Hands down one of the best museums I have visited. We were able to leave our luggage at the cloakroom (there are also lockers) where it is staffed. Tickets cost €5 for adults which I think is underpriced for whats offered. The museum is generally separated into two parts. One part which chronologically shows the events before, during and after the world wars. The other part dives into more general topics such as the technology, animals, memories of war. The top floor is a viewing platform which gives you an amazing view of Dresden and provide some information of the bombing in 1945. Throughout the museum, there are staff located on each floor who you can ask questions to regarding the exhibits. They are very knowledgeable and makes understanding what is displayed a lot easier. The museum itself is huge and consist of 4 floors and also some tanks, cars, and vessels on the ground floor for viewing. I would definitely recommend reserving at least three hours to see everything. Although I came for the Christmas markets I would say this museum is a must visit for everyone visiting Dresden. You can easily reach the museum with trams 3, 7 from the city centre.

Simply amazing museum (so glad we decided to take the time to visit). First, the staff at this museum are very friendly and very helpful. One could spend an entire day (or more) in this museum. There is so much information (papers, artifacts, equipment) to read and digest. The museum itself has 4 floors covering different eras of German Military history. There is also old military equipment outside that is super cool to see dating back to the Cold War. For history buffs, this is a MUST while visiting Dresden. Thank you to the team who put this wonderful museum together.

Incredible museum! We spent almost a whole day there (from opening till 4pm). Extremely comprehensive and interesting. The exhibits were so well curated and easy to follow. We previously visited the Vienna's military museum so there were some overlaps but if we hadn't, we might have taken more time to complete the exhibits! Had such a great time and it ended on a really good note up on Dresden View! We were really, really very impressed at the quality. English translation was very well done too! Thanks for all the hard work!

Good place to spend the day even with younger ones. Family ticket 7 eur. Great collection of military equipment and vehicles. A bit of a pity that the restaurant isn't working anymore , so take something with you or eat before. Free parking on premises by the way

(Translated by Google) Extremely dark, but the lights are switched off for some reason. The descriptions of the objects are written far too small and / or far too high up to be read! Who came up with something like that? I'm 1.80 and even on tiptoe I couldn't read the description at the top.

The Dresden Museum is Germany’s largest Military Museum. It has a corridor prior to 1914 (WWI) 1914-1945 (WWI & WWII) 1945 to Present. This museum is for the Historical Enthusiast. There is English translation throughout the museum.

Museum has a great deal of historical information, personal artifacts, photos, etc. Most of the descriptions are posted very low, on the floor, or in positions difficult to read. (Had a neck ache after 3 hours there) Everything is posted in German and English. Layout is peculiar for such a large building. Some displays are crammed together with huge empty spaces around them. Tanks are showcased outdoors. I would not recommended museum for children, people under 5'7" (won't be able to see horizontal displays/descriptions) or persons with disabilities.

Great museum. So much to see and very cool if you are interested in military history. The museum covers quite a long period of military history, not just WWII. Plan at least 2-3 hours if you really want to see everything even just briefly. Price is also not bad for the amount of history on display.

(Translated by Google) It was quite a disappointment to be honest. But first the positive: There was a grenade exploded in its parts. The splinters, which were individually attached to strings with great attention to detail, were worth seeing, as were the bombs of different sizes, which were attached in such a way that they appeared to be falling and were visible from several levels. Very impressive. There was also a V2, but no V1. A special motor vehicle 2 (Sd. Kfz 2) also known as the Kettenkrad was also on display. ++++++++++++ For the fact that the museum advertises on its own website with 4250 handguns, 3250 handguns as well as 1700 sabers and many more, not even a tenth is on display !!!! It was underground! There were fewer military vehicles on display than in the Horsch Museum in Zwickau (by the way, highly recommended)! The light installation was underground. It was hardly possible to look at the paintings, for example, because they were illuminated from such a bad angle that there were extreme reflections. The lettering was consistently white on a dark gray background with moderate lighting and sometimes at a height for giants. Every now and then one saw a bumbling attempt to juxtapose military equipment, for example on the West German and East German sides, but without even the slightest consideration of the proportions. Even a simple bar chart would have shown the amount of vehicles and aircraft with which the GDR would of course have rolled over the West together with the USSR. As shown in the museum, the relationship looks the same and that's just not true. I would also like to go back to the outdoor area: A few tanks are rusting outside. A weasel and a cheetah can also be seen: in the open, uncovered, history is dealt with very irresponsibly.

(Translated by Google) One of the few museums that I found extremely interesting. The exhibitions are very clear and well designed. You learn a lot and the information is easy to access. The people on site are really nice and are happy to help with any questions. The museum has several floors and a lot of space, which is really useful in Corona times. With my interest in tanks, I also really got the money here. Oh yes, the prices are more than fair for so much information and exhibition! Just great ... Einfach klasse...

This is the museum of the German Army. It has quite an enormous task to present the eventful history from several hundred years of hostilities between ancient and more recent super powers in the centre of Europe. I tried to see everything on one day, but that was not possible. My advice is to focus on certain parts of the great exhibition. I found the most recent part very interesting, with all the comparisons between the armies in DDR and BRD. Also the old submarine was a must see. Some battle vehicles from the cold war era and later can be seen outside, don't miss them.

If you are most interested in vehicles and big equipment, the best stuff for me were the vehicles parked outside of the building which you can see without entering the museum. The museum space was nice and had interesting exhibitions with lot of smaller stuff ... Guns, uniforms, etc. The part focusing on development after 1945 had a nice comparison between East and West German armies.

This is a really well designed and interestingly presented museum. Old Fritz would have been delighted if he had seen his over-sized portrait in the entrance hall. Everything is really very well presented and you have the feeling that it is being offered quite an objective review of history. YesI was most interested in the Weimar Republic and the time of the First World War, the Second World War and the time after it was extremely interesting and a top recommendation.

It is a really good place for spending 1-2 hours for visiting. The staff are ready friendly and more importantly they speak English which is quite a blessing in Saxony. Facilities including bag storage and rest rooms are perfect. There is also a restaurant and cafe although it was closed during our visit due to Covid-19. After all there are wide range of military equipment from clothes and guns to tanks and helicopters. Also are also facilitating art pictures. If you enjoy the history you can really have fun in this place.

Arguably the greatest military history museum I’ve ever been to. Starting with the decommissioned military vehicles (tanks, boats, jets, helicopters & troop transporters) outside, absolute gems. Inside they’ve got 4 levels of genuine artefacts all meticulously dated, labeled and described in both German & English. I’d recommend putting aside a whole day for this wonderful building if you really want to immerse yourself in the history. The team at this museum are serious about everything Military History with an emphasis on German & Soviet aspects. Entry is only €5 for the main exhibition which will easily entertain the most avid enthusiasts for hours on end, not to mention they have a free evening session from 6-9pm on Mondays.

This museum has an outstanding collection of items to watch and stories to read and themes to explore - and to be amazed. The timeline of the German (war) history can be followed quite flawlessly and you can spend hours here. It’s also money well spent. Only 6€ for an adult! Outdoor exhibition of the vehicles was a nice addition to the many-sided and plentiful collection. But there are also some critical points of the way how the exhibition has been put together: - I don’t quite get the idea of putting so much effort in building almost useless or even in best cases very difficult to use ”functionalities” in the exhibition architecture. I don’t like opening boxes or drawers to get the information. Instead those pseudo-stylish elements everything should be displayed without any trouble or need to use muscles. Some of those ”sliding doors” were so heavy to use that I hardly believe that any elderly women can even open them. Perhaps they are not the target group? - The color scheme of dark grey and other very dark tones doesn’t play together with the way-too dimmed and non-adequate lightning that has been used unfortunately almost everywhere. Reading the texts in many of the vitrines was practicly impossible. Parts of some descriptions were overshadowed by other items. Please use some more light!

I read some other reviews and yes. It is an Incredible museus. I just wish I had more time as I was only able to see the chronological part( the difference wars) and I couldn't check othe other galleries Neither the collection of vehicles outside the museums and the other building dedicated to the cols war. You need at least 3 hours for this museum. I think if you like history, technology or both. Make yourself a favour and cone and check it out.

Building is massive and exhibits are spaced out so worth getting a tour with one of the excellent guides. Has the usual mix of standard exhibits and arty quirkiness of German museums. Starting at the sticky out wedge and working your way down is probably the best way to see everything. Allow at least 2 to 3 hours.

It's worth to experience this building by itself first. Then take your time to look at the permanent exhibition, it's presented very well, I recommend you to take the elevator to the top floor and visit from end to start. The in-house Café is also nice and pretty good for a little break.

One significant museum in Dresden. The focus of the exhibitions is on people and the question of the causes and consequences of war and violence. Museum is big, You starting with history and at the end you are reaching to today. I liked tha there are different aspects of military history. Like animals in war, literature, music, games in war and so on. Of course there are plenty different technics, but its not dominating. A lot to watch. 2 hours must reserv, when you plan to visit. In museum is also restaurant, so you can eat there.

Many museums are filled to the brim with items in order to show the public as many things as possible. This is not that kind of museum. Instead this museum feels more like a concept museum. It selected a few military-historic concepts and uses carefully curated items to illustrate those concepts. For some concepts that works very well. However, I was disappointed in the treatment of the concept of "language and the military". Military language is specific, sometimes using words in ways unlike regular language usage. That's what the sign implies as well. Illustrating this with a simple alphabetical arrangement of items that were very vaguely related to the military but didn't deal at all with military language feels like a huge missed opportunity. The building is architecturally stunning but its interior is sometimes confusing with dead ends and stairs that are hidden behind strange corners. It's certainly not the easiest museum to navigate.

Plan 50-60% for the time for the ground and first for floor, floor 2-4 you will have much less exposition pieces and history information. As others have said, the museum is extensive and you should plan to take 4-6 hours at a minimum to see everything. It's a truly sobering mix of artifacts, art, videos, and photographs that you need to take in slowly to appreciate. One thing I will mention that others haven't: the museum has over 50 lockers about 1m deep and 1/2m high for your baggage and you can use them with refundable 1 or 2 Euro coins.

(Translated by Google) Can't give 5 stars because I personally didn't see enough military vehicles and weapons. The uniforms and paintings are beautiful but poorly lit. The price is perfectly okay.

(Translated by Google) It was very beneficial to see how the Bundeswehr, supported by us citizens, is committed and architecturally presented here. The Lirbeskind architecture is great and has a direct impact on the design of the exhibitions. I was irritated by the warning against the use of firearms at the entrance gate and the weak cloakroom capacities on a rainy day in September 😉 (Original) Es war sehr wohltuend, zu sehen, wie sich die von uns Bürgern getragene Bundeswehr hier engagiert und architektonisch präsentiert.

(Translated by Google) Unfortunately, the exhibitions were way too big, after 4 hours we weren't even completely through with the first two floors. If you only let yourself through the lyrics to a limited extent, you can certainly do it faster. Too much information for visitors who are more than moderately interested, making it impossible to have the full museum experience (Original) Leider viel zu große Ausstellungen, wir waren nach 4 Stunden nichtmal vollständig mit den ersten beiden Stockwerken durch. (Translated by Google) Anyone who has a military technical collection alá Panzermuseum Munster will be a little disappointed, there are individual exhibits, but as the name suggests, they are more concerned with the history of the military. However, this is presented very well and there is also the option of an audio guide.

Really cool museum. It was bigger than expected, 4 hours were not enough to see everything, so I'll have to come back. I was impressed with the amount of curated objects and artifacts. Totally worth it.

A lot to do here, a lot of interesting exhibits even if you aren't a military buff. Ticket is pretty cheap at 5 Euro each and the place is clean and architecture interesting. Great views from the observation deck with 4 floors of exhibits. Outside are tanks, armoured cars and other military equipment. Well worth a visit.

Prety complex. If you go here see it all, you need hours. They have guides, mainly in Deutsche language, but although they speak English. Some artefacts has strong antiwar efect. They have there much more heavy weapons than donated to Ukraine's defend forces :-)
