One of the better parks in Melbourne, with good hiking trails and wildlife in abundance. The Yarra River flows through this park and there are a few rapids to be viewed. The hiking trails are well maintained and good for pram/strollers.

Stunning place to lose yourself after a hard day at work, to meet with friends for a picnic, to exercise around the many paths, to cycle amongst the many tracks, to spot the incredible array of Australian wildlife or to literally get lost and have your own adventure finding which car park your car was on like I did. This one such a beautiful place and must continue to be protected and admired.

Amazing experience! A friend of mine didn't expected to see kangaroos and then he was happy, as he saw a lot! It's such an amazing park. Quiet and peaceful. Perfect to connect with nature

Close to Dancaster, there is a large park where you can see several kangaroo tribes around Parking 5, basking in the sun and grazing. These days are lived so leisurely for them.

Fantastic place to go for a casual walk, orienteering or perhaps even an engagement? My partner surprised me on the Bridge towards the Main Yarra trail with getting down on one knee, but if that’s a bit much for your casual weekend stroll, you can enjoy all the dogs and beautiful scenery sans proposal. It really is a nice park, not too difficult to walk and lots of space to enjoy.

It is part of a group of parks connected to each other with plenty of spaces for different activities. You can walk, cycle, and play different types of sports. It is pet friendly. Many are using it to walk their dogs. There are scattered restrooms and drinking water points all over the park. It is suitable for family picnics.

Westerfold Park is surely a lovely place to spend time with friends and family for picnicking, playing ball games, doing sports on the well paved tracks, tree climbing, playing on the river banks. There are lots of parking spots and even though there could be a lot of people, it has so much space that you can enjoy your own private space. BBQ available (in limited numbers) alongside side sheltered table area. Toilets are also available. Kangaroos are sure to be seen. A must do park for everyone.

A serene, breezy park along the Yarra River. In proximity to suburbia. There are peaceful walking trails, bicycle tracks, playgrounds, barbecues, an abandoned manor, public bathrooms and, most heartening of all, an abundance of wildlife in the afternoon and early morning. The large families of kangaroos are worth the visit for all ages!

Highly recommend this spot for an almost guaranteed chance to see kangaroos up close! I most recently visited at 5pm on a Wednesday, and there were so many kangaroos at the east side of the park (see pic for location) 😍 There’s no need to hike much at all to bump into kangaroos - we parked our cars, walked towards the playground for a minute or so, and saw a hugeeee bunch of them hanging around at the field in front of the playground. We had previously visited a few days before too, and managed to spot kangaroos at the same spot :>

The trail is slightly undulating in parts. Trail goes through a variety of landscapes. In some places I half expected to see a cow nonchalantly chewing it's cud to look up at me from behind the scrub. I didn't see any cows but spotted a wombat burrow and lots of wombat scratchings diggings and their poo. We did see a mob of kangaroos lazing in the sun behind the bushes not too far from the trail though. It was a very pleasant day out.

Westerfolds is all you need for a massive natural park. Has good play equipment options, many bbqs with cover areas, tracks galore to walk, ride or wander with your hound. Special mention for single track action for biking. Also links through to all the other parks along the Yarra. This area is a fabulous area for outdoor activities. Walking areas taking in river walks, bush and open grasslands. The wild life is prolific and its worth spending several hours walking here. There are playgrounds for the kids and the fishing is worth wile for the patient.

A terrific place to wander and simply enjoy nature. There are miriads of walking trails going off in different directions, and no shortage of wildlife to observe. The park has many opportunities available for a barbecue or a picnic, and the vast playground is very popular with kids. It can get busy at times though.

Westerfold park is the best park nearby. There are several walking trails, all easy trails, but beautiful. Recommend to walk inside or along yarra river, will get better feeling than the main track. You can always see kangaroos there, plenty of them. Sometimes feel a bit scary if you meet a group of them by you own.:) Kids will love them. Also a good place for walking dogs.

If you’d like to see wild kangaroos, well this is a good park to go to! Very quiet and lots of wild nature around.. and yes, only less than 1h from the CBD by bus, you can get to see free and happy kangaroos!

A lovely park with amazing walking/cycling trails, barbeque and picnic area. The westerfolds loop track is 4.8 km and is easy to walk. There is also a city trail which is 32km long!! A few other smaller trails inside the park are also nice! There are multiple car parks, so do figure out where do you want to start with, we parked at gumtree car park. It took us about an hour to complete it as the path is steep at specific places. We saw several kangaroos at 6 feet distance around gum tree planting program. Def worth the visit…

One can spend a good day with kids and family here doing nature trails, walks, cycling and getting close to nature. To add to the fun you have Yarra bend to walk along as well. Good place on a sunny day.

So pretty! Really feels further out of the city than it actually is with how big it is and how tall the trees are. We went during a heatwave so the foliage was looking a little thirsty but I’m sure with a bit of rain it would be super green. Nice bike path around the park (hilly in parts) which I think was about 8km total, I believe it also connects you to the city if you’re up for riding over 30km… and we rode past plenty of picnic areas, a lookout point, facilities and a Manor (not sure why it’s there or what it’s for).

Great park, such a quiet location and you see all the native fauna at this park. I’ve seen wombats, echidnas, tonnes of Roos, kookaburras and tawny frogmouths. Plenty of walking tracks too. Thoroughly enjoy our trips to the park.

Very pretty parkrun, a single loop with some nice elevation but not too much of a killer (like some). As always a friendly crew & a decent turnout. Toilets & drinking fountain handy & plenty of parking - get the parkrun tourism happening

Wow, what a moment. As soon as I set foot in Melbourne, I rushed off to the park I'd heard so much about. If you're looking for the very essence of Australian wildlife just 45 minutes from the city centre, you've come to the right place. Kangaroos, rainbow lorikeets, yellow, red and pink cockatoos, kookaburra, platypus, etc... If, when you travel here, the landscape is dulled by the lack of your loved ones, it will be returned to you a hundredfold in the colours of those who make it up. If you'd like to see the other photos I've taken in this park, don't hesitate to check out my Instagram account @atwowayworld.

10/10. A scenic one-loop course through a bushy area. The entire terrain is on a bitumen track, easy to navigate, be mindful not to slip over. *toilets at startline. *friendly vollies/participants *lots of parking Westerfolds is known parkrun to be hilly, there is a hill during the 3rd kilometre. To be honest, I don't think the hill is that bad (compared to Wilsons Botanic, Maroondah Dam), but I figured I would mention the hill.

It is so relaxing. The scenery, the Yarra, the kangaroos all help clear the mind whilst giving a really good walk. Some of the hills can be a challenge but just relax into them.

Great open area with BBQs, playground, some undercover areas. Many carparks and entrances, even has a 24 carpark. You will definitely see Grey Kangaroos in the evening (just don't go too close as they are wild), sometime see Wombats, or the Koala. Great walking /riding tracks.

Nice big space, kangaroos to see, big areas to walk or bike through, playgrounds for the kids, some BBQs for gatherings. But very convoluted intertwined parking locations, lack of clear signage and non-helpful names for the parking areas make the initial meet-up with anyone else annoying.

Massive park which connects a track going towards the city and back the other way towards eltham and Warrandyte. Track loops around and goes up the hill and back around. Runs alongside the river and has some interesting side tracks.

  • 5/5 Eugenio 1 year ago on Google
It's such a beautiful peaceful park to go when not too busy. Beautiful Australian bushland with many different kinds of birds, kangaroos and trees. Considering it's very near city, it almost let you feel like you went far away, although in some points the noise from the highway can be heard and some high voltage towers can be seen. Overall I think it's a great park near city to wonder in nature, whether it's hiking, cycling or to observing wildlife! 🌿🌳🪨

I cant put into words how immaculate my experience was at this park, I did the 5km loop with my husband and dog and it was to die for! There is sometimes a coffee van in my case there was and i could get my almond latte while walking, it did not feel like 5km at all but a warning in advance the big hill at the end gets your legs moving ladies!

Great park for walking or cycling, with or without your dog. It would be worth 5 stars except and unfortunately there are no bins, so you will need to take out anything you bring, including your dog’s waste. Toilets are a disgrace. Unfortunately, some are used as rubbish bins and repositories for dog waste!

Great park, huge!! With loads of walking tracks!! The best part is the kangaroos!!! There's loads of them and they seem to always be around everytime I've gone. Also it's close to i think it's the Yarra, which has a big expansive bridge going across which is really cool. I'm told you can spot platypus there too!

    Amazing park

  • 5/5 Nadia F. 3 years ago on Google
Beautiful large natural park with a great kid's playground. The little one enjoyed it. Only problem is if you come by bus like we did you have a HELL of a time crossing the busy road to the bus stop with huge traffic running both ways. One has to wait so long that its possible to miss a bus due to unsafe conditions to cross in time. Some lights at the entry/exit would be great. Also there was nowhere for the pedestrians to walk from the main entrance at Fitzsimmons lane once entering the park. It was just the traffic lanes so one had to be constantly on the alert to watch out for cars while pushing the stroller otherwise definitely a wonderful natural bushland park to visit.
