My family & I have been holidaying in Rossnowlagh from Scotland numerous times every year for over 40years, sometimes during the summer months, but most often in October and February. Prior to Covid we would visit the Sandhouse Hotel most evenings to eat & drink, relax and enjoy the hotel & surroundings. Covid has now passed but the hotel now has a policy of welcoming residents only and the hotel is locked and unavailable to non residents. The new buzzer entry system is offputting and impersonal and it is now not possible to talk to a member of staff face to face. Given that the hotel was the only local facility available outside the summer season it leaves visitors no options to eat/drink for most of the week during low season. We are astounded that a business such as the Sandhouse Hotel can function satisfactorily whilst actively discouraging potential customers from spending their money and making appropriate use of the services available. This is one group of disappointed ex customers. We will be watching with interest for any changes in the future. Can I ask why I didn't get a reply to this review?

Called in here while working on a site nearby to ask about accommodation for my next trip in a few weeks. Apart from the very off putting "ring to gain entry and explain your reason for needing in" system, which seems unnecessary in a back of beyond place like Rossnowlagh, the receptionist looked at me like I was dirt just because I was in work clothes. She was really dry and seemed reluctant to give any detail about prices when asked, it was like a "Pretty Woman" moment! 🀣 She appeared to judge my status on the fact I was in work gear. It was very unwelcoming and, in spite of the fact I am well enough off to spend a month in their hotel, I will never be back!

Lovely hotel, nice facilities surrounding, spectacular views. Nice bars and comfortable sofas. Large room comfortable bed and quality furniture. Good prices. Breakfast was okay. Porridge was a bit rubbery floating on a pool of water, brown sauce was congealed. Didn't have potato bread.

Just returned from the most wonderful stay at the Sandhouse Hotel. This is truly a hidden gem in Donegal. From the outset the whole trip was perfect. If you are looking for a modern stylist hotel then this is not for you. This hotel ouzes classic hotel experience. The foyer was cosy and welcoming, the lady at reception was extremely pleasant and helpful. I love that this hotel has almost, like a maze style of corridors and bedrooms, it brought me back to being a child visiting old hotels. The hotel is spotless clean. Our room was very spacious and boutique style with a beautiful 4 poster bed. Checked in after dark and to wake up to those breathtaking views in the morning was an extra treat. The meal was outstanding, the staff, the service, all top class. The attention to detail throughout this hotel is second to none. Beautiful rooms and alcoves throughout to sit and unwind with friends. Every seat was comfortable and inviting. The staff were exceptional, all genuine smiles and seemed happy in their work. The pillows were even amazing. Breakfast with the panoramic views from Mullaghmore to St John’s point, even on a hazy morning were certainly worth a lonely planet 5 star rating. The breakfast both food and service again were of top high class standards. This hotel is a credit to Paul and his wonderful team. I am only sorry it took me so long to discover it but I most definitely with be returning and recommending to friends and family alike. Keep up the good work and look forward to returning again in the future.

Most wonderful spa treatment with talented and passionate therapist Noreen, can't even express how amazing she is. Calm, gentle and soothing. As well Voya products used during therapies are divine πŸ•ŠοΈβ€οΈ

Warm, welcoming, cosy, beautiful spacious rooms on top of the beach, delicious food and cocktails and lovely pleasant, caring and helpful staff. Didn't get a chance to try the Spa but will definitely be back. Thank you to Paul and his amazing team for everything. Just Perfect

Just returned from Ireland! Stayed at The Sandhouse Hotel for two nights. I would probably stay here again but mainly for the view and location. We had a beach front room with a gorgeous view and close proximity to a little outdoor sitting area. If we did not have that view, we would have been much less satisfied. There was an odd intermittent smell, something close to burning crayons?? And nearly every hallway table had a room scent reed diffuser...not everyone enjoys strong odors in every room! The place has a lot of "character", as I think it has been around for a while. Lots of old, possibly antique furniture, which was actually pretty neat, but also lots of loud, creaky floors, creaky beds and stained carpets. They do offer a send out laundry service but said they could not give any pricing as it depends on what and how many pieces need to be laundered and what they need done. So you wouldn't know the cost until you got your clothes back...um, no thanks. The bathroom has literally nowhere to put any kind of travel or cosmetic case, nor any shelf in the shower, but this was fairly common throughout the trip. There was a maybe 4" wide shelf. I could not, despite a lot of effort, figure out how to adjust the shower temp. The staff were super friendly at breakfast. We did do a seaweed bath at the spa. The staff there were also super informative and nice. Edited to add: There is an intercom system to enter the place. Have to press a buzzer, they check you out via video camera at the desk and then buzz you in. Now I did not ask the history of what lead to needing a system like this. Nothing else in the area seemed sketchy or concerning crime-wise, but that did give me pause as to why it was necessary.

Very quiet beach town. Super friendly and attentive staff. The room was wonderful the only real issue was balancing the heating in the room. The place could use a good dusting. Lots of spider webs hanging around the place. Since it's a tiny area I had two wonderful dinners at the hotel. Waking up and looking straight out on the beach was great.

We enjoyed our stay- lovely room and the food was delicious. Little things like the temperature of the room in the morning was a cool 18C and water leaking from the shower took a little bit of comfort away. I think we had a higher expectation considering the price we paid. But all in all a nice stay.

Terrible treatment of my mother who is in a wheelchair. Completely humiliated and embarrassed her after she was unable to enter the restaurant after they told her they would get her a table sorted for 8pm when they booked it at 2pm. They offer her a table up some steps. She's in a wheelchair . Instead of apologising they turned all blame on her and my father when we rang to complain. Said they never knew she was in a wheelchair even though she was booked into a disabled room and arrived in a chair. They had stayed before and were able to eat in the restaurant then. Bad management and communication between staff who should have gone and found a solution. Not to be told to go eat in the bar after getting dressed up for a restaurant and reducing my mother to tears from the embarrassement of it all.

Tremendous hotel - right on the water with ocean views. Great, friendly service, comfortable rooms, good food - where they responded unhesitantly to my special dietary needs. Quaint atmosphere - with accommodating community rooms. Didn't avail myself of the spa, but one available.

The hotel itself is in the most spectacular place with views of the Atlantic from the rooms and the restaurant. The staff were absolutely amazing, there is a real family feeling in the hotel it feels like the team are all really happy to be there and are really friendly. The food in the restaurant was super tasty with lots of options and an excellent menu. I had a treatment in the marine suites with Noreen and it was just incredible the Voya products were beautiful and all the team were lovely and welcoming. Highly recommend the treatments in the marine suites

Everything about this hotel is just fabulous. From the warm welcome, to the exceptional customer service, to the most divine food and the comfy beds - there isn't one negative thing about the place. Just 2 mins walk from Rossnowlagh beach, it still is my favourite hotel for all of the above reasons. Cannot wait to go back. A special shout out to chef - they definitely know how to cook 😍

We wished we could have stayed longer than 1 night. The room was perfect for us, overlooking the ocean. It was fun to watch the surfers & the kite surfers. We also had dinner at the restaurant, with the same ocean front view watching the sun set. The food was very good. I had lamb rump, so tender and tasty, and my husband had the sirloin, which he enjoyed. Chocolate orange cheesecake and rhubarb crumble completed a nice meal.

What a great hotel and very friendly and accommodating staff. They have a great covid policy only allowing residents into the hotel. The restaurant was absolutely fantastic with great food and a great view of the beach that was just outside the window.

Full of history, pods outside made from old aeroplanes so you can sit out and watch the waves even if it’s raining. Friendly stay in the surfers bar.

Unfortunately your response is lacking information as I was specifically asked was I resident and when I said no was told by your staff they were only taking bookings from residents..it's just a shame you don't use this forum in a way that's useful to your business....a review can help you improve your service, reputation and increase your customers. Shame really. Thanks for your enlightening response Paul.

The Sandhouse is such a great place to visit. We have stayed over numerous times and loved it so much that we decided to get married there in 20 18. Back for the first time since covid last week and it seems like the food has got even better. Such a brilliant location and friendly staff!
