After a few weeks in Japan, I was dying for a good curry. And the ‘burbs’ can pull it off with a traditional Thai meal that satiated my yearning. We came for a celebration on a Friday night with no booking and the lovely staff managed to get us a table for 5. Sontaya is located at the top of the shopping centre in Eltham and with full patronage on the night, it has a popular following. We ordered an array of dishes such as roti, satay skewers, chicken and cashew curry, coconut rice and more. The portion sizes were good and the rice was perfectly light and fluffy. The staff were helpful and patient as we ordered plenty of food. The restaurant is BYO but you can also order wine as well. Note: Wheelchair accessible. Kid friendly. Good parking nearby. I usually consider Thai Sontaya a solid 5/5 but this was the first experience I was disappointed. The sauces were all really watery and the prawns did not taste fresh. We also ordered the pad Thai without bean shoots due to dietaries and they forgot (but did remake the dish relatively swiftly). No doubt we will be back because of the convenience factor so it will be interesting to see if it’s a one off Current Back for dads birthday as once again where we would usually celebrate has not yet reopened post the latest lockdown. On this occasion service was rapid in stark contrast to our last experience. Food was exceptionally delicious as always. The satay sauce here is pretty much second to none. Hence the chicken satay dish and roti with satay sauce are a must have Latest We returned for my dads birthday tonight as the venue we typically visit for said event is sadly closed due to covid. Service was incredibly slow perhaps due to reduced staff and the excessive number of takeaway orders which was quite irritating but the food however was once again very well done. We stuck with our regulars today but also added the green curry as the birthday boy wanted to try something different, definitely recommend everything we had. Further update We visited Thai Sontaya tonight after a series of events resulted in a cancelled dinner at home. The Penang curry on this occasion was absolute perfection I could literally just drink the sauce. Seems to be a place I enjoy more and more with each visit. Look forward to the next one Update After the resounding success of our previous visit we headed to Sontaya again last night for a family birthday. We stuck with tried and true favourites but this time also added the massamum curry which was a splendid discovery. Knowing how much we’d enjoyed the other dishes previously I’d questioned whether we should bother with the massmum but it was my stand out dish of the night.

Used to work here before, i can tell ya’ll first hand that the food here is amazing. A lot of process and thoughts are put into their food, and honestly just the best thai food you can get in the area. They also serve free and delicious prawn crackers! Their Green curry is a must try and is my personal favourite.

Tried Thai Sontaya for the first time tonight and was very happy with our choice. I had the green curry with beef and my partner the oyster beef stir fry. We also had side of roti bread and chicken skewers. Everything was absolutely delicious and we will definitely be ordering again from them. Great work!!!!

Ordered a vegetarian soup, which arrived full of chicken. This order was sent back and replaced with the vegetarian option. Unfortunately, there was chicken again in the dish. Rather than making the correct vegetarian Thai soup, they had filtered out the chicken, and rehashed the meal as ‘vegetarian’. Will never purchase a meal from this restaurant again. Try the Thai on Main Road - it’s excellent.

Came in last-night & ordered 2 of the vegan options. So impressed. The food was amazing and great service by friendly staff. Thank you for a great night.

Our go to for Thai takeaway. Not going there expecting super authentic Thai food, but it is a convenient and consistent option for Asian food in Eltham.

Tom Yum Soup - Lots of fresh veggies, the flavour and consistency of the soup were perfect, it was ready when I went to pick it up. Service was polite and friendly! Ticks every box! My new favourite Thai take away! 😍

Great priced and unpretentious restaurant with tasty food. Have eaten here at least a dozen times and have never been disappointed. Last week we invited two other couples here for dinner and they all couldn’t believe the quality and price of the food.

Food was good but service terrible. Only customers there but still had to call waiter for service every time. (Menus, drinks, water etc) Also got the order wrong. Quite disappointed.

I have been to most of the Thai restaurants in the area and this remains my favorite. Not a flashy place, but the Green Curry there is the best I've had in the area. Funnily I mentioned I like Thai to a friend and they too love this place.

Good food, strange staff. We ordered entrees and mains, and got everything together. Waitress even struggled with our drink order.

Didn't deliver order, 2.5 hours waiting. Eventually said to call menu log for a refund but menu log phone lines unavailable. Complete waste of time and money.

Delightful service, warm and cosy atmosphere, and some of the best Thai food I’ve ever had. To top it off we were pleasantly surprised when the bill came. What a gem!

We ordered take away and rang to give feedback about our meal. Normally our meals have been ok from here however not this evening. We were not asking for our money back or expecting anything . Offering our feedback so next time we order from them it doesn’t occur again.Unfortunately they were more interested in arguing with us instead of finding a solution. We weren’t interested in an argument. Ineffective communication. Poor customer service.
