I've been meaning to share this for weeks, but time has flown... We stopped into the museum for a flying visit on a long journey from Belfast to Galway. To be honest it was mainly a break for the kids, a bathroom break, a look at the bubble car, a quick walk around, and yet we were greeted so warmly by the lady on reception, who was so kind with the children and generous with her attention. I wish I knew her name, she deserves a raise. What could have been a one off flying visit has become a lasting happy memory for them, and they want to go back and take a proper look at all the varied and wonderful artifacts crammed into this place, and so despite living in Belfast we will find the time to do just that!

A nice place to learn about the county of Louth as well as famous local architect, Peter Rice.

Time of closing was 5 pm. We have arrived at 3.30 pm. They refused us the entrance as they said they were closed at 4 (even if it was 3.30 pm. The receptionist was rude. What is the point to have someone like that in a public place. Long bank holiday weekends are to enjoy those facilities. If you don't want people in just close it and that is...

Much better Muesuem experience than you would think. Covers a range of time periods and has some great historical items in its exhibition. Worth a visit

The exhibition on Northeast Ireland is really great, and the staff was so helpful with me, I wanted to know about landmarks on the outskirts of Dundalk, and they really clarified loads of questions I had, specially about Cúchulainn's birth place and death place. Even though they let it very clear that visiting both sites on foot would be a really long and tiring walk, I did it anyway, and I'm very proud of that, what a day that was. My sincere thanks to the staff.

Free entry. Three levels in the building: prehistoric, middle ages, industrial era. Nice to spend an hour looking at the history of the area. Staff very friendly

An interesting and well laid out museum. Covers the range of human history in the county through Neolithic times, early Christian, medieval, down to industrial history of the twentieth century. Good range of display methods - plenty of artefacts, reconstructions, illustrations, videos, and so on, over three stories of a spacious old red brick building. Well worth a visit.

We travelled from Belfast to visit this museum yesterday. On the ground floor are more recent artefacts and information, including a "bubble car" and information about the railway in Dundalk, which was of interest to me as family members had worked in the GNR works in Dundalk. There are three floors in the museum, the top floor is devoted to prehistoric times, so I would recommend starting there. The museum closes for lunch between 1pm and 2pm. We went for lunch in a nearby café and returned to the museum for approx an hour after lunch. One negative point would be that the most up to date information related to the 1990s, when the museum was first opened and I think an update is due. Overall, a good visit with plenty of interest to see, both about County Louth and Ireland in general. Admission to the museum is free.

Improve the children's experience and the adults could spend more time there. Great nostalgia for the adults but requires more interactive activities (that function) for children.

This museum doesn't have a huge wow factor, but it is a very nice space, and has an interesting catalog of the North East of the country. Most interesting to people from the area, and people whose ancestors came from this part of the world.
