Definitely worth the drive. Food was great in the cafe onsite, although it can get busy and recommend making a booking. We were lucky as they just managed to squeeze us in. It is a little hilly down to the main area, but it's not a long walk.

One of the most beautiful place in Melbourne. I can’t believe that I just know this place recently! All of the buildings are magnificent, feels like I’m in Europe with a bit of Harry Potter vibes. I’m not saying it has the best access for pram but it’s definitely a must place to visit, very picturesque!

This Montsalvat is a must visit place in Melbourne. It's 20 minutes drive from city. This art village is so different and gives a different vibe. And you can spot peacocks too. It's full of natural beauty and architectural follies. It feels like you are gonna enter to a different world.

A beautiful place to visit for a day trip! Good value. Can't believe there's a place like this in Melbourne not a great distance from CBD. Definitely has got a Middle Ages vibe. I'm not much of an art person so won't comment on that, but the scenery is worth the visit.

The French spirit at Montsalvat looks like it is still alive. The place represents the French villages back in ages by the creator artist. The "Saved Mountant" is a place where you can find houses, halls, art studios, and galleries. In present a lot of gatherings, weddings are on as the place is historic and attractive for many people. However, it is a cultural depiction that must visit it and enjoy the surroundings.

What a wonderful way to have an escape from the city, without having to go too far. Felt like we were holidaying in France. Make sure you have plenty of time to explore or sit and ponder.

Good experience. The artwork was not bad, that mechanical rabbit one right at the start was creepy but cool and liked the paintings of the owner hung around the great hall. The whole area around the pool and great hall was my favourite prettiest areas...that dining hall room reminded me of something out of beauty and the beast! The grounds are quite big and the chapel was pretty too.

It's like visiting Downton Abbey and Hogwarts. An amazing grounds filled with fantastic artwork. It's like visiting a castle from your favourite childhood fairytale. We visited for afternoon tea and wondered around the gardens. It will be amazing soon when there's a few more flowers in bloom.

Entry fee is 16$. Nice place to visit the old building, art exhibit. Lot of car parking in front. A cafe inside, but lil expensive. You can walk around and explore the buildings. Loved the experience.

Nice place to visit and explore various buildings and exhibits.. Entrance is approx $16 and includes visit to all exhibits which display work from different artists (on exhibit). These exhibits are in different buildings that you can explore at your leisure. There is also a cafe within the grounds. Plenty of parking as well...

A truly breathtaking wonderland harbouring new and old art collections. The expansive European architecture poses as the perfect backdrop for music events, as sections of the terrain, act as natural amphitheatres. I hope "Where The Wild Things Are", makes an annual return to it's new home in Montsalvat. Get it on your bucket list.

Montasalvat became my favourite place over 25 yrs ago. The world stops as soon as you enter the place, the positive energy flows upon you, art speaks to you and you get immersed in the history of the place. Love love love it

This place is so magical and it was lovely on a warm spring day with flowers blooming everywhere. You feel like you are deep in an ancient European city. A delight. Unfortunately, the cafe closes their kitchen far earlier than it says on the website and they didn’t call back when I made attempts to book over the phone, sadly the only booking option. That area doesn’t deserve 5 stars.

Throw JK Rowling and Peter Jacksons heads together and this is what you get. But since it predates both of their work by a margin, this is the real deal. Incredible arts centre, venue and more and always a treat to be on the grounds.

Absolutely gorgeous place, yet creates a sense of overwhelming despair, walking around and seeing all the wonderful buildings in such a state of disrepair. Where is the funding for maintaining this historically significant site?!

Pokey 'free gallery' in the insipid entry hall leads to unfriendly notices about extraordinary charges and ridiculous conditions on allowed photos. Café was booked out and unavailable. Had lovely memories of this place but it's now rubbish. Head to Heidi instead of you'd like an experience that won't leave a sour taste.

This must be one of my favourite places, the grounds have such a peaceful atmosphere, possibly because of the years of artists’ contemplation . Love the peacocks, chickens and vegetable gardens 💗The cafe is excellent as well.

Such a delightful place, perfect for a relaxing walk with plenty to explore - the garden, art galleries, gift shop, the cafe to grab a drink and rest afterwards. Very reasonable entry fee. It has old world vibes, some parts are reminiscent of Italy, others - of the UK. So lucky to have this charming spot in Melbourne.

Montsalvat is something!!! This is a place that all of age groups can visit. Europeans architecture, art, cafe, beautiful gardens, birds, an old church, a dining hall that can accommodate 100 guests, a beer garden with a pool. This place has it all. There is a lot to learn about Art. Only about 30 mins from CBD this can be a perfect day/half trip. A perfect idea for a casual date, family/friends day out. The cafe makes it icing on the cake.

Absolutely stunning place! Gorgeous late medieval style buildings with cool art work inside and beautiful grounds around. Must see when in Melbourne! 1 star minus for the restaurant though. Beautiful venue as well with decent food but bit pricey for the amount of food you get for your money. A lot of tables were full with plates and glasses as well as servers kept running around without actually clearing any tables, even though they weren't carrying anything else.

Such a beautiful place to visit and I imagine would be stunning in the Autumn too with all the colours of the trees. Montsalvat is like being in another world, another country even. If you haven’t been it’s definitely worth the visit and the fact that it’s only a 25/30min drive (depending on traffic) from Melbourne makes it a must!

Rip-off! Was told that because I wanted to take pictures using something more than an iPhone I should be directed to Mont Salvat's business manager to set whatever additional professional photography fee he or she decides on a whim should be charged. I backed out of the place and won't be back.

Beautiful place to spend a day. Plenty of art to engage with. With several different galleries around the premises there's something for everyone. Came here on a bit of a wet Winters day, which gave the grounds a very moody atmosphere. Montsalvat is gorgeous in all weather, and I'd love to come back during the warmer months for a totally different experience.

Montsalvat is a magical enchanting place to visit. Its like stepping back in time . Buildings and galleries built with the feel of yesteryear. Paintings ,sculptures, gargoyles, leadlight windows and peacocks in the beautiful gardens. Frogs in the pond , Geese roaming . A wonderful place to explore and delight . Once you have experienced Montsalvat you will be under its spell and its charm will call you again & again .

Had "brunch" here. Went with the corn fritters! Didn't disappoint. Was absolutely delicious. The old buildings were very cool, I like the bricks actually. They go vertical AND horizontal 😲 The paintings weren't really my cup of tea, but art is like that. You like some, you don't like some. Seems a lovely place if you're getting married. The photos were stunning of other weddings that have been there.

Great local mediaeval treat only a stone throw from Eltham main road. Local gardens and Gothic style build, it's frequently visited by couples planning a wedding, families enjoying the gardens and beautiful buildings and artists drawing the local sights There is an onsite restaurant with spacious outdoor and indoor dining options. A true gem of Eltham with some history of the bohemian artists of old.

Didn’t start well. We had a ticket valid from 2-4pm, the cafe closed at 3pm. We were then told there was no-where onsite to get a drink of water (for our two year old) and we would have to drive elsewhere to get some ‘water’. Rests entirely on the quality of the old buildings and the lawns. The art is like a stuffy museum. Go to NGV for free and then walk across to the botanical gardens, no need to drive out of the city for this place. We ignored their ridiculous camera policies and used our Sony a7 as payback for making our daughter go thirsty. I guess they didn’t get the memo that new iPhones (allowed) are as good if not better then ordinary cameras like DLSRs (not allowed).

Beautiful old buildings in a picturesque setting. This place looks amazing, it's quite large and there's lots to do here. They have several artwork exhibitions and the old church and other buildings are amazing. It's like stepping back in time when you visit. I would recommend this place, the only negative was that you can only use your phone to take photos. I had to leave the DSLR in the car. Still worth checking out though. Beautiful grounds and heritage buildings, art galleries, art studios and lovely gardens spread across a large portion of land in Eltham. Used to be an artist's colony. I have been here several times, most recently for their Mad Hatter's high tea, but previously for a wedding, to film some movies, to visit an art exhibition and for a Midsummer event.

The food was very average and very small portions notwithstanding all of our meals arriving cold. Service was slow and got our drink orders wrong and these also arrived when our meals were just about finished. Pricing was ridiculous at $190 for mains the size of entrees, served cold really a poor experience. We went to Melissa’s Cakes after since we were all still hungry. First and last visit. The only positive is that the grounds are beautiful with old buildings to admire but that’s it.
