Ah, what has Covid done to Upali's. I believe like many other restaurants, Upali's has also been hit by the impact of lockdown. I have visited them pre-Covid and the restaurant used to be full. The food used to be great, authentic Sri Lankan, and the warmth of hospitality high. Today, on a Sunday, I found the restaurant empty and the spirits low. Waiting staff were mechanical. Food was bland. We ordered from the set menu and they had run out of the jackfruit curry. It seemed that they had run of the jackfruit altogether. Well, shipments aren't arriving so that's understandable. The alternative was potato, which seemed like was done in a hurry. Most dishes were dry. The roti was chewy. Kotturoti was ok, but it missed the 'wow' and 'umm' that it used to invoke. I wish them best of luck, and I hope they and the hospitality industry recover from the Covid downturn. I'll try Upali's again in few months.

Coming from a background as a chef and a critic who worked at different Restaurants such as Araliya, Attica and Vue De Monde I had such a disappointing experience at Upali's. I took some friends for a treat tonight 10/7/21 there and ordered 2 Gin n Tonic 2 Pina Coladas to start with. They did not serve the drinks properly or professionally. Served Pina Coladas with rotten pineapple. So I took the drinks to the lady owner as she was super busy, However until I asked the waiter after 1/2hr what's gonna happen with my drinks, she didn't even acknowledge it or didn't even pay attention to our table or little apology for their bloody mistake. I nearly spent $450 on my order. The food was good I must say as usual credit goes to the chef. The waiting staff can't even take an order properly, bringing dishes which we haven't even ordered, but just thinking of poor waiter we said we will take that home. However very arrogant for the hospitality industry. As a person who dines at many restaurants and went to this place numerous times but this is a disaster. Not planning to go there again. I thought our community and our food can be into different levels but the food is there not the service.

Delicious Sri Lankan food at a reasonable price. Went for Saturday lunch and ordered two set menus (one chicken, one veg) & a chicken cheese rotti with gravy. The set menus were delicious. Have had dined at the restaurant many times before and they never disappoint. Ambiance is good with lots of cricket memorabilia. Only negative today was that we went to the cashier for payment and the owner lady was there but on a call and didn’t even acknowledge us. Didn’t even look at us or nod. We waited for good few minutes before a wait staff saw us and came over to issue the bill. I’d have given a 5 if not for this disappointing end.

Authentic Sri Lankan dishes and cricket themed ambience was the highlight at Upali’s. Love the menu specially the hot butter cuttle fish, tempered egg plant, dhal and fried chill prawns. Wattalappan was amazing. Only thing was that the service was a bit slow. Place has a full bar, kids area, function room upstairs and beer garden. Highly recommended.

Wonderful restaurant with variety of options to chose from. A truly authentic Sri Lankan cuisine. My favourite dish is the goat and chicken sizzler. The vegetarian options are very limited and my wife found it difficult. The string hoppers and puttu are not always available which makes it even more difficult.

First of all, its full marks for the service. The place is very welcoming, the staff is friendly and helpful and the ambience is very cosy and superb especially if you are a cricket lover. Plenty of cricket memorabilia and collectibles on display. Coming to the food, we started with the palm toddy which is actually available in Sri Lankan shops in australia (we discovered that later). Anyway the drink was worth a try. However there was another $19 a glass mocktail which was hugely underwhelming and disappointing. Falooda was also just a very distant version and iced tea and bitters are commonly available market brands served at a premium price. Would suggest to stick with authentic sri lankan drinks if available. The food was decent. Pepper pork was good. Devilled chicken came out excellent. Goat curry was rightly spiced, however was extremely salty. Meat sizzlers were also ok. Rotis were also good. Over all apart from the goat curry, the food was decent and tasted different and was filling. Overall, it was a good experience, the food experience was a bit underwhelming given the premium level prices.

Food was delicious however the wait was ridiculous, we waited 45-50min for our food and this wasn’t the first time we had to wait so long 2/3 times I have come here the wait has been easily 30min+ Apart from the atmosphere is nice, staff are nice and food yummy, we got kothu and hoppers 🤤

Upali 's have the best Sri Lankan food this part of town. They have never let us down with their food orders for some of our events. Food is quality and good value for money. Highly recommend them.

First time trying Sri Lankan food so we where not too sure what to expect. The menu is overwhelming for someone who doesn't know the cuisine and nothing was explained well on the menu (no translation of what specific sri lankan words are/what the ingredients are) Unfortunately, everything was a little too spicy; wish we could have been warned or given the option of less spice in all the dishes. Service was quick of drinks and entree but slow for main.

All our friends rave about this place. Fantastic Sri Lankan restaurant serving a wonderful array of dishes with authentic, irresistible flavours & textures. Friendly, helpful service, really pleasant, comfortable, casual atmosphere & excellent value for money (we often ask for 'mild' versions of dishes, which management happily helps us with).

Authentic , freshly made Sri Lankan food in Glen Waverly, Melbourne. Enjoyed the stringhoppers with kiri hodi and coconut sambol. The curd and treacle was the highlight of my meal - super smooth curd! Not very sure about the customer service as we didn’t have much of it , but had a good reception the first time I walked in, which made me recommend this place to my friend who just moved into the neighbourhood.

Lovely gem tucked away in a suburban shopping strip. You can smell the flavours a soon as you walk in. Great food, full of flavour and mild/ moderate spices. Good portions. Friendly staff and easy service times.

Such a great Sri Lankan restaurant. Apparently they all authentic, according to my host who bought me dinner. I especially love the dry pork curry. I got their business card and will definitely go back there.

Went to Upali’s Saturday for belated Father’s Day dinner. The food was very tasty and kept informed how long the hoppers would be. We all had a great night and would definitely go back.

This restaurant is located on the street with parking right in front. There is plenty of seating inside, with small seating outside. At 2:30pm on Wednesday, there were only a few customers in the store so no waiting time. Walking in, we were greeted by a male worker who wasn’t very welcoming, but later was friendly. We were given cold water instantly without asking which was good. We were served by a young waiter who was very friendly and helpful that took The ginger tea and falooda were also served quickly and had great flavours that weren’t overpowering. She quickly served hot fish cutlets which were filled with spices, with a mint dipping sauce on a bed of raw leeks and carrots. We ordered tempered eggplant (a type of pickle), Sauteed Cuttlefish, tempered rice, and Dahl lentil curry. All dishes were full of flavour, served quickly and delicious. We ordered rice for left overs for takeaway as we definitely did not want to waste the remaining food. There is extremely clean and nice bathrooms, a bar area, and even an outside dining table. There is plenty of cricket photos, accessories and other special features that make the store unique. A sink is also available to wash hands, which is very useful. The meals were a bit pricy, however, overall it was a great experience and will be back!

If you enjoy Sri Lankan food, the food here is very nice. Don't forget to ask the staff to make it less spicy if you can't handle it. The staff are very friendly. You definitely want to book a reservation, especially if you're going in the evening or on the weekend.

This place gets better at every visit! The food is amazing. Service patchy but their smiles and warm manner makes up for it. Little things like making sure the sink that you wash your hands in should be always clean. The clientele will notice.

Its actually 4.5 stars. Service was good. Food came out quickly. However was missing bit of flavour. Food was good and good value for money but I felt missing some flavour. But it can be my personal experience. Would like to visit again.

This restaurant has so much going for it - great space and ambience, lots of room for large functions, etc. However the food and service let the restaurant down. It took 20 minutes for 1 x beer and 1 x cocktail to arrive. And we were seated 5 steps away from the bar. We ordered the deviled chicken and chicken hot plate. Unfortunately the chicken in both the dishes was dry and overcooked. Thr deviled chicken was full of tiny bones - repeatedly we had to stop eating, spit the bone out and then continue until the next tiny bone appeared. We were never asked for repeat drinks - we gave up trying to get the staff's attention after a while. The water on our table ran out and we kept trying to get the staff to refill it but again gave up. The bartender seemed like he was too cool for the job and was continually trying to correct us when ordering the 1 cocktail when in fact we told him what we saw on the menu. The 2-3 waitresses were scurrying around although the restaurant was not super busy despite being a Friday night. The lighting too could have been turned up slightly - it was hard to see properly. Okay that last one I get they are trying to create a mood and all that. However this business can't seem to decide if they are a bar or a restaurant and seem to be doing both at the same time with what we thought ends up as neither bar nor restaurant. Anyway, don't think I'll be going back here.

We ordered lamb curry and chicken curry .. with rice.. curries was so salty and very spicy, they replaced them but still wasn’t bearable to eat due to the very salty dish. We ordered roti never brought it to the table, I paid $80 for dinner for two people, but we just had stir one serve of fried rice at the end and no curries, they kept apologising us for food, but they didn’t offer anything in return , I had a terrible experience.
