PLEASE DO NOT GO!!!! My partner and I went to this embarrassment of a "Teppanyaki" restaurant for our 1 year anniversary. We were hoping to have a great experience, one to remember and cherish for a long time. We will have memories, but not a single memory for our benefit... To start off, my partner specifically quoted to the receptionist that it was our one year anniversary. That was an afterthought, we walk in to the restaurant not even knowing it was the correct venue. From the moment we arrived, disappointment is an understatement. With inexperienced staff awaiting us to our seats, we were sat with another couple discussing whether we were at the correct place. The prices of the food for what we received was laughable, a garden salad consisted of some lettuce with a chunk of tomato and a single slice of cucumber, to continue with this disgrace of a salad, it was somehow warm. The chef walks in to cook our food, could not stop hitting on my partner and leaving her shocked and uncomfortable, dirty words and slurs that made her feel far beyond uncomfortable and upset. To add to this, anytime I said a word or tried to converse with my partner I was instantly told "SHUT UP!" by the chef. The chef started cooking the food, to continue with this utter disappointment, the food was subpar. Only eating it as we did not want to waste it. The worst part of the night begins... The chef continuing to tell me to shut up, I was then squirted with some oil on my brand new shirt, that was meant to be on the food I assume. The chef continued laughing as the stain continued to go red on my brand new shirt. We then were sat to another room for our desserts. Moving us out of the way for new customers to have the same disappointing experience that we had just received. We had to wait 15 minutes for a single bowl of ice cream for our dessert and request for our green tea to arrive to our table as it was on the set menu. We head to reception to pay for our meals (wishing we had just walked out) I notified who I thought was the owner of the restaurant about my stain and she was holding back laughter. She requested dry cleaning the shirt and that we would be reimbursed for dry cleaning, this should not be the case as we should not have to look after another mans wrongdoing. I was reimbursed with a laughable $6.70 that did not even cover the cost of Napisan from the supermarket. My partner tried her best to recover the damaged shirt all last night and this morning, it is now ruined due to the unknown substance that was on my shirt (that the owner could not identify). We went out of our way to have dinner at this restaurant as we live 1 hour and 40 minutes from the restaurant, we do not have time to take it to dry cleaners as we both work full time and have very busy lifestyles. Our one time to get away to hopefully do something special was ruined. Please reconsider when booking a reservation to this disappointing restaurant, a lot of my friends and family are looking for a great teppanyaki experience and I will be going out of my way to steer them away from here. I will be calling later to discuss a full refund and also to discuss what can be done about my $150 shirt. Please look elsewhere...

We had such a fun, laughter-filled dining experience here last night! Our assigned chef was amazing and hilarious! He delivered both great jokes and great food! 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼 The meats here tasted AMAZING! The beef and chicken melted in my mouth, yum… I especially recommend ordering the wagyu set. The portion sizes were really big too, so definitely value for money! I couldn’t finish my food, but they let me take the leftovers home. I’m excited to have it for lunch tomorrow! One advice is not to wear something you won’t want stained, because the chef will throw food at you (you will have to try to catch it with your mouth 🤭). I highly recommend dining here! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Noo shot Bucko. Went to this place with my son and missus, we all couldn't be more shocked with the service. We found a hair in our sushi we ordered, and when we told the waitress, we were told "It was our hair", yea nooooo shot, Das Cap on a stack. To anyone else who is considering going here, please reconsider your options 😊 As 50 metres down the road, there is the Japanese restaurant "Okami" which i'll definely be going back to once lockdown ends!!

This was my first teppanyaki experience and I’m really glad I came here. The staff treated us like family and we received the best customer service experience I’ve had in a long time. The food was top quality and super fresh. I strongly urge you try the wagyu beef. It was the best beef I’ve ever eaten, incredible marbling and perfectly seasoned and cooked to our specification. Thank you for an amazing anniversary dinner! Can’t wait to come back!

A Memorable Evening at Ichiban Japanese Restaurant! My family and I recently had the pleasure of dining at Ichiban, and it was an experience we will cherish forever. From the moment we stepped through the door until the final goodbye, everything about our visit was absolutely fantastic. The staff deserves special commendation. They were warm, welcoming, and incredibly attentive throughout our dining experience. Thank you to the entire team at for making our evening truly special!

We ordered two Imperial sets, two Ichiban special sets, and two children's sets. Total 6set. But we didn't get anyone an appetizer, didn't ask for Japanese tea, and didn't get it until the end. Also, there are steaks on the children's menu, but they didn't receive them, and Lamb came out only as adults. It took a very long time for the food to come out.

Fantastic food, look and feel. The staff were amazing and polite. Had also created a safe social distancing space without losing any of the restaurant vibe. The owner even came out and had a chat 😁

Absolutely fantastic experience! Not only was the food delicious but it was a fun evening with the friendly chefs cooking in front of us and playing games. The service was excellent and we were even given a rose at the end of the night to give to our partners on Valentines day. 10/10 would definitely recommend if you are looking for an exciting dining experience!

Exceptional ... !!!! We have always wanted to take our kids to one of these restaurants, it was Aaaaamazing ... the kids loved the friendly hospitality, talented chef who cooked and engaged with us as a family. The quality of the food was the best we have ever had, my wife and I having gone to 3 other similar places over mamy years. We drive about an hour to get here, but I had heard from friends that the staff and experience here is so much more amazing than anywhere else.

Ichiban has delivered an exceptional experience! Michael, the talented chef, dazzled us with his culinary expertise and entertaining tricks while cooking. It was a delight to watch him perform while preparing the delicious meal. He surprised me with a creative fried rice ‘birthday cake’ and had the whole restaurant start singing ‘Happy Birthday,’ making the celebration truly memorable. Monique, our wonderful waitress, added sparklers to my dessert, adding an extra spark to the evening. This place offers not just amazing food but an incredible atmosphere. Can’t wait to return and share this experience with friends and family!

We previously went to Kobe around the corner which was much better. I would still recommend this restaurant as it is lot cheaper than other Teppanyaki places and has an authentic feel. Staff are very friendly. However, the food was a real let down. I didn’t find it very tasty. Kebabs served as entree were very tough. And the main meals did not have much flavour compared to other places. I would still take my family there as it was a very friendly atmosphere but if your looking for top class meals, I wouldn’t recommend.

This is hands down the best teppanyaki experience I have ever had because of Chef Hang! I have never tasted such delicious food - Hang cooked all the food to perfection and went to the effort of creating different sauces for each meat which really made all the difference! He was so down to earth, personable, friendly and went to great lengths to ensure he provided excellent customer service. This truly exceeded my expectations and my parents and I had a wonderful time. I hope to return again soon and will definitely request Hang when I do!

Hang was absolutely amazing! We had a fantastic evening out with a group of friends and 5 children. Hang had us sit at one end so the kids could have their own special evening whilst the parents relaxed and conversed at the other. The food was beautiful, Hang would have you try the food before adding his sauces, the flavours afterwards were extraordinary. A thoroughly enjoyable evening was had by all. Best experience ever!!!

What a beautiful experience dinning at ichiban Japanese restaurant! We were look after by the staff very well and on top our teppanyaki chef Jim is so entertaining. Making sure we are eating with the right pace and yet look after us like King and Queen. Chef Jim’s cooking is excellent. He cooked the food to perfection and every dish is tasty and wow! While cooking he make sure he get to know us and he remembers our name after 5 min. Wow. Impressive! If you have a celebration or just want some fun while enjoy great food, give them a try at Ichiban! The experiences we have is definitely ICHIBAN!! We are also very lucky to be look after by the owner of the Restaurant, Kim. Thank you and we will be back and definitely wants Jim to be the chef again!! ❤️

Christmas dinner. Food quality is good but very salty. The same price you paid you will have much better value in the city and else where. It is very over priced.

The Teppanyaki set came with a splendid performance. Fire show was unexpected but good to watch. Get your camera ready. Our chef was rather deft with his knives twirling show. The large prawn and scallop was impressive. The beef, chicken, fried rice, Miso soup and sashimi were delicious also. Plenty of parking. Good value with Groupon deal.

Had a very enjoyable Teppanyaki birthday dinner. Very few teppanyaki restaurants these days still provide an entertaining chef’s demonstration and games and the restaurant did not disappoint, kids loved the experience and actually enjoyed their food more than usual, with no phones required to keep them entertained during a long very tasty dinner. Don’t let the dated building facade deter you, this place thrives on word of mouth alone. Don’t expect a pompous Nobu-like experience either, the food is fresh, honest and sumptuous. We were very full at the end. Staff were attentive and efficient. Highly recommended if you are after a good night out in the eastern suburbs and don’t want to trek into the city. Will come back.

Really lovely Teppenyaki experience. We almost turned around to drive home in the car park as there is an old part of the building that they have closed. But if you drive around the corner there it is open. Lucky we did as it was a fabulous experience. Really lovely staff. Food was delicious. Highly recommend.

WASTED EFFORT TO GO HERE. TOTAL LET-DOWN. Given a Scoopon voucher as a gift for my husband's birthday. He rang them & explained there would be 3 of us as he had been ill & can't eat much. Took our son to share with me. Husband ordered a miso soup & squid. We were early for our booking but were told they had to start straightaway. Told by woman who greeted us we should have notified them there would be 3. Said she would have to add an extra chair! Told her we had rung. Only 3 at our table. Chef had basically no inter-action with us, no conversation, sauces not explained. Entree...very over-cooked chicken-age. 2 prawns as part of our Tokya set menu. The squid was so chewy it was not enjoyable. Fish (two little thin bits) & chicken cooked at same time as squid & prawns. Then vegies then beef (not asked how we would like it)..olnly just passab le...rice. Had to go to "lounge" for dessert...carpet very dirty & not vacuumed. Two other tables of customers. There was so much smoke our eyes were watering. Mentioned to waittress...oh yes, overdue for service but think they are all on holidays. 5th January 2022 (a Wednesday)...obviously no smoke alarms connected either. Should have know by over-grown, dismal entry. Totally disgraceful. Supposed to get choice of dessert...ice-cream or banana fritter. Given two small bowls of ice-cream. Asked for banana fritter. Told would have to check supplies. Eventually got one serve & charged $8 for it. Lack-lustre staff, below average food, uncared for venue inside & out. Went there some years ago & it was great back then. Now it deserves to be shut down as it gives Japanese Teppanyaki restaurants a bad name. Thank God we didn't pay full price as we were totally rushed and unimpressed. Won't both going back & driving nearly an hour for mediocrity. Could have cooked better at home.

Quite pricey compared with top notch venues for example on the Gold Coast. Delicious food, but the venue itself was dated, the floors were sticky and the Chefs theatrics were only mildly entertaining. Hiding behind a mask, he basically cooked in front of us, and we threw some bowls around. No tricks. For what we paid, one free tempura ice cream would have been a nice touch for my wife's birthday but they charged top dollar for that too. Honestly, Rockpool at Crown would have been better value. 3 stars because the food was tasty despite a bill over $300.

NEVER GO HERE! If you're looking for a revolting experience this is the place to go, there are maggots falling from the heating system on to the bench where we were due to eat! In all honesty this was without doubt THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! Very unsettling & disappointing, we ended up leaving even before the food arrived, truly shocking!

Came here to celebrate my partner graduating as a paramedic. The second we walked in the door we were greeted with a huge congratulations to her from everyone. They made the night really special by bringing her a sparkler in her ice cream to celebrate, and a congratulations bottle of champagne. The food was absolutely incredible, and the chef had us in tears of laughter. Amazing place to go with incredible food and good laughs. Cannot recommend enough!!

Overpriced. Service not good. Staff not very polite. Food is not fresh or tasty. I don't think the chefs are Japanese either and they don't seems to repect their food. You can have some fun if thats your first Teppanyaki, but definitely not getting tasty food.

When we first pulled up we thought the place was an abandoned restaurant, they really need to tidy up the outside. Dinnerware was old and chipped, and the venue was very dark. The food however could not be faulted. Positively spectacular tastes and texture. The staff were very attentive and friendly. Recommended for a good meal, but not for anything corporate.

Went there for my wedding anniversary this week. The teppanyaki chef was clearly not experienced and made a lot of mistakes. That would be understandable but the concern was that he pretty much did not talk to us or explain anything nor even ask how well we want the beef to be cooked. No fire show for us for some reason so we had to experience it by watching other tables get the full treatment. Went for the experience but didn’t get much. The food was okay nothing really special.

Best memorable teppanyaki experience!! We went there to celebrate my daughter’s bday. Not only we had really tasty and yummy food, but the teppanyaki experience really exceeded our imagination! The lobster was fresh, the prawn, scallop, the wagyu and everything was great. The chef was really good in cooking all of them, not to mention his incredible knife skills and jokes to keep all of us entertained. The chef was very interactive, we got to play throw and catch bowl (with the fried rice in it!), and catching pieces of eggs into our mouth. It is extremely fun. Once the chef finished cooking, he had special bday message using salt (and writing upside down wow!!) Overall, totally extremely recommended!!

Edit: Reverting the review to 5* for the restaurant excellent customer service after a bad feedback was left. I got contacted by management team and they proactively helped me resolved the issue. After a few more weeks I finally got refunded by Groupon. The management team was so kind to even offer me a free meal (which we politely refuse). Thank you so much, I'm so glad to get my money back and to have this matter closed in a satisfying way.

Great experience! Great food. Very friendly staff. Amazingly responsive to customer service and some things were done intuitively without even asking. All the food was fresh and tasty. I don't go out often, but my sons and I decided to splurge, so we came here tonight and WOW, the food was amazing, the service was amazing. We had peace when we were eating, entertainment when we were waiting and service that was perfect. It can be a little on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for. It is WELL worth it. We had the Onigyu and everything was cooked to perfection. The atmosphere was calm and the music was beautiful and peaceful. And to the gentleman who ate all the green tea ice cream, I'll be back. So disappointed in so many ways! Given we required a table for 7, the booking process of leaving credit card details to secure the table was lengthy and painful. I made the booking by phone, was sent a link to confirm (which redirected me to the wrong page), then my booking was cancelled. It took 4 days to confirm if I had a table, as everyone kept telling me they would call back but never did. We ended up having to take a table 30 mins later than we initially booked (not a big deal), but then we arrived and the chef didn’t commence cooking for another 1 hour and 15mins after that. He was also very unengaging. We could hardly even hear his voice. Their only saving grace was the food. It was fresh, delicious and cooked well. Given the overall experience, I would never go back or recommend to anyone else.

We were gifted a voucher for Ichiban Restaurant and it did not disappoint! Service was great and the food was delicious! Our chef did a wonderful job on our meal and the experience itself was really good. Would definitely recommend. We will be back 😊😊

Awesome experience at Ichiban. Although we had a large group (11), we were very well looked after by the team. Service was great from the time we stepped in and was absolutely topped off by our great chef John who was very skilled, entertaining and accomodating to all in the group. Great for kids too, they were definitely involved and felt part of the whole experience. Food was fantastic, the prawns were full of flavour and the chicken and beef very tender and perfectly cooked. Very enjoyable night had by all, will definitely be back.

Definitely fun experience. The interaction with the Chef makes it a worthwhile experience although the food quality and price can be a be better. Staff are also friendly and tentative.

201908 highly recommend chef David if you are itching to go to teppanyaki. He cooks well and listens even better being able to do both in tandem and keeping up with all questions and jokes. Discovered through groupon and still available there!

Food, fun and atmosphere were good; but for some reason they were weird with service. I asked more than 3 times for a 2nd glass of wine during the long set banquet, but they were strangely cagey and odd about it, and never brought it. Something not quite right here…

Not very accomodating for vegetarian customers, even when you book in advance. We booked for a birthday with 4 meat eaters and a vegetarian, during both the booking and confirmation we were ensured that there was a menu of vegetarian sets. However, once arriving we were told they were “too understaffed” and it was “too difficult” to provide the package sets, so the vegetarian had to order off the “add ons” which were individually priced. Not sure why they would accept or confirm the booking if it was “too hard” or why individually ordering each dish was any different other than a higher cost.

Great value for money and the chef was amazingly skilled and communicative as well. We had the meat lovers set and enjoyed all the dishes especially the duck and fried rice! Haven't been able to have a fried rice like this one in quite a while so was very pleased. Make sure to book ahead of time because spots were limited when we made our reservation.

Great experience at Ichiban. My partner and I got the Onigyu Teppanyaki set with lots of different cuts of meat, miso soup, salad, fried rice and some ice cream for dessert. Our chef was amazing, a bit cheeky with giving some of us some easy catches with the bowls and others needing to sit in a chair on the other side of the room. Lots of egg thrown around. Heaps of fun, can't wait to come back again.

My family and I recently celebrated my daughter's 13th birthday at Ichiban Teppanyaki in Doncaster East, and I must say it was an extraordinary experience that deserves a glowing review. We had a party of 16, including seven lively kids ranging from 9 to 15 years old. The restaurant had two grill plates, each expertly manned by a talented chef. The kids were seated at one end, while the adults occupied the other. The children's chef was a true entertainer, infusing laughter and joy into the atmosphere. He engaged our kids with a delightful performance, juggling food in the air for them to catch and showcasing impressive bowl-throwing skills. His humor and charisma had the kids in stitches, creating an atmosphere of pure fun. The restaurant staff were impressively attentive, adding an extra layer of warmth to the occasion. They went out of their way to make my daughter feel special on her big day. The chefs even incorporated additional tricks during her session, making her feel like the star of the evening. The food was delicious. The teppanyaki experience offered a dedicated menu for kids under 12 at a very reasonable $48, as well as an extensive selection for adults. Each dish was meticulously prepared right before our eyes, from succulent grilled seafood to perfectly cooked steak. The flavors were impeccable, leaving all of us thoroughly satisfied. I genuinely cannot find a single flaw in our experience at Ichiban Teppanyaki. It was the ideal setting for a memorable family birthday celebration. My heartfelt thanks to the entire team at Ichiban Teppanyaki for making my daughter's 13th birthday truly exceptional. We look forward to returning for more delicious meals in the future.

This was our second visit and we will definitely be back! The service was fantastic and our waitress remembered us from our last visit, which is also nice and feels great to be welcomed so warmly. The food was delicious and the chef was also very entertaining. We had a great laugh and a great feed! It was my son’s 10th birthday and the staff gave him special treatment which made his night.

I booked Ichiban for my Mum’s birthday back in November 2023. We had such a great time that as soon as we got in the car my husband (who has never been to Teppanyaki before) said he wanted to come for his birthday. We have just been for the second time. Both times we had such a great night filled with lots of laughs. The food was very tasty, melted in your mouth and we all couldn't pick our favorite dish as we enjoyed it all. Thank you to our chief who was outstanding and making the night so much fun! The rest of the staff were so lovely, friendly, and provided great service. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone, and we will be back.
