Such amazing vegan food here with friendly staff, the Vegan Rendang curry, Mapo tofu, the curry veg chicken are all the most amazing versions of these dishes I’ve ever had. The staff are also very pleasant.

I had been going there for years, and I am known to nearly all staff there but I’ve noticed that their service Is getting worse and worse every time I visited. I went there with my friends on Friday night and we ordered more than $100 of food and yet the service was even worse than I had ever experienced. They need to understand that they are not the only vegetarian restaurant in Melbourne and there are so many more places that offer good food and good service. We don’t go there to see waitresses roll their eye balls when we order a table full of food and pay top dollars. That was gonna be my very last time there ever and I will also tell my friends to avoid there at all cost.

Vegetarian Chinese food at its best. This place has all the most popular Chinese dishes from your Sweet n Sour Pork to Sizzling Black Pepper Steak to Fried Fish but made with vegetables. The taste of the meat name dishes tastes exactly like eating meat without the meat. A must visit to change your perception that vegetarian food is not tasty.

So delicious! Good portion for good price. This was the duck and BBQ pork rice for only around $15.5. It even comes with a soup on the side. Also really loved the fin soup as well. Amazing staff. Waitress was too kind :)

I have been wanting to eat here for quite a while. The wait was worth it and the food, service and atmosphere did not disappoint. The flavors were fantastic and the dishes filling. We had the lemon chicken and the sizzling tofu washed down with a non alcoholic beer. The waitress was very lovely also. Keep in mind as per the name everything is vegetarian, even the 'meat' dishes.

I have to say, this might just be one of the most scrumptious vegetarian place I have ever tasted. I’m a very picky eater, but I’m happy to eat at VeggieHut any day! My favourite dish is their Roast Duck. Its really just so so good! Their honey chicken is my second favourite. I’m not even vegetarian and yet I always leave my plate spotless when it comes to VeggieHut’s meals. 10/10

One of the best vegetarian restaurants in Melbourne, regardless of cuisine. Came here on a Sunday for the special discounted lunch menu as well as Yum cha - the congee is amazing and definitely a must try. Bowl was absolutely huge. We tried both the soy fish and century egg and couldn't get enough! We've been here many many times and have tried most things on the menu and can honestly say there are no bad dishes. Serving sizes have definitely shrunk recently a bit compared to the past but flavour is still there!

This venue is AMAZING with amazing and kind people. Great food with lots of choices. Menu is vegetarian, some of the dishes that have non-veg names are made from soya meat.

Unpleasant experience. Google shows they close at 9:30pm so we reached at 8:30pm for the dinner last week. Just when we entered the restaurant staff told us they will shut at 9pm so we need to place the order quickly. We placed the order in approx. 5mins and they got us our order at 8:50pm. There is no way you can finish your food in 10mins. All the staff stood at the reception and kept on staring until we finished our food. (It was very awkward) and we ended up doing a take away because it was very uncomfortable the way they were giving us looks because it was 9:05pm!? Food was decent but I wouldn’t go back as the customer service is below average.

Loved the food. Every dish we ordered tasted so good. Only reason for giving 3 stars is the bad attitude of the lady providing service. She seemed so rude towards us probably due us being from a different ethnic background. Not sure if we'll be going back again!

Food is a little better than the competing vege- places ... But also a little more expensive. It feels cosy and is a decent place to have a vegetarian dinner.

Used to be 5 stars with the flavourful variety of lunch dishes and generous portions, however the last few times have had disappointing small portions. Not worth the price anymore. Photo below shows generous portion before but now its not even half of that.

Been here for the last 20 years! Finally we can take photos of the food 😂. Ok, on a serious note. Two must order dishes that goes well with rice. Assam fish and herbal lamb hotpot. All vegetarian of course! Enjoy!

VegieHut was one of the first vegetarian/vegan restaurants on this area and remains the best in Box Hill. The dishes are authentic, the staff are friendly and their menu is extensive. It will please those looking for more authentic taste as well as those that are accustomed to westernised Chinese dishes.

Nice food with friendly service. The only thing we didn’t like was the pepper pork strip soup too much pepper. So you cannot really taste much with other dishes.

Dining at this restaurant is like being transported to an authentic vegetarian restaurant in Asia. The atmosphere is very old school Chinese restaurant style where family would come together and have a nice banquet. The service was exceptionally quick. The food was fresh and delicious. We've had the combination crispy noodle, hot pot tofu, chicken satay, hot and sour soup. They're all tasty. We will try the mock meat option next time as they all look really delicious.

Vegetarian dishes need to be fresh, and your freezer needs a deep clean. It's unfortunate to have the unpleasant taste from your dishes.

Always book in advance before going or risk not having a table. Their vegetarian cuisines stands out in all others' vegetarian restaurants. Attracting guests from all backgrounds and ethnicities. I have been a customer with the restaurant for over twenty plus years. Never disappointed. Highly recommended.

It’s a good vegetarian restaurant . Some of the dishes are very delicious such as sesame-seed veggie -prawn👍👍, pickles Delight👍,Roasted Movk-duck👍👍, Sizzling black pepper Steak👍. But the Sweet &Sour soy pork and Low-Hun Mix Vegetables aren’t not as our expected. Also the special Fried Yee mee this Yee mee isn’t same as we usually know that kind of Yee mee😂.

Had heard about this one 5 years ago, got a chance to experience their food today. We ordered pepper steak, duck, dumplings, stay skewers and sizzling spicy fish, all of which were super delicious and flavour packed. The staff was very welcoming and served with care. I am a vegetarian will definitely be coming back soon.

The man who owns this store is a very good man with good customer service who stands by the ethos of veganism. Great food always great customer service and very healthy. Veganism is the future, eating animals is wrong. I highly recommend vegiehut

Almost like real meat but without the grease and heaviness of those over fried meat substitutes. Almost just like the real deal, the trick they have is with the sauce and seasoning. Great textures and great flavours at reasonable prices. If you're looking to try vegetarian food but also don't want to be too adventurous, veggie hut is a good place to start.

We used to be regular customers, but since our son moved away from Box Hill, we have been dining at other vegetarian restaurants in the other areas. Last night was an unsatisfactory experience as we found out the food quality was not as good as before and the service was even worse. The lady at the cashier was extremely rude even though we were trying to conduct an ice-breaking conversation with her. My husband and I ordered four dishes, and only the Taru Duck was acceptable. Even though it is relevantly more expensive than other vegetarian restaurants, we wouldn't mind as long as the food quality and service is good. In our case, we paid more but were treated unnecessarily below industry standard. Their attitude was cold and they don't have any patience to most of the customers (Don't know how they decide who deserves more friendly treatment?). My husband and I will definitely NOT return to Vegie Hut again!

It’s was an awful experience. The staff is rude and very unfriendly. You are pretty much paying to feel unwanted at the restaurant. You will be served with rolling eyes and hostility. The food is good but the staff spoils the whole experience.

Nice vegetarian meals. They have yum cha on Sunday at lunch time. My favourite dishes are drey beef rice noodle roast duck with rice.

  • 4/5 Alvin N. 10 years ago on Google
Great tasty vegetarian food with lots of mock meat options so even non-vegetarian people would love the food. Prices are cheap and the lunch and dinner menus are different so there is a lot to choose from. Make sure you give them a call before visiting though because it can get busy on the weekends and you might have to wait a bit for seats.

The best restaurant in Melbourne EVER! I don’t live in Melbourne but whenever I am in the city I always come here! The food is delicious, staff are super friendly, it’s always busy because it’s amazing! The chicken curry is incredible, special fried rice is so good, mock duck is my favourite along with the lemon chicken and honey chicken!! Everything you order is soo good. Love it, 10/10 every time!

Malaysian authentic food, though I do miss the way the dishes were made in the past...for example the Assam fish used to be made with banana leaf, and the yam baskets came with vermicelli. Probably a change in the chef

Having lunch with friends on Sunday. They have dim sim. We tried curry dim sum and Hing Kong Style gluten. These two dishes are tasty. For the main are mixed mushroom hot pot, Penang Assam fish, sizzling tofu and rice with combo. They are good, particularly the tofu and mushroom. Staff are friendly. Definitely Italy go back there again.

Food was alright, but the attitude of their staff is downright disgusting. The person ushering us to our seats was nearly barking at us and even before we made it to our seats we were asked if we wanted "plates". I was caught off guard as I learnt that they either provide the chinese cutlery (bowl and chopsticks) or the usual cutlery (plate, spoon and fork) but not both! Their menu also says a minimum spend of $22 per adult at the restaurant - never seen this at any other reputable store. The real fun came when we ordered the egg fried rice, however what came to us didnt have egg in it. This set off the indignant lady at the service and tried to convince us that we ordered this. When asked for the manager, I was told the manager was unavailable for this. The lady proceeded to grab the plate off the table and took it away. So much for consent. At this point we couldn't wait to leave this place. Every member of the staff had a smug sense of superiority and treated diners with contempt (unless customers were white I guess) and that is why despite the food being overall acceptable, albeit very overpriced and greasy - I will never be returning to this restaurant or recommending it.

This restaurant is an absolute gem that I'd enthusiastically recommend to vegans and non-vegans alike. With an unparalleled variety of dishes and dietary options, ranging from organic ingredients to Instagram-worthy plating, this place truly offers a gastronomic adventure. The service is not just exceptional; it's on a whole other level, making every visit feel like stepping into a second home rather than a restaurant.
