Fair notice at the beginning of this review, I am not religious. I am a huge fan of church and cathedral architecture though. This was an incredible spiritual experience for my wife, son and I. The amber glow from the translucent alabaster windows beautifully lit every nook and cranny of this wonderful building. Would definitely recommend this place as an awe-inspiring place of worship or for those who just admire gothic brickwork. The surrounding garden is also incredibly beautiful and worth a stroll.

(this is from the perspective of my wedding video shoot here at the church) - The exterior of this enormous church is beautiful. The interior of this enormous church is beautiful... but the interior is SO YELLOW... And then the central altar is actually under a kind of daylight, so there is very mixed lighting to deal with.

An imposing building which holds its own against the skyscraper temples to Mammon which surround it. The design belies its youth - it has a feel of being much older. The gardens and grounds are beautiful - for anyone wanting peace and quiet they are a perfect place to pass some time. Inside the cathedral is very light, bright and welcoming. The archbishop was outside after the service talking to all the worshippers - very refreshing to see as I don't think that happens at home! Well worth a visit.

Architecturally stunning and full of history. The building, images and furniture are spotless. Unlike other St Pat’s churches, there are not a lot of images of the saint itself but rather some iconography here and there, which makes it quite interesting to discover.

A truly remarkable architecture masterpiece. The gothic style cathedral was so beautiful our jaws dropped the moment we stepped in. The stained glass and fine detailing inside and outside captured our hearts. We would highly recommend visiting this cathedral if you are in Melbourne.

Lo, a grand and imposing cathedral stands resolute before us, a tribute to the splendor of yesteryear. The awe-inspiring interior design of this majestic edifice is truly a sight to behold, a testament to the prodigious skill of the artisans who wrought it. Its dimensions are nothing short of gargantuan, evocative of a bygone era steeped in the bounty of the gold rush. Indeed, this remarkable church is a veritable wonder of architectural mastery, replete with statues and woodwork of unparalleled beauty. Its historical significance cannot be overstated, a legacy of the past etched into the very walls of the structure. And what of the midnight mass I was fortunate enough to bear witness to in 2015? It was a spectacle beyond words, a moment of grace and reverence that shall forever be etched into the annals of memory.

Beautiful Cathedral..... The globe 🌏 looks amazing.... This place is holding big globe 🌏 and opposite to this building (NGV) is holding the moon (same size). The place has a huge musical instrument which is played with air. Hoping to hear the music sometime. It was very quite and enjoyed my time here.

St. Patrick's Cathedral in Melbourne, Australia, is a remarkable architectural masterpiece that stands as a testament to both the city's rich history and its vibrant spiritual heritage. This stunning Gothic Revival cathedral, with its intricate details and awe-inspiring presence, offers visitors a truly memorable experience. Architecture: The architecture of St. Patrick's Cathedral is simply breathtaking. The soaring spires, intricate carvings, and magnificent stained glass windows all contribute to its grandeur. The cathedral's facade is adorned with exquisite sculptures and delicate stonework, showcasing the craftsmanship and attention to detail of its creators. Inside, the high vaulted ceilings and elegant arches create a sense of grandeur and tranquility. Atmosphere: The atmosphere within St. Patrick's Cathedral is serene and reverent, offering a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city. As you step inside, you are enveloped by a sense of calmness and spiritual solace. The soft lighting and the hushed whispers of visitors contribute to the sacred ambiance, inviting contemplation and reflection. History: St. Patrick's Cathedral holds a significant place in Melbourne's history. Construction of the cathedral began in 1858, and it was completed in 1939, making it one of the city's oldest and most cherished landmarks. The cathedral has witnessed countless weddings, funerals, and religious ceremonies, becoming an integral part of the community's spiritual fabric. Exploring its history provides a deeper appreciation for the legacy and heritage it represents. Little-known facts: 1. The architect of St. Patrick's Cathedral, William Wardell, drew inspiration from medieval European cathedrals, infusing the structure with a unique blend of French and English Gothic styles. 2. The cathedral's foundation stone was laid by Charles Perry, the first Catholic Archbishop of Melbourne, in 1858. However, due to financial constraints and other challenges, the cathedral took several decades to complete. 3. St. Patrick's Cathedral is renowned for its impressive collection of stained glass windows, many of which were created by renowned artists such as William Montgomery and Auguste Fischer. 4. The cathedral's bells, which were cast in England and installed in 1880, have rung out for over a century, marking significant events and celebrations in Melbourne's Catholic community. 5. St. Patrick's Cathedral has been featured in several movies, including the 2003 film "The Night We Called It a Day" and the 2014 film "Predestination." Points of Interest: 1. Main Nave: Walk down the central nave and marvel at the vast space, ornate decorations, and towering columns. 2. Stained Glass Windows: Take a moment to appreciate the intricate beauty of the stained glass windows, each telling its own captivating story. 3. Crypt: Descend to the crypt, where you can pay your respects at the final resting place of various bishops and archbishops. 4. Chapels: Explore the smaller chapels within the cathedral, each dedicated to a different saint or religious theme. These intimate spaces offer a peaceful retreat for prayer and contemplation. 5. Organ: If you're lucky, you might have the opportunity to witness a performance on the cathedral's magnificent pipe organ, which boasts an impressive array of pipes and a rich, resonant sound. Visiting St. Patrick's Cathedral is a truly enchanting experience. Whether you are religious or simply appreciate the beauty of sacred architecture, this iconic Melbourne landmark offers a profound sense of awe and reverence. Immerse yourself in its rich history, admire its architectural splendor, and let the peaceful atmosphere envelop you as you explore this spiritual gem in the heart of the city.

St Bartlett's Cathedral is Australia's tallest and southern hemisphere's tallest church, and the second tallest is St. Paul Cathedral across from Commonwealth Square. The exterior of the church building is made of local Victorian turquoise and similar materials, so it has a dark brown color.Decorated around the building with a large number of stone art, the entire church building presents a magnificent view. The interior of the church is equally impressive, with a traditional east-west axis and an altar at the eastern end symbolizing the resurrection of Christ. Tall columns, huge pipe organ, and gorgeous stained-glass windows depict biblical metaphors and truths. There are many small altars and statues on both sides of the church. Each altar represents a biblical figure or story, and Catholics who believe in religion know better than I do what the meaning or story of the statue. The main altar inside the church (Altar), the gold-coloured decorations in the white marble church looks especially dazzling!

As a tourist exploring Melbourne, one of the highlights of my visit was seeing St. Patrick's Cathedral. This magnificent church captivated me with its stunning Gothic architecture and towering spires. From the moment I laid eyes on its intricate facade, I was in awe of its beauty and grandeur. Stepping inside, I was greeted by the peaceful ambiance and interior adorned with intricate stained glass windows and ornate decorations. It was a truly humbling experience to witness such a magnificent place of worship and a must-see for anyone visiting Melbourne.

St. Patrick's Cathedral in Melbourne is a masterpiece of Gothic Revival architecture. Its soaring spires, intricate stained glass windows, and detailed craftsmanship make it a breathtaking sight. The grandeur of the cathedral, both inside and out, reflects a timeless beauty that adds to Melbourne's cultural and historical richness. I had a very warm time at St Patrick's. ❤️

Huge Cathedral just outside of Melbourne CBD. Major tourist attraction parking in the area is street parking and nearly always very difficult to find a spot, $4 an hour if you can find one.

I’m a big fan of cathedral architecture. I was impressed right from the entrance and the garden surrounding St Patrick’s Cathedral. The outside and inside are absolutely stunning and peaceful. The style of the cathedral falls into the category of Gothic Revival. The most striking thing about St Patrick’s is its height. It is the tallest and, overall, the largest church building in Australia.

Cathedral of the Archdiocese of Melbourne is dedicated to St Patrick, the pioneering Irish bishop. The cathedral is built on east–west axis, with the altar at the eastern end, symbolising belief in the second coming of Christ. The plan is in the style of a Latin cross, consisting of a nave with side aisles and a sanctuary with seven chapels, and sacristies. Dedicated in 1851 and consecrated in 1897, it is built in Gothic style with majestic towers and high arches. Interior had a golden glow from the stained glass windows.

Beautifully old Gothic revival cathedral in the heart of Melbourne. Rich history, and open to the public. Please be respectful and reverent when in the Cathedral and around the building as it is immensely important to Catholics and Christians who use it as a place of worship. It is not a museum.

The history of the dome is a beautiful example of religious one-upmanship. It is a very majestic structure and well worth a visit. Custodians might consider reviewing the quality of the public address system being used, as the orator's overtures are barely intelligible once uttered, as the reverberation amidst the alcoves envelopes every syllable.

The cathedral is simply majestic both from outside and inside, but stepping into the interior was definitely a jaw-dropping and humbling experience. Loved the intrinsic and detailed architecture, with the stained glass and the grand organ. The church has a small garden outside as well with several entrances and visitors are able to enter without any charge. Enjoyed the experience and the moments of stillness within the church, and definitely a must visit if you're a fan of such buildings.

I need to have a look inside this church, since I'm there nearby already. Editing and adding to this review, there is not many visitors in the church, located near government buildings/area, probably. A district that is only favourable to artist and also tourist nowadays. Tourist are enroute to this destination by tram line. Very thoughtful route cause there are gardens beautifully trimmed and landscaped, for a clear bright day... magnificent piece of work.

Certainly the most beautiful and impressive cathedral in Melbourne. In my opinion it cannot compete with the large European cathedrals, they are simply even larger and more impressive. It's still beautiful and worth stopping by if you're sightseeing in Melbourne.

St. Patrick's Cathedral in Melbourne is a beautiful and historic church that is well worth a visit. On my recent visit, I was disappointed that I was unable to enter the cathedral as there was a wedding taking place. However, even from the outside the cathedral is impressive and the architecture is stunning. The cathedral is beautifully adorned with intricate details and the stained glass windows are breathtaking. The surrounding grounds are also lovely and provide a peaceful setting. I can only imagine how beautiful the inside is. I would recommend checking the schedule before visiting, and to be considerate when there's a wedding or other service taking place. Despite not being able to enter, it's still a beautiful landmark to visit in Melbourne and a great representation of the gothic architecture.

(Translated by Google) Here are my impressions when I came to 2017. I came by tram, but I was able to find it easily, not far from the stop. You can take a picture of this if it is not commercial. Especially the stained glass inside is a must-see. There are no toilets, so it's hard to come on weekends and holidays. All the cafes in the surrounding area were closed, so it was the toilet of the hospital that rushed in.

An amazingly beautiful church with masterpiece architectures. If you pay close attention, even the smallest details will surprise you, each edges and corners of the windows, each pole, when you look up, the roof, the organ... Don't let the case of Cardinal Pell lure you away from the beautiful things of this place.

I first noticed the cathedral when walking around Fitzroy Gardens. I ended up going in to take a look around. The cathedral is fairly big with plenty of seating. I really like the fact there were many side altars for different saints and occasions. Each altar had a place to kneel so you could pray. The area around the church is massive and has plenty of statues of different saints and other religious figures. It is a nice place to walk around and just ponder about things.
