I have trained at gym 01 for a number of years now, originally looking to improve my fitness, and have now competed in shows and am working towards my next grading. The atmosphere is fantastic, everyone is so friendly and welcoming from the staff and coaches, to the members. There is a huge variety of classes to choose from and even something for the little ones (who always look like they're having the best time)! The coaching is outstanding and everything is well explained/demonstrated. They are always there to help and nothing is too much trouble. There is alot of encouragement to be the best version of you. The gym expands over two floors with high quality equipment, cage and matted areas. In the joining unit, there is a 24 hour gym, again with a great choice of equipment to use. I have been a serial gym joiner in the past, but gym 01 has captivated me from the start and it feels like a second home!

I have been training at Gym01 for over 4 years now. The atmosphere in here is amazing! Everyone is so friendly, welcoming and helpful, as soon as you walk through the door. Both sides of the gym have two floors, as well as a ring and octagon, allowing for so much space to train. It has a wide range of equipment available for you to use. There's a large variety of classes to take part in as well, catering from 4 yrs and upwards. The coaches are very encouraging and supportive to all members in every session. I was extremely well looked after and kept safe while I was pregnant too, I can't wait for my littlin to start Mini ninjas!

I have been a member of Gym01 now for over 5 years and it's honestly the best decision I've ever made. The staff and coaches are incredible, I've found some of my best friends in this place and would even go as far as saying they are my family. Where to begin… It has been such a joy to find a gym that I feel so welcomed and at home in. As a female with no prior martial arts experience, it’s safe to say I was a little nervous when I first entered the gym. The coaches and team members are incredible. They are genuinely invested in you and the atmosphere is like no other. You immediately feel like you’re part of the family. I’ve done a couple of gradings, experienced one to one sessions from various coaches and attended beginners and advance kickboxing classes. Although I can be flakey (due to work and travel), which is accommodated for in the varying membership types, I always seem to find my way back to Gym 01. Keep up the amazing work guys!

I sadly left Gym01 a year ago after relocating, but had to leave a review after hearing about the slanderous reviews from local competitors. The gym is small, but contains EVERYTHING anyone should need to workout and is always quiet enough that you don’t have to wait for equipment. The staff are so lovely and helpful. The community of the gym is one you can feel right away, on a few occasions I’ve had other gym-goers approach me and politely and helpfully correct my form. I only attended classes as a beginner for a few sessions, but the instructors were helpful, friendly, knowledgeable and non-judgmental to those who clearly didn’t have a clue (me). The gym was always clean and well kept. I wish I could still workout here. Keep doing what you’re doing!!

I am not a gym01 member and I’m not best placed to review the gym itself either as it has been many years since I was there in person and I’m sure it has changed. However - I do know 3 of the coaches Brian, Gareth and Colin and have known them all a long time. Anyone on here leaving one star reviews calling the coaches bullies has a separate agenda. These guys have not only built gym01 into what it is now, they also run shock n awe: which is the south coasts most successful and I think probably longest running MMA event. They would not have these things if they were not people of integrity.. they’d have been found out ages ago and bad reviews would already be lodged rather than suddenly coming out of nowhere in the last month. I can say hand on heart that the coaches are absolute professionals devoted to the sport and are martial artists in every sense of the word. Before I moved away from the south coast, I trained with them in gyms that existed before gym01. I know first hand that the relationship they build with their students and the time they invest in them is about ensuring those students can be the best possible version of themselves. There is no way these guys are bullies and the negative review agenda seems to be about tearing their reputation down with lies. Ignore the 1 star reviews! If you want to find out what gym01 is about… speak to the REAL students or contact the gym and speak to the coaches. Even better, go do a trial session…Don’t rely on some of the fake reviews written here! My 5 stars is for the coaches who are 100% the real deal

Absolutely love this gym, such a welcoming place. Being a woman it can be quite overwhelming to join a new gym (especially if it’s a male dominated gym) however there are a lot of woman there to my surprise who are so lovely and friendly. I love how the coach’s treat you all equally. The coach’s are absolutely brilliant and patient. At times I struggled in the class due to being new but they are always willing to help and made sure I understood no matter how many times I needed help in classes! If you’re hesitant in joining this gym (like I was) don’t be. Best thing I did. Can’t wait to bring my little girl when she’s a little older! 😊

I heard about Gym01 after a week of moving to Hampshire due to the reputation they have built and the high level of people they have training there. I'd heard Gym01 had some top fighters, but what I didn't expect to find was some seriously lovely human beings and a great atmosphere, especially for beginners! I have travelled all over the world and trained at some top gyms, but I have never been as welcomed by the community as I have here! No matter your belt level or previous experience, you're treated with respect and really looked after. I travel a long distance every day to train here simply because the coaches are funny, compassionate, and highly skilled at what they do! Thanks for welcoming me to your family!

Not worth the hassle here, the place is run in a bully like manor, it's always the kid in the corner or the different one getting picked on. But hey, this is not my monkey and not my circus so I'll talk about my experience instead. Gym is decently sized and classes are well put together but the coaching is not great and the equipment is mid. place has a kinda funky cheese smell too. won't be coming back. peace...

Amazing gym. Never really been into any other sports but the coaches, other members and vibe have made training kickboxing the best experience. Very beginner friendly and you'll just want to get better every week.

Without doubt the best gym in Pompey.. All coaches and staff are brilliant and make you feel at home straight away! Whether you're a pro fighter or have never touched a boxing glove before you will love this place!! With the 24 hour gym next door to the padded area it's the perfect place to train!!

Incredibly well structured classes, booking systems and amazing coaches. Judgement free zone so no requirement to ever feel anxious about starting a new hobby. The staff are brilliant too, very understanding, caring and happy to assist you with whatever your needs are. 5*****.

Joining Gym 01 was one of the best decisions I've ever made. The instructors have a huge knowledge about martial arts and are always happy to help; the venue is spacious and kept clean; everybody is really friendly and the atmosphere is great. I look forward to every class!

I started training at Gym 01 when I was only 12 while in-between sports after some bullying at my previous hobby. 10 years later Gym 01 has completely changed my life, very proud to say I’m a kickboxing and 121 coach at this gym and I wouldn’t change anything in the last decade. Amazing gym, friendly atmosphere, knowledgeable coaches and a great team everywhere you look.

I joined Gym01 at University for the MMA classes and I was a little hesitant at first. However after my first training session that hesitation quickly washed away. Every member of staff was welcoming and the coaches are extremely patient and honest. They only want the best for their student's improvement and safety at all times. They push you, whilst being understanding. Every member of the gym and staff are incredible, and this has built a supportive community that you will want to be a part of.

Booked in kids for trial session, boxing, to be honest not the best experience. Not greeted didn’t know what was going on as all kids were upstairs told to sit down stairs no seats available sat on floor class finished in a hour didn’t have a clue what the kids did and no one spoke to us afterwards class dispursed didn’t even know who trained them. No value added event don’t think I’ll be returning. No structure.

The best gym in Portsmouth. Was a member between first and second lockdown primarily for weight training. It has everything you need to have a great session and no waiting for equipment. The staff are knowledgable and very helpful. The cleanliness is second to none which was important to me at that time.

I’ve been to a number of gyms over the past few years and even though they were all good none compared to Gym 01. It’s an amazing gym, great atmosphere, very professional with brilliant management and staff. Not only is the coaching excellent, but all coaches are wonderful people, very easy to approach and genuinely love teaching people. Among the people who attend there are no egos with everyone willing to help anyone who needs it. This gym is for everyone whether your thinking of getting fit; building confidence or fighting.

This gym is great! Been coming for a few months now and wanted to upgrade just over the summer, and was expecting some complex process based on past experience. Took 2 minutes. That, on top of the top tier coaching and outstanding, supportive environment they've cultivated makes Gym01 worth every penny.

The best Combat Sports gym ever, Brian and Gareth are very knowledgeable and good coaches, I Highly recommend this gym. They have years of experience and have trained many high level fighters that have fought in The UFC, BAMMA, Cage Rage and Bellator MMA, they have also had many carded ABA boxers, there’s some very good fighters at this gym, the staff are amazing, Jas and Megan are like my best mates and are very accepting people, I love everybody here and I will start coming down everyday again after I sort my personal problems, I love this place. 💙💙💙

For the past decade, I have come on and gone from Portsmouth. Whenever I have had the chance, I have been a member of Gym01. Gym01 boasts an impressive array of classes and top level coaching, catering to individuals of all skill levels. However, what truly distinguishes Gym01 from its counterparts is its size. Spanning two floors, this gym houses expansive matted areas, a boxing ring, an octagon, and traditional gym area elevating it compared to any other fighting gyms I have encountered in the UK.

Amazing and Welcoming! After years of little to no training and working out i was hesitant to sign up to gym that would meet my needs. However after just dropping in to look at Muay Thai sessions i was immediately put at ease with a full run down of all memberships and what would suit me and a tour of the site. There was no pressure and i was signed up to a free trial. Best decision i have ever made and continue to enjoy using the gym and attending martial arts training. All staff are very friendly and willing to help you and the instructors are beyond great. Sign up now it will change your life!

Gym01 is an amazing gym where you instantly feel part of the family. Their top tier coaching helps you learn and excel at a new sport or at fitness in general. I started JiuJitsu having never done any martial arts, and I was able to compete a few months later. The constant support you receive as a member is reflective of their community ethos and this sets them apart from any commercial gym you can find anywhere.

Yesterday was my second beginners kickboxing class and I am loving. Everyone is so welcoming. From the owners, coaches, staff and other members. I will definitely be carrying on once I'm back in Portsmouth full time ☺️🥊

It is one year since I went by myself to a Jiu Jitsu class at Gym01, purely with the intention of helping my son learn the martial art. I was the only girl, and I was completely out of my comfort zone. Everyone was so kind and encouraging and I had the best time! I was hooked! Fast forward a year and I’m training three times a week and I’ve made so many good friends. All the staff and members at Gym01 have been friendly, inclusive and accommodating, particularly with my son! They also welcomed me as a yoga teacher and it’s definitely my favourite class to teach every week! My life is enriched by Gym01, the people and Jiu Jistu and I feel excited as the journey continues!

I never thought I would get in to a martial art. I started going a couple of times a week. The vibe here is so friendly and you feel like a part of a team.I have steadily become more addicted and now end up in this place most days! Best community of a gym hands down!

The greatest place I've ever been. This place changed my life just over 5 years ago. Without Gym01 I wouldn't be who I am today. My physical and mental wellbeing has improved beyond what I ever thought possible and I gave made true friends for life! The coaches and staff all do an incredible job. They are approachable and take time to get to know you and your goals. If you are there for fitness and fun, that's what they will give you. If you want to fight they'll get you there. I’ve been a member of Gym 01 for 12 years (pretty much since it opened) and have never had anything bad to say about it. I’ve been a member for so long for a reason! The owners, management and coaches go above and beyond to give everyone a unique experience to learn martial arts in a fun and engaging way. I’ve previously worked for other gyms for 7 years, and nothing compares to Gym 01 when it comes to member experience, cleanliness, available facilities and coaching.
