Totally worth it. Lots to see and there is even a theater in it. Learnt lots about surfing. The shark opener is so cute. A big thank to Bud for the great tour intro.

One of the pitstops for the surfing 🌊 pilgrimage. A very well done 👍 museum showcasing various surfboards as they evolved through the ages, detailing how shape and length have continuously innovated and modified. Museum 🖼️ also includes artworks, posters and anecdotes from local surfers, which definitely sheds light 🕯️ on why Australia has become a surf-crazy nation. If you like surfing, expect to spend well more than an hour here.

Fantastic array of surfing facts and memorabilia on. Brilliant displays and strong surfing atmosphere. I challenge you not to get a buzz (and I am 77 years old).

We loved it. It's a small museum but full of history. I really recommend going and spending a couple of hours watching all the surf boards, surf suites, etc reading the history behind each item.

The history of surf is nicely explained. You have a family ticket (2a 3c) at AUD25. The silver surfer or the board where you can try to surf are not there anymore. They could do the museum amore interactive for the children. V

If you love surfing or even interested to know more about what the surfers do on the beach chasing each wave, worth an experience to check it out!

This is a well presented timeline of the surfing history. I enjoyed walking around. Respectful entry price and would recommend this museum to everyone any age. One small disappointment was to see the McCoy boards in a dark corner, not to be noticed.

Stopped in on a weekend away. I was really impressed with the items in the collection and didn't realise surfing was such an old craft. I learned a lot about the history of surfing, the evolution of the boards and the technology that goes into making a great board. We spent about 1.5 hours in the museum but there us a 90 minute feature film that shows in the theatre, so allow more time if you want to watch the whole thing.

Traces the entire history of surfing in a fun and interesting way. Really cheap, we pay $8 per person as a student.

Cute and not overpriced museum. Great surfing video and interesting mix with a dedicated place for Kelly Slater even if he's not australian. Nice one

The museum is nice but not very educational, you really have to be a big fan of surfing to appreciate it!

Marie - The Museum guide - was absolutely wonderful! Please do yourself a favour and if you're in the area pay the $25.00 family pass and take the kids through the amazing local history (and beyond) of the surfing revolution as it hit the shores of the Victorian Surf Coast. We thoroughly enjoyed it but beware of the souvenir shop all my loose change disappeared very quick, haha!

What a great place with videos, displayed Champion surfboards and lots of information on the history of surfing. We loved it! Worth the $12 entrance fee.

What a gem in Torquay! Great place to learn about the history of the Sport, showcasing how the surfboard design evolved over the years. They have few kids activities - balance the surfboard, decorate chalk surfboards, kinetic sand pits and a cool green-screen photo booth. Definitely worth checking out on a cold day!

Really interesting, even if you are not into surfing. Great for history buffs and even car enthusiasts. Would like to see some history on surf clothing companies like Mambo and RIP Curl added. Totally worth a visit.

Don’t pass a chance up to go in here – we nearly did thinking it was “just another museum”. Not so. We wandered around the interior of the Tourist Info Centre in Torquay and bought some gifts and then as it started to rain, thought we would pay the few dollars to have a look around, not thinking it would take long. The building is huge, there is so much information about surf festivals and competitions, surfers themselves, champions and early pioneers of the surf movement, the evolution of surf boards and many boards belong to past champions. There is an awesome tv exhibition of the waves and how to ride them and that is on for a while so be prepared to sit and watch. There are interactive green screen surf spots where you can take your own picture on the waves and email it back to yourselves. One of the highlights was a set of surfboards which had been written all over as if from a teenager to his parents, absolutely hilarious, I forget what it was called but well worth the read. In all – a great visit and one I am really glad we did not miss.

Always worth a visit while in Torquay. It really helps to understand how surfing is really entrenched in the Australian culture and history, especially in this specific region.

  • 4/5 Mon A. 4 years ago on Google
Great experience. Museum shows the surf history from the begging. You will visit many rooms with active TV. You can also watch whole movie which I recommend. What I was hoping to see - some shark attacks stories unfortunately there was just a bit about it. Anyway I do recommend

👍 Beautiful beach and definitely great surfing waves .. But, Not so much for kids or those who can't swim because of the winds and strong waves. Above of all, it has a wonderful mesmerizing landscape and well looked after facilities.

👍👍 The rugged coastline is big enough to make you feel insignificant but small enough to be connected with nature. Rain and low gray clouds adds to the beauty of this windy road landscape. Enjoy it while you can.
