Mackinac Island is always a timeless beauty. So much natural beauty as well as historical architecture. You always feel like you're stepping back in time, a slower more relaxing pace. I've been coming here since I was a child since I'm a Michigan native. I moved away to Florida for 15 years and just made it back this summer. The island has become sadly just another overcrowded tourist trap. Prices of everything there and the ferry are pretty unreasonable ($20 an hour to ride a bike?!) I miss the days where you could make it a weekend and not be smothered in the streets by herds of people or broke by the end of day 1. Still a great place to see but as a native I'll now go spend my hard earned money on things more reasonable and not so overpopulated.

I have been up to mackinaw island close to ten times in my young life so far. I simply can’t get enough of the beautiful one of a kind island. I’ve visited the island with family, and with the BSA mackinaw honor guard two years. Not only is mackinaw island truly an experience you won’t get anywhere else (due to it being without motor vehicles) but it has some stunning scenery, such as arch rock, mackinaw fort, fort Holmes, etc. you literally will not run out of things to do and see while visiting this beautiful treasure.

The State Park is an amazing adventure. Some of the wooded areas are so quiet, and then some you may see a squirrel or a crow. We rode our bikes through it. There is a location that has bathrooms, food, and ice cream. There are some signs throughout to give you directions and downtown has free maps as well.

Amazing place. I biked around the entire island( 8 miles) and had a great time. There were so many horses around the island. There were bugs on the ferry on the way there, but I sat outside on the way back and there were none. Most people would enjoy the butterfly house, and insect world. They are very beautiful and peaceful. Overall great atmosphere and fudge, and lots of things to do

A place like no other. Took the wife there for a 3 day 10 yr anniversary vacation and it was awesome. The island is like a living theme park and the state park part has gorgeous scenery. It can be biked in an hour at a leisurely pace and there are ample opportunities for hiking, kayaking, boating, and trail riding. Town is pricey yes and touristy (coming from a tourist to be fair) but a unique experience none the less. Again, we stayed on the island for a few days and that's a great way to take it in but not one I would do often as it is very expensive (like $2500 bucks for 3 days expensive) but visiting for the day can check a lot of the boxes for the experience. It was a bucket list thing and I don't regret a single minute.

It's a gem of Michigan state parks. Summers here are busy. We stayed 2 nights on the island and it was memorial. Rode bikes and ate good food. All touristy full of souvenirs. Away from town it gets quiet. Watch great lakes freighters go by. Very nice and safe.

Had a great time exploring the island on my bike. Loved that the trails led to beautiful landmarks. Plenty of shops for souvenirs and food choices. Given we visited in July, it was very busy on the island. Just beware there are horses on the island so lots of poop to avoid 😅

Our daughters have been Mackinac Island Honor Scouts for the last 15 years. Our youngest is in her first year of the program. While we enjoy all that downtown has to offer, we've learned to really love the quieter spots in the island. We've hiked every trail, walked and biked around the island, done the ghost tour, napped in the chairs on Mission Point, and just about everything else. It's the best spot for a long weekend regardless of the time of year that you might visit.

What an awesome place to visit! We brought our own bikes, but rentals are everywhere. There are also horse-drawn taxis. Beautiful gardens and estates.

Mackinac Island is always amazing. No motor vehicles. Nice walking, horseback riding or bikes. You must take a ferry to and from the island. Several to choose from. Plan on spending the whole day shopping, walking, exploring, eating and just taking in the spectacular views. If you'd like to stay over, there are plenty of hotels including, of course, the Grand hotel which is not only beautiful but haunted 👻

I would definitely go again. The bike ride was a lot of fun. You can stop and take amazing photos too. Hikes on the way here and there, actually you can't finish everything in one day, at least two.
