Change of ownership and chef? Food look different to the previous pictures. For that price this quality and ingredients it's really not with the money. The Korean waitress made me feel like my whole existence was a mistake. The food was super sugary and everything was drenched in sauce water

Had the most wonderful experience at Yong Green last night. My friend and I were served by Kashew (hope that's how you spell it) and it was the most attentive and friendly service we have has in a long long time. The lovely server took us through the menu so patiently (everything looked so good it was overwhelming) and gave us the best suggestions. The food was clean, fresh, healthy and huuuuge and we will definitely be back. Also - whatever you're paying this amazing man, it's not enough!!! 10/10 service :)

Vegan restaurant with an interesting menu. It took a little while to get attention, and another little while for the dishes to come. We ordered king oysters calamari which is surprisingly good, the nacho is simple and healthy. The pad Thai is a refreshing cold sweet one but the tofu katsu needs a bit more love. Was meant to try the beer and Berry milkshake but they forgot to give us the drinks. The lovely 5'2" single-eyed chef was lovely, came over to have a quick chat while delivering our food and also cleared up the plates. Lovely gesture and even cracked a joke. He himself worths the star! The lady apologised for the night, I guess it is a big shoe to fill when the previous owners had done a great job setting the business up, running it well and setting the bar high. A lot more effort is needed to keep it up and definitely potential to improve. Parking is a little tricky outside that you'd need to either walk 100m to the left or right to pay, or you can use paystay app.

Tried this place because I was intrigued by the number of high ratings and reviews. Struggled to make sense what makes the food spectacular. Sure the tofu and fried mushroom are nice, but the rest is simply a fresh salad of fruit and vegetables. Quite pricey as well. Maybe it is just me who don't get the art of appreciating 'green food'.

Just don't go here. We waited for our food over an hour, service was horrible, food was average. After being ignored for 30 minutes we finally got to order, then one dish arrived and we waited another ten minutes to get cutlery for it. Two drinks never arrived, when the other mains arrived the first dish was luke warm. No apologies or explanation. Food, drinks and cutlery (after asking for it) was just slammed on the table. The staff knew no one enjoyed themselves. Why not give context to patrons and let people know that you're short on staff, the meals will be delayed by half a day and that the kitchen hadn't been cleaned in what looked like forever? Yuck. Save yourself time and money and have a better experience at vegie bar across the road. I really hope Yong picks up their act. They confirmed owners have changed and what was once a lovely vegetarian dining experience seems like a place run by frustrated men that don't want to be there and don't understand what this place was or should be like.

Ok now this food is another level. I think Japanese people run this place and if so that would make sense. Their attention to details and flavours are incredible. Some of the best deserts in Melbourne. Highly recommended!!

Food was decent. Loved the dessert. But some improvements might help, i.e. not reusing the menu sheets. Ours were stained and made not too good a first impression when we sat down at our table...

I'm an Omnivore but in this place I was perfectly content to be a herbivore. I never knew Oyster Mushroom Calamari could be so good! The deep fried the mushroom in rice and chickpea batter was better than most real calamari versions I've ever had. The Japchae was sweet potato noodles pan fried with various vegetables. There was a sweetness in the savoury dish that made me want another mouthful and another mouthful. My friend's Japanese Curry was outstanding - fragrant, flavoursome and filling. The hearty dish is ideal for the upcoming cold weather. Efficient service in a well lit space with some interesting focal points. Take a moment and look up.

1st time eating here, would definitely not repeat. Ordered online and took the order 45 mins to be acknowledged so I ended up ordering something else as they were uncontactable. Did eventually get a text saying the food would be ready in 15, ended up being another 30 mins. As I had been waiting at the counter for 15 picked the food up โ€˜freshโ€™. Somehow though it was all cold through still - chucked it after one bite. Luckily I still had the other food from Veggie Mum down the road - which was great! Sorry if the restaurant is having a hard time due to Covid at the moment but I would definitely avoidโ€ฆ

Disappointed to find this place has really declined since I visited a few years ago, when the food was amazingly creative and exciting. The menu has become quite generic and uninteresting. I hope this place can find its feet again. And changing out the bright white light bulbs would make a huge difference. ๐Ÿ˜„

Amazing food, brilliant service. If you find Jace, he is the most helpful person you would find in any restaurant. I visit this place at least once a week or sometime twice. Mains are good size, never felt that I need more food after having 1 main dish.

Great experience! Delicious Vegan Thai Green Curry and Cauliflower fritters. Amazing place to eat. We would go again surely! We also asked if the food could be served faster because we had to leave soon. We were listened to, and they did make it pretty quick, with no hassles or drop in quality. Great experience :) Thumbs up, five stars!

All vegan restaurant who's small size belies the quality and range of the menu. Service is very quick and the portions are just the right size. I highly recommend the Singapore Char noodles which have a fantastic flavour that U thought about for days

Best vegan stop for dinner. Highly reccomend the jackfruit burger, it is so satisfying it doesn't need a side salad or chips. The coleslaw is really creamy and goes well with the rest of the burger. Other favorites are the green curry (note that batches can differ a lot though!) And the udon noodles I have eaten at Yong Greens over many years and they have held their consistent high standard of food quality- I have never been disappointed or had to ask for something to be remade

Good effort, bad experience. I ordered a pineapple rice, knowing it normally is not spice, but even knowing this I asked the waitress that I didnโ€™t wanted any spice on it. Guess what! It had spice on it... it took them 20 minutes to come with another version in a not a busy restaurant. Other plates where average. I wouldnโ€™t recommend this restaurant, as there are so many good other options around.

I used to love this place, Iโ€™m not sure if there is new management, but last night was the worst dinner Iโ€™ve had by far. We bought 5 dishes & a entree, paying over $100. The food that was eatable was oily, the nachos didnโ€™t even come with guac or sour cream, & the teriyaki didnโ€™t even come with rice. The burger was hard & stale & not even worth eating. We waited originally for 20 minutes and came to collect, then the chef told us to wait another 10 minutes, came by after 15 minutes & then waited 10 minutes whilst him & his friend that he called in to help him. When we complained, all he offered was if we come in and spend another $50, heโ€™ll give us a free entree and free dessert. We werenโ€™t happy with that, so he said to give him our number & heโ€™ll text through bank account transfer details for $20 refund of the nachos. He did not respond, so we went back and all he gave us a $15 refund & two desserts. Really disappointed with this whole experience.

Such delicious vegan food. The oyster calamari, pancake roll, thai curry, and tempeh patty were so tasty!! We ordered a real feast from yong green because I missed the deadline for Providoor and imo this was a better meal than the vegan Smith and Daughters banquet we had a few weeks back (which was still amazing!) Highly recommended!!

This used to be a favourite of mine, but the food quality has drastically changed. I think there must be new owners or chefs, the staples I have ordered for years taste completely different now - very bland and not worth the money. Sad to see this institution lose its panache.

So disappointed. Yong Green has obviously changed ownership and to say it has gone downhill is an understatement. After waiting one hour for a takeaway it has been thrown in the bin after two mouthfuls- absolutely revolting. A real shame, it used to be a gem.

So, so sad to see what Yong Green has become :( Used to be the best quality vegan food and now it is just terrible. I feel bad as the staff were SO LOVELY, so so lovely, but the food was actually disgusting. I ordered the Japanese curry and It made me sick - was just corn and peas in gravy, nothing else. So sad - I hope they read their reviews and improve the quality to what it used to be!

When we arrived they told us that it might be a 15 minute wait. We waited for over 2 hours for our food. We had to get our own cutlery from another table. Several meals were missing ingredients. There was a hair in one of our meals and when we complained they seemed generally confused. We barely heard an apology. The food was bland and the service was appalling. This is the worst dining experience I've ever had. Would not recommend. Another group also told us they had not received their food either after a long wait.

Amazing vegan meals with an Asian influence. Try the rawsagna! Also make sure you don't skip dessert--there are decadent cakes and hot drinks (including matcha lattes). Imo this is Vegie Bar without the crowds and with more manageable portion sizes. Highly recommend!!

The place was dead, no music or ambience. Entrees we got were ok but the mains were just bad, my partner and I actually felt nauseous trying to get through our meals. Food all came out at different times. My burger was cold and the bun was soggy. Everyone on the table who got soy beef in their meals thought is was disgusting. Despite the place being near empty my partner had to remind the waitstaff about her drink order. Hope this place does some work sorting out these issues I've heard good things about it awhile ago but seems to have really declined.

This place used to be amazing but appears to have changed ownership? So disappointed with our recent visit which was a birthday dinner for my son who chose this location based on previous visits. No music, lack of care in terms of decor and appearance. Took a while to be served by lethargic staff. Serving sizes were decent. Nachos were great, I have to say. Burger was very plain and ordinary for the price! We ordered dessert, and after a while we were told one of them were unavailable (the restaurant was mostly empty, so not sure what was taking so long). We got the sticky date pudding instead, which was served directly from the fridge and onto a plate. Nothing else. For $9, it was more like a very dry and hard muffin. It was inedible (kids ate half of it to be polite!). Told the staff they need to warm it up or something, but we were told they don't warm it up. I appreciate this is a family business, but it's really not appropriate to have a small child coming in and out of the kitchen and running about the dining room with a pram. I really hope things improve, as the concept of this restaurant was so great, but we won't be coming back anytime soon.

When this place is good it is really something, but incredibly hit and miss. The last 3 times I have been I have been served the blandest most tasteless food. Absolutely no flavour. You might get lucky though, as on a good night their Pho is one of the best!

One of my favourite restaurants to visit when I'm in the area. The nachos are an all time favourite and the carrot cake is beautiful. Also the variety and wide range of the menu is incredible!

  • 2/5 Sophie T. 2 years ago on Google
Came here after reading reviews online. Seems that this place might have changed hands from what recent ones are are saying and this was reflected tonight. The food was ok, large portions, but lacking the flair, flavour and freshness that earlier reviews boast. The ambience was non existent. I wouldn't bother with dessert unless you want a dense cold cupcake that is just average at best. Sadly many better options on the strip.

I've loved this place for a long time. The food is always fresh and satisfying, and the staff are lovely. However, the online ordering/take away experience has been very frustrating. I've tried to order take away a few times and experienced long exceptionally wait times (well over an hour and a half) or food just not arriving.

Five years ago I would have given Yong Green five stars, but my most recent visit left a lot to desire. Firstly, the extremely slow service and lack of attentiveness. It took almost 20 mins before someone came to our table when we first arrived, to ask what we wanted to drink / order. Then we waited over an hour for the our food to arrive, with one dish arriving later than the other. The food, was pretty average. I wouldn't say it was anything special. The tofu katsu just tasted like a hungry jacks whopper on a bed of colesaw.

Yet another family gathering at this wonderful eatery - for clean, green, delicious vegetarian goodness, you can't go past Yong Green Food in Brunswick Street, Fitzroy. Fantastic options for vegans and those with dietary restrictions too. This photo is not staged - it's just a quick look at a half-eaten meal - the presentation was much more beautiful than this, but with all the veggie goodness, our diners didn't want to wait while stylish photos were taken!

The 2 stars is for the excellent service. Was a fan before when the food used to be a culinary experience, but tonight has really changed our mind. The food was flavourless and the veggies seemed less fresh, also the accompanying dips were indistinguishable from each other. Unfortunately I don't think we will be back. The staff were so nice though and understood our concerns, they explained they have new kitchen staff and even offered us a free drink... for next time

  • 3/5 Dr Saima S. 4 years ago on Google
Most of the dishes are Soy based and can have MSG containing sauces so could be good for those who like and can tolerate . More concerning was the service. After a girl who received me and explained the menu, no one attended to take order for nearly 15 minutes. Food was served without cutlery for another 5 minutes.

Visited the place this last month with my friend because of all the excellent reviews it got. The restaurant looks very plain from the outside. I walked past it first because there were not many signs. You walk into a narrow alley when you enter which is bit weird. The place where you eat is alright though. I ordered the Kimchi Dragonball and my friend some curry with eggplant. The curry was a pure disappointment, you even could not taste the eggplant because they put so much curry in it that you were unable to taste anything else than that. Besides, I heard many people on the neighboring tables expressing their disappointment or leaving behind almost uneaten meals. It seems to be a hit and miss here with the meals. My Kimchi Dragonball was quite tasty though. BUT not even 1 hour later I got terrible stomach problems from it which forced me to go home and finish my night out more early than planned. And I hardly have stomach issues even when eating street food in developing countries. Wonโ€™t come back for sure.
