Very loud and a lot of kids running around in the bistro from 6PM-8PM. Good if you have young ones, but wouldn’t recommend going if you just want a meal with some mates. Food was mediocre - a bit dry but not the worst I’ve had. Good for the terrace bar and pokies.

Has something changed here? Management or chef? We have been coming for years and the last few times we have noticed a big drop in food quality. So much so that, after tonight, we all said we won't be visiting here for a while. Lower plenty was always consistently good, which is why we frequented so often. So disappointing to see portion sizes and menu choices shrink, food served lukewarm, lacking in care and tasting below average. What's going on?!?!? Hoping they turn it around so we can return soon!

One star for the beer garden however in the bistro the meals were small and tasteless and we were charged extra because it was a public holiday The bowl of veggies which we paid $10 was an absolute rip off. 2 pieces of pumpkin and 2 strips of zucchini Salt and pepper squid had been deep fried to an inch of its life and the chicken snitzel was tasteless with no seasoning at all . Not a happy trio

Food was ok at best. What you would expect from an RSL. Almost no vege options though. Good for families with kids as there's a play centre attached to the dining area.

We had my son Jayson's Ist Anniversary Memorial function at the Lower Plenty Hotel because it was my son's favourite place to meet up with family and friends. Manager Jack booked and organised the function with me and he was very informative, experienced and patient. We were in the River Bridge Room which also had access to a private bar and the outdoor terrace. We had about 60 people and it felt roomy especially because we had the choice to go outside (great for these Covid conditions). My guest were very well looked after by super friendly staff. D was the wonderful manager on the day and all the wait and bar staff were polite and helpful. The food was perfect and as a real foodie and cook myself I had no need to worry. The chef is professional and experienced with large functions. His advice on menu choices and quantity was spot on, otherwise I would have spent a lot more money on food and it would have gone to waste. I will be definitely be doing more functions here in the future. It was just so easy. So a big huge THANK YOU to Jack, D and the crew at the Lower You're all doing a great job and I will be back.

First visit food was great and the play area great for kids. Went a week ago and food was terrible. I had a roast the meat was so fatty I sent it back and refused another instead opting to not eat and got a refund. Will not be returning for a while.

Unfortunately the food we ordered wasn't very nice. The chicken was dry & too overcooked! There were only potatoes as the vegetables that came with it. There was too much smoked paprika that was sprinkled on the chilli yoghurt ! Plus, we asked that they not give us the chilli yoghurt, but we still got it. The bread that came with the meal was over cooked aswell Not a very good dish to order as you only got over cooked dry chicken & potatoes, chilli yoghurt & a few pieces of bread, and this meal was for two ppl

They are only talking cash at the bar and make you pay $2.50 transaction fee at the ATM. They do not have EFTPOS either. Looks like a Jobkeeper scam to me

No Splitting Bill. We have been visiting the Lower as locals for at least 30 odd years since the days of the ball pit. We recently had a party of 35 people, my poor Dad had to foot the food & drinks bill for everyone. Yes some were able to fix him up. Other's didn't get the opportunity. This system is absolutely rediculous. We will sadly no longer travel back to visit the Lower & it's awesome playground unless this system changes. Many other businesses can work it out. Such a shame. Put a damper on what could have been a wonderful afternoon.

Whist the hotel has inproved in its design and decor, nothing else has. You are welcomed with a cloud of cigarette smoke as you pass the pokies smoking area. The atmosphere is dominated by screaming children using the play area and running through the dining area. The service is hit and miss. There is only one vegan option - a pumpkin burger and it is inedible. An overly sweet bun, mushy tasteless patty with a piece of limp lettuce, served with dry overcooked chips.

Came here last night for dinner and ordered the chicken schnitzel the meal was pretty pathetic, low quality and the salad was old. The chips not bad. I understand its pub food but I have had 10x better at other pubs that I won't name. On a good note I won my money back on the pokies so I'm not that bothered.

Can't comment on the food as didn't get a chance to try it. Rang to ask what time the kitchen closed and was told 8.30 normally but tonight 9. 00 for Mothers Day. Arrived at 8. 00 and was seated with a menu only to be told 5.mins later that the kitchen was closing early and no food for me! Staff should be across the kitchen times especially on Mothers Day. Wont be going back.

Do you ever miss the shonky flavours and risky textures that you used to experience in the 90s at Sizzlers, after the local primary school had had their way with the bain-marie and everything had had the chance to sweat a little bit? Well, the "food" here is like a trip down memory lane. Boiled, rubbery chicken, tired vegetables, gravy that seems to separate into oily and watery sections... And I'm pretty sure that there was some durry ash in my drink glass. We made a complaint about one of our meals and there was no offer of replacing it or refunding. So we just didn't eat it. I saw a few others going up to the bar and complaining about food, maybe the microwave was overworked so they just resorted to running stuff through the dishwasher. Worst food I've paid for in decades. Not cheap, either.

Nice place to stop and get cooled off with a glass of beer 🍺 for the boys and a ginger ale for me. Friendly and helpful staff. No sign of Ginger beer at pubs generally 😕 No take w away coffees either. Very clean restrooms, although seems to have steps up there is a ramp! Almost hidden but available. Lots of parking space, pokies are available for those willing to gamble.

Food was sub par but if you have kids you go for the playground. The garlic bread had almost zero garlic flavour, and the garlic prawns should be renamed cream prawns as the garlic had gone missing again. My brother in law got garlic butter with his steak and we decided that's where the garlic had gone! Only an hour into the dinner service and they were out of watermelon salad and creme brulee. Steak was verging on blue instead of rare but since we'd already sent back cold and watery mashed potato we just wanted to eat. Service was friendly enough. And again, recommended for parents as the playground was great. Kids meals are good too.

We had a Special Needs 30th at the Lower Plenty Hotel function rooms. The whole experience was so stress free. Dealing with Lane the Functions Coordinator was so painless and she was so lovely. She steered us towards appropriate menu choices etc and helped us with some great ideas. On the day Dee and the staff were fantastic. He sorted all our requirements from ladder to fixing our it issues and did it with a smile. All the staff were so accommodating and it made for a great experience. Food choices were good. Food came out hot. The only downside side was limited gluten free and dessert party options but we were allowed to bring our own desserts so it wasn't a major issue. Highly recommend the Lower Plenty for your functions.

Ordered Nachos for entree they used just an avocado dip instead of guacamole. The steak I asked for medium rare came out well. This venue has dropped big time this is the 3rd time I’ve came back hoping it was good like it use to be but unfortunately not.

By golly! I was blown away by the delicate Australian cuisine showcased at the Lower Plenty Hotel. I have visited my far share of pubs in my time, but none have stood out quite as last Friday night. The blissful balance of the chicken Caesar salad was stellar, complimented by the hero of the night, Ryan. What a charming young man. He was ever so accommodating and made sure my experience was as pleasant as possible. I will be dining again, and I recommend the Lower Plenty Hotel to any and all who desire a delicious meal and spectacular customer service.

Every pub and bar can serve you a drink and cook you some food, but none can make you feel at home like one of the bartenders Hamish did for me and my family at the Lower Plenty Hotel. With a “can do” attitude, Hamish made sure the food was speedy and delicious, had a great night with some great laughs, would definitely recommend. My 11 year old son even said his new favourite superhero is “that Hamish man from the lower” 😹

Dec-2020 Staff were hard working and eager to please... LOTS of rushing around, maybe the reason for some discrepancies over formalities between personnel regarding bookings, QR and alternative arrangements that were not completed. We had drinks brought to our table that we didn't order, main meal incomplete and a dessert that was not what we ordered! Additionally aspects of the main course and the dessert were tough to eat! STAFF were courteous, helpful and kind... which leaves me to consider that management may need to back off and allow the staff to slow down and concentrate a bit more? We have decided that after having been a few times over a couple of years that we will receive just as kind staff elsewhere... with maybe tastier and more enjoyable meals.

(January 2021) 1st time dining at the terrace bar. Lovely views. Bar staff were friendly & professional. I had the southern fried chicken burger- it was delish! Does The Lower allow dogs at the terrace bar? I’d love to go back in the future.

Booked a table for a family dinner on Friday 29th January at 1930 seated well. That was the end of the good points. Placed order of three mains, 2 adults and 1 kids meal. Also an entree and drinks. Kids meal came out same time as entree, why? Daughter had finished her mains before ours had even come out. Adult meals not served at same time either. Meals done, ordered dessert. Again three deserts and again one came out, and finished, before the other two. Apparently there was problems in the kitchen getting a sundae and a tiramisu. Don’t suppose it matters are they are always busy so one unhappy table is no big deal. Will not be back. Thanks for the reply Daniela cant reply to your response so i have put it here. Hate to be the bearer of bad news but we paid for our desserts and never had coffees, not sure who got the free stuff but it sure as wasn't us. Surely if we wanted the kids meal first we would have requested that, never have i heard of anyplace that needs you to request meals are served together, tip for young players i guess.

The service was friendly but unprofessional. The covid martial sprayed disinfectant all over my wifes legs when she tried to wipe down our table instead of spraying into he cloth. When my drink was brought out there was dried sauce on the side of the glass. When they brought the food out my wifes chips were cold and there was a long hair entwined in the steak of her sandwich. The waitress also forgot to bring cutlery with the food and i ended up trying to cut a parma with a butter knife that i had to fetch for myself. The parma was average and the garlic bread starter was quite dry. The steak sandwich did taste good though until the hair was discovered in it. overall quite disappointed in my experience there

We booked a 5.30 dinner for a group of 6 kids and 6 adults. Kids loved the play area, food and each others company. We went for an early NYE dinner with the kids. The bar staff were so friendly and accommodating, the play area is huge, the venue big and comfortable, and the icecream sundae DELICIOUS. I would give 5 stars, except as a vegetarian, the menu didn't have many options. It may have been a reduced menu for new year's eve though. We will definitely return.

Not bad, got an option for pretty much anyone - pokies, bistro, sports bar, private functions etc Had the most overcooked porterhouse I've eaten in my life, but the rest of the food was fantastic and so was the atmosphere Bar service feels very slow, be prepared to queue for a *very* long time. They pump out a lot of drinks, they're just very busy, so everyone double parks... which slows the service more (duh!) Worth a try

It's was good food but barman was to scare to make me latte. Due to anaphylaxis to tree nuts. I was really looking forward nice coffee sitting outside. My friend and l had to leave and go home to my house to get coffee. Staff at lower plenty pub need more education on anaphylaxis training.

Food and staff always nice but it's still one of the few places where you cop unfiltered cigarette smoke as you walk in and again on the beautiful decking outside while you eat which negates the fresh air feel and great view. A great venue for smokers which keeps us away more than it should.

Always enjoy gathering here for a quick catch up. The negative being that they always "chase" you out early. We were there for my son's schools parents introductions and they were already telling us it's closing at 915pm in the restaurant area

26$ for a tip top burger bun ,a precooked and burned beef patty and soggy fries .what a shame . At least boys enjoyed at the playground.

  • 2/5 Andrea S. 1 year ago on Google
Surroundings are lovely but the food has always been very average. I wouldn’t go there by choice but the last time we went was for my neices birthday lunch and my husband bought a chicken Parma (as you do) and had an upset stomach soon after his meal followed by a night of diarrhoea and vomiting. Yep. Refuse to go there after that. At least until new management or a new chef come in and clean it up.

Had lunch today on the terrace. Nice venue and the staff were really nice. My partners meal was OK. But the fish and chips were disgusting, cold, tasteless and soggy. I did mention to the waiter that the meal was awful. He just shrugged and said he would let the kitchen know. I left most of my meal untouched. My partner's schooner of beer and lipstick stains on it , when he mentioned it to the staff they told him the wine glasses were worse Definitely do not recommend!!!

Place has gone down hill…part of the playground been closed off for months..the last 2 times we been there they forgot our meals…when they came out it was obvious it was hastily put together…very below pub standard..the 2 jambalaya were very different sizes as well by about a quarter…my 6 year old had penne bolognaise which she complained of having an upset stomach from it…the sauce looked like it was made a week ago. Staff are nice and friendly but that’s all it seems going for it these days. We have been regulars for years but will give it a rest in the hope they might improve in a year or two.

I came with 3 family members, one who has frequented the hotel in the past recommended the steak. I decided on the pork spareribs whilst the others chose the steak. Whilst apparently the steaks were very good according to the others, my spareribs were lousy. They were dry and completely tasteless, and the marinade (if that's what it was) appeared to have been wiped on before the ribs were cooked. No complaints about the rest of the meal or the dining experience as a whole, but the signature dish of your dining experience should be something memorable for the right reasons, not these.

We visit the Lower Plenty pretty regularly. Great place to go for dinner with the kids because of the playground. Price is competitive with other pubs in the area and the food is good. The bistro is nice although tables are a little close together. Service is always friendly.

Good size meals, comes out quickly if not super busy. There's a huge play are for kids at the end of dinning area. The staff are always friendly and helpful. Try not to sit near the entrance area as it's very cold when the doors open 'winter' otherwise we love it in here.

The playground and big spaces are handy with kids but it’s chaos! The playground needs supervision as it can get risky for smaller kids. Food is basic pub food. Facilities have been upgraded so toilets etc are good.

We haven’t been here for a long time. Thought we’d give it a try. Big mistake. Chips were cold and tough. Replacement chips were hot and tough. Worst Caesar salad ever. Meals came nearly 10 minutes apart after asking for them again. Coffee request was ignored and had to go back to be done again. Won’t be back for a while!!

What an absolute Culinary Let Down!!! Steak tough as a Dunlop tyre served on cold mash certainly does not meet food safety requirements. Marinara Linguine that has nothing but oil and no flavour is not the way to get return clientelle. You won't see us again. Big -10/10

This place has a bistro, gaming rooms and a hotel atmosphere out the back. Food is delicious and easy to pick from their menu. Loads of parking and a huge deck area for outdoor drinks and smoking area. Wednesday night's a treat with Trivia with a great fun atmosphere where you can order food and drinks from the bar area. Staff are friendly and always smiling and helpful. Do your self a favor grab your friends, wander down and have a great fun night on a Wednesday, or just food and drinks through the week.

  • 2/5 Adriel 6 months ago on Google
Good enough staff and service. Sadly the food is cheaply made, you can taste the packet stock in risotto for example. Risotto portioning was fine. Taste was cheap. Could be straight out of a packet. Not worth 29$ at all. Parma was on the smaller side, It was served to me with 8 to 10 individual chips, I asked them to please provide more which the staff oblidged. Upon return they added maybe 5 more chips. This was pretty hilarious.. very poor guys. Parma Taste was okay, a 6/10. Chips were a 6/10 also. Serving size is atrocious for 29 dollars. Salad was barely dressed and not worth eating. Staff were kind and did a good job. Basically this place serves fast food but more expensive. Not enough in the portions or quality for the price.

They Always say they are booked out although in many occasions we have rocked up in the middle of the week and they have plenty of unoccupied tables… there’s something seriously wrong with this business … also food quality is very inconsistent

Had a fabulous family gathering at the Lower! Great food, with good portion sizes. Jack was amazing, made the best ‘hot’ coffee in town!!! We will definitely be back

Been going, on and off, for years. Went in July 23 and had a really good experience. However went last night and wow, it was so different. The food has really fallen off the cliff here. On a table of 7, i think only one of us was satisfied with what was presented. I was honestly amazed at the decrease in quality. The portions were small and either overcooked or been given little care during preparation. We are not the kind of folk to cause a commotion, so we let it slide, but living very locally I doubt we will return in a hurry. It's not a super cheap bistro either. I can only guess at a change in priorities for management (less bang for your buck) or kitchen staff, because it was a totally different dining experience to the one only 5 months prior. 2 stars only because staff remain friendly, food lucky to rate as a single star...

Our go to group booking Bistro. Friendly staff, easy booking system and the food comes out super fast. Great range of menu choices for all including fussy teens.

Friendly staff, great play area for kids aged 4-8. The food prices were so expensive for a pub and the food was very basic. Fairly small menu.

One day I’ll be telling stories to my children about Ryan, saviour of hospitality. This stunning man served me with the most beautiful calamari I’ve ever seen, and when I’d finished eating I was at a loss for words. I will be dining at the lower plenty hotel and hopefully once again in the presence of the gold standard for customer service. Thank you for making my experience one to remember, Ryan. Also he once saved me from drowning in a well.

Alright - two words, one name: I love Ryan! I came to celebrate a very special lunch out with my Mum here the other week to revisit an old favourite of ours (haven't been in a while). Food was great, and service was wonderful, my Mum was having trouble reading without her glasses so Ryan very kindly read the entire menu aloud to her, answering any questions she had- such a warm bloke, super friendly. Will be returning :)

You know that kid Ryan sure knows how to provide some superlative customer service, made me feel as though I was dining in first class. His sense of humour and wit astound me, I bet he could cheer up any crying baby you threw at him! We were provided with both dinner AND a show, what more could you want.

My family went to dinner at Lower Plenty Hotel on Saturday, we sat outside and it was the perfect weather. The food was delicious but the standout of the night was the bartenders specifically a lovely girl Carly! She was so amazing getting us all our drinks with a smile on her face. I highly recommend going !!!

Such an underrated establishment. Fantastic location, lovely vibes however by far the best aspect of the Lower Plenty Hotel is Hamish. Hamish made my whole night excellent, so attentive to each and every customer. I’ve never seen someone care so much about their customers. Thank you Hamish! He deserves employee of the month, every month. I will definitely be returning!

😐 Food tastes great 👍 they sure love their spices and I like the kick of it. Fish and pork tacos were great but chorizo taco wasn't good because of the rubbery texture skin. It was unpleasant to eat. Corn chips were a bit stale and guacamole was bland. Service was okay. We gave the feedback to a sta...
