Westfield Southland

Shopping center

😐 A bit of an underwhelming shopping centre if you ask me. It has most shops here but it has a lot of annoying little aspects, for one if you want to go all the way up the escalators, they are situated all the way towards the car park entrance on the ground floor, so you have to walk the entire length... People often mention shopping, parking, centre, shops, Southland, stores, good, great, Westfield, variety,

A bit of an underwhelming shopping centre if you ask me. It has most shops here but it has a lot of annoying little aspects, for one if you want to go all the way up the escalators, they are situated all the way towards the car park entrance on the ground floor, so you have to walk the entire length in order to reach the first floor if you are on the opposite side. Not only that, but these escalators are incredibly slow and you'll often be bogged down by people who have these massive trolleys. If I didn't have a specific reason to come here, I would personally avoid this Westfield.

I love Southland. I have been coming here since the 1980's and have witnessed great change over that time. Some great (extending over Nepean Hwy) others not so great (removal of rooftop garden, Myer furniture room displays, newsagent), but I keep coming back as it has nearly everything you want under one roof, movies, lots of food options and a variety of shops. However there is a problem with the paid parking, $35 for 7 hours is ridiculous! And yes if you go the movies, have something to eat and visit several shops you will be there for 7 hours (as my patient husband will attest!). Anyway everytime I visit a wave of nostalgia washes over me even if the place is so so different to when Allen's/Brashs, Eastcoast jeans (I think it was called that), Hilton's dresses (so glitzy!), Bass ticket outlet, the donut shop (Snowflake?, where they had an American style counter where you could sit and watch each donut being made), Darrell Lea and more were there. So yes visit for what you want to see, what you want to eat, and what you want to buy, meet your friends there and create your own memories of good times at Southland. 14.3 make sure you get the Westfield app and enter competition to win $10k. App also gives you an extra hour of parking. 16.2.23 noticed in food court they have a bitcoin machine! What! Also saw where you pick up your click and collect. Went to movies, food court, OPSM, Walkers Donuts, David Jones, Target, QBD books. Very very quiet today. 29.6 just movies and sushi today. 7.7. With 2 kids so it was all about The Pancake Parlour, Totally Game and Make a Disney Princess tiara.

Westfield Southland is a large multilevel shopping centre South of Melbourne. Unusually the centre straddles a major 8 lane road, the Nepean Highway with a massive multilevel sky bridge that has shops and restaurants on it. The sky bridge is so large it almost qualifies as a shopping centre on its own. A Shopping Centre in the sky! Southland is very large and as it's split over both sides of the Highway navigating it can be a bit difficult as you can't just walk from one side to the other if you are on the ground floor as you need to go up to the Skybridge, walk close to 150 metres across it, then down again. Make sure you memorise where you've parked and which level as it's not too hard to lose it. Unlike Chadstone or Westfield Doncaster, the centre is rather dated, although spotlessly maintained but with little of visual interest. Standard range of shops and services with several food courts/dining areas around the centre, but nothing like the exceptional food court at Doncaster Westfield with massive panorama windows, interesting layout and furnishings as well as the recently developed restaurant precinct upstairs. Worth a visit to see how good some of our other major shopping centres really are.

I absolutely love Southland Shopping Centre, I personally think it's the best all round Shopping centre in Melbourne along with Chadstone only the parking is less stressful at Southland, it has just about every store you can think of. I highly highly Recommend Westfield Shopping Centre Southland! 🏘🚈🏢🚌🏘

One of the largest shopping centres I have been to. This place has everything and it is close to public transport. It is highly accessible to wheelchairs and aged with elevators and escalators throughout. There are plenty of clean toilets.

A great local shopping centre under one roof. The pros; there is generally good and available parking, even during peak Christmas, the Village Cinemas here is very good especially the Gold Class, and there are plenty of good eating options now. The Coles here is in my opinion the best Coles Store in the state, maybe the country. The one drawback I see is that it’s lacking a bit of international names that Chadstone have. Would love to see some big names like Uniqlo, H&M, Zara etc appear to give it a bit of star power.

Since when are DOGS allowed in the food court? Child in charge of a puppy allowing it on tables. I understand people need service dogs but find it hard to believe a 8 week old poodle puppy qualifies. No vest or anything signifying it was a service dog. Don’t even bother trying to contact Centre management, they could not care less.

Personally like the fact that it has a more calm atmosphere. Not as hectic as other shopping malls bit still everything you need and want.

Great store and in the local area. It has all the stores you need and want. The parking is always easy to find a spot and the public transport access is extremely good. There are buses running there as well as a train station. It also has a large bus port so is a good spot if you need to go somewhere from there.

It is quite rare for us to visit this Westfield shopping centre as it is not located near our usual hangout places. Good easy to find parking despite busy crowds during weekend and lots of shopping variety to satisfy Christmas gift list. The mall management did well to curate the right mix of shops catering for all age and price range !

Love the actual shopping centre, but stayed for over 3 hours and was not given free 3 hour parking, but was charged for it. $19 instead of the usual $3-4! Not making this mistake again. What a rip off and so deceptive! The signs need to say "3 hours free parking, but only if you stay for under 3 hours".

Sucks, this is my local shopping centre and the rates for parking are insane. I believe this is due to the train station opposite, but still, that shouldn't be on us as the consumer. $9 for five or so hours (I initially parked on Target end and paid $3 on my exit and lazily parked over the other side at the Kmart end to run in and out - and in hopes to reset the parking - and it ended up combining the parking together anyway. Despite being there for a shorter time, on my second exit, I was charged an additional $7. So, $10 total). I might as well go to Chadstone and have a wider selection of shops available to me where the parking is free. I feel like this is the only Westfield that does it too... It's seemed awfully empty when I've gone in the last few times - might have something to do with it. I spoke to someone over the phone, and they were able to refund some of the monies that I was overcharged and were super lovely and helpful, but was still $9 after the refund... Don't forget to get a receipt or advise the cinema if you are going in for a movie. Otherwise, you'll get charged $4 parking like I was...mental. The man over the phone was able to refund me that too. I know it's only $5 total, but it's the principle and it looks like others got hit worse than I did in the reviews below. The shop itself is fantastic. But judging by what I've read and my own personal experiences, I don't know how it plans to keep open with so many unhappy customers. People are struggling nowadays and can barely afford to shop as it is, least of all to pay these wild parking fees to a company that doesn't lack in money...City parking is cheaper! People will end up doing run in click and collects and won't be able to afford to spend the day looking around or eating in and the smaller businesses will take the fall.

Overall not bad.A good variety of shops. But not easy to get around.Eventually found an information desk by accident, and asked for directions to a store we had been trying to find for 30 mins. The service lady was a bit rude and kept cutting me off mid sentence when I suggested putting some touch screen maps about the centre.I got the impression she had heard that many times before! She basically threw me a fold out map to the place!I thought I was back in the 90's!Management need to put touch screen maps at strategic locations throughout the shopping centre,Maybe at the escalators that are situated all over the centre and get with the times.Make the place more customer orientated and customer friendly.

Great shopping centre for Saturday visits. It’s a massive shopping complex with a cinema, food court, and a huge number of shops to fulfill your needs. It’s get busy a lot in Saturdays, but thanks for it’s ample space for parking, you can have the peace of mind when finding a parking spot.

There’s lots of parking… just remember where you park.. and google it so that you’ll be led to the closest parking. Cleaners are nice and the centre is clean. There’s 2 concierge that are always helpful. Please watch up for give way signs and arrows on the road at the parking area.. just tips. And please leave the parking that are for parents with prams for the parents with prams. It’s dangerous for parents with prams to be parked so far away especially if they have more than the pram to look out for at the parking area, be a bit considerate. And smokers please think of others when you want to smoke. It’s annoying for non smokers. Thanks for reading.

Love the experience as we don't go to the bigger shopping places often. Easy to find shops using the information screens and the personnel who work there are very helpful, lots of places to eat and the free parking is a great change for the first 3 hours.

Parking was $9 for 4 hours - misleading advertising as the first 3 hours are free so we paid a lot. No help when I called about it just - well that’s our policy. One of the most expensive shopping centres ever and we spent a lot on the day, but no empathy or understanding at all. You shouldn’t have to pay so much when you have spent so much. And we didn’t download the app as I’m a bit app exhausted and should have an option to show receipts to get some sort of a discount

Love this place! It’s a 5 minutes walk from my home 🏡 & it’s a very nice 🛒 🛍️ mall. I recommend it! Really nice & clean! Toilets could be cleaned better & more regularly. They need staff that are adequate at their jobs. I’ve seen great cleaners used there, amazing Infact! So Infact they really need them ASAP In the ladies loo. That’s all I can say! Thanks 😊 nice fresh scones from Baker’s delight melt in my mouth. I’m always asked by my teenage son (can be very hard to please when eating)“ mum can you get my some scones”

Whilst i enjoy southland shopping, i am disappointed that there is only 1 lift to access for wheelchairs. And i find it disappointing that a huge trolley of boxes to be delivered was using the lift before all the elderly citizens with walking frames and wheelchairs. Isn't there a service elevator? Such a huge shopping centre, but not enough elevators/lifts.

Although my visit was made during the very busy lead up to the Christmas period, I was still able to easily find parking due to the ample parking options available at this location. Southland is kept very clean and the unique layout makes it very convenient to access all the stores with ease.

  • 3/5 Gary M. 2 months ago on Google • 60 reviews New
Don’t spend much time there anymore since they started the 3 hour parking. I go maybe a couple of times a year and it’s because I have to as the store is in there . I ran out of time but still had one more store to go to and planned to spend a lot of money in but not time left in my 3 hour limit. So that store missed out because of the stupid parking limit. I will go to another outside Southland. Since the parking limit came in the car park is never full. Before it you struggled to get a spot. Worth it out Westfield. You’re killing your own business.

It was bigger than I expected. Loads and loads of shops. My favourite feature is that it has got interactive info panel everywhere, and it’s easy to navigate through places. Not many windows for natural light, but the space is well managed. Though there are lots of cafes and eateries, the food court could have more options or varieties.

What is happening to Southland?? Quality stores closing being replace with nail salons/ massage salons and $2 shops . Get a grip Westfield, look at Chadstone and LEARN. . Do the EXTENSIVE renovations it needs . The only upgrade are the travelators that should have been done YEARS AGO . With your profits DO SOMETHING !!!

  • 1/5 Jo H. 2 months ago on Google • 5 reviews New
Southland is in desperate need of an updated renovation. The Food court upstairs is deplorable , its clean but has very few options with food outlets closing regularly. Southland just has an overall feel of being tired 😕. If I had to choose of shopping at Southland or going to Chadstone, I will go out of my way to go to Chadstone. It would be great if Southland did a Reno like Westfield Knox or Doncaster.

Closest shopping centre to me. Not a lot of parking - has everything you need but does get really busy in peak times. Customers don't socially distance in a pandemic - probably a reflection on the rules put in place by Westfield.

If you’re thinking of going there for essential stores or Coles during the pandemic don’t bother. Security everywhere treating you like you shouldn’t be there and temporary fences that won’t sllow you to cross through to Coles. Same in the CarPark security everywhere and parts roped off forcing you to park in a very small overcrowded section rather than being able to make full use of the car park and space out. May as well close completely. Drove off and went to a stand alone Coles to spend my $450.

The mall is spacious, has both Kmart and Big W, which is perfect when you need to buy home stuffs, you can check out both stores. There aren't many restaurant choices or cafes. The parking however on the down side is not free. It is only free for the first 3 hours.

Probably one of the bigger Westfield's I have been to in a while. There's plenty on offer with lots of stores to visit and look through. Cinema complex area, cars on display and a host of food outlets to cater for all tastes. There are plenty of amenities around the whole plaza. Access to each of the floors is very easy with a lot of them about. The interior is quite bright and the place was kept clean to a high standard. The food court had a few options on offer and the seating quite adequate for the purpose at hand. Prices were quite reasonable as well. The 3 hour free parking is very handy, especially if like me you were only there for a specific purpose and not to spend the whole day shopping.

  • 5/5 Daryl C. 2 years ago on Google
Southland has everything I need. The major retailers are spread out across 2 main buildings connected by an overpass which means there is a fair bit of walking (if you're looking to get your step count up) so there is a bit of planning required if you're not looking to walk and back and forth for things. The shopping centre is clean, accessible, has plenty of parking, a variety of food options, and represents the famous Westfield brand well. If you're a tourist it's worth a visit simply for the cool overpass if not for anything else.

Went to see a movie and then they wanted us to pay NINE DOLLARS for parking!! At a shopping centre which has never had paid parking before!! I could walk all the way back to the cinema on crutches to get a discount coupon because I bought my ticket online, or just pay and NEVER come back. I chose the latter. We live local and have been shopping at Southland since the 90s. NEVER AGAIN. We're done! We're so angry at what is nothing but greed.

Its got everything you need, heaps of free parking and is clean and less crowded than chadstone. Definitely prefer for my longer shops and Christmas shopping. Only thing is if you're coming specifically for a shop make sure you park on the correct side of Nepean highway or you're in for a long walk!

Westfield is okay. Needs more available staff in their stores. Parking layout is average. Not always close parking for parents with kids. Food courts are average at best for variety. Signage, lifts and amenities could be better but are okay.

The shopping centre has changed since Covid, a few businesses have been affected. Some have closed and new exciting stores have opened up, l like the fact that most popular stores are located within the one centre. Just need to have the legs to walk it.

Great place to shop (if you can do this in 3 hours or less). Wonderful atmosphere and a great range of shops.

The good thing about here is it's easier to get a parking space compared to other big shopping mall like Chadstone, Melbourne Central or Emporium. Used to have a lot more food selection but post covid there are many shops had closed. Some of the parents room would require a bit of care as some of them would require some maintenance.

Some reasons why I prefer going to Southland. 1. It's close to where I live 2. There is a train station near to it 3. It has the big stores I like - JB Hi-fi, Myer, Coles etc 4. The food outlets are good and varied (Pancake Parlour was an interesting recent addition) 5. The smaller shops cover many of the basics It's not as big as Chadstone and a whole bunch of others in shop numbers or size. Yet it is a bit of a hike for aging legs to go from the station to the Comm Bank via the bridge. Does size matter I ask? Parking is a bit bonkers at times and those speed bumps can be a bit rough. It's not perfect. It should satisfy most shoppers, I think

Its a nice shopping centre with a great selection of stores. I went specifically for Cinnabon as its the only outlet in whole Melbourne. The restaurant area has a great variety of cuisines. Very clean and tidy. I recommend this shopping centre.

Great size centre, not too big like Chaddy & has lots of varied shops. You can pretty much find whatever you need. Having said that, although the shops seem to update & refresh regularly, the centre itself needs some work. Travelators/escalators are forever out of order (those near endota spa are out of order more than they work) & the air conditioning/heating is a lottery. Either far too hot or freezing, rarely comfortable. Needs an upgrade. 5 stars for the shops, 3 stars for the overall centre amenities.

Oh my gosh. Phoebe is amazing. I have always been happy with her knowledge of colour and style. I get both tape and weft extensions and she truly is a genius. I ruined my hair with colour and now she is helping me amend the condition and colour. Couldn’t be happier to spend my money here.

firstly, go to chaddy, save yourself. this is an ok shopping center has everything you'd expect but the layout is underwhelming. the food court is eh.. In places it seems out dated and in others looks really good. the carparks are confusing, but when the place is spread out its not surprising

Travelator near Myer entrance. Going up with a trolley load of shopping. Some young kids down the other end pressed the STOP button and we got stuck half way up. This is the second time it’s happened and we had to carry trolley up the travelator. Contacted centre management and was told it’s not a security issue and they cannot lock it to prevent it from happening again. How about the elderly or invalids with trolley full of shopping? Shame on you centre management!

The ladies in Bevilles were friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful, when it came to choosing a new watch. The girls in Max Brenner were lovely and friendly. The staff in Woolies were friendly and helpful. The only thing I question, is the fact that you have to pay for parking (after 3 hours). Remind me, has it always been like this? Even Chaddy has free parking! Silly, really, cos people might stay there longer if the parking was free 🤔

I've always gone to Southland since I was a little kid, and it's honestly decent. There are a large variety of shops to go to, an arcade, and cinema. If you're looking for a shopping centre with new events/large variety of activities happening often I wouldn't say this would be one of them, it's more of a place you go to where you're fairly certain you'll find what you're looking for there, or just want to wander around. At the end, it's still a reliable and good place to go to when you want to go out shopping with friends and the like!

It was one of the best shopping centres I've ever been in. There was a large variety of stores and brands, and the food selection is fantastic. One thing to note, however, is that the drive is quite lengthy from Melbourne city. Although you could take the train.

Disgusting taking advantage of shoppers with parking fees. Time limits could have been better thought out, A set 5hr limit would have given shoppers better outcomes, and fees could apply after that. All the money coming in should be used to upgrade disgusting toilets. Also escalators need upgrading without steps so more people with wheel chairs and prams have better access to other levels. Most lifts are always crowded with risks of Covid spreading . Without customers shopping the big Centers would not survive

Great shopping centre. Very clean with a wide variety of stores. Delicious cafes and restaurants to drink and eat at. Enjoy and chill with friends or a loved one.

Please advise the cleaning staff to clean the parents rooms in the centre. The bins have not been emptied and are overflowing with dirty nappies. It smells and is very unpleasant for parents and kids who need to use the rooms.

Good parking 4hrs free! Who’s gonna stay at a shopping centre that long anyways. I like the cinema and lots of shops

Westfield Southland proves to be a worthwhile journey, despite being a bit of a trek across town. Meeting a friend for lunch created a pleasant break, and my visit to the Apple Store on another occasion added to the diverse experience. The sheer size of the complex ensures a plethora of stores to explore, making it a comprehensive shopping destination.

This cheese and Vegemite toasted sandwich at Brioche was SO good. The cheese was melted inside and crispy on the outside. Really good coffee too.

As someone else has mentioned in their review: "great place to shop if you can do it in 3 hours". If you can park, do your shopping/see a movie, go to the toilet, have a meal, then get back to your car and drive out of the carpark within 3 hours, all good! If you can't manage that, expect to pay up to $35 for the privilege of spending your money at a Westfield shopping centre in the suburbs. Yesterday, I thought I'd be fine with my free 4 hours of parking, a perk of being a special Westfield Southland member. Needing to make a particular clothing purchase, and therefore having to visit a number of stores and try clothes on, I thought staying LESS THAN 1.5 HOURS over my "free" parking time might cost $3-4. Wow! $14 for LESS THAN 1.5 HOURS!! My son shopped at Southland today, and unfortunately I hadn't yet shared my experience with him. He was charged $30 for parking, to spend his money at Southland! I had to quickly transfer money to his account so he could pay the hefty and unexpected fee to exit. I had wondered when I arrived, why the shopping centre was so weirdly empty. Was there some huge festival or event happening nearby that everyone had gone to? The penny dropped (so to speak), when I was charged the $14 parking fee. I'll be happy to drive a bit further to shop at Chadstone in future. It's sad for the businesses at Southland.

Had the unfortunate experience of needing to use the toilets at the entrance on the ground floor near a bottle shop (Target side). Only one soap working , only one hand dryer working and the toilets themselves were absolutely disgusting. Those facilities haven’t changed in over 20 years. Do better. You have the cheek to charge parking and retailers pay a fortune in rent. You can afford to upgrade the toilets. Just disgraceful.
