I had big expectations for this place, but I have to say that I was underwhelmed by the whole tour experience. First thing, the number of people booked for the tour was incompatible with the narrow corridors of the house and the extreme concern by the hosts on guests accidentally touching any of the walls or (of course) the art pieces. The amount of people and the hosts' obsession made the whole tour very uncomfortable. The host's anal behaviour got to a point that they told off a mother (ironically enough on mother's day) and asked her to stay behind because her baby was cooing, not louder than any of the parallel chats that were happening between the guests at the very same time. At the end of the tour, the host even apologised to us for the presence of the baby, which made things even more awkward. Other than that, some of the art pieces were indeed great, the house was beautiful and its owner's mini concert was a highlight of the tour.

I went to see the housemuseum a few years ago, and then just went to see the galleries today. If you can tone your visit on one of the days that the house is open, it’s an inspiration. Don’t miss this place.

I was truly speechless after being on a tour of this place today, conducted by the owner Corbett Lyon. My wife and I had been invited by friends of ours and we were dubious if we wanted to see contemporary art, having never heard of the Museumhouse before. We were enthralled at the whole experience and would have loved to stay longer but can see the need to keep the tours restricted and to a time-frame. How lucky are Corbett and Yueji to have the talent and passion to create this place and make it available to the public - and how lucky is the public!! The yet-to-be-completed large extension is now a must-see for us in the near future. Kudos !!!

A most interesting place. Mrs Lyon was very friendly and generous with her time. She shared the family’s passion for the visual arts and told us the background to the gallery and how it became a reality. There are occasional house tours, too, which sound fascinating. They need to be booked via the website.

It’s amazing to see how a family’s passion turns to a beautiful space supporting and showcasing Australian artists. A great afternoon with pleasure hearing Mrs Lyon’s stories. I would go back again!

Make sure to book the tour of the Housemuseum well in advance and arrive a few minutes early. Mrs Lyons gives a great informative tour. There is plenty to see - and hear!

The building is architecturally interesting from the outside, however, that is where the interests ends. The entire exhibition is in one room without annotations on 99% of items exhibited. The entry price of $12 per person is excessive for the size of the exhibition. For any info on the artworks one needs to purchase $20 catalogue. Very disappointing - not worth the time or expense.

The Lyon House Museum announces something many of us know to be true - that art is vital to living.

The building, tho' an excellent exhibition space, is difficult to find as a suburban site & possibly problematic in finding parking space during weekdays, price of entry is too much especially as the limited works exhibited were not to my 'taste'....perhaps another display may......???

I've been twice and would gladly go back again as they only have 20% of their epic (mainly Australian) art collection on display and often rotate it so each visit you can enjoy a new experience (spaced out a few months I'd suspect) - very inspirational architectural space and incredible commitment to art collection and gifting it to the public. GO
