Afternoon tea for three We visited on a weekday for afternoon tea, a very generous spread with all sorts of treats! Sandwich selection could be improved and scones were a bit dry. Lovely hot chocolate and the chocolate fondue with dipping fruits and brownies was delicious! Our server was new and we had to ask for a few things but nothing was too much trouble for them and they were really friendly. Lovely view of the sea, overall probably one of the best afternoon teas available on the Island and excellent value.

The hotel was clean and central. Walking distance to centre. The room was a fair size and the bathrooms were well appointed and clean! The only issue for me was the room and the breakfast itself was average. However that being stated the staff were helpful and accommodating. Notes for a first time visit to the Isle of Man, it's almost always raining so pack a raincoat! No need for a car, you can walk to most places and there are more than enough cabs around.

In the heart of the promenade with 16 hours free parking with a Parking disc per 24 hours. The Automatic door at the ground floor entrance didn't work and was representative of what was to come. It's clear that staffing levels are not right with those working the restaurant overworked including the hotel manager. Breakfast was solid. I will let the photo attached sum up how this hotel works (room 609).. I suspect the owners are screwing it down.

We stayed at the Empress Hotel for 5 nights. It was our second stay at the Empress. The last visit was a few years ago. On arrival at the Empress we noticed that the hotel had had a makeover. The public areas looked even better than I remembered it. One of the things I like about the Empress is the beautiful conservatory which looks out onto Douglas Bay. The room we had was bright, fresh and clean. The beds were amazing. I had the best 5 nights sleep since the beginning of the pandemic. The breakfast was hearty and of very good quality. There was a good choice for all. My friend had the Manx Kippers 5 days in a row as there were so good. The evening menu in the Brasserie offered something for everyone. We ate there three nights and we couldn’t fault the quality and standard of the food. Excellent choice for a Sunday evening meal when most restaurants in Douglas are shut. We had an excellent stay at the Empress and are already thinking of coming back before the year end. We also noticed that the Empress Hotel has recently been awarded a Four star rating. Totally well deserved!!

Great location on Douglas promenade. Wonderful sea view. Hotel staff helpful. Breakfast room needs a face lift. Allowed us to park the motorbike out side. Any issues quickly resolved. Made for a great stay. I'm sure we will be back.

Had a lovely 3 night stay here for a scooter weekend/rally. Our room was, only small but adequate. Clean and nicely decorated. Was serviced each day but 2 lovely ladies who worked their socks off. Breakfast was lovely. Bar staff and reception staff very attentive. Would recommend this hotel

This is a nice little hotel. I think if you get a room with a sea view it would be really nice, however I ended up with one of the internal rooms, which was very small and looked out on to other windows. It was very poor value for money for what it was. I would only stay here in one of the seaview rooms if you are thinking of it. The breakfast was good, with a reasonable selection and the location is quite central to the promenade. Overall it was fine for the weekend, just a shame the room was so tiny for what it cost.

Lovely, if rather small, room. Very clean. Supplied with all the tea, coffee, etc that you could wish for. Lovely and warm room. The water was lovely and hot too.

First time visit to I of M, had a great time, everything from the ferry crossing to the hotel accommodation to our chosen day trips were excellent, The staff in all departments of the hotel were professional, courteous and helpful. The breakfast had a great selection and a few options to cook to order. We had dinner in the hotel on two evenings, the food was excellent, both filling and tasty, and well presented. They do have some entertainment on in the hotel on selected evenings, which was OK, they do have tribute acts due to show at the hotel throughout the year 2023 & 2024. Looking forward to our next visit

Lots of steps and stairs starting at entrance and continued inside. Friendly service and staff. Plenty of seating areas. Has a piano bar but too loud for me. Nice views in conservatory but uncomfortable chairs. Room was okay but hot. Breakfast was good. Room service good but details like not all required cutlery or napkins missing. All a bit mish mash. Hotel needs badly investment and bringing into the modern age. Could be so much better in this fab location right on the promenade by the beach. Has nice looking restaurant but not tried.

Superb 4 night stay. We booked a sea view suite and weren't disappointed. The room was big and well fitted out, serviced every day to a high standard. The breakfasts were excellent, everything cooked to perfection and service was second to none (special thanks to Margo for her help). Only downside is no on site parking, which we knew when we booked and the weather could have been better but I assume the hotel can't make everything perfect 😂. Thanks to all concerned, we had a great stay and will be back.

I visited the IoM and stayed at this hotel around 15 years ago and I recently returned, now that we have kids, and it was as lovely as I remembered it to be. The room we had was had a sea view and was big and comfortable. The breakfast was very good with full English buffet with the option to order Manx kippers, which I did every morning. The Brasserie is lovely especially in the conservatory part with plenty of natural lighting and the food was also very good. There was a pianist in the evenings performing in the bar and restaurant area. He was very talented and quite sociable. Finally the staff were very friendly and helpful and there was nothing to fault with the whole stay. We'll be back again no doubt.

Very comfortable, friendly staff, great food. It was hard to make conversation in the bar and restaurant due to loud volume when piano being played. The music was generally very good, just needed to be a bit less volume.

We spent 8 nights at home away from home in the Balmoral Suite. Everything was great. Buffet breakfast every morning was very good. Lots of hot and cold choices and some special order items including kippers. A couple of days we had a late lunch in the piano bar. Good location within walking distance of everything in Douglas. The bus that passes out front will take you everywhere on IOM. Great getaway spot. The internet is not very speedy but it is adequate.

Stayed in a single room for two nights while visiting Isle of Man for a choir festival with fellow choristers. The room was small and fairly dark with a view of another wall but it was clean and well equipped. It had been refurbished recently which made it cosy and pleasant. The bed and bedding was perfect. I felt very comfortable and safe there as a woman in a room on my own. The bar area is lovely and stylish with a nice relaxed atmosphere. We ate there on the Sunday evening and the food was good with reasonable prices. The breakfast was nice with a good choice but a bit chaotic on the Sunday as the hotel was obviously full and most people came down at once. On the Monday we came down early as we had an early flight and not all the food was available because they were still putting the food out so we just had fruit and toast. The thing I will remember about this hotel was the staff, who really tried hard and were so helpful, especially the Bulgarian lady on reception and the French (?) lady in the bar. One gripe: my room was ready in the morning when we arrived early but I had to pay £20 if I wanted to access it. Just annoying for the sake of £20. That should be a good will gesture in my opinion. All in all, lovely, good value hotel in a great location and would definitely stay again. Thank you!

Excellent location on the promenade. No hotel parking, so you’ll need to do your best with the street parking and its restrictions. We had to park a 5 minute walk away several days. We had booked 15 nights but were assigned a tiny double room. Many thanks to Hannah for moving us to a bigger room. Great customer service. Breakfast is included and terrific for vegetarians; porridge to order, plus veggie sausages, hash browns, beans and toast. Coffee quality not so good, and breakfast service very hit and miss: the girls were generally good, but one chap in particular was out of his depth. Rooms were pretty quiet, comfortable and serviced decently each day. Bar is pleasant, with a pianist once or twice a week. For the price, this is a very good hotel.

Lovely hotel, great bar area when you can just sit without any pressure to buy a drink. Breakfast is great with very friendly staff. The hotel is in a lovely position only 5 min walk to town. Much better feel than the usual chains.

Great location, remember to grab a parking disc as you’re going to need that. Rooms are clean and comfortable with a great shower, no bath in my room 212. Food here is out of this world, congratulations to the chief. Staff are polite and very helpful. Piano beautifully played during the evening meal was a nice touch (not every evening) book this hotel, kickback and relax.

Great location on Douglas promenade. Warm welcome on arrival and friendly staff in all areas. Room(609) we stayed in was double with sea view and walkin shower, room was clean and everything needed for our stay. Breakfast well presented and offered cereals, juices, fruit, croissants, danishes, toast and good old full English option. Other options available on request was porridge, boiled eggs and Manx kippers. Hotel has piano bar area where hot food and snacks are available and also a restaurant which needs to be booked. Would recommend this hotel on experience we had and would stay here again.

Good priced hotel on the promenade overlooking Douglas Bay. Very short walk to good restaurants, bars and shopping. Staff were helpful. Room was clean, well looked after and comfortable. Good value. Would recommend

Wasn't sure what to expect, don't usually stay in hotels as big as this, but was very pleasantly surprised. The staff was polite and attentive, the evening meal we had was excellent and good value, the furnishings and decor was excellent, the room whilst not being large was perfectly adequate. Two small negatives, even though there was a lift there were stairs to climb once out of the lift to the room, and the pianist in the bar/dining area was way too loud. Conversation was difficult when he was playing, surely this should have been background music.

The hotel is charming and depending on your room, some excellent views. I had a single room and it was tucked around the side of the building with no view. However the room was clean and the bed was exceptionally comfortable. I was there for a wedding and the reception was at the hotel, my gripe was when I went into the main hotel bar, even though I was staying I'm the hotel I was rudely told I would not be served and had to use the bar in the wedding party area. This was said loud and people looked over, I felt like I had committed a heinous crime. However that aside it is a good hotel. Location is lovely bud no parking at the hotel.

We were lucky to have the sea view of our hotel room. Breakfast was tasty and plenty of choices. Our room was great and clean and we were spoilt to have a few towels decoration by the housekeeping especially with it being my birthday. Had a couple of evenings meal on the bar side which was adequate for our needs. Thank you

I mean, the picture says it all doesn’t it. What a great stay we just had in the Empress Hotel. It’s impressive entrance was a sign of things to come. The service is with a smile, and the rooms are great value for money. It is positioned a stones throw away from the night life - which is great by the way if you’re into that. The cleaners do a great job every day and I walked in to a lovely towel elephant with my sunglasses (which were left on the floor). Fantastic effort. Many thanks for the memories!

We, my dear wife and I thought that this hotel was very good as far as the fixtures and fittings went, the bar was good too. We did however have resurvations about the food, breakfast was very good and varied but not hot and the quality and quantity was there. We we're on a coach tour and had dinner, this didn't live up to expectations, looked good on paper, but it didn't transfer to the plate. Also vegetable selection was limited.

While the room and food were good, management needs to give more attention to details. The gym was half in ruin and the machines need lube and oil. The sauna not working. No menu in the room or any other useful details.

Nice, clean rooms and lovely staff. There’s a sign by the piano in the ‘piano bar’ (as it’s named in the lift menu) that says no one’s allowed to play, which I found to be rather odd. It’s clearly a beautiful instrument and it’s a shame it’s left neglected and untuned. It deserves to be more than an overpriced decoration. The very sweet (and clearly new) receptionist suggested I played anyway when I asked her about it, despite the sign (the lounge was empty and it wasn’t hurting anyone). Later on, I felt quite bad when the manager (i assume) reprimanded her about letting me do this....this aside, I had a great experience at the Empress Hotel and would stay here again....P.S. I felt a definite spark between me and the aforementioned receptionist. I don’t know your name, but If this review reaches you, please find me on social media :)

We didn't stay in the hotel but we had food in the bar. The menu is good and reasonable. But the service wasn't good due to the fact that the place seemed short-staffed. Pianist playing the piano was good. Nice glass area at the front of the hotel.

The Empress hotel has great location on the promenade, with beautiful sea views. But the hotel is tired and needs some investment & general TLC. Room noise is poor between floors, we were woken each night of our stay. Breakfast food is basic but hot & nice (so long as you want a full English). Bedding & towels were clean. Overall decidedly average.

Comfortable place. Package holiday - rooms very comfortable & bijou. Everything worked. Although quiet the sound insulation between rooms may be questionable. Like bed sheet with bed duvet or else left cold later in night. Toilet flush no power but did work. Good sized TV & reception good. Meals good with good & varied choices for dinner. Being an old building a lot of steps. Steps up to reception from outside and then two further up to dias & then two down.

Two night stay, with their staycation deal, in a sea view suite, spacious rooms with a view to the sea, good food and efficient, friendly service. Liked it so much we have booked another two nights later this month.

Stay at the hotel for 3 nights the staff was great and room ok could do with a bit up dating in areas . The let down was we wanted to eat in the restaurant but was told not open due to having no staff because they had a wedding on and the next night was that they had coach guests to look after. Surely if the wedding and coach people had booked you make sure you had enough staff on to cope with it all .

A fantastic hotel for the price. The rooms were clean and housekeeping was proactive. The rooms were comfortable, in good working order and clean. The service from staff across the hotel was attentive and the location was perfect with plenty of bars and restaurants within walking distance.

Warm, friendly well-staffed hotel. Excellent breakfast served early enough to get a decent day's activities in, and make the 720am bus to the airport. Not sure about the football being on - a guest was upset because he objected to a kiddie briefly playing the piano because he was "...trying to watch the f*ckin football", said loudly to the whole bar/lounge. That aside, it's pretty comfy and, again, I emphasise the abundance of helpful staff. Very good all in all.

Good comfortable clean hotel right in the middle of Douglas. Staff are friendly and helpful, just a pity you can't choose who's in the room beside you. Maybe the hotel could come up with a courtesy test before booking 🤔

Had a lovely few days here at low season when you might have expected a few corners to be cut or pennies saved but no sign of that at all. The common areas are beautifully kept and our room was so clean and comfortable. The breakfasts were great and the bar was always welcoming and has lovely views across the promenade and beach. The live music is a nice touch. We had one dinner in and that was great quality for the price. And all the staff were both competent and friendly. Would give six stars if I could, the Empress is great value.

Check-in : The process was quick and very friendly, We arrived early we waited at the bar and the check in team let us in earlier , as soon as the room was ready. Room: Clean and decently arranged. It was specious for the sea view double. The shower and the bathroom were very clean. The shower has super-hot water that is the only thing that I would have as a suggestion. It great for cold rainy days but not ideal for the warmer sunny days. This is a renovated hotel from old structure. The bed is decent not the best bit worth it for the price range. Service: The cleaning service is on point and very timely daily, the restaurant food is good and very well prices for the area. Location: On the beach walking distance from all the museum and the theatre.

Customer service is disappointing. We sat down for an evening dessert in the pub/lobby and one of the waiters told my wife she couldn’t have the takeout box she had with her making her throw her food away. This facility advertises a fitness center but it was not available when I woke and went to work out. A stranger walked into our room without knocking. Also, the foot of the bed nearly touches the wall.
