My mother treated us to a night at the sefton as a belated birthday treat. The hotel is lovely, the Victorian atrium is beautiful! We had a room over looking it (I lived on the isle of man 20 years and never knew it was there). There is a pool which we had all to ourselves, only 6 people can enter at one time which is good due to its size. The hotel does need some updating but the price reflects that. Breakfast was really good with a beautiful sea view! The staff were all lovely. Reasons it dropped stars were 1. Our toilet didn't work well at all. 2. The fridge made an awful noise 3. There was a 21st birthday party in a room opposite that was blasting loud music and drunk girls screaming gone 10pm, they occupied a few rooms, it was very annoying. 4. The changing rooms at the pool stink of sulphur and they are freezing🥶

One of the best hotel in Isle of man. Sea is front of hotel and rooms are too big and with all the amenities. Only drawback was poor or we should say very poor Wifi. Rest of the things are best.

Location of the Hotel is great, but it’s a tired property that is becoming run down, the Atrium is dusty the plants are dying or dead, enough dust in the air that someone with asthma would be vulnerable, dead leaves pile up on windows the blinds in the atrium are broken collecting dust and the metal beams are filthy, water pressure of the shower was hit and miss. When the Manager came to the room and took pictures of the problems and offer us a meal and discount on next visit his answer to all the problems was it’s an old building ( which I read as him saying it is not a 4star hotel we just charge as one) It is an old building it dose have character but it isn’t 4star at best 3 and the atrium has enough dead plan and leaves to be a fire risk also more dust than a building site with echoing chatter from drunk guests to match the noise of a building site

The Sefton Hotel in Douglas, is in a beautiful spot opposite the sea front on Douglas on the Isle of Man. It has a bus stop.outside which the airport bus stops at. It is next door to the lovely Gaiety Theatre. Be careful which rooms you pay for. Our rooms have windows but have opaque film on them so we can't really see the outside. This is OK. Other rooms face onto the sea or face into an inner courtyard. There is a lovely sea facing breakfast room here. The breakfasts are very good, lots of choice. Coffee is good. They have a small gym and a swimming pool that fits six people at a time. The hotel had Sir Norman's bar and a Pan Asian Restaurant.

Very expensive for what it is. Rooms run down. Stained carpets, dated shower with horrible curtain. (Who uses shower curtains in hotels these days?). Thin towels. Restaurant in hotel doesn’t belong to hotel. Bar in hotel likewise. Created difficulties trying to charge items to room bill. Pond in atrium a mosquito breeding ground, badly bitten on first night in room opposite because no running water overnight. Walls thin as constantly disturbed by other residents either arriving back late or dragging their chairs across the wooden floors. Not really worthy of the brand.

Absolutely superb in every respect. Pleasant and helpful staff - just what you need when your flight has just been cancelled. My "Atrium Room" was excellent, and the breakfast was superb - but without doubt, top marks must go to the in-house "Bonzai Restaurant". The Chinese dinner was an excellent experience - Friendly staff, really quick service, and such tasty food. It made my 24hr flight delay a most welcome bonus and can't wait for my next visit to the Isle of Man. I'll be heading straight for the Sefton.

Difficult to rate. The location is very good, on the promenade and easy access to all the bars and restaurants. Can't rate their restaurant as we did not eat there. The bar is ok, just like others around there. The rooms are adequate and clean but as everyone says it is dated. We had a room looking into the atrium and it is very overlooked. They clean the room every 3 days which does not justify their 4 star. The breakfast is nice but again not a 4 star standard. The breakfast staff was very obliging and pleasant. The reception staff is hit and miss. The parking seems to be subletted to Manx people or used as a local car park, guests have to pay to stay there!? Overall it has redeeming features and some not so nice, thus the 3 rating

This is a lovely hotel, but you are unable to buy a coffee in bar or lobby, which I found very odd. Very old world . Lovely waterfall towatch from our balcony with fish in it. Tranquil and quiet .

We just got home after a 7 night stay at The Sefton for our 1st wedding anniversay (after a Covid non honeymoon last year) and my husband's birthday. Our room was fantastic, spacious, clean and with the best, deepest, hottest bath I've ever had, after loads of walking and achey legs, it was a dream. We stayed in an atrium room which was quirky and we liked to sit on the indoor balcony after a knackering day! We arrived very late after a delayed ferry crossing and after parking the bike up was met by the night reception man who was really nice despite our initially grumpy arrival. We chatted with him on several late nights jaunts through reception and he was helpful and friendly. We slept incredibly well on a huge comfy bed with perfect beddding and pillows. It was good to have a fridge in the room and we were never short of tea, coffee, bottled water etc. We didnt require a full room service but left notes with what we required and the really nice room staff were happy to oblige. The car park was very handy and safe for our bike and sidecar. It was a totally different break from our normal ones and a cracking base for our adventure, thank you.

I have been going to the Sefton for over thirty years but not in recent years its still fabulous lovely staff fab rooms great views, it's age adds to the charm but the quality of the staff and bar staff is amazing

Absolutely love this hotel. Allowed me to check in early after a distressing journey and provided me with a brilliant room - surely an upgrade. The breakfast is amazing, as are the staff. Love the secure under cover parking to keep my motorbike dry. I've visited the Sefton twice before and I'm already planning another trip next year. Won't choose anywhere else to stay when traveling on my motorbike. Awesome....

It's a 4star hotel but needs bringing up to date. Shabby with dirty carpets along corridors. Library nice & breakfast room & food excellent. I had a room with a disability bathroom. Which was excellent. Rooms look out into an atrium with lovely fish ponds & trees. But rooms are dark. Staff very efficient & friendly.

Beautiful but tired, could do with a bit of a face-lift. The room we had was clean tidy but no view. There were cracked tiles in the bathroom and no towels. I had to ring downstairs for some. Our son had a room in the atrium room. Nice little double room with balcony. When we checked in, we were told he couldn't sleep in there on his as he was only 16. By which point we had already paid, we were told one of us would have to bunk in with him,why when booking were we not made aware of this or offered a different room? Their room was over warm and even with the balcony door closed was very loud at 1.30am. Breakfast was a saving grace. We did use the pool but couldn't wait to get out of the changing room as the smell was disgusting.

A fabulous welcome by reception, even thou Brett was overwhelmed with people waiting to check in. Staff were all friendly. Staff answered any questions, about tourists things, like bus service etc.Rooms spotlessly clean. We were lucky with car parking each day. Location was superb, bus stop, very closeby, options to walk to places too. 100% would go back

Booked junior suite - should not be rated above a 2 star. Checking in delayed as they said rooms were not ready - we had arrived early morning so this was very long day. Room worn and tired, headboard on bed was half size of bed and looked strange. Small fridge randomly placed next to dressing table - not even in a cupboard £680 charged for 3 nights - of no sleep due to noise echoing in atrium, balcony’s crowded and overlooking each other, people talking across the atrium, the fountain was left. running, no ventilation and so room really hot and stuffy, unbearable. No window to the outside only atrium which was filthy and smelt really bad. Hotel very worn and unloved. Carpets worn through to thread, atrium covered in thick black dust, plants uncared for and dying. My husband suffers with severe asthma and we had to pay extra for earlier ferry home as he became too unwell due to conditions. Hot water on and off in bathroom which made using shower nearly impossible. Room safe was broken with sign on saying do not use. Did not use pool as smelt of damp and mould, so could not risk. Despite speaking to reception, hotel full so could not move rooms and was given apology and offered free meal and bottle of Prosecco!!!! Really !!!

My wife and myself recently stayed for 5 nights at the Sefton hotel, one night with a sea view and the following 4 nights overlooking the Atrium. Overall we had an excellent experience, the rooms were very comfortable, clean and had all the amenities you would need. We found all the staff, from reception to cleaners, to be helpful and pleasant in manner, going about their duties with an air of quiet efficiency. We ate in Norman's bar of an evening and the food was very good at reasonable prices. This is a very nice hotel and we look forward to visiting again before too long.

Good location, helpful friendly staff and a tidy hotel. Typical seafront establishment, adjoined bar which was nice, parking for a small number of cars for £4 per day. Would use again. Room with a sea view was nice and pleasant.

We loved our short stay at the Sefton. We left our bags early morning then checked in at 3pm. Relaxed in our atrium room then dined in the Bonzai restaurant attached to the hotel. No complaints apart from the shower was a bit small. Otherwise perfect.

Fantastic, receptionists were absolutely amazing, rooms were fantastic, when we left the hotel at 5pm to go home, flights were cancelled at 9pm, called the hotel and they welcomed us back again for the night. we definitely go back there again,

I stayed for a weekend at the Sefton Hotel to attend a Circuit assembly of Jehovah's Witnesses. I was very impressed by the friendly, approachable and professional manner of all employees, one of the house keeping staff in particular went out of her way to see I had everything I needed. I was also very impressed that Hotel allows the hire of the Pool for 2 hours so that new members of our faith can be baptised. This reassures me they truly are all inclusive. My only slight negative is their was only one fan in a double room, ( 2 single beds ) this could be a problem if you both felt you needed it, however I would definitely return and stay at the Hotel. Breakfast was lovely lots of choice, cooked and continental, fruit, Cerals and juices. Cleaning was of a good standard. Good facilities, for able bodied and those with disabilities.

Lovely hotel, like a step back in time. We had an atrium Room which was amazing, chilled on the balcony with a bottle of wine. Charlotte on reception while we were there was really helpful and informative.

Loved this place. The room was large and looking out over the atrium you couldn't ask for better even when the weather turned you could still enjoy it. The only flaw was the size of the shower cubicle a bit small if I was a bit bigger I wouldn't have fitted in it. I would definitely stay at this hotel again

Staff friendly and helpful. Atrium room spacious and clean. Shower small but lots of hot water. Used Harbour Lights for two evening meals. Great both times. Decor a little tired in places, so not five star, but I will be back.

Yes it's tired in places, but to be honest what the hospitality industry have had to endure over the past 18 months, it's no surprise to me they are not splashing out just yet on updating their hotels! We had a lovely stay in atrium junior suite. Spacious, lovely comfortable bed, huge bathroom, a little dated, but I do love that old style charm, room was spotless. Swimming pool is delightful, had it to ourselves on each occasion. Cannot speak highly enough of the breakfast staff, very efficient, and courteous, breakfast was perfect, plenty of choice. Yes there is ongoing road works on the promenade, this is nothing to do with the hotel and I am sure they too are sick if it. All in all a lovely stay, atrium rooms will be quieter option at the moment due to road works on the promenade

We stayed at The Sefton 1 week ago. It was excellent, all freshly painted, a beautiful hotel, the staff were so accommodating and friendly. We loved our holiday and would definitely stay again .

The hotel is wheelchair accessible and town centre is walkable. The staff was friendly and helpful and the pool is in a relaxing area. The service also was amazing as the hotel is in a luxurious location.

This is a typical largish British seaside hotel. Rooms are fine, it's clean, staff are friendly, on-site parking is available and cheap. Breakfast was a bit of a let-down though; not hot enough and just a bit average. It wasn't particularly clear the tea protocol - make your own or be served - and then there was nothing to put milk in to take it to your table once you've made a little pot of tea. Hotels like this don't need to offer a great deal but getting breakfast right is bloody important.

Stayed in the atrium twin room. Large room With everything you need, No air con so rooms where a bit warm as we had a heat wave, there was a fan in the cupboard which was useful. Bathroom large only downside was there shower was too small. Little fridge under the table was useful. Staff all friendly and very helpful big thanks to all of them. Good location for the pubs and shops would recommend.

Spotless, professional front of house staff. Lovely bar and nice staff. Room was huge with big bathroom but had awful view and ducting right outside window was quite noisy. Would stay again but would ask for a different room.

Old fashioned but very clean. Lovely choice for breakfast. Staff very friendly. Only problem we had was we paid in advance for parking came back after going out finding it hard to park, didn't mind thinking it was just hotel that was busy until last day we saw it was the locals using the car park.

  • 1/5 Pauline R. 1 year ago on Google
Booked a ‘luxury suite’…which for my 2 night stay meant i was stuck in an attic…the photos online showed nicely decorated rooms with large light filled spaces…i paid extra for the luxury suite thinking that’s what i would get…be careful…the hotel label the attic rooms as luxury suites (as well as the rooms with proper windows)…we had 3 velux that opened 2inches…a bathroom with no fan or windows for ventilation…a front door that didn’t lock properly when closed, decor more suited to student accommodation. The bed was comfortable and bed linens good quality. There were 2 tvs in the suite, neither of which worked, the receptionist tried for an hour and had to give up in the end. The morning we checked out, it had rained and we noticed that water was running down the inside walls, along front of safety deposit box. The swimming pool was not suitable for swimming as too shallow (1.5m section about 1ft wide, 4ft long)…paid more than £200 per night, really not worth it👎

Great hotel. I’ve stopped here 4 times. I did stop in the atrium room once and didn’t like it, felt like I was in a green house. But amazing and friendly staff, great food and great location

Room was really nice, was with a big group and the staff were super helpful. For the money its good value. Buffet breakfast is definitely worth the extra money. Highly recommend

Great hotel, if your staying for TT or MGP weeks book well in advance. The rooms here are clean and quite modern. The staff are also great here very helpful and accommodating. Really like the Atrium with all the plants in due to its uniqueness and openness compared to many of the other hotels on Douglas promenade

  • 5/5 Phil H. 2 years ago on Google
Stayed for 2 nights. Staff are fantastic and very helpful. Room was very clean and a great size for a family of 4. Could do with the carpet replacing in the hall way as it's worn in a few places but the hotel was very clean. Breakfast was fantastic
