Here's the thing with ALH venues: You've got your good, then you've got the not so good. Thankfully, Young and Jacksons falls into the former. With a variety of dining options, from rooftop bar entertainment to table service restaurant experience, this place has a lot of variety for a night out. We received exceptional service from a waiter who we didn't catch the name of. The fella with the glasses working in the restaurant Friday night, great work my friend! Your service extended beyond your role and was a reflection of good character. We appreciated it! As for the kitchen staff, well done for creating some great food. We definitely got our fair share!

We've always walked past here and always thought it was just a pub but turns out there is nice dining room upstairs. We dined at the Chloe room and had their lunch set menu $35pp which included entree bread, a choice of main and small dessert bite and choice of wine and coffee. Very goood for the price of value and service was very good. Apart from my medium rare steak being too well done everything was good. We also ordered extra entree from their a la carte menu.

Young & Jacksons is in the heart of town. This old world pub is full of history dating back to 1909. Enjoy good quality wholesome food with a drink while looking out the windows of the busy hustle and bustle streets below.

Busy historical hotel. Chicken schnitzel parmigiana and chips were nice but we didn’t enjoy the salads. Easy to find location with a tram stop right out the front. Great place to watch sports in front bar.

This house is a good choice for tea evenings.Flinders station, though not called Central Station, is not only a central station, but also an urban transportation hub to and from the suburbs (and the edge of free tram routes).Flinders Station is Australia's oldest railway station, with bronze domes and dark yellow architectural colours. The bell line at the entrance is also a signature feature, and besides the beauty of the day, the lights at night are not the same.

Great pub that's full of history, offering a spectacular vibe in the heart of Melbourne. Fantastic venue for a nice lunch and beer while watching the time go by in Melbourne.

Grate pub , tram on your doorstep, staff and food good especially the parma's only suggestion a touch dark but it makes a good ambiance. Every time I've been here sport always on.

Great location and there’s a chill vibe dining at the place. However when it comes to service, no cutlery given after serving our food(I’m confused if it’s forgotten or a self-service, but they’ve put a steak knife on the plate but no fork) For food, we ordered a medium-well steak and a mushroom sauce. sauce tastes like a gravy not a mushroom sauce and steak is a little bit chewy.

Great view just infront of the famous Flinders Railway Station, beautiful bar ambiance, lot of space, highly recommend. Its the “the room with a view”😉. The historic significance of Young and Jackson only adds to its charm. The beautifully preserved decor and architectural details evoke a sense of nostalgia, making your visit even more special.

The place is a good venue but lacks more sports sections then one bit downstairs. The food took over 50 minutes to come due to the cricket. Could've hired more staff or put on more staff for this period. I don't know their situation but it could've been handled better.

We went to the roof top bar to find a bar person who was as uninterested as we have come across. We own bars so appreciate how important staff are. We got served with zero engagement. We asked for a cloth to clean our dirty table and the lady came and gave it a cursory wipe without a word. While we drank she read her book behind the bar throughout. When another table left, the table was cleared of glasses and rubbish but food scraps were left and the table not wiped. Back she went to read her book. You guys have a problem. Hope you can sort. Thanks for the reply. It was Thursday night 27 March somewhere around 7.30pm to 8.30pm.

The meals were great, beautifully cooked. Definitely recommend you to try. We only not happy that the promotions red wine was out of stock and we were suggested to have a different pricy wine.

Great pub. A bit pricey but it's prime location and easy to get to. Didn't try the food, just had a cider. Service was friendly and efficient. Was quiet when I was there, but no reason not to return when I visit Melbourne. Good, old style pub that is worth a drink or two if you're passing by.

Located opposite Flinders street station. Nice ambience during evening hours. The drink menu consists of a wide range. Good seating options and quick service. The staff are friendly. Food could be little better compared to prices. Prices are relatively above average.

This review is only for the burger I had. I’d say the burger patty was quite cold. The bar itself is quite nice, specially upstairs with a famous painting hanging on a wall. We went there for a group lunch. Would recommend if you are looking for an office lunch.

A great place for authentic pub food. They have guiness on tap, and the staff know how to poor it. Great environment in one of Australia's oldest and most revered hotels.

Avoid. Plenty of better bars in Melbourne. This pub trades on its location, Chloe and nothing else. It's a crying shame how far this place has fallen under current management. You won't buy more than one drink here, and you'll likely regret doing that. One star is generous.

One of my favourite places to enjoy lunch with friends was so bitterly disappointing today that I may never return. As always the ambience was fabulous during a very busy lunchtime but my set lunch was inedible. My guest ordered the steak which was over cooked and gristly & my fish was so dry I couldn’t swallow it. Thank goodness we had a lovely view of Flinders St Station

With visitors from Sydney and Moulon Rouge at 2pm, we enjoyed a delicious lunch in the dining room. The lunch package was so good, there was plenty of choice & it was great value. The booking staff plus the staff in the dining room today were exceptional. Luke looked our table of six so well & he was friendly and professional. Young & Jackson are indeed fortunate to have Luke on their team!

Great foods and drinks. Great company. Great service. Green Goddess dressing on Grilled Salmon was stunningly delicious!👌Full marks to the Chef!👏👍 Chloe's dining room was beautiful. 🙂 But the noise level was so high we couldn't have proper conversation. Possibly due to large number of large wall mirrors and glass-covered prints. 🙃 For management consideration of noise reduction.

We went in Saturday night with 4 adults and 2 kids. Food was unbelievably good.10 out of 10! Tasty old fashioned pub meals that were fresh and priced quite fair. Beautiful period style architecture made for a nice experience inside, while watching busy Flinders st station .Samantha the waitress was amazing and nothing was too much trouble for her.We will be going regularly for meals based on.our experience!

Definitely must visit this iconic place, situated just opposite flinders street station. The venue has so much to offer with the ground floor being a Pub, First floor is a private dining area and A rooftop bar is a bonus. Went here with few friends on halloween and Loved it. The staff was very Friendly and the bartender suggested some really good drinks. A chilled place to hangout

We had a group booking for 25 people, with a 4 option, 2 course fixed choice menu, plus a glass of red or white wine and a tea or coffee after the meal. All 4 meal variants were enjoyed by those who ordered them and we were allowed plenty of time to mingle after eating. The beer on tap was cold and reasonably priced. I would recommend Y&J's for a group booking, they were great to us!

Great service. Very friendly staff. We booked a tables upstairs for a group dinner before a night out. Gnocchi was delicious. Our friend’s risotto was a little undercooked and it was replaced promptly (she got a complimentary glass of red as well!). Loved the affogato with balish.

27/4/23 Great spot to watch the world go by with some great Flinders Street Station views if you can grab the seats at the window. Perfect place to wait as an option vs outside the Station. Not quite Shinjuku in Tokyo but solid if you're new to Melbourne.

Visiting Melbourne & my 1st time here. The pub itself was great but the food was very disappointing. There were four of us dining & we all ordered the same, home made meat pie with mash potato, peas with battered onion rings & gravy. Sounds good right, well sounding & looking good was as far as it went. Firstly $22 we thought was a bit rich for a meat pie, but oh well, what can you do. The mash & peas👌but omg the pie👎absolutely disgusting. Basically it tasted & looked like mince that had be browned prior to adding seasoning or sauce. Not even adding the watery gravy supplied gave it any taste. A big FAIL. Needless to say the pie was returned & our dissatisfaction was brought to the attention on the manager whose response was 'Oh we're known for our meat pies'.

I used to come here a lot to drink back in the days where I drank too much cuz I didn't know what do do with my life. It was fun...and also not fun at other times, bit mostly due to my own bad choices, lol. Great beer selection in general and nice staff dealing with drunk folks, and it's just a historic place. Rooftop bar is good too, watch the stairs after a few pints though.

The best and definitely most iconic feature of this pub is the naked lady painting on the first floor. She glows in that painting. The model of the painting killed herself out of unrequited love, which I do not condone. But the painting itself is great and very well done. You can sit beside it and gaze out at Flinders Station, which is a beautiful building. While the wine selection here is god-awful (according to my friend who works at a bottleshop), it's a nice place to hang out. You're definitely paying for the character. Downstairs, there's another section of the pub in which three large TVs are set right beside each other, each showing a different sport. The bathrooms are pretty disgusting though, smell-wise.

  • 4/5 Pippin The Stripping C. 4 years ago on Google
Two wheelchair accessible doors to the building and a partially accessible bathroom on the ground floor. All inaccessible ones are gendered, with the women's having stairs to get to. The upstairs dining area is wheelchair accessible, but the bar area is not with tables too high and four steps to the low seats that are actually usable. There is a rooftop bar and smoking area up another flight of stairs, which there is no lift to.

Chloe was the worst Bartender EVER. First she gave attitude with saying, “You’ve got 10 minutes to order”. That’s how we were greeted. So we ordered food first thing. I asked, “Did she have the ingredients to make a certain drink”. I asked if she had whiskey. Yes she answered, I asked if she had simple syrup. Yes, she answered,I asked if she had mint leaves. Yes! She’s like I can’t ring you up because that cocktail is not in the computer. I told her it’s not a cocktail because a cocktail is a mixture of two or more liquors, for this is just one and like the only shot of alcohol is whiskey you can’t charge me individually for a shot of whiskey? She’s like I feel you’re disrespecting me by telling me that. no, I’m just telling you what a cocktail is if you work in a bar. She said with attitude you can go upstairs and order the drink and bring it down here because you can’t bring your food upstairs. I go upstairs. The bar was not open. I come back downstairs to the second bar because Chloe was busy having a personal conversation and couldn’t be bothered with a guest of the bar. I asked the Coworker gentleman behind the bar. Can he make this drink? He said yes I like how according to your coworker she couldn’t because it wasn’t in the register as soon as she found out that I asked the guy that was going to make it a drink for me. She had a conniption fit and she’s like, maybe that’s how you do it in the states but you’re disrespecting me and you need to leave. I said, I think it’s funny how you cannot give what a customer desires, but this gentleman your coworker could. And she’s like that’s not the way we run here in Australia. She got security because she was not happy with the fact that she told me no the first time and I did what she asked and I came back downstairs and I found somebody else who could and then made her look stupid. I told her I was going to write a bad review of her service and she’s like go ahead. I get them all the time and then I said I would take some personal inventory if I were you if you get that many with that attitude of yours. The point is avoid this woman Chloe at all cost. She has major attitude and she has no guest service skills whatsoever.
