absolutely getting run off their feet, but all staff were professional and friendly despite how busy they were. Great work!

Spectacular gastropub food, great setting. Make sure to book a table on a Friday or Saturday night though, as it’s usually fully booked out with no space for walk ins. Easy QR code ordering if you wish, otherwise can order at the bar too. Fantastic service too! Their special dessert, the Baked Alaska, was literally Michelin level worthy.

The service was great, the team there were excellent. We went for a Steak night special, it wasn't very special. My steak was tough as an old boot. The mushroom arancini were good along with the flat bread and dips. My partner's Greek Salad (Add chicken) was uneatable. Don't think we'll be going back.

I came to the Auburn hotel to catch up with a friend. I felt like a steak, and was shocked to see 200g eye fillet for $61.. I asked for no chips but extra salad. It was sad and over priced. the atmosphere was depressing in what would normally be a buzzing pub which I ate at in 2021. for a glass of wine and a piece of steak for $84, ill be heading to Angus and Bon or even somewhere else upmarket for a better feed for the same price. Im sorry guys but do better.

$25 steak night at the Auburn Hotel. Worth the visit. Ordering from our table via an app, with delivery of drinks and food very quickly. Nicely cooked medium-rare steak with sides. And a good selection of beers, wines and other drinks. The place was packed and the atmosphere on a warm summer evening was easygoing. Go again? For sure.

We went for a birthday dinner. We were disappointed, particularly with the food. The calamari was not crispy. The parma was thick and dry. The burger was average. The service was great. And the kids' slide looked fun. But in my opinion they need to get a better chef or otherwise improve on the food, particularly for the higher than average pub prices they are charging.

The Auburn is a great local venue. The latest extension has only added to the ambiance of the venue. Extremely family friendly with the new kids playground. Food is always great and the pizza’s just complement the menu in a casual family friendly way. The management has been exceptional in this new venture. Regards to Scott , Holly and James for always talking the time to say hello. Definitely recommend, best Venue in Hawthorn!

We’re here on holidays and stumbled across this great pub, which lucky for us was at the bottom of the street we’re staying in. We booked a couple of table to accompany the 20 or so people in our family and we needed wheelchair and pram space. Heather the manager that showed us around the venue was so accommodating and helpful and super friendly. We all arrived at the same time and the family were very happy with the choice of venue. Ordering the food from the QR code menu system was simple and the food came out super quick. The food itself was great and the Wagyu Beef Tartare was insanely good and I’d say the best I have eaten! The wine list was small but with great wines available. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the time we spent here. I’d like to say a HUGE thank you to Heather, Josh, Chris and all the super friendly and attentive staff, as well as the Chef Team for serving up delicious meals. We’ll certainly be back on out next trip to Melbourne. Cheers Chris

Only came here for a beer so can’t speak for the food, but there’s a decent selection of beers here. It was disappointing to only find 2 or so craft beers here with Balter and Stone & Wood being on offer but those are great choices. Got one of those and a Guinness and those never disappoint. The ambience of the pub is great with many tv screens available to watch some sport and it has a classic pub feel.

Food was beautiful and the venue itself is superb. The service was quite slow and we did have to ask for wine and also ask the girls to take our order. That said they were polite and very attentive after this.

I love the setting of the igloos, it’s pretty cool and works well for winter, we were warm eventhough it was cold and windy outside. Very glad staff always close the igloo when they go out. Staff are very friendly. Our entree was really nice, very accommodating for a friend who has dietary restriction. It was a generous entree amount, I was actually getting close to full just eating entree. There was a big time gap between entree and main dish, I don’t know whether staff were just short and we were forgotten. I guess being in the igloo, it’s kinda hard to call staff, except we get out of igloo. Main were rather disappointing to me. Steak was ok, I have had better although I like the sauce. Fish was ok. The side dishes of veggies like the wombok and carrot were very bland, it’s like no seasoning at all. I just feel overall the main isnt as good as entree. Dessert was ok, cake was burned on the side. It was a simple dessert which was ok but maybe could do something else to make it more wow. I wasnt a fan of the campari spritz I had, it was really strong and bitter. So my impression is that this place is great to hang out with friends, because it is kinda private insite igloo to chat, and a different experience great for winter. For the meal and drinks, $69 gave us a lot of foods but main and dessert were nothing special, which can be improved because you have lovely ingredients, just not the right seasoning. So I feel it is more about the experience, good for casual special occasion like hens day but food not good enough for romantic occasion or if you wanna have really good foods.

I had higher hopes for this place. It wasn't a complete let down but it certainly had some room for improvement. Chips were undercooked & a bad choice of cut for a pub. Nobody was happy with their parmas(too dry & bad sauce). The steak wasn't too bad but they were over priced for what you got. The mushroom risotto was nice, no complaints there! If your not that hungry beforehand then you will be satisfied.

We had an extended family lunch there today. Good food and lovely staff but like many at the moment obviously understaffed as food and drinks took longer than ideal. In saying that the staff were lovely. I loved that there was an area for people to bring along their pups. Great to see. Thoroughly entertained watching the puppies through the window. Would definitely recommend.

Love the igloo setting, it was so cozy during a rainy night. However, the food did not match the aesthetics unfortunately. The best dishes were the oysters and the side salad. Besides that, the steak was very bland (even with sauce) and tough, it was cooked unevenly; cod fish was supposed to be silky when cooked properly, but it wasn’t, and again, no flavour. Cabbage was awful; carrots and chips just tasted like average carrots and chips. I couldn’t believe these were cooked by a chef… The staffs and their service wasn’t particularly outstanding, we felt rushed and annoyed that the waiters came in and cleared the table in short time intervals, when they could clearly tell we were not done yet. Very disappointed 😞😞 I wouldn’t return for the average-low quality of food for sure, but I do recommend to experience the igloo once.

Wagyu burger was ...cold/lukewarm . Sticky date pudding was.. burnt/ chewy top (likely reheated tad too long in the microwave) Porterhouse was done well. Chips that came with the main were too vinegary. (Pre-seasoned)

Three of us enjoyed dinner outside, table service with QR codes worked really well and wait staff were really hard working and on the ball. Drinks were served within ten minutes of ordering they were very busy so that was impressive. The ordering system and communication between staff on the floor, kitchen/ bar with their ear pieces clearly works a treat, well done. So many other venues need this yesterday!!! We had schnitzels which were fine but the highlight for us were the cauliflower croquettes and halloumi entrees. Flavour bombs 👌

  • 2/5 Tara L. 9 months ago on Google
We arrived at 8pm for dinner and got told to order straight away as the kitchen was closing in two minutes. Then the chicken on my salad was cold and dry, as though pre cooked. And the impromptu meat raffle was announced with a cattle whistle from the other side of the pub. Not a very tasty dinner unfortunately. But the interior is nice and you can sit near the open fire.

  • 4/5 Marcel B. 1 year ago on Google
The entrée were the highlight for our meals, despite being expensive for what they were at least they were very much enjoyed by everyone at the table, we shared the haloumi, dips and arancini. The mains were large and enjoyable, however the pork belly came with a chunk of cabbage that we ended up leaving as it wasn't very pleasant. The pork belly itself was nice, but not very filling given I couldn't eat the cabbage which was half the plate. The chicken parma was brilliant as you would expect as was the fish'n'chips. I really liked the look of the desserts, but unfortunately the party I was with had to leave before I had time.

After having my grandmothers wake at the Geebung in 2007, our family chose to stick with tradition and hold my Mum’s wake at the Auburn. Holly the functions coordinator was outstanding in her manner of communication in the lead-up to the event and then the bar and wait staff were excellent on the day. It was a low key affair, but I was delighted with the day. Thank you to all of the Auburn staff concerned.

  • 3/5 Emily A. 5 months ago on Google
Do not order the calamari or the chicken tenders here. Both are lacking in flavour which is disappointing considering the price tag. Better off just buying frozen food and cooking it at home… This place has nice bathrooms though

Great spot especially after recent renovations, good atmosphere, comfortable and plenty of different seating options. Two issues, both of which are probably common to most places these days so still a good venue. Firstly, table service was a bit hectic with staff taking food to wrong tables and we had to ask for a missing drink twice before it arrived. Secondly, the price of drinks is a bit too high - $22 for large glass of white wine that’s a $10 bottle shop purchase, and $6-7 for small soft drinks. If this came down a bit it would help families looking for a good night out at the local.

As locals we have visited the main building of the auburn hotel multiple times and the staff were always incredibly attentive, serving up a menu that was limited but well done. Having made a booking in the new pavilion area, we were quite excited to go for my partners birthday. However, it was unfortunately a bit of a let down. The seating is just packed way too tight together despite the large space and the small table we were originally sent to was squeezed in amongst several other large groups. It didn’t make any sense, neither of us could hear ourselves speak and simply weren’t comfortable so requested to move. (We noticed multiple other guests making the same request after us) Staff accommodated the move which we were grateful for but it was pretty difficult actually tracking them down. They were good kids, doing their best but struggling to cope with the volume of people and clearly lacking a proper system to follow from management. The food was fine but combined with the self service QR code ordering and the frantic staff system, our brief stay felt so impersonal. Just another number shoved through the door, to be booted out as quickly as possible. Upon closer inspection, there also seemed to be a few elements in the new space that had been rushed and wasn’t overly keen on seeing the silver insulation packing and raw wooden beams in the roof above us, while eating. I get that they are going for the rustic look but there’s a fine line between that and an incomplete building site. The last disappointment was the lack of any communication from the team, both via social media and their primary email. I reached out quite a few times regarding the booking and a tiny request for my partners birthday but heard nothing back. I say all this ultimately with no disrespect but to be constructive. We want the local spot be as great as it can, as I’m sure management do. Hope this is useful anyway. P.S scrap the chocolate fondant and bring back the sticky date. We all know it’s way better ;)

Wow! Auburn Hotel knows how to turn on a great Christmas Day lunch. For 2023, we booked for outside under cover so that our dog could join us. Maybe not too everyone's surprise Melbourne turned on a super storm. Did Auburn Hotel blink? Not in the slightest. Although it was a bit wet underfoot at times, we enjoyed a great day. The three courses of the menu were generously delicious, crafted for the occasion while still respecting a more traditional repas. Let's talk about the service. There is no superlative that will adequately describe the service we received. Our food arrived in a perfectly measured and timely way indicating that the kitchen had things well under control at ours, the third sold out sitting of the day. The wait staff were amazing, very friendly and even seemed genuinely interested in us. Ours was a fantastic Christmas Day thanks to the team at the Auburn Hotel!

One of the best children friendly pubs I've been to. Gated playground onsite, outside & inside seating. Menu has a decent selection and drinks menu offers variety. Accepts large booking (ours was 16 plus children), space for prams as well. Parking available in the surrounding streets (just make sure you read the signage correctly and you're not in a permit zone).

I wonder if the chef and service team ever taste their meals... all 4 meals were dreadful last night. Galette was chewy and ordinary Chicken was tasteless and obviously had been microwaved and was served on a horrible peas base Calamari was oily, and served on what looked like tomato paste The barramundi was ok, but served with an inedible fennel side, and a chewy stale base... ugh! This is my local that I have been eating at for years.. has the chef changed? Suggest they order their own meals and see what I mean. Too expensive at $114 for the meals with 1 glass of wine only

Mothers Day Lunch - the BEST! The team @ Auburn Hotel offered a roast pork luncheon available through Uber Eats. My beautiful daughter collected and delivered a very special meal. Meat was very tender and tasty. Roast vegetables were cooked exactly as I love them with broccolini, beans and cauliflower in sauce and a mix of roasted vegetables. The meal was hot on delivery as pick ups were timed well. Thank you team - the highlight of my month. One very happy Mum

Five transparent tents with white frames and fairy lights transformed the lawn into a fun and slightly magical place to spend an evening. Comfortable seats and blankets in each weather proof igloo created a cosy atmosphere. Attentive service ensured we always had food and drinks. The Chef's Tasting Plate was generous and came with a beverage, selection of cold cuts and antipasto plus a chocolate fondue that you need a spoon (or a ladle?) for. The Goat Curry was generous and tasty but a little tough. It was a great way to enjoy 3.5 hours at the pub. Definitely recommend early bookings to avoid disappointment.

Decided to come here with no reservations with family and was not disappointed at all. Food here was great, reasonably priced and friendly staff made this a great place for dinner. Make sure to come here on Monday nights and ask staff about specials for certain days of the week!

A beautiful pub with a great pet friendly outdoor area that morphs to suit the seasons. Heather is warm and welcoming as she flits around non stop and her team are all friendly and helpful. We love coming here.

Solid historic local pub with above average food and interior. The menu is wide ranging with some pub food classics as well as a few more creative dishes, it's also available both in the dining room and at the bar. Its interior is lovely, showing the age of the pub without looking worn out.

A friendly atmosphere and great service. Food was amazing and very generous in finger food, the best I've seen. I would recommend Auburn Hotel to anyone who is having a work function or birthday party. You will not be disappointed.

We had the Igloo experience at Auburn Hotel and it was sensational. The food and cocktails were delicious. We enjoyed having our group of 5 in the Igloo which was lit up with fairy lights. It was warm inside with gas heating provided. I would highly recommend this experince

Did you say a scalloped potatoes with my steak instead of chip. Just shush up and take my money! A Tuesday night in Melbourne delivers many a steak night across our abundance of fine establishments in Melbourne. Few offer difference, why should they, the night is a tried and tested favourite but the twist by the Auburn Hotel to offer scalloped potatoes instead of chips just rocketed them up my steak night order. This inner east staple pub has always delivered. Whether it used to be the wicked sunday sessions in my early twenties, the nice pub my folks would love, a good date spot for a first date, Auburn Hotel has had it all. Unfortunately the staff in the hotel can consistently appear as aloof or withdrawn. Dazzle you with a smile when bringing food, handing back your change etc, but there’s nothing else in the interaction. Despite this I can’t wait to see what else Auburn Hotel has planned for my future!

This place is beautiful. The food is really great! I'm a fan of the shared steak... 600g of steak can be shared unequally between myself and my partner (which is perfect). Steak is always cooked to perfection.

First time back to the Auburn Hotel since the renovations and one of the better pubs going around. Food was great, the acoustics for a large space was well balanced, not too loud for the amount of people in one room. Plenty of seating and dining areas if you book ahead. Food and drinks were quick to get delivered to our table. The new addition of the Beer Hall adds to the atmosphere and creating a vibrant space for all to enjoy. Cant wait to go back !
