This former favourite of mine has delivered the best steaks for many years. But I guess every beight star has its day, and so it seems with the Monasterboice Inn. What once shone bright is now a dim ember of its yester year quality. Once, I'd drive hours to bring people here and amaze them with steaks beyond compare, but somebody lost the recipe for great steaks, and now struggle to be acceptable, let alone good. I took some friends here that were visiting Ireland, built the restaurant up to something to be amazed by, what a let down. We ordered 4 fillet steaks, medium well, we got, 4 well done dry steaks, and pretty tough they were too. Even the mash potatoes were dry and uninspiring. Along with the poor steak and poor potatoes, we ordered the 2nd from the top red wine, being a Fleurie 2020 by Henry Fessy. All I can say is the wine was in keeping with the meal, barely acceptable. On the positive side the place was quick to get a seat, which I guess on a Friday evening should have aroused suspicion. And finally the staff were very nice. But bad steak, bad mash and bad wine, this star is burnt out. Sad.

Similar to another reviewer Donegans came recommended. I was less than impressed. The menu was very odd, it’s something from 1980s. The food was all terrible, variants of different meat with tasteless veg. It was surprisingly packed, maybe there’s nowhere else around there to eat. I will never be back. The only saving grace was the staff were friendly but the food was horrific.

Had food in the bar midweek. Very helpful, friendly service. Plenty of choice on menu, decent portions, and tasty food. Had breakfast another day in the main restaurant area. Solid old school breakfast menu with plenty of options and top service, although there was a strong taste of vinegar from the poached eggs.

I normally share the chicken wings with my wife, and I go for a half scampi with a choice of potatoes. Scampi has the option of batter or breadcrumbs. Steaks are huge and delicious but slightly over priced. The front of house and waiting staff are normally very efficient and friendly. If it's good enough for the Prince of Monaco, it's good enough for me! Nice lobby area to relax while waiting to be called for your table with comfortable armchairs and a nice garden to explore. at the rear. Been coming here for years, and the food and service has never let me down.

We dined here on a Saturday evening and it was busy which is usually a good sign. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The menu was very over priced, really 5 star prices but 2 star food. Chips arrived on a stainless steel two portion server from 80's diner. Kids complained that their burgers were very dry and when I tried one bite it was like a thick slab of dry roast beef. The side salad was so small I can't remember how it tasted. If they can't raise the level of the food take the prices down to meet the standard of food.

Have been going here a long time and love it .But today's experience was bad were told there was a small wait didn't mind but 3/4 of an hour later after giving our order and drink order .Seen everyone. That ordered after us taken in.i was annoyed called girl and told her .she went away.and straight away got called then she realized we didn't get our drinks .was a little mad so didn't enjoy my meal as much . waitresses was lovely as usual she always is and wasn't her fault but it was a bit off putting today

Definitely plan for a wait if you are coming during dinner. I believe we waited about 25 minutes. But the staff is incredibly kind and attentive, and the food is amazing. Bathrooms are also kept very clean. We got steak and the seafood chowder with eclairs for dessert. Would definitely recommend if you are in town.

While the staff were very friendly and helpful the food itself was "just ok". Other reviews rave about the restaurant but personally I wouldn't be rushing back.

I visited this traditional Irish pub restaurant today. The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the beef burger. It was simply outstanding. Aside from the exceptional beef burger, the service at the pub was commendable. The staff members were attentive, friendly.

Great food. Going there for 40 years. Only thing is if you need anything after your meal arrives you need to get up and ask as no-one observes the room. Same for trying to get the bill.

Another lovely meal and desert today lovely coffee too as expected. Once I had an issue with a meal and staff were very prompt sorting it out and even took it off the menu. I always enjoy my meal when I come here and staff are very helpful. Top marks 👌

I have eaten here twice, great venue, very accomidating and I am so full when I leave that I have to be rolled out of the place. The chicken maryland was massive, all the trimmings and reminded me of what I used to get when I was out with my parents for dinner as a kid. Highly recommend for a family dinner with the kids and the staff are lovely too.

Lovely food and staff great but not pet friendly 😔. A bit disappointed. We asked could we sit outside the front? But no😲. I won't be back if I'm with my 🐶 pet.

We stumbled across this wonderful restaurant on our travels yesterday. The staff were so lovely. The lamb dinner we all had was absolutely gorgeous. As was the home made apple pie. We'll definitely be visiting more regularly. Love it

The food here is good. Beef stroganoff was perfecto. Appetizer must try is deep fried mushrooms.

Great value for the full Irish breakfast. Many other options also available. Friendly and attentive staff. Food came very promptly. Not a bad thing to say about this place!

Went for breakfast. Had 3x Irish breakfast. Food was hot and decent. Lots of toast and coffee. Service was friendly, efficient and on the ball. Table and toilets were clean. Lots of parking.

Popped in for a quick bit of lunch, a busy little spot a bit cramped sat beside the bar but we were hungry so we could not care less. I had the chowder soup main course portion, very tasty! Lots of fish! And the brown scones were a lovely touch... but a tad small. Will definitely be back to give it another shot!

Haven't dined here in years. Had fond memories of huge and delicious portions. Disappointed this time around. Food was just about average, and extremely overpriced. Shame really, won't be rushing back.

Popular place for food. I tried the duck and was disappointed. The sides of veg and chips I thought were poor. The staff were great and the parking is good.

Headed here for sunday lunch, which they dont start serving till 1230. The menu on Sunday is not the standard menu, and while the place was packed with loyal locals, I was disappointed. Meat hidden under a slosh of gravy, under cooked chips, watery veg, and all devoid of any flavour. The staff are friendly, but its difficult to get their attention. 50e for 2 adults mains, 1 kids meal, 2 soft drinks.

Stopped for lunch in Monasterboice Inn with my husband and daughter. We had a great experience, the service, food, atmosphere and decor were excellent. The toilets were spotless, the staff were friendly and professional. I would highly recommend this establishment.

Excellent venue but sadly our visit came after a funeral. The staff were genuinely friendly and helpful. There was some delays with serving the meal but once out it was delicious. apple tart was good too.

An old favourite among many travelling to Dublin, before the new road came in. It’s been here the test of time and still as good as ever - very friendly staff and great home cooked food. I called in one Wednesday afternoon for lunch and it was very busy. Great atmosphere
