Don’t ever come to this place again, they can’t help but keep on asking for more tests, ultrasound with no findings on the actual problem of your beloved companion, keep on spending more and more money if you have lots and doesn’t care! My dog Sugar discharged from VSH Kowloon on April 3rd after spending $70000 and passed away the same day after the surgery from another hospital, before the surgery the Vet told me survival rate is only 10-20% but as the owner I want to try every possible way to save her life! My dog was referred by East Island Hospital due to after a surgery she’s still having sever pain and regurgitation, so she checked in to VSH Kowloon as an emergency case, we met with the specialist Dr Joshua Steinhaus on March 29 3:30pm, and as the owner of course we try not to have another surgery as she just had one few days ago, the Specialist then said we had to start from scratch let her rest in the hospital for 2 days no special treatment, no food and will review after then, but I bumped into Dr Joshua on the night of the 30th when I visited Sugar to see how she was and I asked Dr Joshua how she was, he said she was ok but I said tonight is the 2nd night already what are we going to do and on March 31st was Dr Joshua’s day off, he said not to worry, she’s stable only need to watch Sodium and Electrolyte, just give another day! On March 31st there was no phone call from VSH as usual to report the situation of Sugar and I waited until 1pm to call and chase, they called back and said she’s stable! On April 1st morning VSH called and said Sugar’s situation is not so good and Dr Joshua wanted to see me at 3:30pm, and in the afternoon he showed me the blood work of Sugar was the worse results ever!!!!!! And I have been waiting for 3 1/2 days, not 2 days and everyday counts when it is emergency! My impression was if we can wait for a few days that means she’s not so ill, at least not life threatening, right? She checked in as Emergency but treated like normal patients! After that Dr Joshua suggested to have the endoscope to see what happened inside her and give Plasma Transfusion which I agreed as she seemed very weak to me, in the evening around 7 pm VSH called and said the camera cannot get thru to the intestines so suggested the surgery and my response was not having the surgery now because she is so weak that she might not be able to get thru, let’s give her the Plasma transfusion first which Dr Joshua also agreed! April 2nd when VSH called to report Sugar’s situation and seeing her I was really worried, they kept saying she had diarrhoea but actually it was incontinence and this shows she’s really very very sick! I have no choice as all the specialists are off and I had to find other Vet to help, that’s why I discharge her on April 3rd, paying almost $70000 for nothing just keep waiting! But most importantly a life was lost............. 2021/6/21 updates- After numerous discussions I requested VSH to apologise for their delay in treating Sugar and compensation, they came up with a suggestion to donate in the name of Sugar to some animal charities which I agreed but they came back and said the donation amount is HKD5000 to HKSPCA which I disagreed as the amount was far too small, not even to cover 1 night of staying at VSH, and they also not admitted they did anything wrong which made me feel annoying, if she could have been treated on a timely manner after or within that 48 hours her life could have been saved, what is the purpose of sending her to a specialised hospital? If only giving her supportive treatment I would rather she stayed home and we can all spend the last moments with her, what is a hospital is supposed to do is to try their utmost to save lives, with such an attitude of a hospital who would dare to go, not to mention the huge fees you have to bear! As of today’s date VSH has not been contacted for 2 weeks after my rejection on the $5000 donation!

My dog, Jiro, was suffering from cerebral edema earlier this year. Although he finally succumbed to the disease, VSH was very diligent and professional during his stay there. They were transparent and open in explaining to us all the diagnostics, treatment options and costs involved. A very big shout out to his attending neurologist Dr Jeanie and nurse Vienne who displayed sympathy and compassion, and went out of their way to provide Jiro with the utmost care. I even received a heart-warming and extremely thoughtful memorabilia of Jiro weeks after his passing. Simply put, Jiro could not have been in better hands during his last days. 🙏🏼

Reasons why I would not bring my pet to VSH: 1. Poor communication between members of staff within VSH and with pet owners - zero follow up procedures e.g. Dr J went on leave immediately after performing tests on my pet and did not explain results or provide next steps whatsoever. We were told by reception staff nothing can be done until he returns from holiday 2 weeks later 2. Fail to maintain professional standards you would expect "one of the top" vet hospitals in Hong Kong would have 3. Lack of empathy in staff - makes it extremely difficult to trust them with my pet

I brought my dog there last thur as my dog suddenly was breathing very slow. Dr. Kim Beaulieu said she couldn't see anything wrong with my dog and cited there could be "101 reasons" why he is behaving like that and "animals do not talk". She suggested painkillers. Before prescribing painkillers, she suggested my dog should do blood test to check if his organs can take the painkillers. Half body blood test is $1450, full body blood test is $2500. I went for half body blood test. Results came out, shows that everything was "normal" except his heart beat was very low(around 60). She concluded to put my dog on painkillers for 5 days "to observe". Condition didnt get better at night and following morning I brought my dog to Easter Hospital which the doctor immediately dianogse my dog is breathing so slow as there are fluid blocking his chest. Doctor said it is a very critical situation and that actions must be taken IMMEDIATELY to release the fluid otherwise he will die. So a needle was poked thru his chest to release the excessive fluid(which was a huge can of blood!!). After that his breathing resumed normal, which we proceed to do further check to find out the real cause. I put my dog to sleep the next day, only to realized his condition is terminal. I posted on social media and received many other similiar cases from others who have similiar experience at VSH. Doing non-stop tests and not able to find out the causes of the problems. One of my friend DM me and told me she spent HK$75,000(3 days) and doctor couldnt find out the issues. In your own words Dr Kim Elise Beaulieu : OF COURSE I know "animals can't talk", otherwise why do I come looking for professional advice?!

This vet takes advantage of the vulnerability and helplessness of any pets’ owner, zero transparency during the assessment process, my dog was taken away from the moment I walked in to the vet, purposefully overpriced, we’ve done a bunch of tests which turned out to be unnecessary and has zero additional value to the diagnosis, and they would push you to do more tests, because they ‘couldn’t find the cause’ yet. The worst thing was that they suggested surgery immediately and made appointment on the day after while my dog is not in any clinical emergency, when I said on the phone I wanted to think about it, they still tried to push me to go to the consultation again without telling me there would be another grand for the ‘consultation’ until I asked and refused again, the nurse hung up on me with the worst attitude, the aggression was outrageous, she was even being sarcastic saying: chill, I am not asking your pet to receive surgery right away I am just asking you to see the doctor again, as if she works for the worst money hungry company and she has a sales target to chase, tell me if it’s not a scam then what it is, I beg of any pet owner please DO NOT go to this vet, even any mediocre vet would do better than this cruelty, PLEASE STAY AWAY

There are two parts to this review. First, fantastic care of your pet. I would not hesitate to bring my pet here again. It’s a good animal hospital. The care is high standard and very good. Thank you But I think they have lost their way a bit. unbelievably money hungry! Never before experienced this kind of approach. Quite demanding and make you pay up front worst case scenario before you can see your pet. In my case $37,000. They frame is as it’s worst case and you will get a refund if not needed. Sure you think. But when it comes time for the refund, they say yes no problem, will take 4-6 weeks to be refunded!!!! I repeat, 4-6 weeks although the upfront payment is immediate. Buyer beware of this. Two polo opposites. Beautiful care for your pet Not very customer focused for the pet owner I don’t mind paying but it can be approached differently and the refund should be immediate to be fair and reasonable for all

Ended up even more traumatised then my dog after using them. Over priced, no world class service to match the prices and being seen to be money grabbing. The business model is wrong and not sustainable. It won’t be recommended to others unless things change and we work in the media. Yes they are transparent with the fees but at which point you are already invested and have no options. 1. People come here already distressed so treat them nicely the moment they walk through the door until they leave. It’s just empty rooms and rude counter staff. Vets are nice but for the amount I would expect nothing less 2. Don’t ask your customers if they have insurance at the onset. They will tell you. It makes them feel like you are going to milk it which you do - be happy to post my invoice if required. Should have seen that red flag 3. Give them world class treatment and updates if you are going to charge a premium - don’t make them chase you or have to wait. Don’t treat customers as a transaction or a one off. Even tried to convince me to let my dog stay another night after saying he was stable 4. Did I say the counter staff were rude. I will say it again - I repeatedly asked them if my dog was ready for pick up. First they said sorry I was early for my appointment (I wasn’t). They then ignored me and then they laughed and giggled when I walked away. When I told the vets this they looked surprised but later said they had heard. Then I go out and get hit by another 7k bill for medication. I just forgave my old vet and will be going to them again. Read all the reviews before you visit.

Very bad experience with VSH - shocking and very surprised as I had a lot of hope on them given my friend review was good. But sadly my animal was even more sick after admitted to VSH and vet and nurse were complete clueless (or simply hiding the fact) about the reasons. My last experience also less than ideal but I gave benefit of doubt to them, this time even worse and almost kill my baby, I’m afraid people need to know premium really doesn’t mean better here.

I was referred by SPCA to this hospital to see a heart specialist for my dog. At first I was told the fee would be $1800 without medication cost. I have waited for a few weeks for this appointment. Before I complain on how they charge with all the hidden fees, I would like to point out that just the day before the appointment, they called me and ORDERED me to complete their questionnaire before arrival. The person who called was very impolite and oppressive just like any other staffs at the hospital. Back to the fees, upon my arrival at 9am in the morning on the day of the appointment, I was slapped with a huge bill of $8000 without medication costs. The staff who was explaining the costs to me was highly impolite and completely unconcerned about the welfare of my dog. At the end I decided to walk out from these disgusting people and search for a different vet because of their poor attitude and unprofessionalism. For anyone who would like to visit this hospital my suggestion to you is don’t. This is just a bunch of money thirsty people whose goal is to make as much money as possible from the pet owners with no real concern on the actual animal whatsoever.

It was the worst experience I have ever had going to a vet. If I can give negative stars, i would give -5. The attitude of the staff were not only unacceptable, it was out right unprofessional, from the receptionists to the vet. None of the staff showed much love and caring attitude towards the animals. Most Importantly, the Vet did not diagnose what was happening to my dog. I understand that it was late at night and it was an emergency, but if they are going to charge me 1500 USD for doing nothing, they should at least "pretend" to pay some attention to my dog. I was there from 11:30 pm to almost 2:30 AM. Hardly anyone spoke to me or asked me much about my dog's emergency. The male nurse was too busy to flirt with the other dog's caretaker to pay any attention to my dog or the sick dog for that matter. And unfortunately, he was the only nurse that can be seen. I took my dog in because he was vomiting blood, when the vet finally saw my dog after we waited for 2 hours, the poor boy vomited more blood. The vet only saw us for less than 5 minutes, and honestly, there were total of 3 animals there while I was waiting to see the vet. I wouldn't say it was crazy busy. The vet did not seem to have much interest at the patients for sure. Overall, I found the experience with VSH disheartening and very unpleasant. They even charge me 150 HKD for filling out the insurance claim form, so probably very unethical as well.

Total disgrace! The lack of communication and empathy at this hospital is beyond words! My dog was left with them to do a CT scan, so we came in the morning already fasting for more than 12 hours. The procedure was said to be carried out early in the afternoon. Have not heard from anyone until almost 7 hours later. I left 5 messages, but not a single person could tell me where my dog was, whether the scan had been done or when was it going to be carried out. I Was told the team was in emergency (which I understand if they had save other dogs lives), and not a single person offered to go and check out on my dog and let me know what is going on. Note at this point, my dog had been going without any water or food for almost 24 hours! And guess what did the doctor say (someone I’m paying $1500 consultant fee) when he finally called back to update me: “I don’t think your dog is going to die if she hasn’t eaten for 24 hours!” All these comments about the rude receptionist and lack of empathy is all true! So true! The only thing they will tell you is: “I’m not sure”. Shame on the owner and practitioners of this rip off hospital! I am in shock how this hospital still even exists! They don’t even deserve one star! Stay away!

I had a very bad experience with VSH. I feel they only care about money and not your pet. I was overseas when my dog became sick and the reception wouldn’t admit my dog or let my helper leave until I was able to sort out their difficult payment system. It was all about the money - And so expensive!!! We spent over 80K for 1 week stay and he was released without any resolution and no instruction notes for follow up. The receptionist also wouldn’t allow my dog and helper to leave until the final invoice was paid. This was disgraceful as we’d already paid 60K and I assured the reception that I would pay the balance as soon as I could. (Same day). My dog was still very unwell and they made him stay in the reception for hours. The stress of my dogs illness and being away from him was made worse by the way VSH behaved. I later complained to the manager of VSH about our experience and was told that ‘it’s like a restaurant- you have to pay before you leave’. And perhaps next time we travel he suggested we could leave a 50K deposit with VSH or Leave 50K cash with my helper. I would never return to VSH and would not recommend to anyone.

Their vets and nurses are professional, and attentive. But their receptionist can be very rude. Most importantly, they are extremely expensive. Make sure you recharge your wallet before you visit them.

Staff and vet were nice and knowledgeable. However the time management should be improved, almost an hour wait for the consultation especially given the price of it. I’m afraid saying “doctor is busy” isn’t enough.

Compliments to the professional vets and nurses. Unfortunately the receptionist pressed for me to sign a waiver to allow VSH to make any decisions for my pet without notifying me, and got in a half hour quarrel for not willing to sign such authorisation.

we were referred by SPCA to go to VSH because they were one of the vets who offered midnight services. This one’s a long one but to make it short I am disappointed with how VSH handled our emergency case. We called VSH in advance to let them know about my dogs situation and we also mentioned that we were on our way to their hospital. When we got to VSH, we had to wait outside the building because the doors were locked, we then called the receptionist again and we were instructed to press the bell button so she could open the door from the floor above (it was an automatic door and it had 2 buttons), not to mention it also took a while for the door to open and my dog was having difficulties breathing. Waiting during those crucial moments just made things even worse especially since our emotions were already running at high levels. It was a horrible experience having to wait OUTSIDE your building especially since it was an emergency. We were expecting your staff to accompany us at the entrance of your hospital as it was obviously urgent but it seemed that there was no urgency at all. Regarding the communication between staff and clients, your staff needs to learn how to effectively communicate because it really affects your clients emotional state especially since I just lost my best friend for 14 years, the way your team communicated with us felt so robotic, there was no clarity as to the possible causes of my dogs death. There was also no sign of empathy at all. After losing my best friend, we were left in a quiet room to grieve while I hold her lifeless body. When your staff checked in with us it was only about payments, paperwork and so on, there was no emotional expression whatsoever. I just hated how we had to wait outside the building, I really wished your staff assisted us into your hospital. The lack of urgency makes me infuriated and somewhat regretful to have let my dog wait even just a few minutes.

Vets and nurses are professional and helpful! They explained my cat's situation, surgery pros and cons clearly. Dr Chow called after surgery to keep me updated. My cat got prompt and proper surgery on his eye, he is recovering well. Appreciated very much Dr Derek Chow and Dr Jonathan's caring and skills. I visited the clinics 4 times and the appointment times were accurate. Overall its a pleasant experience.

If you value the well-being of your pet, do not bring them to this veterinary hospital. Our dog had a TPLO surgery at VSH earlier in the year. To say the nurses and support staff have the bedside manner of Attila the Hun would be an understatement. Upon picking up our drowsy and drugged dog post-op, we were scolded by one nurse for not bringing our own e-collar (!) and informed it would be an additional fee for the clinic to provide one, which was astonishing. When our dog couldn’t get up following the surgery (still under the influence of anaesthetic and painkillers) one of the nurses said it was because she was whiney and lazy. No empathy. Frankly, it seems like half the people working here have no interest in animals, or that they even like them. The staff also prescribed our dog painkillers in the wrong dose, for a dog twice her weight, due to one of the nurses recording her weight incorrectly. Lucky we spotted the mistake. Furthermore, there was little information concerning aftercare or concern for our dog’s wellbeing following the surgery. Nobody will check in with you following the surgery to see how your dog is doing (as has been standard practice at other veterinary clinics we have been to over the years) until your follow up appointment many weeks later. We got our information regarding what to expect with TPLO surgery, healing timeline, exercises and care tips online, in chat forums, and from our pet’s general vet. Dr Alane Cahalane, who performed the surgery, seemed very professional and competent, and said the surgery went well. But 8 months later, our dog has still not fully recovered from TPLO surgery. She limps, and cannot run anymore, even after a lot of physiotherapy and treatments. Walking is often a slow struggle. Her operated leg is turned at a permanent 45 degree angle when she walks and there is a strange popping sound from her leg when she moves. However, there is nobody at VSH to discuss this with because the doctor who performed her surgery is apparently no longer even in HK. If you do need to call and ask a question, staff are evasive, clueless or rude (if you manage to get through to anyone), and will then tell you they will get back to you (whenever that is). We tried to make a follow up appointment to get another x-ray on her leg, but were informed that our dog will be treated as a new patient (with new fees), rather than a follow-up case. This clinic is more concerned with fees than the well-being of animals. I am disappointed and frankly regretful choosing this place for my dog’s TPLO surgery. We are now going to follow-up on our dog’s TPLO issues (and possible further surgery) elsewhere, where they actually prioritise an animal’s well-being.

DO NOT visit this hospital. Why you are suggested to avoid this place: money grabbing + lack of professionalism + rude, pushy attitude My cat swallowed some parts of his foam mat and we went to this hospital only because they are the nearest with night emergency services. Although I gave the receptionist estimated time of arrival, I had to wait for around 1 hour. 1. I was told that my cat was too nervous for them to handle, so they suggested sedative injection just for ultrasound and the injection would cost 800. Hilarious, my cat is by no means timid or aggressive. He is the type of cat who love adventure and could go out for a walk. 2. Professionalism of the doctor (Dr Bosco Yeung) highly questionable: Frankly, he could not offer any diagnosis before we go through ALL possible examinations, including X ray, FAST ultrasound, specialist ultrasound, blood test (because he cannot preclude kidney disease), and then he could figure out some treatment. But from the first start, I told him my cat has consumed foam mat. 3. Extremely indifferent and rude attitude in terms of the medical staff. The doctor is by no means patient, actually pushy indeed. Their first priority is to avoid any potential responsibilities but they fall below the professional standard that pet owners could reasonably expect, especially in view of the price. 4. I was communicating with other vets who are acquaintances of mine. And all of them recommend to observe first, then endoscope, surgery is the last recourse. However, the doctor insisted surgery is the only possible solution. 5. Special note for mandarin speakers: yes, the doctor won’t bother to speak mandarin.

Thanks from the bottom fo my heart. My cat suffer seriously from Diabetic ketoacidosis. Although he just lived one day in VSH and passed away, I know Dr Erik and their team have put all their efforts to help him. During the difficult times , thanks for your treatments, comfort and pray. Dr. Alane had operated on my dog in 2019, she was very professional and informative through and through. She did a FINE JOB on my dog's leg. However, there was a lost in translation between the front desk and the medical team. I was specifically asked to limit my dog's activities after surgery by the front desk, only to find myself being criticized and judged by a nurse due to such instruction on a follow-up session. I was completely speechless, well so to say I will give you the benefit of the doubt, a passion staff at that!
