Great value vegan/vegetarian food. Left very full after eating my huge portion of the nutritious, hearty food they have on offer! Service was very friendly and genuinely welcoming to every guest.

A long time cornerstone of the Melbourne vegetarian and vegan dining scene. Recent menu changes deliver very good value for money, with consistently high quality food.

The staff at Crossways are particularly friendly and accommodating and service is very fast. You can purchase take away or you can eat there and consume as many servings of main course, dessert & beverages as you desire for just $9.50 (or $7.50 if you have a concession card) regardless. The Hare Krishna food meets various food groups & dietary requirements/preferences, making it accessible and healthy to various individuals. The main course and some deserts are vegan and overall, the menu is vegetarian. The curries are generally mildly spicy and flavoursome and there are a great deal of vegetables and very often some tofu and legumes. The menu includes rice, papadums 2 curries, fruit halava, orange cordial, lassi & water. There is a set menu for every day of the week. I am personally very glad that Crossways has re-opened and I believe the food is delicious and a good staple. I pay Crossways a visit on most days I’m in the city and it is my favourite restaurant of all time! I would recommend Crossways, particularly for people who like curries, have specific dietary preferences &/ have large appetites.

The entrance to Gopals is on Swanson street up 2 flight of stairs. Good choice of freshly made food offered in Bain Marie warmer cabinet. There were 6 dishes on the menu when I was there. Including a beautiful dessert. Also 4 or 5 salad options. Very warm friendly people serving. Bain Marie s continually being topped up with freshly cooked food. Huge serves, very reasonably priced and very yummy.

Just outstanding vegetarian and vegan food. We loved the amazing flavors and taste sensations of all dishes tried. Excellent value for money, rotated menus and caring friendly staff that added to the experience. Will definatly visit again. Recommended vegetarian restaurant that will not disappoint.

Simple, healthy food. Giving it three stars as the presentation of food in the hot boxes wasn’t all that appealing, there wasn’t much to left to choose from from the menu and we were there at about 6:30/7pm. The cleanliness of the tables was questionable. Maybe they were short staffed the evening I went.

Great value for money and a predominantly vegan menu. A while back they upgraded their menu and I have been really impressed with everything I have tried. Big plate with salads, curries/mains + drink + dessert for $12!!!

Taste: 5/5 Portions: large Price: $ $11.95 for the vegan platter is an amazing price for the large servings and tasty food. The juice was pretty plain and sweet but other than that, the food was amazing. Would definitely recommend for any vegans/vegetarians.

Best place to have a good and satisfying vegetarian/ vegan meal. The prices are low and the quantity served is generous. The place serves Indian cuisine, some western dishes, desserts, and natural smoothies/juices. The place is not too plush but is popular amongst vegetarians. The place is clean and hygienic. The staff is polite and helpful.

Absolutely amazing soul food. Cannot fault this place. The 2 curries I had were very tasty, not hot. Incredible value for $10. Will be taking my family here. Can't wait to share the experience.

healthy, quick and filling vegan food in the city. the restuarant is also somewhat quiet. im assuming its because people only come in to have a quick meal and leave. the food was good for the price ($10 for just the food). i personally don’t like their dessert or drink options tho, and the food is already rlly filling by itself.

Such a cosy and cute restaurant overlooking Swanston St. So many delicious veggie options at great prices. I find myself coming back here every year and bringing different friends and family along who also enjoy it.

Great place, I love eating here! The 2 veg and 2 salad combination does wonders if you’ve been having a struggling digestive system. I’d give 5 stars if they offered plain yoghurt as well. Under $10 is also generally good value for money- I don’t think you can find that at any other sit down place.

Used to be great, but quality has dropped. Girl behind the counter was nonchalant, slapped food on the plates and generally displayed zero love/enthusiasm. The rice tasted dry/stale, the lemon water was so sweet we couldn’t drink it, the soup was very average, none of the curries had much taste and the sprouts and green leaves in the salads tasted old. There was only one dessert option - date and semolina, and it was awful. No tea option. The guy clearing the plates started before we had finished eating. Saved by the location and price.

Dirty glasses and cutlery. Food looks good but glasses smell like they have been wiped over with dirty dish cloth. Spoons had food matter on them.

Simple and delicious food. Totally vegetarian with (no garlic and onions too!). Low price but good portions, I ordered the feast plate costing $11.95 which included brown rice, two curries (vegetable kofta and black tofu curry), two salads (pasta and beetroot), lentil soup, dessert (semolina, I didn't have it though) and drink (mango lassi). Very satisfying food and ample space with a calm vive to it. A must visit again!

Ethical, No meat. Vegan options. Delicious. Super fresh tasty salads to accompany meal. Generous portions. Low cost. Peaceful, low key atmosphere above street level with seats at windows. Friendly staff. No frills. Been a fan for decades now.

Great place in the heart of the city to unwind and relax to a very "Hare Krishna" type vibe. A little sanctuary in the city that provides wholesome vegetarian and vegan nourishment. The food is very fairly priced and very yummy. A popular place for lunch so be sure to get there early. Thanks to Gopals and the team for creating such a wonderful safe haven in the bustling city. Love it !

I always walked pass this vegan restaurant but never tried it until my friend asked me to go there. They offer a set meal with rice and/roti with few options of dishes of your choice and a dessert and a drink. You can have different sets with different prices too. The serving is generous and the foods are quite good. Well come back again to try different sets next time.

Abosuletly blown away!!! I went there to ate with my mother and you wouldnt believe that gopals offer food that is divinely tasty and healthy. The food isnt oily, salty, sweet and too heavily spiced. Also Its insane because I was hesitating to get the vegan dessert as I lost my sweet tooth a long time ago but did it anyway and I will never turn back! As the desert were mildly sweet but not overly sweet like you would find in most stores that sell cakes and pastries and they arent even as pricey as those you would find outside. It isnt even sweet for my mother who is diabetic. Gopals will and always be our comfort store to patronised in for our vegan diet.

One of the best place for vegetarians and vegans. The place has range of things to offer from snacks to dessert. The prices here are a bit cheaper compared to other vegan places in Melbourne. However, quality of food is not compromised. Tried vegan mixed berries cheese cake and it was really good.

50c per takeaway container is a bit over the top, the drink size is a bit too small and food was good but a bit watery across most. The dessert is out of this world though and the food is well worth trying!

Great food and fabulous price right in the middle of the city. Staff very friendly. Not an accessible venue as up a steep set of stairs. We went as a group of three and happy for us to sit and chat even though it was pretty busy. Solid value for money.

Delicious vegetarian and vegan food at amazing prices. Nothing fancy but friendly staff and a variety of à la carte or meal options. The vegetable dishes were flavorful, and the salads were fresh. The line varied between 3-4 people to 12, but service is fast. Cards and cash accepted.

I have been coming to Gopals my entire life, even when I was in my mums belly! So this place holds a very sentimental place in my heart. But not only that, I still come here regularly all these decades later. The food is always hearty & delicious, with incredibly great value huge portions. The staff are always lovely, you can tell the food is really made and served with love and care. Nothing beats getting a seat at the window to people watch and witness the changing of seasons along Swanston St. Highly recommend 🥰

True hidden gem of Melbourne with a wonderful array of vegan and vegetarian food, all very reasonably priced. You could tell everyone was happy to be there, both customers and employees. That and nice big windows with a view over the street create a good vibe. Loved the customizable vegan platter, and don't think I could have gone wrong no matter what curries or salads I chose; all looked delicious.

Have come here a couple of times with vegan friends, not a vegan/vegetarian myself. Really appreciate the simplicity and quality of the food. Lots of healthy legume based dishes, much better than western 'vegan' fare full of soy.

My favourite restaurant in all of Melbourne, I felt like I was stealing, that’s how cheap the food is. Such delicious flavours, especially the kofta. Service was amazing, the waitress was really nice to us and gave us recommendations as we were new comers. Highly recommend.

I've been going to Gopals since the 1980's. It has been consistently great value over all these years. The set menu give you a main dish, salad, sweets and a drink. It's a good, balanced meal. I would say that 35 years of patronage tells you that I absolutely love this place.

If you want honest, tasty, well-prepared, fresh, interesting and extremely affordable Indian vegetarian food in Melbourne, this is the place to go! We discovered it upstairs in Swanston Street and were blown away by the quality and value of the food offered. The samosas are to die for, as well as the vegetable croquettes. The vegetable curries are delicious. The salads are fresh and plentiful. The food portions are very generous. There is also a dessert option. They also provide a fresh lemon juice drink. Honesty, it you lived in Melbourne and wanted a healthy, and inexpensive daily option for your diet, this would be it! Amazing value, lovely people and a comfortable setting and ambience. Highly recommended.

One of the best value meals in Melbourne. A range of curries, salads and some desserts. Koftas are great. Set up cafeteria style with your choices being plated for you. Customers choose their own seats. Pleasant view from windows overlooking Swanson street. Be aware that you need to climb a fairly steep staircase to the second floor.

Vegan and vegetarian buffet style restaurant located on Swanston just opposite the Town Hall. For between $10 and $13, you can get a large mixed plate of salads, curries, soup and dessert. Single dishes also available. While it is not fine dining, it is pretty tasty and friendly. They accept card. Gopals is a central location for a quick, cheap and wholesome meal.
