A lovely little art gallery within the Arts District. A great place to visit in conjunction with the Arts Centre and the National Gallery of Victoria.

Art precinct is pretty good, starting to feel a bit dated. Looking forward to the revamp over the next few years...

Thought provoking gallery showcasing Australian artists. Although i struggled to understand one of the exhibits, the plaques on the wall were very informative. My favourite installation was one decided of pulleys and charcoal and it created art on the way that was constantly evolving. It's not a big place, but well worth a visit. You can also tap and donate as well.

ACCA is an art gallery specialized on modern arts and located in the South bank. The building itself is a piece of impressive architecture. The exhibition space is not too large but the one I went to see was well curated. The site includes facilities for performing arts: modern dance and The Malthouse theater.

I'm always surprised when friends of mine who live in Melbourne tell me that they've never been to the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art. Located just outside the CBD, this free gallery exhibits some really striking and impressive contemporary art, by celebrated artists from around the globe.

An icon for many reasons. A must see place that has presented local Australian Artists for decades. It’s original home was at Domain House near the Botanical Gardens. ACCA is synonymous with thought provoking, context driven, aesthetic historical grounding art , art practices and curatorial pre eminence. PUT IT ON YOUR CALENDER FOR AN ART DAY TOUR. it’s neighbours are both the NGV’s, Margaret Lawrence at the Victorian College of the Arts, Vault ❤️, and Buxton Contemporary. Go for it

Nice tiny place, it's small, total of four big rooms with a few art work, it is worth a visit. When I was there they were renovating a part of the museum so I couldn't get to see it all. It is recommended if you're walking passed. Entry is free.

I'd been out with big Tony the night before and needed some time to get my head right before afternoon meetings. Turns out ACCA is ideal. Giant beanbags and some compelling video installations. Paired with an icy water and I was soon ready to rumble

Always free with great contemporary Australian and international artists. Stunning space with amazing exterior and a massive inside gallery hall, with three smaller ones. Great coffee stall available in the front entrance with profits going towards funding the gallery. Love coming here when I'm in the area!

Intriguing centre situated between major arts centre in the arts precinct. A must visit if around the area.

Oxidised palace of recently minted contemporary art served up as installations, publications, and other conceptual and high art vehicles -- this is Melbourne's best art-related acronym. ACCA earns bonus points for the infamous yellow steel sculpture that innocently looms in the far corner of its leafy residential quarter, no longer offending anyone. Go here to see what Australian apres-post-modern artists are doing, and to revel in the Duchampian side of the gallery world, and to see what socio-political concerns are au courant and of the moment. Rust never sleeps.

It’s a museum but unfortunately very small. Therefore, there was only one exhibition. I was hoping to see more.

  • 2/5 Alison D. 2 months ago on Google • 35 reviews New
Current exhibition had a collection of amateur looking paintings and a very political agenda in every room. This seemed to be a theme for a lot of galleries, some people just want to view the art, and interpret things for themselves and not have political agendas shoved down their throats. Some interesting sculptures however with the linen smocks on the farming implements, that were a highlight and were visually engaging and able to be interpreted by the viewer, rather than told the meaning. Note for artists: don't over explain your works in talks.

Nice and interesting art gallery. Haven’t seen much people coming or going and the place is pretty small. Can see everything in 10-15 mins.

Amateur art with recycled tropes which were badly lit. Sorry to be horrible just wasn’t what we were expecting and kinda smaller than we thought! BUT the staff were lovely and welcoming!

A very interesting and dynamic exhibition currently on show inside. The building itself is worth going to for people who love good architecture - a beautiful design.

Opening times are unreliable, and so you may waste your time getting there only to discover it is closed. I went today - the official website said “open 10am-5pm” but when I arrived the doors were locked with a sign saying closed until 2pm. Those managing ACCA should get their opening hours sorted out and then stick to them, update on their website, and stop disrespecting visitors by wasting our time.

So grateful to have this space in Melbourne. Never fails to provide something of interest and I commend the programmers for their bravery. Today it was the Paul Yore survey. Amazing work, but also well presented. It didn't feel like it was fighting the venue for space. The commissioned piece is such a good idea - an exclamation point to finish off the journey.

I am not a fan of this style of art...but Yore ticks many currently politically correct boxes so he gets a voice - not available to me. 'Good on 'em!

Sooo strange... unbelieveable. Looks like somebody crazy throw different things inside building. Which looks very impressive outside. But exhibition can really made you feel sick and mentally ill. Who really create and sponsor it? Ridiculous use of such amazing building. And this inside isnt art at all

So grateful that we have ACCA - every new exhibition is always groundbreaking, enlightening, disturbing, surprising, discussion worthy, entertaining or just a feast for the senses. Together with their well presented talks and events - the staff and volunteers are always ready to educate or participate in a robust discussion. Full kudos to all staff and volunteers. Always a delight to visit! Thank you.

(Translated by Google) An art museum a little away from City. Exhibits change regularly. I dropped in while sightseeing, but encountered extracurricular activities at elementary school. The exhibits were unknown to the average public and could not be understood. There is nothing around you, so you don't have to make time to go. Great space but VERY small. Would have loved to see a bigger selection of contemporary art. That being said, what is on display is definitely good food for thought and it is a good little stopover on your way to other things.

Free entry.... Great bldg and friendly staff but small exhibition area and limited exhibits (usually 1 or 2 artists by the looks of things), if the running artist not to your taste, you won't be there long.

There is only one exhibition with a singular theme at a relatively small museum. The current theme revolves around womanhood, focusing on a relatively dark topic. It is thought-provoking but not necessarily inspiring. It is not highly recommended for families, but it is suitable for anyone interested in the topic.
