Nice building. Would’ve been a shame if it became an exam venue, where students have to miserably get in and wait at the 3-degree Celsius weather with a bit of complementary rain, only to realize that inside, the gaze of the examiners are even much more colder than the weather outside.

What an amazing landmark... Went in for the vaccination (with appointment) and the place was converted into a mass vaccination centers and there was very little wait time which was great. If you are going these for vaccination please know that there is free parking 100 Meyers away from the building entrance right in the front court/entrance. Apart from COVID the exterior architecture is stunning and if you enter for vaccination you could see the magnificent interior free of charge as well which was great. Definitely a must see on our amazing City ❤️

This is a beautiful old building, steeped in history and built in 1879-1880 as a ‘Palace of Industry’ to host the Melbourne International Exhibition in 1880–81. This exhibition was the greatest show the city had ever seen, and attracted over one million visitors. In 1888, it was the venue for the Melbourne Centennial Exhibition to celebrate a century of European settlement in Australia. Then on 9 May, 1901 it was the venue for the opening of the first Parliament of Australia and subsequently, for some 25 years up until 1927, it was the venue for the Victorian Parliament. In 1919 it became an emergency hospital for influenza epidemic victims and during the Second World War it was used by the RAAF. It's had many varied uses since then including hosting a number of events during the 1956 Summer Olympics as well as the venue for State High School Matriculation and for the Victorian Certificate of Education examinations. It also once housed the Melbourne Aquarium and was regularly used for weekly dances in Melbourne. In 1981 it was the venue for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. It has also been the venue for many boat shows, car shows and other regular home and building industry shows including the annual Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show. The Royal Exhibition Building is definitely deserving of its status. I love it's grandness and also the small details and ornate architecture. A visit to this majestic building is highly recommended.

Fascinating building of great historical significance to Australia. It’s a beautiful building and definitely worth doing the tour. There is a lift if you’re not capable of walking up and down all the stairs. Our tour guide “Matt with a beard” has an expert knowledge of the history and the building and was able to impart this information in a relaxed and friendly way which made it fascinating to those on the tour. Book in advance as it’s very popular and does book out.

Amazing structure, masterpiece of architecture. The building has been designed in such a way that it best suits the purpose. If you are visiting the exhibition, it's recommended to buy tickets in advance, further it's usually no cash place so please have your digital payments option with you.

We were here on a Sunday and the place was all locked up. This is a World Heritage historic place that was completed in 1880. The building looks simply magnificent from the outside but unfortunately for us, the southern frontage was under renovation so we could not see the grand old lady in her pure splendour. Nevertheless, we spent a few hours walking the grounds and just chilling and enjoying the gardens. We will definitely be back when the renovation is completed.

COVID JAB 12/08/21 Great venue and really well set up for processing so many people. I was concerned about a potentially high Covid transmission location like this but I think the staff and even the patients are doing an incredible job from my time there. Staff were all friendly and it was really quite an efficient process. To my medical professional Irish and all the staff in these settings, thanks for what you are doing. Thanks to all the people getting the vaccine and doing their bit for the community. For anyone on the fence don’t take advice from me I’m not at all qualified but please speak to a trained medical professional you trust and be open with your concerns.

Wonderful hall. Attended for covid vaccination. There is limited on site parking and street paid parking outside for $4 an hour. The hall its self is gorgeous. Wonderfully hand painted ceilings and expansive architectural features. Well worth the drive, and no better way to spend the 15 min wait time than gazing at all the artistic detail this space has to offer. For vaccinations, seating was well spaced and sign posted. Jab wait times are minimal and streamlined. There is heating throughout too.

Did the Dome Promenade Guided Tour. Took the opportunity to explore the buildings significant history and learn how it was used over time. 139 steps to get to the top. 8 levels. You can use the elevator if you don’t want to do steps. The Royal Exhibition Building is beautiful inside and out—and a true landmark of Melbourne.

Brilliant tour! Fascinating history - really brought to life by Matt - our thoughally engaging tour guide! Great views from the Promenade & great insights into the past from the various historical photos and items on display. Included in the ticket for the tour is entry to the museum. Allow an extra hour to explore the Melbourne gallery - and immerse yourself in the detail of the numerous objects that illustrate the stories of times past. Set aside most of the day if you want to explore the whole museum!

Iconic white Melbourne building, located on the edge of the Carlton Gardens, with beautiful architecture and a dome. Heritage listed and built in 1880 for an international show. It has recently opened for 1 hour guided walking tours of its classic dome, which offers views over Melbourne's skyline. Tours are $29 but are booked out months in advance. Probably quite under utilized these days as a convention centre, but when I was a child there were lots of exhibitions, home shows, garden expos etc held here. The annual garden and flower show is still held here.

Surrounded by the Carlton Gardens, the building and its lush greenery create a harmonious and picturesque setting. The meticulously landscaped gardens complement the grandeur of the exhibition building, providing a serene escape in the heart of the city.

Iconic Melbourne building that played a key role in the foundation for Australia, hosting the very first parliament. Built in 1880 for the 1881 exhibition, it is the only building remaining from the period of great international exhibitions of the 19th century.

Historical and amazing artwork inside the building. I’ve been there for first time on Octoberfest in 2017, and accidentally had a job inside the building for six months. There are many beautiful histories about the victorian parliament which you could find them inside the building. It was good news when I saw they are repairing some old parts. Thanks 😊

We did the Dome Promenade tour and it was AMAZING! So interesting to get up close and personal with an important building in the history of both Melbourne and Australia. The views from the Dome platform were incredible- see pics - I'm very grateful we had a sunny day. The exhibition in the basement was interesting, and I loved seeing the artwork closer than I'd ever seen it on previous visits. This tour is a must do for locals and visitors alike (our group had locals mixed with domestic and international tourists) but plan ahead and book early, it you'll miss out.

This is a beautiful building. My rating is however only reflective of the Finders Keepers market and not the building or surrounding gardens. The market was very female targeted and didn't provide much for men which is a shame. I was one of the hundreds of guys walking around for clothes or accessories stalls for guys that never appeared. Disappointed, even my wife and friends said this should have been articulated better in the promotion of it.

I was an exhibitor at the Cat Lovers Show and took with me a 12 week old kitten - she was amazing, for the 2 days her name was Lily as she was up for adoption. Lily was loved by the staff Volunteers attendees and Public that attended the Show. Exhibition Building Staff you made the Show a pleasure it was organised to perfection, I came last year but this was amazing. My Lily also made many many visits to the Pat a Cat section where she was a huge hit. I look forward to next year, thanks everybody for coming you made it a great day enjoyed by all.

I never knew you could visit this amazing building as part of a tour organised via the museum just across the way and it’s so worth it! This is the only man made UNESCO heritage listed sight in Australia and it makes complete sense. From the outside, it appears as if it has been transported here from Europe, from inside, it is grand and splendid made from beautiful timber and the main dome is intricately painted. There are renovations in progress to make the Exhibition Building a permanent venue to be visited with dedicated opening hours - can’t wait!

A palace of culture, which signaled the arrival of Melbourne as a vital metropolis. As the self-governing Australian states of Victoria and New South Wales grew richer after the gold booms of the 1850s, rivalry between their respective capitals of Melbourne and Sydney intensified. Both wished to organize exhibitions modeled on the international exhibitions of Europe, a craze begun with the Great Exhibition in London in 1851. Sydney won the race and opened its fair in October 1879, but concentrated mainly on agriculture. Melbourne therefore decided to launch its more international-looking fair after Sydney’s had ended, and the building opened on May 29, 1880. Exhibitions, parliaments, and sports. The exhibition was held in a vast building designed in cruciform style by the architect Joseph Reed. Its eclectic exterior included a dome modeled on that of Florence Cathedral and elements of Byzantine, Romanesque, and Renaissance styles. After the exhibition closed on April 30, 1881, the building was used as the temporary home for the first Parliament of Australia in May 1901, and later as a venue for basketball and other sports during the 1956 Olympic Games. The first building in Australia to be listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the building is currently used as a commercial exhibition venue.

The Royal Exhibition Building is located in Carlton Gardens, which is very convenient as it is quite close to the city. Unless you are not in the city, in which case it will be a little less convenient. It is a beautiful building from a time long ago, before humanity was in decline. A wonderful focal point for a walk through the gardens, you can also go in. During times of Covid I believe you could also be vaccinated here. I am not sure if they will continue to offer that service into the future but in any case, it is well worth looking at with one or both of your eyes.

It's one of the oldest buildings in Melbourne and part of a World heritage site. It's beautiful inside and out. The best pictures to be taken are between the carlton garden the water fountain and RBE. It is an amazing place to take pictures, there are a lot of events which happen here including graduations, Oktoberfest, Flower Show etc. FunFact : The University of Melbourne conducts it's offline Examination at Royal Exhibition Building as well Graduation ceremonies for multiple departments. A remarkable piece of historical architecture, and the First UNESCO World Heritage site in Australia. The artwork in the Royal Exhibition Building is mostly maintained to its original façade. The Dome Promenade was a wonderful, educational tour, with a stunning 360° view of Melbourne! Being adjacent to the Melbourne Museum. And standing in the lush, and lively, Carlton Gardens, the entire area makes for a fun and inquisitive day.

Traditional building in the heart of Carlton. The inside is wide and comfortable for exhibitions and functions. I visited it in occasion is the Christmas Market 2022. I admired the paintings in the walls and the ceilings. Parking is not easy, I preferred to take the public transport to get there. Trams 86 and 96 leave you practically at the doorstep. I attach some pictures of that event to illustrate my experience.

The Motor Classic exhibition at the Royal Exhibition Building is a must-see event for any car enthusiast. The exhibition showcases a stunning collection of classic cars from different eras, ranging from the early 1900s to the 1970s. The collection includes some of the most iconic cars in history, such as the 1929 Rolls-Royce Phantom II, the 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air, and the 1965 Ford Mustang. Each car is meticulously restored and presented in pristine condition, allowing visitors to appreciate the craftsmanship and beauty of these vintage automobiles. In addition to the cars, the exhibition also features interactive displays, including vintage petrol pumps, period advertisements, and even a retro garage complete with tools and equipment from the era. The exhibition is well organized and easy to navigate, with plenty of information provided about each car and its history. The curators have done an excellent job of presenting the cars in context, providing insight into the social and cultural trends that shaped the automotive industry throughout the 20th century. Overall, the Motor Classic exhibition is an exceptional showcase of automotive history that is both informative and enjoyable. Whether you are a classic car enthusiast or simply appreciate the beauty of these vintage vehicles, this exhibition is not to be missed.

The REB Dome Promenade Tour is awesome!! Highly recommended! To learn about the history of this beautiful, historical UNESCO World Heritage building! Everyone should do this tour! It can help with restoring the internal paintings too if the building which have ironically began drying out when the drainage was redone!

Went her during the Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show…it was on a Saturday and was too busy could not enjoy the show because we only had a glimpse of each showcase due to so many people. A bit pricey too! We could have gone on a Sunday afternoon which was cheaper and probably a lot quieter and merchandise could have been cheaper by the closing period. But hey! it would have been very nice showcase as I can see everyone taking pictures professionally. Loved the plants for sale and of course the food. Parking was easy underground the Melbourne Museum on a flat rate sorry could not remember the price.

I was taken to explore the inside of the Exhibition building and had an amazing time exploring and learning about this place. The views from the roof were sensational, especially looking over the gardens. The history of this place is mind blowing. Definitely a must when visiting Melbourne, Australia.

A great morning out with the Dome Promenade Tour. There was a baby exbo on same day so we didn’t view that level but you see the mezzanine and the basement (which has a historical wall of artefacts, pictures and content to browse. The building is rich in history being the place of the first sitting of parliament as well as other significant events. This is before the 9 flights of stairs to the top (there is a lift). The puffs up the stairs were worth it for a stunning of Melbourne skyline. I highly recommend the tour.
