Not bad, just nothing special. Came with a group of 7 people and had the chefs menu. Disappointed when the mains came out and we had to share a tiny plate of pork ribs between us all. Considering the starters we were given 2 plates of each, to me it’s ridiculous we had to share a main like that. The mains section was bulked out with big bowls of potatoes and mixed leaf salad. Which to me is super cheap to do and not particularly exciting. We specifically requested the eggplant and received a tiny, thin eggplant that had to again be split amongst a big group. The food was nice, but nothing was like WOW you have to try this dish. It just isn’t somewhere I’d return or particularly recommend.

CREATIVE CUISINE, FRIENDLY STAFF, NICE AMBIANCE Jammed in to the very vibrant restaurant strip along Lygon St in Brunswick (not to be confused with the Lygon St Carlton restaurant strip!) Etta is a gem of a restaurant serving up an Asian inspired modern cuisine in a tastefully renovated dining room that was once a residential building before the massive redevelopment of tis inner city suburb. The whole area is just buzzing with bars and restaurants with those quintessential Melbourne trams trundling up and down the street to and from the city. The dining room is one long area with different zones. We were seated at a raised table (with very comfortable stools) right next to the open kitchen. Despite being fully booked, it wasn't particularly noisy. Wait staff were delightful and attententive. The menu is not huge but has something for everyone. I'd recommend the $75 "let the chef decide for me" option. It's a shared plate affair with an almost "tapas-like" feel. Serving sizes are not large but the quality is excellent. Lots of cocktail choices to start off your evening and the wine list is like a small encyclopaedia. People with mobility issues will be OK as the restaurant is all on one flat level - except for one step up just inside the front entrance. Restroom at the rear is spacious and could accommodate a wheelchair or frame. Parking on Lygon Street and surrounds is horrendous so best to catch a tram or Uber it there!

Mine positive aspects of the services at the restaurant include: 1. Amazing food: The sourdough, kingfish, abalone, chicken, and lamb rib are all highly praised for their delicious flavors and quality. 2. Friendly service: The staff at the restaurant are described as friendly and accommodating, helping the customers to move tables to avoid cold air from the door. 3. Beautiful presentation: The dishes are visually appealing, with the tuna crudo being described as a work of art with its artistic plating. 4. Good variety of options: The menu offers many choices, inspired by different parts of Southeast Asia and China, giving customers plenty of options to choose from. 5. Nice atmosphere: The restaurant is described as a gem in Brunswick East, with a great atmosphere for a nice occasion. Overall, highlight the excellent food quality, friendly service, and enjoyable dining experience at the restaurant. Alex

By far the best meal we had in our trip to Australia! The food here was so simple and balanced while also being genuinely unique. Flavors reminded me a bit of a blend of Southeast Asian and Middle Eastern. Only thing I think they could improve on is the interior design. The tables are a touch small, chairs aren’t as comfortable as they could be, and the dining room could feel more warm. Aside from that, spectacular food and service. Highly, highly recommended!!

🐖 Pork Belly Rib, Kimchi Turnips 🍞 Sourdough, Smoked Butter 🍅 Marinated Heirloom Tomato, Crab Cracker, Thai Basil 🐟 Kingfish, Pink Pomelo, Smoked Roe 🥔 Stracciatella, Burnt Garlic, Shredded Potato Etta in Brunswick East takes inspiration from a cosy living room - to be a warm, welcoming, neighbourly place to enjoy good food. What was once an old fish and chip shop is now a beautiful wine bar, with a menu taking global influences with options for everyone. 🌎 We walked in without a booking were welcomed in with open arms. We were pleasantly surprised by how unpretentious and how great the hospitality was from every single staff member including the chefs. 👩🏽‍🍳 We started with some of their Sourdough, which had a beautifully smokey butter. The Crab Crackers I could only describe as a bit funky, and small in portion. The Kingfish dish was nice but no standout flavours. The Straciettella with Potato served in a way we’ve never had before - shredded into noodles. It was interesting, we enjoyed it. For someone who doesn’t usually enjoy Pork, the Pork Belly Rib was dish of the night. There was so much tender meat which was super charred, almost like a steak. An absolute banger. 👏🏽 At the there was only one meat option for mains (great for veg lovers) so we felt a bit limited. Etta’s creativity and innovation of dishes is definitely admirable, even for those that didn’t quite hit for us. I will return! ⭐️ 3.8/5 (Very Good)

This establishment was by far the highlight of our Melbourne trip when it comes to dining experiences . We jumped into a cab from cbd and upon arriving I started having doubts but boy o boy was I wrong to jump to conclusion. As we entered we were greeted by friendly staff including Maître’d, taken to our table and started the service. Our waitress was from NY and she was excellent. She knew details about food and cooking process.Had all answers to our questions and you could just feel that she believed in this place the way she answered them. I can see how one might feel like you are but too close to other patrons but honestly after we had cocktails and stared with food and wine I forgot about them. We loved every dish they brought to us. Simple as that. From beginning to end every dish simply delivered 100%. For myself the highlight was smashed duck leg and sourdough n brown butter ( I’m a sucker for bread) My partner picked duck and lamb as his favourite. The wine we had was excellent choice as we did order 3 meat dishes with some green on side. Speaking with the Maître d we discovered why these dishes had that extra special and it was due to innovative and well traveled chef. Kudos to you and all your staff. You have a great restaurant that has ticked off all my boxes and beyond. It was a perfect evening and end to our trip and we do hope to find you again for years to come.

Been here twice and the staff are always so attentive and helpful. All the food is so good. We’re yet to have a single bad dish. The menu is made for sharing but if one person wants something alone they can often have half portions. They have some round tables which is always lovely in a group setting. Vegan/vego friendly. Some dishes already accomodating but more can be altered. They substitute things instead of taking away an element and charging the same price. The “feed me” option can be vegan/vego for one person and still omnivorous for other guests. Very accommodating

Modern Australian food with influences of Asian flavours throughout the menu. The food is delicious with a mix of various vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. The entrees are single serves, small delicate dishes with intricate flavours. The larger dishes are to share between 2 people. The service is great and the drinks menu is simply superb. The cocktail menu could be expanded as it lacks the same detail and depth as the wider drinks menu. Overall worth a visit!

Amazing food! Would recommend trying if you’re considering it. We got the set menu at the back function room. There was a mix of individual pieces and sharing plates but the portions were generous and there was more than enough food for our party. Everything we ate was tasty and I loved the Malaysian influences.

The menu had many options that called out to me, always a good thing. I enjoyed all the dishes except for the tart. Each dish may be inspired by different parts of SEA and China.

This place does Asian-fusion food to perfection matched with a great selection of wine by the glass. We went a la carte with some small snack dishes and two larger shared mains. The abalone lardo skewer was divine. Another standout dish was the pork belly with oyster emulsion. The table next to us went with 10 course tasting menu which looked excellent and very filling. Our waiter was good at recommending wines to match our food from their nice selection of Australian and international wines. A cozy and sleek interior with great ambiance. Good for date night or catching up with friends. Parking around the area is a bit limited.

Had Etta on the list for a while so came in for dinner on a chilly Thursday night. Bread was a good way to start off - beautiful crispy exterior and the smoked brown butter was really interesting - caramelised with a bit of a dulce de leches taste. Tomato’s came out as an entree - they were super fresh with a nice crunch and some good tartness. Tuna crudo was one of the best dishes of the meal - arrived on the plate like a work of art with sculpted pickled watermelon radish and Buddha’s hand and scatter flower petals. The fish was super light and fresh with a nice citric acidity to the sauce. Lamb rib was sick - super tender with a crispy outside and a good kick of heat and acidity from the sauce and the pickled chillies. Chicken was excellent - really deep and rich flavour, perfectly cooked with a nice crispy skin. Rainbow trout was the only dish we thought missed the mark. I’m not a massive seafood fan so that probably played into it, but I didn’t love the flavour of the fish itself or the way it was cooked. Malted milk cake gave off little tres leches vibe - its was a simple and tasty dessert but maybe not quite up to the level of the other dishes. Overall excellent meal, great service, nice atmosphere. A gem of a restaurant to have in Brunswick East - hope to come back.

Decent place for a nice meal. We did the “leave it to us” banquet for dinner and left filled with a variety of dishes from scallops, to lamb ribs to pork chop. The highlight was definitely the lamb ribs! And the dessert clafoutis was yummo also. The service was attentive too.

ORDERED: 🍞  Sourdough, smoked brown butter ($4.00 each) 🍚 Crispy rice salad, red curry pork sausage, and mussels ($26.00) 🍄  Tempura enoki, grilled savoy cabbage, and shiitake mushroom ($36.00) 🐷 Otway pork chop, sorrel, roasted sesame, and mustard sauce ($48.00) 🍨 Elderflower and prosecco, cucumber sorbet and kiwiberries ($14.00) I spent $75.90, which includes the 15% public holiday surcharge. REVIEW: I adored the modern fusion vibes at Etta. Starting with our own order of bread and butter, the smoked brown butter blew me away. The smokiness added a layer of depth that isn't present with normal yellow butter, and the salt flakes provided some much needed saltiness for the flavour pops. This bread is a must order!! 😍 For the mains, the combination was generous. Crispy rice salad was even better than the burnt rice I make for myself using the bottom of a pan at home, punched full with flavour. The mussle and pork sausages kept things interesting, but the perfect texture of the crispy rice is worth raving about. A generous heaping of coriander kept things fresh and light as well. ☘️ Tempura enoki was an interesting ode to Japanese cuisine, but it could've used a bit more pizzazz. It felt like the tempura batter could've benefitted from more of a flavour punch. Displayed on the savoy cabbage, the shiitake mushrooms were stacked inside but weren't doing much except making me appreciate the creative way to get veggies inside my body. 🐰 Otway pork chop was delicious. With a generous fat cap, it really soaked in the subtle sesame and mustard sauce. Eat it asap... it got a little too firm for my liking once it was sitting out for a bit. The elderflower and prosecco was a refreshing way to wrap up our meal. Would highly recommend it because the kiwiberries were fun! I've never seen it before, so having the sweet fruit in a biteable cherry format was very cool. 🧐 Service was so friendly. Our waitress was very diligent with the water levels, ensuring we were having a good time and made us feel very comfortable throughout our whole experience. Atmosphere has a warm yellow lighting, music doesn't have any vocals but some soothing beats that's: - Enough to block out the neighbour table's antics and - At a volume perfect soft enough to hear and converse with your dinner partner without either of you raising your voice. 🎶 Etta smashed it out of the park.

Came for a dinner date night. Food was very punchy and packed with flavour. Standouts we’re the ribs, enoki tempura mushroom, bread & butter & abalone skewers.

Dined here during lunch and was seated on the spacious bar counter; well lit from the natural light. Decided to have the tasting menu which had most of the dishes I wanted to try. The meal started off with a few starters: sourdough bread, heirloom tomato and crab cracker and tempura enoki mushroom. Highlight starter was the enoki mushroom, tempura didn't feel greasy and heavy afterwards; very tasty. This was followed by shark bay scallop, kingfish ceviche and stracciatella with shredded potato. Scallop was aromatic and flavourful with the sambal which was not spicy; kingfish was refreshing and well-balanced with the citrus flavour; and the saltiness of the shredded potato was mellowed down with the creamy stracciatella. Also ordered a greenlip abalone cooked on skewer which was not part of the tasting menu; pricey but glad I tried it. For mains, the pork belly rib was served with a side of crispy rice salad and and Ramarro farm leaves. Pork meat was on the leaner side but still tender; farm leaves were fresh; and the crispy rice texture was amazing, so much flavour with the saltiness balanced with the greens and mint leaves. The dessert was a baked pistachio and blackberry tart, soft, crumbly and tasty. Overall a great selection of dishes from the tasting menu, incorporating flavours from Asia. Good portion size and the flavour profiles were balanced and not overpowering. Staffs were friendly and the dishes were served in a timely manner.

Dined here on a Saturday evening (first sitting), pax 4. Arrived on time, shown to our table with no issues - overcoats were taken and hung up to make our dining experience more comfortable and were asked for drink orders relatively quickly (maybe a little too quick as we had not had the opportunity to peruse the drinks list!) For starters we ordered sourdough, smoked brown butter (the smoked brown butter was generously smothered on my slice of sourdough because it was smooth with a slight smokiness), the Oyster, blood plum and chive, the Greenlip abalone and lardo skewer (was a little dry, almost crispy - would give it a miss.), smoked abalone soy and the Shark Bay Scallop, For mains we enjoyed the raw Hiramasa kingfish, pink pomelo and smoked roe (fresh and light - great way to lead into the mains), the stracciatella, burnt garlic and shredded potato (the shredded potato was definitely too salty and needed a lot of stracciatella to balance the saltiness), the crispy rice salad, red curry pork sausage and mussels (the textures and taste was a great combo and considered the best dish of the night.), the woodfired cabbage flower, roasted sesame and hot oil dressing and the Grilled Blue mackeral, fennel and tamarind and the Western Plains pork belly rib, oyster and navets (pork was juicy and had enough char in the right places). Staff were attentive, food was served relatively quickly, no outstanding/memorable dishes but overall a pleasant dinner.

We had a lovely experience dining here last night. Forgot to take photos of the sourdough but it was amazing. Loved the kingfish and abalone. Lamb rib was nice but a bit fatty. The chicken was an absolute winner. Pork was nice but wasn’t super tender and less flavourful on its own (but is served with sauce). Loved the wine options too. Service was friendly. The only thing I would say is table next to the door probably wasn’t the greatest idea as every time people go in or out there is a gush of cold air but the staff were really nice and helped move us to avoid that. Otherwise, highly recommend this place for a nice occasion and we had a great time.

Service and atmosphere was good. Food was so so , as we had high expectations from Etta. All food was more on the asian fusion side, we had the chefs feed me menu and everything was unfortunately quite salty and had similar flavours. We didnt finish some of the last dishes because it was way too salty. (Dishes in the picture) Sadly, given the price point and quality, wont return for food. There are better options in Melbourne

Had the “leave it to us” menu on a Saturday night. The place was busy which adds to the ambience, and food was really good. Enjoyed the lamb ribs, red curry rice salad, and the otway pork chop. The sourdough with brown butter was a really good start to the meal. But what really stood out for us were the cocktails: old fashioned, white negroni, and the cherry and beetroot highball.

A sophisticated, yet relaxed vibe with amazing food, a good wine list & great cocktails. We had delicious delights like Sydney rock oysters with blood plumb and chive, Shark bay scallop with snow crab sambal and Chinese celery, green lip abalone and lardo skewer & smoked abalone, roaring forties lamb rib, black vinegar and markrut lime. Hannah has a great restaurant here. Featuring a proud cocktail maker, knowledgeable and upbeat waitstaff team, a red hot chef & a great overall feel. Also recommended by hatted chef Eileen Horsnell, a good friend of Natalie & I.

Lovely restaurant. Some of the food are absolute stand outs like the scallops, sour dough with burnt butter (yum) , tempura mushroom was great. Italian Orange wine was awesome. You have to know what to order at this restaurant, local knowledge is key. We weren't fans of the stracciatella and potato, we were expecting bigger and warmer. The barramundi was nice , but tricky as a share plate . Other than that .. Awesome. Ps not a fan of the "chefs table" .

I CANNOT WAIT TO GO BACK! Every single dish left that “I wish I had one more bite” feeling, obviously the entire course was way filling so in no way I could eat more lol 🤤 The tempura, scallops were so nice, it’s a must try. Definitely recommend it if you’re visiting Brunswick! Friendly staff, nice vibe and music and the most important, delicious food! PS: I wish I had a better light to take photo of the beautiful dishes, I guess I will have to go back for a better seat 😊

Etta's customer service is some of the best I've ever experienced. Each member of staff was so welcoming and knowledgeable. Then to top it off, the food was divine! Each dish was full of flavour and very interesting. In particular the corn fritters and the prawns. Such simple dishes were made anything but.
