An extremely interesting and pleasant discovery. I didn't know there was such a museum in Melbourne, my friend and I only happened to see it when passing by. Glad we went in: it tells the stories and shows the uniform of Fire Forces not only in Australia and Melbourne but also from different countries. It has also an area for children and the visit doesn't take long since the place is not too big. Definitely recommend for all ages.

Very interesting, lots of little tidbits about the history of the fire services in Victoria, and some of Melbourne’s history. I learned things I didn’t know before! It’s such an extensive collection of memorabilia there are a number of items not kept on site as there is no room for everything! All the displays are diligently labelled and volunteer staff happy to chat and explain anything further. If you explored and read about everything in there, you’d be occupied for a good part of the day. We felt very lucky to be able to see all the old fire trucks, uniforms and equipment all in one place. If you have children who are interested in fire trucks, they’ll definitely get a kick out of checking this place out. Entry for children under 5 is free and adults are $10.

The Fire Services Museum of Victoria's purpose and main aim is to collect, preserve, display and interpret items pertaining to the history, concept of fire fighting and fire safety in Victoria. Located in the old head office of the Melbourne Fire Brigade, the award winning Fire Services Museum Victoria, was opened in 1979 to provide a home and focus for the history of fire fighting services in the Victoria. The Museum includes a collection of over 10,000 fire related items collected both nationally and internationally and including Country Fire Authority, and Metropolitan Fire Brigade, fire appliances, personnel histories, memorabilia and associated items. Most of the Museum Personnel are retired fire fighters and can offer a lively story or two about their craft and it's history. The Museum is a not for profit organisation and all personnel are volunteers. The Award Winning Museum offers: Australia's largest collection of fire brigade memorabilia including a year round display of vintage fire vehicles and other appliances, helmets, 18th century uniforms, badges, models, and much more over 10,000 fire related items collected both nationally and internationally historical photos of firefighters and fires of the past a shop with fire fighting memorabilia for young and old fire fighting demonstrations on several days throughout the year (bookings required)

This museum is uninspiring boring and overpriced. Spent half an hour there with my grandson and totally underwhelming. No access to modern firefighting. Two pleasant staff there but there is just nothing much to see and do for. 4 yr old. Dropped in at the dragon park in Fitzroy gardens in the way back to Joliment and had a much better time… for nothing

Needs updating. I'd recommend having a full room dedicated to major fire events, rather than a poster with tiny text. Would pay more if more informative, rather than just displaying old uniforms and equipment

You get to learn about the important history of our fire services in Victoria. It's small and cosy but so important to support. It's not expensive too.

A friends Father who had worked in the MFB had passed away and we visited here hoping to find out about borrowing a piece of memorabilia and immediately we were offered a piece to borrow and place on the coffin at the funeral which we returned with thanks later on, the gentlemen there went above and beyond as did the UFU. While there I realised here is a hidden gem of Melbourne that if you can get down there and make sure you talk to the members who work there and appreciate the dedication these people have. It's our luck to have people who will serve the community and ask for nothing in return

I don’t quite understand why this is rated so highly. It’s mostly old uniforms, some old cars. Maybe for those very interested in the history of fire services, but definitely not for kids. Hang out the front of the actual fire station next door and you might get to see a real fire engine, which is way more entertaining.

I think the place is more suitable for people who really wants to know about the fireman and firetruck's history. But if you want desirable place to visit where you can get many photos and can see many things I'd rather visit a different place.

I had a great morning at the old Eastern Hill Fire Station; it's like a time capsule, and it totally fascinated me. Shout out to Pete, who gave me all the info I needed. You can tour the station following the paper guide. However, the watchtower is currently off limits. It's being restored at the moment. The old Chiefs room, the old engine room, the old control room, etc. They are so well preserved that you could film a period drama there everyone would think it was a prop. Even the light switches are as old as the teeth and nails holding the place together. The station has a few activities too. You can put on some old uniforms, there's a giftshop, interactive displays about the history of fire fighting in Melbourne etc. It's also really important to the fire community, retired service men and women go there to socialise, talk to museum goers, give tours etc. Show your support, I got myself a t-shirt. Come and follow me on Instagram and YouTube 🥰
