Visited over the weekend with my two young children booked for a 9.30am slot. Line was long to get in but moved smoothly until the line for the sealife photos. Even if you don't want the photos, you still have to wait in the cue, which was not managed by any staff, despite there being two lines and people cutting in. Once you are past this, you are able to move around the exhibitions freely. Unfortunately, as someone with a baby in a pram, this was extremely difficult as numbers are not capped and every walkway is narrow and difficult to get past. To move between floors, you have to wait an extremely long time for a tiny lift for pram access or risk it going up and down the stairs. Anywhere there was a ramp, you could not get past with one in each direction safely. Majority of the exhibitions were great, but we noticed a fair few were missing animals or under repair. Additionally the 4D cinemas was closed as were the rock pools. It's a shame that it is allowed to be so crowded with people on the weekends as it makes accessibility really difficult and as someone who doesn't have the option to come during the week, it makes for a disappointing family day out when people are pushing you around exhibitions. I believe this would be a great experience if they had staff on the floor to manage how many people can be in and out of certain areas, not only for comfort, but should there be a need to evacuate, you would have a stampede of people and injuries would be likely. It was also disappointing to find that every single baby change toilet the nappy bins were overflowing with nappies, yet we had only been inside for less than 30 minutes from when they opened. I would say the bins had easily been neglected from the day before and the smell was revolting. I recommend visiting, but with no pram and during the week as you would not have to endure the chaos of the weekend visit.

Always fantastic experience and great learning for everyone. We hadn't been for around 3 years. It's changed a lot with improved exhibits, clearer access and pathways, and stunning exhibits and experiences. Not necessarily cheap, but you'd expect that. On-site cafe is handy but quite dear. Definitely worth a visit. Try to book a quieter time for the best experience.

Fantastic aquarium and worth the money. We spent about 2 hours exploring and definitely felt that we received great value for the ticket. The jellyfish, stingrays, and sharks were the highlight of my trip and they had beautiful enclosures. The only downside was the penguins. They are gorgeous animals to watch but the enclosure felt a bit grim. I understand it is up to standard for animal welfare, but seeing such gorgeous creatures standing on blue plastic mats within concrete walls was a bit sad and it seemed like they are lacking enrichment. Even if these animals have never experienced their natural habitat I feel more effort could be spent in enhancing the enclosure. That being said they did appear healthy and well cared for. Overall would visit again and do recommend people visit. But if you are only interested in the penguins then perhaps it is not worth the money.

We love coming to the aquarium and experiencing an amazing array of creatures, activities, adventure and knowledge. The Aquarium has a well stocked café (that closes the kitchens at 4pm) and gift shop with plenty of great merchandize, professional photography and sealife encounters and experiences. There are rainforest, river and ocean creatures, with a huge number of sections for kids and adults to explore.

We had previously been to Sealife in Melbourne a few years ago and had a blast. Unfortunately with the current renovations, a major part of the aquarium, and arguably best part, is unavailable. They do provide a 10% discount during this period, however to get the most out of the experience here, I would highly recommend waiting until the renovations are completed.

This aquarium has a large variety of aquatic animals. Don't go during school holidays as it will be packed. We visited on a weekday and there was hardly anyone there. Displays of note: underwater tunnel, jellyfish display, coral reef, penguin enclosure. I also particularly liked the gift shop.

What an amazing experience for the whole family. Learned so much, the kids absolutely loved it. A must see for anybody living or visiting Melbourne. So many gorgeous and rare animals. Will definitely visit again. Sharks were amazing and huge. The penguins were so playful. No boring exhibits and the staff are so helpful and friendly. One of the best places I've been to.

I recently visited the aquarium with my family, and it was an outstanding experience! The diverse range of marine life showcased was breathtaking, and the interactive exhibits added an educational touch for both kids and adults. Penguin area was really fun for kids including 4D movie for kids too, crocodile area also added to the fun. The staff's knowledge and enthusiasm made the visit even more enjoyable. Clean facilities and well-maintained tanks added to the overall positive experience. Highly recommend for a family-friendly outing!

Sensational experience. There were a lot of people when I visited today. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the layout meant we got great views of all the displays. The displays were creative and informative. The short movie was wonderful - enjoyed by all three generations in our group. A wonderful way to spend a few hours.

Nice collection of ocean creatures: fish, reptiles, penguins, crocodiles, and much more!! A good place to visit with young kids and family especially on a rainy day. Everything was well maintained and clean. It was crowded over the thr Christmas period then. Would recommend buying tickets in advance, if not from the store would be fine as well with a short queue. Recommend to come again!

Had the choice of a Fri afternoon or Saturday morning, either way it still would have been busy, but we waited for 30 minutes or so in line on the Saturday. Great for the kids, allow up to 2 hours to work your way through. If you have a stroller or pram please for the sake of others take advantage of the storage service the aquarium provides, because you'll be constantly dodging and weaving the families that don't. Be prepared to be patient with the crowds and the constant lines and milling of people in front of each exhibit. Kids had a fantastic time, glad we took them, just be prepared and pick your time

My favourite tourist attraction in Melbourne was hands down SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium on Flinders Street. A fun filled place for the entire family, SEA LIFE offers 15 various marine areas housing various types of sea creatures from jelly fish to tropical fish, penguins to crocodiles. The enclosures are impressive and the exhibitions are engaging and educational. The gift shop has amazing merchandise and you can pick up a photo at the entrance on your exit. This is a must visit attraction. Highly recommended with distinction!

We visited the aquarium on Monday 28 December 2020. We had booked for 12:15pm. The queue for entry stretched over 100 metres under the bridge with only a narrow path for passers by to get past. The people in the queue were not properly distanced and some not masked. Once inside we could not maintain safe social distancing due to the large numbers allowed entry at the same time. No attempt was made to ensure that a safe number entered each area. I would recommend that people not attend until the Aquarium management ensures a safe flow of customers through the venue. Based on what I saw I would deduce that the way everyone handles windows and exhibits without any assurance of cleaning of surfaces that it is a dangerous place. When we exited via the Aquarium shop we noticed the same overcrowding and that many adult shoppers did not wear masks. The Aquarium itself is great but the overcrowding made it unpleasant, scary and extremely unsafe. The management needs to make this a safe place and enforce healthy practices.

Amazing place to visit with family specially with kids. My son loves to see the penguins fly (swim) in the water and chasing each other. 4D movie was bit scary to my son but overall experience was great. Better to buy ticket in advance if you visiting here in school holidays. Apart from bit wait time for the tickets, there was no hassle to go around the aquarium. Staff is very friendly and helpful.

It is highly recommended, although there are currently no sharks (The Oceanarium is currently closed while the zone undergoes an exciting renovation – unfortunately the sharks and rays will be off display. ) Various marine creatures make children linger and forget to leave. Emperor penguins, jellyfish, little rays, and 4D movies are Impressive.

The aquarium was a pretty good experience overall. The exhibits were exciting and informative. It was a bit crowded at times like others have said but since it's the holidays that's to be expected. Regarding the murky water - it is meant to be like that as the current marine life in the oceanarium are more active in water with less light.

I haven’t been to the aquarium in a few years and not much has changed. It’s still a great place to bring the kids for a couple of hours of fun. We always get a kick out of ordering fish and chips in the cafe and eating it in front of the live fish 🐠 🍟

A great experience when in the CBD and brilliant if taking young children! There were plenty of exhibits, each with its own theme and marine life. Plenty of information throughout and even a 4D show which was great. Can be challenging to navigate, particularly with a stroller, but there are maps provided. Can get very hot when wearing face masks, but definitely a point of interest worth seeing when in Melbourne!

Probably the best aquarium in Australia. I could leave it at that but I think this place deserves a little more love. It's huge and you could easily spend over three hours just looking at incredible sea life they have presented here. But not only that this place takes conservation incredibly seriously all the fish or sea life is either to help preserve that species or is especially created to protect a spefic animal. One of their main exhibits is a crocodile that when you say it's gigantic it's a understatement. One of the biggest salt-water crocodiles in Australia let alone in captivity. But if they didn't protect it, it would of been killed to protect the environment is was originally found in. They have a penguin breeding program to help that endangered species I could go on but there must be a character limit and besides I don't wanna spoil it all for the newcomer so please come and check out a diamond feature of Melbourne and visit SEA LIFE Melbourne.

Great place to visit with your little ones. Lots of coral reef fishes as well as reptails and penguins !!!. Whole tour takes about 2 hours with a 4D movie experience for no extra fees. It's better to book tickets online as its about 10 $ cheaper. Enjoy!!! 😃

great aquarium! went here once before during the renovation— so it’s great to see that all the big fishes are back! ① the queues are a bit confusing, there’s no clear indication which queue is for which ticket. would be great if that’s established! ② while we didn’t go in with a pram— we felt like some of the spaces in the aquarium is too narrow for prams. we kept getting hit by prams because of how narrow the space is, and it took away the experience a little bit because we had to focus on not getting hit instead of looking at the sea creatures. would be great it the area is widen up or arranged in a way that parents & their children can freely walk with their prams. ③ also, we wonder if the water is murky or if it's the glass? can't really see the big fishes unless they're swimming close to the glass. ④ the layout of the aquarium can definitely be improved too— it's hard to navigate in some areas. we actually were walking at the cafe area in circles for a while because we couldn't find the next area. it was still an enjoyable experience nevertheless! we hope that our next visit will be a more pleasant experience.

Awesome place, good fun for kids and to see the sea creatures. Keep 4-5 hours of you schedule the enjoy the aquarium visit. There are many exotic varieties of dishes and sea creatures to watch out for. The penguins are a huge attraction. The food court is nice as well. Easily reachable by public transport and parking is available at walkable distance from the aquarium. We had a great time there.

Have been to the Sydney Aquarium, the Mooloolaba Aquarium and now the Melbourne one. Definately a 4 plus star although some of the areas are mainly for kids. No dramas with that at all. Over for a few days with Chuck McGill and today (4/3/20) we went to have a look. Very impressed especially with the penguin area as was Chuck with your big croc. You're doing a very good job people. Keep it up. We'll definately recommend to our friends in South Australia to visit when next time they're over. ✔✔✔👌

One of the best place to visit in the city, open for all ages to have a learning and fun experience. The place offers discounts for seniors and students too. The place have shops for snacks and souvenirs also. The whole experience or journey took us almost two hours but you can stay for longer hours if you want. Also accessible to wheelchair or people with disabilities.

I've been here 3 times so far so it's been always okay with me. This time however seemed a little lacklustre as well as being a Covid situation waiting to happen. You could book online and the booking website gave the impression that the number of people was limited inside. It certainly did not seem that way when we got there. Apart from at the entrance and exit there were no staff members inside the facility. There was no ensuring that social distancing was regulated and numbers did not get out of control. There were no staff members inside at all. People congregated in huge numbers in small spaces. It seemed more busy than before COVID. They could easily have had people waiting for the next area to clear out before letting in the next few people. You wanted to keep your distance so you could not see any of the exhibits as dozens of others were literally pressed up against the glass. Even through you would try to avoid close proximity people would barge past you making physical contact. Then there was the surprise of the touch screens and other play things for kids that required them to touch something that thousands of others before them had. There were no staff members wiping down these surfaces. With the complete lack of restrictions and supervision I was extremely happy to get out of there. One infected person would make this the next Melbourne Nightmare.

Did the shark dive at the Melbourne Aquarium with a Red Balloon voucher I had been given for Christmas. At first I wasn’t too sure how great this experience would be, however it was absolutely awesome and would do it again. We went diving for approximately 45 minutes and it goes very quickly. Once you get out you immediately want to go back down and do it all over again. The training and help given to everyone diving was very informative and useful. Would highly recommend to anyone looking to do something different right in the heart of the CBD.

Did a private dinner for two in the aquarium after hours. Magical. Perfect evening. It was amazing being there without the annoyance of the fruit of other peoples loins running around and yelling at the top of their lungs. Ratbag kids spoil these sorts of places for adults. The food was delicious, the service wonderful and overall a simply amazing experience. I highly recommend it.

I love Sea life and Penguins..😁👍🇲🇨🇭🇲 Don't bother to trek to Phillip Island to sit and shiver to see a few little penguins at sunset. Come here and you have a great view of the much larger penguins under water and on land... Very impressive, kids loved it as did the adults. More fish than I could imagine. Well worth a visit..

Overall I had a great time. However, once you get past the ticketing section you have to line up for the photo section. Which is great for those who do want photos, but for everyone else you just have to stand in line for 20 minutes for the photos you don't want. It would be great if there was a way to bypass the photo section.

Beautiful enclosures. Well thought for the animals. 5 stars for conservation very educational, lighting is wonderful, plently to see. Lots of ramps and elevatprs for prams and wheelchairs. Staff are polite and helpful. .. altho hated that we had to wait in line 30-40mins at the start for everyone to take a photo. Whats with that? No way for people who dont want a photo to be able to go around. A little frustrating at the start. Booked for 11.30am line was long to get in because of the photos. By the time we past the photo area at entry it was 12.15pm. Not covid friendly.

Quite the experience to have in Melbourne! The aquarium had a variety of sea creatures all in separated sections. Loved the penguin section and the sharks section the most. We had a great day and lots of fun for us and the kids, a bit disappointed because of the renovation, but we already know that 🙂. The only reason way I add 2* is the low maintainance, it looks dirty, especially the cinema. As we seated, I felt itchy nose and irritation. When I saw the fans, I realised why I felt that way. Anyway, here are some pictures.

We had an amazing time at Melbourne's aquarium. Anyone with kids who is travelling to Melbourne and thinking about going it is totally worth it. My daughter said it was the highlight of our trip. Underwater creepy crawlies, jellyfish, star fish you can touch, a walk through glass dome section with saw fish, manta rays and sharks and an Australian wetlands area with snakes, frogs and crocs. Plenty of photo opportunities and learnings for the little ones. Has a cafe and a gift shop for a cute little souvenir. If you've got kids, (actually even if you don't) it's absolutely worth it to spend a few hours here.

Giving minus -1 ⭐️because the sharks weren’t there during our visit. Apparently they were in Sydney. A bummer because they are my favourite! 😩 The Aquarium is not as big as I was expecting it to be, though you can get lost easy. The directions plastered on the wall don’t help much. I LOVED the penguins and the jellyfish. This was the highlight and probably made the ticket worth buying. Another -1 ⭐️ because I think Sealife should renovate the place. This is one of Melbourne’s go-to Tourists spots, however I have seen and enjoyed better aquariums. It’s not well-maintained. The place was dirty and felt old. Cafeteria didn’t look appealing as well.

The attraction itself is great, plenty for the kids to see and do and decent value when you purchase a combined discounted ticket with Legoland Discovery. Only wish these attractions had property run cafes/restaurants inside as the food options are limited and generally terrible. Next time we'd look to have lunch beforehand and spend the afternoon rather than head there in the morning.

My first time at the Sea Life, it was enjoyable and staff were great. The layout was easy to follow and attractions easy to view. There was something for all ages. Sadly the big tank was being worked on or renovated but still lots to see and do. We had lunch there and I must say very pricey for a family. We parked at Crown and had a very short stroll across the bridge. Favorite parts: Jelly Fish, Penguins (could watch them all day) Sea Horses and giant Crocodile.

I thought the whole setting was super cute, the animals, but the penguins' habitat is very bad for them, they have no space and they look very sad! It's a shame. all the other fish are in a very nice place but the penguins are alone and sad. It's not enjoying seeing that

This establishment is disorganized and poorly managed. Regardless of whether you book online or in person, expect long and disorderly queues. The process includes waiting to have your ticket scanned and then for a photograph, all within a confined entryway. The ticket prices are excessive, costing over $250, which equates to roughly $50 per person. Additionally, the lack of on-site parking adds to the inconvenience. Given the overall experience, a fair price would be no more than $15 per person. I have visited aquariums in Singapore and Dubai, and compared to those, this aquarium falls significantly short. The variety of fish is disappointingly limited, the water appears murky, and the space feels overcrowded. I regret to say that I will not be returning to this disappointing establishment

It was a great day out with friends! So many interesting things to see. I was amazed at how clear the water was! I learned a lot and was able to see some of my faves...sting rays, turtles, and penguins up close!

Great place for the kids, the 360 view of the underwater aquarium is magnificent. There's everything you would imagine to see and also there's virtual reality stations a 4D cinema and food area. Highlights were the seahorses, jellyfish and turtle displays

Brilliant place for kids and adults. My entire family is an annual pass holder. However, more cleanliness could be maintained by visitors being more respectful and by hiring more cleaning staff. Also, more security or staff could be hired to ensure people follow the guidelines to be kind to the sea life, e.g. despite written warnings, people continue to bang the glass walls where the penguins are displayed.

Very impressive aquarium. Great exhibits, we especially loved the glass tunnel and jelly fish parts. One thing we noticed was the aquarium was very set up for kids and often viewing was sometimes not set up for our adult selves. Staff were all very friendly, helpful, and informative.

I visited sea life, a few years ago. I had an awesome time. Fantastic set up, the variety of sea life is unbelievable. Bring the kids, they'll have a great time. When you're in Melbourne & restrictions have eased, be sure to visit, I guarantee you won't regret it. I've still got my White pointer souvenir.

SeaLife Aquarium is a fabulous place especially for kids. There is so much to see with a whole lots of fish, sharks, jellyfish, whales, crocodiles, sea horse penguins and so much more. Kids especially love the huge glass wall theatre where you can get up close with the wide variety of sea creatures. The glass tunnel is awesome as well. There is also fun room where kids can paint sea creature on screen and then can watch their picture on huge wall. It's fun especially for young kids and you would need to make a lot of efforts to get them away from there. Staff is very nice and friendly. What I liked this time compared to my previous visits was that I was able to download pictures taken there. Last time I had to buy physical prints to get the code to download pictures. This time it seems the cost of digital download was included in the ticket price which was nice. There are toilets and a nice cafe. You can get a beautiful view of Yarra river and river walk from the cafe. Good spot to take some selfies. The only caution I would recommend is to keep tab on kids. It's quite dark and kids can easily wander off and it can get tricky to locate them. So keep them close and have fun. Highly recommended!

Melb aquarium is very good in organising many education sessions for children. Even there is small and not many animals compared to Singapore, I think it is good for family and children to spend time Bd learn about sea world.

  • 3/5 Gareth S. 3 years ago on Google
Have reviewed my opinion and rating. Marginally one of the better big-city aquariums, yet very much over-priced in the context of local and international animal-oriented attractions. $32 for my 3 year old, and the only connected car-parking deal cost me $38 after discount. So it cost my daughter and me $116 to go to the aquarium for a few hours, including the experience of walking down the urine-soaked stairwell at the car park. Finally, the Bay of Rays lacks actual rays, and there's no real opportunity to touch anything living.

(Translated by Google) The aquarium is really huge, the visit easily lasts 3 hours and the fish and other creatures are more impressive than the others. At the rendezvous: penguins, sea crocodile (huge), sharks, magnificent and immense manta rays, reptiles of all kinds, dragon seahorse etc ... The particularity of this aquarium is that it offers a very fun activity for children, that is to say that it offers the possibility of being able to color a fish, jellyfish, shark or crab of any color and by the then make it appear and SWIM in a virtual aquarium which is great fun!

I really enjoyed the trip behind the tour, and how much food you feed the aquarium each day. The best part was when watching the stingrays eat. It started to splash water everywhere. It was such a experience. The boat ride was also incredible never seen a shark that big in my whole life. And the story told by the staff were amazing. With the booklets of all the creatures under the aquarium. ❤️

The kids had a lot of fun and learned so much about aquatic life. The curved glass plays with your eyes so if you spend too much time here you might end up with a bit of a head ache. It is a bit expensive but worth the visit

Wonderful experience for those who love sea life you can have a great chance to see and monitor the real sea life very closely. Super friendly, nice and cooperative staff who will guide you on every step. Stunning ambience, everything is more than perfect and up to the mark. Entry tickets are reasonably priced. Full marks to the management, keep it up guys.

This is the second time i've been and was dissapointed. It was over crowded, a few of the exhibits were closed and the pricing is way over priced which is why it got a three. I think there are far better value for money attractions in Melbourne.

I visited to take part in the "swim with the Sharks" activity. It was totally amazing. TBH I was actually more interested in the scuba diving aspect of the experience, the Sharks were just a plus. The staff were amazing, from the beginning to end. They took us through the experience with care and professionalism. I had previously taken part in a introduction to scuba diving course and found that my experience with Melb aquarium, was by far, better equipped, more instructive and better run. I recommend the swim with the Sharks (sting rays, fish) experience to any body, at any level, it was totally amazing. Thanks Jess. Just in way of advice, be careful where you park near by. I noted before I went, the aquarium offered a discounted ticket at a nearby wilsons car park. In my haste not wanting to be late I parked in the "secure" car park across the road and not the wilsons where the discount was offered. Was stung a $60 parking fee.

Had a lovely day at the Aquarium. The displays were amazing and we were able to see the penguins feeding. Only real negative was too many people and it was impossible to distance. Also make sure you get a map, we missed a whole section because the signage is not great and a bit confusing. The food was good in the cafe was nice, fresh and reasonably priced, but again lots of people, so needed to share our table. The girls loved to experience overall, so will visit again soon.

What an entertaining venue for little ones! Adults also would love it as it makes everyone to like by showcasing hundreds of sea creatures. Sharks and penguins are the dominant ones among them. Entry fee and photo charges are bit high, though it's worth it, if it is one off visit.

There is no competition in this field 🤪 Disappointed that they turned of water and 3d in their 4d cinema.

  • 1/5 Helene A. 3 years ago on Google
We had pre booked tickets hoping that this will ensure that the numbers are limited and that we can keep social distancing. When we arrived we where herded like cattle and squeezed into a small area to have our photograph taken. From there on the place was crowded and it was near impossible to keep your distance when there were clearly too many people allowed into such a small space. Secondly, I was horrified at the size of the animal enclosures. The sea turtle was bumping into glass and rocks and could hardly swim two arms lengths, yhe crocodile was couped up in a small pen, the crab maybe had 1m to move around and the penguins were squeezed into tiny space. I felt sick to my stomach, these animals are imprisoned. Something has to be done to improve the quality of life for these poor animals or they should rather be set free.

Nice aquarium, kids loved it. We went on Saturday though, and it was super crowded with people not social distancing at all. I'm not obsessed about mask-wearing or anything like that, but this was really dodgy; I guarantee if just one person had the wu-flu earlier today, 50 people would have it now. So either ensure that you control numbers so people can distance, or don't control numbers but get people to wear masks. I re-iterate that it is a really nice aquarium though, with friendly staff.

Covid life aquarium. Booked a time slot as required online attended a line around the block to get into the establishment for this particular time slot. It was like being a sardine ready to be fed to the penguins. There was zero social distancing, it was more like social crowding and a race to catch this virus. I would recommend attending on a week day. I've given 1 star for the penguins and 1 star for the employees being so lovely and informative.

This is a great place to take the kids for a day of fun and learning. It's a little pricy (2 adults and 1 kid = $100+ but it must have massive operation costs. The animals are more active than at the zoo which I feel weird saying as animals are not there to entertain but for education, conservation etc. Any how well worth the price of admission and the yearly pass (which we didn't get this time would make it a bargain)

Very good and friendly stuff and many places designed for families. Interactions are available for young kids. Unfortunately the size of the aquarium is not very big if you compare with the other ones I. all the other top cities. And the water tunnel part doesn’t have enough space to do the diving. In all it’s good option for young families.

Great place for anyone to go for a day out. Went as a family with a small baby. If you have a big pram take a slim/smaller one or put bub in a carrier. We went on a busy Saturday so easier to not have a bulky pram with everyone else's prams and the crowds. Food was surprisingly good and had a great time seeing all of the sea life.

This is like every aquarium I've been to in the past. That doesn't mean it isn't worth it or boring. Being able to see the creatures of the sea in this format is always amazing. I visited during COVID times so a lot of the interactive displays were closed. Also it appeared a lot of the information screens for the creatures were not operational as they appeared to be digital and touch screen based. This made it less enjoyable as you weren't sure exactly what you are looking at or to be able to find out more about them. We had a large school group at the same time which did detract from the experience as they were primary school age so quite loud and running around making it hard to get close to the displays. We spent approximately 1 hour 45mins walking around. We saw everything to offer. High lights are the tunnels, jelly fish and the massive crocodile. I had a very young toddler with me so this was a good amount of time. Older children and adults could spend longer really looking at and enjoying the displays. The biggest issue I had was parking. There is no parking at the aquarium. However they recommend/state they have a partnership with a car park a short distance away on Flinders Lane. We followed this advice and the signs. Parked and returned less then 2 hours later. We were charged $45 for the parking space. This is crazy as they have early bird options for $16 the entire day. If they have a partnership then you should be able to get a code/discount from the aquarium so you are also only paying $16. I would look at other car parking next time. Also highly recommend a train if this is a possibility for you. Unfortunately this was not an option for us. My little one loved it and was amazed by the entire experience. I will definitely be back in the future. All up it cost $120 for my family of 3 (little one had free entry due to age).

A lot of fun. I definitely recommend getting the annual pass. Food is a bit mediocre, but face it, it’s not what you’re there to see!

  • 5/5 Helen B. 2 years ago on Google
Had the greatest time walking through the many aquariums. I spent ages watching the marine life swimming through the aquariums. You get some great close up views of the different marine life. Nice to see the work they are doing in the Jelly Lab. The lighting is perfect for every aspect of a jelly fish moving through the water. Great viewing spots for the kids for their own close up look. Plenty of opportunities for some good photos. Would always go back on future visits to Melbourne

  • 4/5 Cecilia W. 2 years ago on Google
Nice experience for kids and good for adults too. Takes about 1.5-2 hours to complete the whole thing. I guess it’s not too bad for the price. We enjoyed the jellyfish, deep ocean, sea horses and penguins. Quite amazing the colony of penguins they have there. I do wonder how they got there... Ethics aside it’s a nice day out. Could have more kid friendly information about the animals. Some of the electronic displays weren’t working and some of the animals had no info. Movie was very strange and didn’t seem relevant. Would probably go again some day.

I took my three young kids there twice in two consecutive weeks. We all had a great time on both occasions. This aquarium definitely exceeded my expectations. I love how the aquarium is designed. You can see everything simply by following the route from entry to exit and you can also easily take shortcuts to skip certain sections. The aquarium is nicely organised into different sections. The range of sea life on exhibit is fantastic. There are so many things to love about this aquarium. My favourite parts include touching and learning about the shark eggs and sea sponges, seeing the octopus, watching gigantic rays and saw fish going pass the tunnel and the penguins near the exit. My kids also loved the 4D movie but unfortunately one of the projectors was broken and the movie became a 2D movie. The projector was still not fixed the second time we were there. The whole aquarium is wheelchair accessible. I had a pram during my visit and had no problem with access. The only downside is that you need to use the lifts which can be a bit crowded and there can be a queue on busy days.

Hello again! Just revisited this place and it's amazing! I've been here so many times and I still can't bare to watch those penguins! Although I didn't get many photos, I couldn't stop watching the penguins! i highly recommend this place for animal lovers!

Really cool place ... excuse the pun ... and it was actually a really nice temperature throughout ... our little group had a great time ... impressed by how large the place is ... so many different areas ... I was a bit heart broken though when setting such a huuuuge crocodile in technically a small space. I hope it gets some time out in the sun some how! I was a bit frustrated that there was no way at all to call you guys to make an adjustment to our booking, luckily it didn't matter that we were half an hour late... you website does suggest I can call you, but there is no number listed!!

Great half day activity for the kids, especially the little ones. There's plenty of interactive activities and talks to help educate everyone. Best to book beforehand you save a little bit per ticket, especially if you're an RACV member. No parking on site, but plenty of paid options within a few minutes walk of sea life, once again, pre book your parking and you can save a bit. Tram stop directly out front if using transport.

  • 3/5 Yolanda R. 3 years ago on Google
Very crowded, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. Lovely staff throughout the experience. Quite expensive for minimal things. Food is expensive too and the seating is often flooded with people, so you have to be quick to get a seat. Very awesome views of sea creatures and different animals and close ups with them too. Awesome watching the penguins get fed right in front of you!

  • 5/5 Sharie S. 2 years ago on Google
Definitely is a good place to explore! Kids spent almost 2 hours to finishing the tours. We like the penguins, jellyfish and the giant crab!

  • 4/5 Ash N. 2 years ago on Google
One of the best attractions in city of Melbourne. A selection of sea creatures in an entertaining sequence along with a range of activities for all ages. The only negative point was the number of people allowed inside which made the experience a bit too crowdy, with no chance of social distancing. Range of food and drinks also needs to be improved.

  • 4/5 Jonathon G (. 2 years ago on Google
This place is awesome! Spent too much time having fun that I didn't take too many pictures. A lot of people during the school holidays though, and the rooms are quite small so it can get loud. I can only imagine it would be even better with less people around!

Absolutely brilliant place to visit whether you live in Melbourne or are visiting this is a place not to miss. Although the Q is long they get people in very quickly. Well done sea life aquarium

Was a great day for the kids and me! Always interesting and great to see some of the creatures up close. Was fairly busy on a weekend but plenty of room to move through the exhibitions regardless. Really enjoyed the penguins and the sea dragons. • 4/5 Kenny W. 2 years ago on Google
A surprisingly large experience given small street frontage. Goes underground with good immersive experiences covering a good amount of Australian sealife. Interactive and fun for small children and plenty for them to see and do. Some better signage and layout would help as we got confused a few times even with the map. The glass on displays needs to be cleaned more often or more thoroughly. Lots of snot, hand prints etc made some displays less engaging. Post covid recovery is obviously something there working through with multiple displays empty or being rebuilt or enhanced. It'll be great to come back and see it all touched up.

I like the way the fish tanks are kept so clean. Beautiful creatures big and small. And the 10 minutes 4D cinema treat was soooo enjoyable and funny (based on ice age movie) Cafeteria is good too we enjoyed the latte and chicken burger. Overall its was a good trip Worth your money.

A good place to bring kids for experiencing sea life. Good collection of exhibits across a large area with good amenities. Some of the areaa can definitely use some improvement and better maintenance. The penguins didn't look too happy in a not so big enclosure. Similar attractions in cities like Bangkok/ Singapore are better than Melbourne Sea Life.

Sea life Melbourne is a great choice for visiting during school holidays. I booked the day before and paid for it. The price is reasonable. You can get there easily by tram or train. The staff are really friendly and kind. The fish and sea creatures are really amazing and my children love there so much. Highly recommended for children between 3-12 years old. It has a 4D cinema as well and we enjoyed a lot.

  • 5/5 William H. 1 year ago on Google
I genuinely enjoyed my experience. I spent probably 60-90minutes exploring the place while obsessively trying to line up the perfect pictures. The large tank that you walk under and around was truly mesmerizing. I've never seen a sawfish up close and in such detail. I went as a solo traveler, and while it's definitely gear towards children it's just as entertaining for patient adults.

Very busy, as being school holidays, there is alot to see and do. Recommended you buy your tickets in advance. Check for feed times to ensure seeing them, sharks, and stingrays currently getting refurbished. Cafe 9r food is reasonable, staff are excellent..kids activity packs available at the entrance, shop on the way out..easy accessible from the tram lines or train station.

  • 4/5 Amy W. 10 months ago on Google
It's ok. Loved being able to take the kids. It was clean and the attractions are pretty cool. There's not much in the way of food in the cafe, probably the most disappointing part. It was pretty packed and getting around a little frustrating. (Not all the aquariums fault, some people just cant/don't read signage)

We had an absolutely fabulous time at Melbourne Aquarium, so much to explore for the little ones and heaps to look at for adults. The displays are engaging for children and ours had a ball. We will be back. Looking forward to the tunnels opening up again.

The first two floors were OK and can get a little crowded. Jellyfish exhibits are fabulous, as are the sea dragons and sea horses. The crocodile is enormous! The penguins were our highlight!

Great place to visit.. can spend hours there just watching the fish. Not too bad for a public holiday there was a fair amount of people.

  • 3/5 Lee Yu X. 9 months ago on Google
They are so busy at the public holiday, this was my very first time here since i’ve been to Melbourne for 5 years. They are smaller than i thought, maybe busier. Maybe it’s not the right time, the under the sea tunnel were closed for maintenance or something. And have to pay extra for some other-thing.

  • 4/5 Leesa R. 9 months ago on Google
Decent aquarium. Missed the sharks and rays, though cause they are currently out for refurbishment. This was well advised in advance though. Loved the feeding talk with the reef fish, especially the leopard shark who kept dropping his fish.

  • 5/5 Justine S. 9 months ago on Google
We came to the aquarium about 7 years ago with our 5 year old nephew, and returned in 2023 with our almost-4-year old son, the aquarium has so much to see that on both occasions we visited we didn't see every attraction. On the occasion in 2023, we knew the shark tank was closed but that you could see virtual digital experiences instead. We made it to about 6 attractions and I think there were about 14 or so to see. The Octopus, penguins and jelly fish were particularly cool and the interactive drawing where you can colour in a image and see it float by in the ocean was also a cool experience. The food at the cafe was good, the free photos from the beginning are available for purchase inside a book for $40 (1) or $60 (2) or can download freely via QR barcode. Overall a great day, would recommend for any age probably just prepare to not see the whole thing in one go with little people. Would come again in a few years.

Love this place!! Took two young boys with me who just had hours of a blast!! Although there is a section closed - it was still a great experience and most definitely worth it! I got the info of where to park from the Aquarium’s website which made things so much easier for me - & the walk was only a short distance which was great! The staff at the aquarium are so friendly and approachable! We would definitely be coming back for more sea life fun & adventures :)

  • 4/5 Asmaa 9 months ago on Google
Super cool, lovely for families with small children as there are lots of interactive displays and fun experiences to keep them entertained. The 4D movie may not be suitable for smaller children as the shaking seats and loud noises might frighten them. Unfortunately the shark tank was closed for maintenance and won’t be opening until 2024 :( There are a few cafes inside the aquarium but they are quite pricey so i’d recommend bringing your snacks with you.

  • 3/5 Candy S. 8 months ago on Google
We have loved coming here, and although we loved so much of our visit this time, we really did miss the sharks and sting rays. If you are able to wait and get your moneys worth by seeing the full display I would recommend it. Otherwise it was a great experience for a fun family day out!

  • 5/5 Ram M. 8 months ago on Google
The experience was so great,my daughter was so happy. The only cons I can say is that about the way to the Penguins area there was no clear signage directing where it was if my daughter didn't ask where she can see the penguins we wouldn't have a clue. Over all it was a great experience.

  • 2/5 E G. 8 months ago on Google
It was ok! I found it a bit hard to navigate, and one of the lifts were under maintenance so the stairs were a bit difficult with a pram. The penguin area was awesome though. I really loved that! 5 stars for the penguins. I would have loved to see more sharks, but next time when they are finished renovating their tanks.

We had a good time at the Melbourne Aquarium, despite the crowds. The tickets for the time we arrived were sold out and we needed to reserve a later time slot due to not having pre-purchased tickets. There was a wide variety of fish to see, and the exhibits provided plenty of informative content.

  • 5/5 Houda G. 7 months ago on Google
Nice aquarium for little ones. Very convenient location, easy to get around, friendly staff and many interactive displays. We’ll probably come back as the sharks & rays display is closed for renovation right now.

SeaLife Aquarium is a fantastic place for families! It's incredibly child-friendly, making it a perfect outing for kids. While it may be smaller than some international aquariums, it doesn't compromise on the experience. The variety of marine life and interactive exhibits ensure a memorable visit for all ages. Highly recommend for a quick day out.

  • 4/5 Robi I. 6 months ago on Google
Very nice place to spend some hours for you or with family to see the underwater creatures. I loved watching Jelly Fish and the shark in the big aquarium. Penguins were also so cute. Only thing is that I was expecting a much bigger place with lots of other variations, but enjoyed the day.

  • 4/5 Gianna Z. 6 months ago on Google
After not having been in a couple years, it was lovely to visit. It was a bit confusing to navigate, so I wish we were provided with a map or something like that. The only other negative that I have for this place is the lack of staff. It would be really great to have someone to ask questions about in different sections, but I understand that that may not be realistic. Beautiful experience overall though.

  • 3/5 hazem a. 5 months ago on Google
I actually anticipated more, it is on a big land, however, the fish displayed varieties was less than what I expected and the sharks were not there as there is a maintenance to there living area. To be honest the best part that me and the kids enjoyed was the Jellyfish land, it was magnificent.

SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium is an absolute gem in the heart of the city, and I can't recommend it enough! My recent visit left me thoroughly impressed, and I would easily give it five stars. The variety of animals on display is simply outstanding. From majestic sea turtles to mesmerising seahorses, and everything in between, the collection is both diverse and captivating. The attention to detail in creating enclosures that mimic the creatures' natural habitats is truly commendable. It adds an extra layer of authenticity to the experience, making you feel like you've embarked on a real underwater adventure. One delightful surprise during my visit was the aquarium's café. Not only was it a great place to relax and recharge, but it also served some incredibly tasty food. When I found myself getting hungry, the menu offered a delightful selection that exceeded my expectations. It's not every day you can enjoy a delicious meal amidst such fantastic aquatic surroundings. In summary, SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium is an exceptional destination for families, friends, or anyone looking for a memorable and educational experience. The wide variety of animals and their incredible enclosures, along with the scrumptious dining options, make it a must-visit attraction in Melbourne. Don't miss out on this aquatic adventure! Five stars all the way!

  • 3/5 Monique C. 5 months ago on Google
We enjoyed our visit, the staff were lovely, especially Vicky (Lego Dots) and the staff member who gave the penguin talk. However it’s looking a bit old and rough in some parts. Some of the glass was very dirty and the penguins and crocodile looked miserable. A few of the displays had no sea life. I should mention they are helping to breed endangered animals etc, so that’s wonderful. I would like to warn families about the photo album upselling at the end. They cost a ridiculous amount and there was no warning or signage with the cost and what they were. My son thought they were free, so he got quite upset. Legoland didn’t do this, so I’m might sure why it’s needed.

  • 4/5 Janet L. 5 months ago on Google
Went whilst they were upgrading the aquarium and it was still pretty good. The jellyfish exhibit and penguins were our favourites. Being from Sydney we do prefer the Sydney Sealife over the Melbourne one but it’s still worth going and we would recommend it! Great half day for the kids and lots of interactive things for them to do there!

  • 4/5 Haohan L. 4 months ago on Google
Great experience at the aquarium. Lots of fun and interesting stuff to see, especially the penguins and the jellyfish exhibits. A little manipulative with the price of the photo album at the end but it's a very popular tourist attraction and well worth a visit if you are just touring around Melbourne.

  • 5/5 Jeanniefer S. 4 months ago on Google
The location of this place exactly in front of the tram stop, it should be easy to find. If you like aquarium, this place good enough to visit. They also have some of short sciences class for kids, that would be fun. The place you can see pinguin really that close

  • 5/5 Foyzul K. 3 months ago on Google New
Amazing family friendly place, time well spent. In my personal opinion, Melbourne Sealife seems bit better than it's Sydney counterpart. 4D movie was awesome and educational for everyone (not only for kids). But shark and penguin experience is better in Sydney 😅 I suggest visitors to buy the yearly pass to maximize the monetary values.

Excellent collection of fish, reptiles, penguins, crocodiles and Soo much more!! One of the best places to visit with your family. The food from the cafeteria was excellent and fresh too. Everything was well maintained, clean and a really good variety of sea creatures. Was a bit crowded over the weekend but not too bad. Would recommend buying tickets in advance, I got mine from an app called Headout and got a really good discount for general entry.

Visited on a 1st Jan, New Years Day, no wait time plenty of space to walk around not too crowded. Lots of hands on experience for the kids. Croc was massive. Had a chat with a Sting Ray, told em to be careful because Steve Irwin still got boys on the outside 😂😂😂. Overall was a great experience with the family.

  • 5/5 Skeeter W. 3 months ago on Google New
Great atmosphere, staff friendly. No need to pre book ticket as you still line up. Few suggestions to make the place run smoother.... a line is needed for people not wanting their photos taken as this held up the line which is not a good thing considering a high percentage of your patrons are kids. Also, great to offer a few freebies., but lets be honest, nothing is free. Let the patrons know you will try to sell photo to them at the end, better to be open. I would also suggest leaving prams out the front and banning them from inside as this held up a lot of people and made it frustrating for the people pushing the prams. The aquarium was clean and well maintained. The resturant was clean, but very limited choices, would love to see a healthier option for people. The 4d movie was great and the penguin enclosure was great to finish on. I found the gift shop at the end highly over priced....maybe leave that one and head to kmart after...great day out for family but remember...bring loads of snacks, wet ones, water and maybe some colouring in or a device to entertain the kids while you have a few minutes off at lunch. Great job Melbourne, BUT still a few things to sort out.

I had lots of fun looking at all the different animals and sea creatures. My favourites would be the penguins, frogs, turtles, and jellyfish (so pretty to look at) and the little rays. It's very interactive and easy to find your way around. The 4D cinema was an interesting experience. Loved it!

Beautifully set out in 15 different areas. Lots to see and explore. I really like how the exhibits are interactive with kids and adults which adds to the experience. The exhibits are well maintained and I interesting. The help of the computer screen also adds to the overall experience as it highlights the Marie life you are looking in at each exhibit. Really enjoyed the 4D movie as well. Would highly recommend anyone to visit one off the best aquariums I see.
